Most of the time you have to take out the hultafors to sharpen as well, depending on your pouch I run the milwaukee suspended rig with a wiha pouch on the right, you’d have to wear an overall or run the sheath and pen on opposite sides, also the wax leads will melt in 90’+ heat
Thank you for the very thorough comparison. I have the Pica marker for deep holes, like it real well. Good that the Hultafors lead fits the Pica, thanks again !
I have been using Pica for many years. The lead build up inside that was mentioned has never happened with any pica I've owned. The other question about the clip is the pica clip has never broken.
After trying both for several months now, I find my self gravitating more towards the Pica. Just feels more comfortable in my hand, plus you have that 360 degree grip vs. the sharp-sided Hultafors. Still, both great pencils.
Does anyone make a dedicated sharpener for these leads?? I know my Hultafors (and Pica) has the sharpener built in but they are just not really great... sorta like little kid pencil sharpeners. I was hoping the metal sleeve was the right size for my old school, Boston brand drafting pencil sharpener... but it's a crappy fit.
Great comparison. Amazing that something like this can be a subject for a video :) The Pica may roll off the table due to its roundness. The Hultafors will stay.
I bougth pica in 2017(i think), and that one rolls off the table always, so I bought the hultafors. But now I recently bought two new pica, mainly because I wanted white and red color, but noticed that they have changed its design, so it doesn't roll anymore, so it's much better now.
Have the pica the lead got stuck very early after buying it ,i also have the dixon longreach way cheaper and very good going great a year on also comes with a tube of 10 leads .ps are they carhart overalls ? And what style .thanks
Yes, rewatching this to see if someone made a comment on having the Dixon Reach as I just got one after getting tired of not being able to make pencil Mark's in holes. Really like the 2 in the review but I'm one of those guys that buys local if I can and my Lowes only had the Dixon and it seemed similar to the ones reviewed.
Sean Duncan I’m not familiar with that one. I love to support local as well especially the small tool stores that have been around for ever. Thanks for watching again 😊
The internet is amazing. A 12 minute video about two pencils that do exactly the same: draw lines and dots (they might even come from the same Chinese factory). TLDW: If you like the color red, get the Hultafors, if you like the color green, get the Pica. Both of them do the same job, and have integrated sharpeners.
I stopped at my local Woodcraft and bought both sizes of the pica pencils. One is shown in this video and the other is a larger carpenter pencil. I really like the small one for the workshop and the larger one for construction.
I'm not sure! I've run out of the Pica lead actually so I can't test it for ya. I've been using Hultafors lead in my Pica pencil lately. I seem to recall Pica lead being a teeny bit thicker. But not totally sure.
The problem with the Hultafors is that it is flat. That is not a good thing as it forces you to only use 2 sides of the tip, whereas the Pica can use 360 deg of the pencil, so you can "roll it around" when drawing a line and keep a sharp point.
I have the Hultsfors, I like how it's flat and feels like a wood carpenters pencil. Also I like the feature of the sleeve being shaped like a traditional pencil and having a hole in the bottom and it can still be used with the pencil n it.
Nice review/comparison, answered all my questions & more! I'm gonna pick out a pica pencil and pen. p.s. you probably already know but alcohol is good at picking up graphite and could help clean the Hultafors.
Following this video I bought the Hultafors Pencil anyway. As I don’t normally work upside down I didn’t think Brads “falling out” issue would be a problem. Having used the pencil though I’ve found it doesn’t fall out anyway if you just drop it in!? Maybe Brad got a faulty one?
@@hammerandhome I have not used it. It is an all-metal design and looks nicer than the Pica. I was hoping you tried it before. It seems to have great reviews on Amazon. You should try it out for your Channel.
I have had two of both. My first hultafors was a dissappointment. Lead got stuck all the time. Pencil holder was also too tight and when pulling pencil the whole package followed. Second hultafors was better but also too tight. If looked carefully it is evident in this video also. So i went back to pica. Sorry hultafors, you make some of my favorite tools.
how the fuck each refils cost more then brand new full metal pencil from china? i ll better pay for 10 china pencils then pay for a pack of refils. what the actually fuck?
I have both and the Pica is definitely better, it has a dustproof mechanism. hultafors need to be cleaned frequently and the pica does not have this problem. I definitely do not recommend Lyra Dry pencils for 5 minutes.
Got 3 of them... 1 Hultafors 2 Pica dry 1 Tracer professional The only one that still works is the Hultafors. Both of my pica's don't feed the pencil 🤬 1 doesn't even hold the pencil! The same for the Tracer professional. Getting sick of these pencils...
Thanks for a imformative video I've ordered both and I'll use one for graphite the other for coloured. The only question I ask is where did you get your Bib & Brace overall from they're just what I'm looking for! Thanks again.

Rich M glad you liked the video. The more I use the Pica the more I prefer it over the Haultafors. Thx for watching

That’s where I ended up as well. Thx for sharing
What is the diameter of the leads in mm?
Have you Hultafors in the holster? The lead can be extended through the holster for use with a better holding solution
My hultafors was to tight in the beginning, then after 2 years its totaly loose, falling out if i turn it up side down. Gonna try the pica now
I went pica and haven’t looked back

Interesting, may have to check out the dixon! And yes, they're carhartts, here's a link to the specific style: amzn.to/318R5Sj

My pica’s retention wore out after a while, though it was the older model.
time will tell, hopefully it lasts.
Great review. Really thorough. Thank you. Jd
thankyou!!

Pica has production in Germany :) also design and technical departement :)
or buy a pencil
My Hulfators pencil was made in Romania. Nothing Chinese here!
I stopped at my local Woodcraft and bought both sizes of the pica pencils. One is shown in this video and the other is a larger carpenter pencil. I really like the small one for the workshop and the larger one for construction.
I need to try out that larger one. let me know if you like using it.
Will the pica lead fit in the hultafors? I have pica lead and looking to buy hultafors pencil and not buy the lead. Thanks

Yes but pulling the pencle out of the case is easier because you have two angle sides to pull on

I agree, i too like the feel of the Hultafors, for me i have noticed it really gets jammed up on the push button, have you experienced that?
Nice review/comparison, answered all my questions & more! I'm gonna pick out a pica pencil and pen.
p.s. you probably already know but alcohol is good at picking up graphite and could help clean the Hultafors.

lol I guess you don't ever bend down or lean over when working then. It's inevitable for most types of construction.
Great review. Thank you.
your welcome, and thanks for watching!
Broke one of my hultiforce clips bout 3rd way up still kinda works
Have you tried the Markal Pro?
No I haven't, is it any good?

@@flipwarrior thanks I’ll check it out!
Big advantage of Hultafors over Pica is that Hultafors doesn't roll over the table or sligtly leaning surface.
very true, Update!! i think i lost my Pica😳

The Hultafors pencil is designed that way to not roll off the workbench, or work platform!
Clip the pica so its hanging outside the pocket, that way you can still access the sharpener.
Good idea! Thanks for watching
I have both....i will use my perfectly designed Carpenters pencil.
🧢
Ahh but the hultafors can be used without removing it from the case by extending the lead out through tip...
Reason #2 to pick pica. Cheaper
Pica for me
Team Pica!"
See you in 6 months.

Дааа, тяжёлый выбор между классным и классным!!!🤕😰🤔🤗🤭😂

my Pica keeps on going, never had an issue, I agree the hultafors definitely needs a good cleaning all the time
Draw a PEN15.
Да я лучше доставать буду, чем в карман сыпаться будет графит!!!!
Graphite*
Got 3 of them...
1 Hultafors
2 Pica dry
1 Tracer professional
The only one that still works is the Hultafors.
Both of my pica's don't feed the pencil 🤬 1 doesn't even hold the pencil! The same for the Tracer professional. Getting sick of these pencils...
it interesting how many people have different experiences with each pencil. best of luck
too many bs ads
