I have the Ford F150 lightning Pro. Cost me only $37k I’m never really worried about range because most people don’t drive 3 to 4 hours straight without stopping and it has access to all of the charging network, including the Tesla supercharger network! So every 3 to 4 hours you simply stop for 30 minutes use the bathroom, get a little something to eat, stretch your legs or take a little nap and that’s it. You’re back on the road. It comes with vinyl seats (which are very good and the last for a long time much stronger than leather even though it feels like a soft leather material) and the 12 inch screen, some safety features including: lane keeping automatic braking and such it only cost me $37k. And it came with the max tow package and Max Pro on board power at 9.6 kW. In my opinion, I got the best possible package. As for the screen for the 12 inch screen versus the 17 inch one it just seems too big but I could be wrong

From what I've heard, it's air resistance that's the range killer. Air resistants grows exponentially the faster you go. I heard slowing down to 65 mph makes a tremendous difference. Not saying that's a great solution but in the event you are running low on battery, slowing down a bit can gain you a few more miles to get you to that charging station. So that consumers get a better idea of range based on the type of driving they do, I think they should do the same thing they do for ice vehicles. You are so lucky, over here in Australia the 2023 Lightning LE (Launch Edition) which includes extended range price (on clearance) starts at $184,000 AUD and then add the accessories plus on road costs and we are over $200K. Crazy.
I love my Lightning. I have the 23 XLT 98 kwh battery 240 miles of range, I figure coming from a Tacoma with 300 miles, 240 was doable since I mainly use the truck as a commuter vehicle to work and I replenish my range every night at home. One pedal driving is my best feature with the lightning amongst storage, speed, outlets, no oil changes. And I got to say the supercharger access has made this truck much more competitive and valuable and Ford has greatly improved the Ford pass app where you can activate third party charging stations through the app if plug and charge isn't supported. It's a great truck overall except the towing part which I've done once in my lifetime of driving trucks .
I'm buying one of these for my work truck. I had a Maverick and just wanted more vehicle. We have an EV9 GT line for our family vehicle so this just makes sense.

Gm range estimates are very close to reality from what I've seen on videos. Winter temps are a different story, luckily here in muskegon the winters are mild compared to when I was young.
Im looking at possibly getting a 2024 flash, and this video is helping me make this decision. I live in "Bring Cash" BC where theres insane taxes and fees and fuel proces aren't friendly, so part of the reqson im considering this. I've had it for about a month now, and the biggest thing is the charging, and it's a real-world thing! Is yours your first EV? I'm looking at the F150 hybrid coming out 2025/26 at this time with the charging and distance when driving outside of the city.

I agree. Good point worth mentioning. I had been trying to set it up in the app without the knowledge it was absent initially. On a nearly $80k vehicle, should definitely come standard.
Idk man, I have had mine since April and not once have I found myself waiting for it to charge. I kinda just plug it into the power outlet before I go in the house and have never had a problem. There's electricity pretty much everywhere nowadays.
I commute 100 miles a day in ruralandia. No freeways, no traffic, just beat up roads. The LT Lariat ER charges at home, nails the 310 mile range estimate Mar-Oct except for Nov-Feb when it drops to 270 due to lower temps, greater headwinds, wet roads. Not all of us live along 75-80 mph freeways. Best truck I’ve ever had. Out pull my ‘99 7.3 SD. Like driving a Lincoln on steroids. Wife prefers it to all others. Pulls my boat, cargo, trailer @ hauls ass. Power at $.063/kwh saves me $5K net per year over gas. Also, your Flash review is pretty good. The new ‘25 prices turns our LT ER into a $100K truck 😳 equal to 4 Mavericks. Came within inches of a Mav hybrid. purchase in ‘22. The EVs are just too expensive and w/o charge at home.. hard to justify as DCFC charging is $$$.
This is the ultimate sleeper daily driver. There is no better vehicle on the road for that purpose. Imo. It's also insanely quiet and smooth to the point that my wife will not drive other vehicles. When she rides in other people's vehicles she now feels like there's always problems with them cuz they're so loud and noisy.
We find that too after driving our EV for the last 1.5 years...which is the reason we're now getting this one for our second vehicle. Just can't bring ourselves to buy another gas vehicle now, they're just so much better.
All 2024 Lightning trims come with the heat pump? If that’s true, I’m wondering if the standard range will actually see an improvement. I definitely have to consider winter temps in Iowa and need to park outside garage…just a lot of factors
You’re right that it could be considered deceptive to only quote one range, but I think we need to get off of range estimates entirely and start quoting efficiency, in both city and highway, just like ICE vehicles. The problem is the single range estimate is a combined city/highway, and EVs are more efficient in city slow and stop/go situations. At worst, if we’re going to stick with range estimates, we need to get both the city and highway estimates.
Between two vehicles at our household, we put over 30,000 annual miles on our EVs. One has a small battery with 100 mile winter range and 150 summer. The other can do 250+ per charge. We charge on a single 24 amp circuit, downgraded to 16 amps for daily driving. It's far from a lifestyle, they are capable appliances, no different from home HVAC, laundry and cooking appliances. Of course, one needs to plug in at home to gain these advantages.
Absolutely love this review. I am currently a Mach-E owner but I need a vehicle that will give me more space. Would you say the Lightning is the way to go?!?!?
Just a heads up to those of you that own this truck or thinking of getting this truck. In Canada each province is different in BC we range anywhere between 24 cent a kWh to 60 cent a kWh depends where you go. And in Alberta it ranges from 44 cents a kWh to 91 cents a kWh. Lower mainland we are cheaper then interior bc. However BC hydro chargers seem to stay the same 34 cents a kWh
For those trying to buy a Ford lightning right now there are several Ford dealerships that are pretty much giving them away. You can lease it for $255 per month for two years.
Good video. 320 miles of range is absolutely achievable in the Lightning with extended range battery. I’ve exceeded 320 several times. Like ICE vehicles, there are numerous factors that affect the range so you definitely won’t see 320 miles in all conditions, but it is not a specious claim by any stretch. It comes down to consumer education. EVs are opposite of ICE vehicles when it comes to range on the highway vs city. If I charge my Lightning to 100%, and only drive city, in nice weather, and don’t leave it sitting with AC running for too many hours, and run it right down to zero, I have seen mine do 350+ miles. Highway however, driving at 70 mph, in good weather and road conditions, it won’t go much further than 300. And given that charging stations are not every 5 miles yet, you really have to plan around 275 miles as your max range in good conditions.
Ford says it’s an 80k pickup truck. You agreed with them. They like people like you. Even 50k is too much in my opinion. Nice EV truck, but still crazy prices for trucks in general.
Our EV has used about 7,750 kw of energy over 35,000kms and about a year and a half. AWD mid size SUV-crossover style, 5 adults comfortable inside. Here in BC, that "fuel" cost me about $1,000 (~$0.12-$0.13/kwh). This means, it costs LESS THAN $3 in electricity to drive 100kms. Our Subaru hatchback would have burned about 3,500L of gas in that same distance, which costs about $6,000-$6,500 here. So the gas car would be like $5,000 - $5,500 more just in fuel, let alone the maintenance. Running an EV is very, very cheap. My comparison is less than 1/6th the cost of a hatchback subaru car, that can't do what this vehicle can do. My home charging setup cost $2,000. So even with that cost in year one, it was still cheaper. We only use public charging maybe 10x a year. Try an EV out. You can take these for an overnighter test drive these days, they're actually on dealer lots like normal cars now, go try one! All the best
Speed has a significant impact on range. you said at 75mph… that thing has the aerodynamics of a brick. I have a Land Cruiser and when I drive 75 vs 55 the rpm difference is significant but cars have bigger gas tanks. EV’s are so efficient that speed has a much greater impact than an ICE car.
I really like the lightening, but I may need to go Silverado EV because of the 440 range and insane charging speed. Used ones from enterprise have hit car dealers on CarGurus around 65K
I just got one. How do I get the Tesla NACS adapter? I hear it's free! The speed on this thing is ridiculous. You can quickly go over the speed limit without realizing it. I was on I94 and caught myself doing 90 because I was on the phone. I was used to the engine rev feedback to gauge my speed, but this is so quiet. As a first-time owner, I need a better way to let you know what you need, such as a home fast charger, which requires an electrician to get a 240V in the garage. I am not clear on how to get the NACS adapter.
It’s my understanding that with Flash and above, owners just had to sign in to their Fordpass accounts and enter shipping details; then the order would be queued. However, I believe the deadline for the “free” adapter ended on 10/1. I placed mine months ago and it has yet to arrive. Best bet is going aftermarket A2Z or Lectron for immediate use.
What happen ed to the financials? What made this a good deal? You get the $7500 in the spot during the lease and what other incentives? Not paying more than 80% of the msrp that's for sure. These depreciate too fast.
Another example of not understanding the EPA rating. The big displayed number is the combined drive range on the EPA cycle. It is not, nor has it ever been, hwy mileage a 70-75 mph. No vehicle gas, diesel, or otherwise gets the combined EPA range when on highway only. They may be less or more, but they won’t consistent match EPA
Irrespective of the calculation, the bottom line is that it’s indisputable that these vehicles do not get near the “mpg” or range as quoted on the window sticker. Whether it’s my AMG G63 getting 12 mpg or grandma’s Ford Focus she had 20 years ago, fact of the matter is that the driver achieves numbers relatively on par with what’s provided and knows what to expect. That’s just not the case with the great majority of EVs and improvement in clarity and expectation is needed for the benefit of the consumer.
@@p_kf GM seems to have a conservative approach to the EPA numbers. My 2024 Lyriq posts a 307 EPA mile battery range and the guess-o-meter was giving me consistently higher range estimates. So I ran a test run on the PA turn pike well past the "low" warning when the miles estimate is removed from the display. So, when my nerves could not take it any more I limped to a DC fast charger and plugged in at 321 miles and the car reported 2% on the charger display. The guess-o-meter was on par with the test run. Ten minutes on the DCFC got me home and brought it back up to my 70% normal charge using L2. My testing was at night and my speed checked at 70 MPH and did not use super cruise.
@@p_kf the real value of the EPA rating is as a comparison to other vehicles. It’s a refereed application of a mileage test that is supposed to be a consistent measure applied across the market. Any other take on it is a recipe for disappointment
I’m not defending the accuracy of mileage estimates, but wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s ‘deception’, a 75mph test for EV mileage is a test based on the exact opposite of EV benefits. Most drivers statistically don’t spent the day on the highway at 75 continually, some do most don’t. That’s the worst test scenario for any EV brand, EV’s get their ideal mileage performance in the city for stop and go around town (80% of driver use case). I found this as a surprise as it’s the reverse of ICE performance. Not picking a fight or saying that’s not true, but it’s not deceptive knowing how and when an EV is most effective.
They don't get the EPA range at 75 mph. That's gaslighting. Of course they don't get the EPA range at 75 mph. The mileage on my 2018 3.5L EcoBoost is within the margin of error when compared to the test parameters, but if am at 75 mph, my mileage drops dramatically.
As a commuter with an ev, I disagree with your point about commuting. 60 miles in 1 day is not far for any EV on the market. I'm happy for you that you are able to have this truck even tho you don't need a vehicle to get to work. But commuters are the people who stand to benefit from an EV.
Your comment made no sense. Gas vehicles rarely get the EPA rating. The trailer comment even makes less sense comparing to an EPA rating. Weather, driving habits terrain will always change the range regardless of gas or EV.
You’re correct. Should be amended to stated or claimed value from manufacturer versus real world achieved range. That’s the point I was trying to get across and most would agree.
He was just quoting. People need to be aware. Driving conditions can obviously affect, but if people see enough videos saying that the EPA range is way off, then they should be able to draw a proper conclusion. Instead of saying he makes no (strong and absolute) sense, please post a link for this vehicle that says the EPA was reasonably close. That would be more beneficial.

$37k is pretty solid for such a complete package. Unfortunately like much else, that entry point has eroded and it appears for MY24, the Pro is not even available for retail customers (fleet only at least for now). Though Ford is finally offering competitive lease programs to help fill that void.

Great commentary and self-awareness, better than most channels I’ve seen. Really good review
Really appreciate it. Thanks for the feedback and tuning in.
I bought one? Absolutely love it.
I'm buying one of these for my work truck. I had a Maverick and just wanted more vehicle. We have an EV9 GT line for our family vehicle so this just makes sense.
Let me give you a trick with the range: set it up to sport and turn off the pro power on board and you will get even more than 320. It’s crazy! I heard that didn’t believe it but then tried it and it’s real
Interesting. Will give it a go. Thanks!
Will it work in normal?
@@JimmyBamisI’ve tried it both way and normal without highway maybe gets close but sport works every time, make sure you kill all consumption but AC and radio.
Gm range estimates are very close to reality from what I've seen on videos. Winter temps are a different story, luckily here in muskegon the winters are mild compared to when I was young.
I've had my xlt extended range for 6 months... highway and city 2.8 on my long trip meter... that's 366 miles... way more than the 320...
Awesome. Glad to hear that.
Picked up this trim and love the drive. The doors don’t always automatically lock when you walk away so I have to be careful.
Im looking at possibly getting a 2024 flash, and this video is helping me make this decision. I live in "Bring Cash" BC where theres insane taxes and fees and fuel proces aren't friendly, so part of the reqson im considering this. For me to drive up to kelown and back is about 250 to 300 just in gas in my raptor, so this could help with that and the trips. I'd just have to get used to stopping and charging.
I have a Toyota Tacoma and looking at changing to flash myslef and I drive to and from Calgary a few times a year to see my in-laws. Just spent $200 in gas to get here the other day. My in-laws spent less then that in there Tesla. Plus being able to use Tesla fast chargers will help with deciding to get the flash
@@alexandersebastiani1356 I just got my flash. All I can say is that I'm happy on all fronts.
@@proudcanadian1837 Thats good to hear. where abouts in BC? We get ours in about a week as well, Flash trim too. Is this your first EV ever?
@tannermcnabb4836 I'm in metro van but drive to the interior regularly. I got the extended range to approx 500+ kms.
I've had it for about a month now, and the biggest thing is the charging, and it's a real-world thing!
Is yours your first EV?
I'm looking at the F150 hybrid coming out 2025/26 at this time with the charging and distance when driving outside of the city.
@@proudcanadian1837 I just did the drive from Vancouver to Calgary last week in the flash $220 round trip. Merrit is gonna get the v4 Tesla chargers up and running soon at the hotel there near Burger King they have a few pull through chargers that will be game changer for the truck.
This is a great review. Lots of good information and the drive is excellent.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for taking the time to check it out.
My only issue with the flash trim is that they dont give you PHONE AS KEY. Stupid it only comes on top two trims.
I agree. Good point worth mentioning. I had been trying to set it up in the app without the knowledge it was absent initially. On a nearly $80k vehicle, should definitely come standard.
I took share this complaint. So messed up
Idk man, I have had mine since April and not once have I found myself waiting for it to charge.
Yes, the entire lineup. Will be interesting to see how it translates in the real world.
Personally I think highway only is the way. City range is largely irrelevant as a consideration unless your driving for uber.
Please do a 0-60 test. You would be the first with the new year & model. 2024 Ford Lightning Flash 👍🙂
I’ll be sure to check it out. Numbers appear to be consistent with the other extended range models. ~3.8-3.9 sec. Thanks for tuning in.
Thanks very much. I’d certainly recommend it. Loads of room, storage, and practicality all around.
I'm in southern Ontario. From 7pm-7am I only pay $0.08 per kW
For those trying to buy a Ford lightning right now there are several Ford dealerships that are pretty much giving them away. You can lease it for $255 per month for two years.
Plus 0% for 75 months
Good to know as a fellow
Lightning owner.
Does ford allow you to purchase at the end of the lease?
Yes there is a buyout option.
Ford says it’s an 80k pickup truck. You agreed with them. They like people like you.
Even 50k is too much in my opinion. Nice EV truck, but still crazy prices for trucks in general.
I'm concerned about usage during the winter. Also, I am concerned about charging it. I'm wondering how badly it would affect my electric bill
How quiet is the cabin? Esp on highway?
Very quiet. Negligible NVH levels. Relaxing place to be on highway commutes. Only real noticeable sensation is some tire noise, but to be expected.
Do you need to visit a dealership for software updates?
No. Done over the air/via WiFi.
I think the offer ended. There is a popup when you first created your ford pass login on the app. I missed clicking on it and lost out on the offer.
I really want a Lightning but I live in Michigan 😢 not to mention the monthly payment would be insane 😮
I never never seen one of those going down the road with a Payload or trailer. Trucks that truck.
Why u chose Flash over Lariat
whats the range on the Flash?
If u had the chance to upgrade to a platinum for say $7.5 more would you
What the range ?
What happen ed to the financials? What made this a good deal? You get the $7500 in the spot during the lease and what other incentives? Not paying more than 80% of the msrp that's for sure. These depreciate too fast.
What happened to the R?!
Any other take on it is a recipe for disappointment
thats because i have a standard range that i can get my 240 range some times better a lot depends how u drive it
I’m not defending the accuracy of mileage estimates, but wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s ‘deception’, a 75mph test for EV mileage is a test based on the exact opposite of EV benefits.
Love my lightning. Hate the frunk. It’s slow and awkward to open and close. I rather have it manually operated.
Dont like that the 25 models dont have the smart scales.
Next time, make the video facing towards road!!!
You are not saving money. It all has to be paid in cash
Drive @ 75 mpg in a gas vehicle and you won't get the EPA range estimate either.
Your just like who i figured bought a lightening. Govt worker/ teacher. Reg citizens cant afford the lightening. Plus you have tine to charge it. Real american dont have time to wait to use it again while it charges
Funny my wife is a teacher and she drives the lightning because she loves how quiet and smooth the truck is....
Most schools in sc have free ev charging.
You charge at home while you sleep, Bro
Not impressed
$37k is pretty solid for such a complete package. Unfortunately like much else, that entry point has eroded and it appears for MY24, the Pro is not even available for retail customers (fleet only at least for now). Though Ford is finally offering competitive lease programs to help fill that void.
I'm a Pro owner, too. Glad to find another person with the same trim. I agree with you on everything. I have no range issues, but have only taken it on one 200 mile trip and got home with plenty of range left. I've owned mine one year and since getting it, hardly ever drive my Model 3. This truck is amazing. Thanks for the post.
@@p_kf I believe the fleet only is for the long range battery no? For a little while you couldn’t get any of the pros whether long range or standard range and then for some reason, they opened it up to regular consumers to buy the pro. Or in my case, you simply get it used and there’s tons and tons of used Ford lightning pros
