Dealer in my area was selling 2019 XLT regular cab 8 ft bed with the 5 liter V8 for $26K out the door in late 2019 to make way for the 2020 models. I thought about buying but passed because I really did not need a new truck. In hindsight it was a cannot afford to not buy situation. In 2006 I paid $26K out the door for a new Lariat extended cab with 6 foot bed 5.4 V8 leather seats, auto HVAC, in dash 6 disc, factory spray in bed liner, etc. Granted, that was near 20 years ago but a similar truck is now near 3 times the price. This includes a Ford Employee Pricing Adjustment of -$2,970 and sales tax of $6,205. For financing, the estimated monthly payment is $946 at a 1.99% APR over a 60-month term with $0 down payment. My parents bought a brand new 2010 F-150 Lariat 4x4 V8. Out the door it was like $35,000.
Last year I bought a 2012 F-250 Lariat crew cab 4x4 gas with 101,000 miles for $23,000 out the door. At a Ford dealership.
This truck will bottom out in about five years…
They are not worth what they are charging, all brands.
Buy a well cared for used truck, lot more value and I argue better reliability as well.

I see these absolutely everywhere down here in South Florida. Probably because it's the cheapest one to get. And since we don't have to worry about snow, most are 2WD and can be had for the $36K price you're mentioning. I do like the new LED headlights with the parking lights as the DRLs. It looks simpler in a good way. And some have compared it to the older F-150s from the early-mid 80s. I actually don't mind basic work trucks. It's all the truck you need. It has just enough safety and convenience features to keep buyers happy. The big Sync 4 touchscreen and fully digital gauge cluster are a surprise. And with the extra money you'll save on the most basic trim, you can use that for a lot of modifications to give it a personal touch.

You do actually get LED day running lights (those bright orange lines between the headlight elements) and you also get LED headlights and LED backup lights. I believe you also get auto high beams. Quite a bit of content for a base truck, but the price is still way too high.

For the money and for it being the base XL, this F-150 is actually nicely equipped. Although I would prefer the tried and true 5.0 Coyote V8.
I remember when even top trim pickup trucks back in the day there were features that were extra cost options that are now standard on base models. XL used to be Ford’s mid-level trim, btw. Giant fuel gauge? That was common on the Chevy trucks back in the day……Anyway tachometer was an extra cost option across the board. Even full instrumentation without tachometer was extra cost (except for the top trims). Air conditioning was an extra cost option across the board. Even AM/FM stereos were extra cost options across the board. Insulated interior? Unless you don’t mind the extra noise, you had to opt for at least a mid-level trim. Even cloth seats were an extra cost option……..I remember the Chevy C/K Silverado top trim had vinyl bench seat standard. You wanted cloth? You had to pay extra for the Chevy C/K. Ford actually made cloth seating standard on the XL and top of the line XLT trims back in the 1980’s.
All in all, this F-150 is a nice truck.

Take away the large digital cluster for a little info screen in a regular cluster plus a smaller infotainment screen as no one watching TV on it and lane keep as a true option which we can refuse.. knock 4000 off the price would make it really competitive.. Ford would sell ton more

36000 adjusted to inflation is about 18000 in 1997. 1997 standard cab trucks MSRP costing from 14000 from GM, 15000 for Dodge and 16000 for Ford. Dealer incentives and discount could go as low as $12000. The old days Ford GM and Chrysler slay each other for buyers, GM tend to stuffed with a lot of features and cost less than Ford or Dodge.

8 years ago I purchased a 2016 Silverado 1500 wt 4 door 6.5” bed with trailer package w v8 out the door for $33,500. I walked away from a 2 door Chevy wt with 8’ bed and trailer package and v8 $26k out the door. I’d like to buy a new Ford wt with same configuration. But prices are way up from 8 yrs ago. I’ll just keep driving my old Chevy. I could have purchased a Ford for a little less then the Chevy back then, and had a 8’ bed, but I was afraid of aluminum body, they were still having some problems when I was researching them, so purchased a Chevy. You could get a 4 door Ford 150 wt with an 8’ bed in a 1500 series pu.

Since 2021 on the 5.0, they have been using an oil pump belt and possibly on other motors in these. Most buyers are not aware of this and it's definitely something you need to know if you're planning long term. I would as I almost picked up a short bed 4x4 with the coyote. Just too expensive imo. I'll just keep my 13 Tacoma.

Can any dealership offer the XL maverick for $25,000? Or does ford only want people to buy a King Ranch maverick for $50,000? Its apparent ford doesnt want to produce the cheap trucks, they just want to charge more for the cheap trucks, to get people to spend another $10,000 for something they actually want.
