I have a 23 xl STX 4wd fx4 super crew with the 2.7 Ecoboost. In eco mode and driving like a grandpa I’m getting like 23 in town and the lil engine never seems to climb above 2,000 rpm, only 165 cubic inches I’m blown away how good it runs, pulls my 5,500 pound camper really well and yep like everything I’ve ever driven pulling a camper fuel mileage drops to about half. This is my second F150 with this great lil engine, the first I drive 94k 6 years and not the first problem, stay on the maintenance and I think it’s a pretty great lil engine.

@@user-fz3sz2dj4rI suggest you go to Fuelly and check out 23’s F150’s with 2.7 Ecoboost, no doubt that 23 mpg puts me into the 2nd best quadrant, but proves it’s possible. Yesterday we drove from Princeton West Virginia to Lewisburg West Virginia all 2 lane rural roads top speed maybe 60, but majority of the drive around 50 due to curves it’s roughly a 65 mile trip one way, the truck was showing 25.8 mpg when I arrived, filled it up and calculator checked and actual mileage was 23.8 all driven in ECO mode and no hard acceleration on starts. Maybe in town was a bad description because I might have a couple red lights to deal with, so maybe rural driving is a better term.

The whole trip was made in eco mode and elevation change was not a factor to returned same route.

I bought a new 4WD F-150 XL in 2015 with the 2.7. It now has about 107,000 miles on it with no major problems. I get 20 mpg every day and around 22mpg on the highway. Early on I had the leaky oil pan issue which Ford took care of. I ignored the factory suggestion for extended oil change times and have changed my oil on a 3000 mile schedule. If you get the tow package you get the factory transmission cooler that really helps extend tranny life whether you tow anything or not. My only beef is that I will have to replace the driver side seat soon. Cheap foam. Overall, best truck I ever had and it will never rust.

I am considering a 2024 XLT crew cab with the 2.7. My test drive was impressive. It felt very quick even with light throttle input. The truck had a noticeably light feel. I plan on keeping this one for a long time. Here in the Northeast the all aluminum body has appeal as rust is a real issue. It seems that the 2.7 has fewer problems than the larger 3.5 but the 3.5 has also been out there longer so more problems may have been reported. Still, I do like this truck. Does the truck require premium fuel?

I get that the wet belt for the oil pump is a surprisingly perplexed decision from Ford over the older chain design just to increase a 1% smoothness factor 🤷🏽‍♂️ They are thinking these motors will last past 150k with this setup so by then most will need an excuse to trade up so perhaps planned obsolescence on Fords part. I'm sure your average shadetree mechanic can replace the belt when it's at it's end life. I do think the 2.7 V6 is a great alternative to the 5.0 V8 and 3.5 V6. For my money I'm sticking to what has worked for decades and more easier to work on average over any turbocharged V6 especially now with the duel fuel injection system. If your towing in higher elevations then the turbos make sense but to me the naturally aspirated V8 is more proven and can be rebuilt and enhanced easier. I'm however grateful that Ford is now offering a choice of engine options over their previous stick to a couple motors philosophy and use it in everything they make. You really can't beat the lineup of different powertrains in their various models. Offering over 10 engine options accross various models is impressive. Whether diesel, gas, hybrid or fully electric Ford has something for practically everyone who drives. Providing they prove reliable and most have they will remain a top tier auto manufacturer 🤙🏽🇺🇲

Hi! I’m thinking of getting a used F-150 with the 2.7 Ecoboost as daily work truck. I have a commute of 40 mile one-way (1.5 hrs) then another 1hr drive home in horrid SoCal traffic. I haul mostly network cabling installation equipment in the bed, and do not tow.
What model year and grade do you recommend? I would like to have some of the newer active safety features such as the automatic emergency braking system to avoid front collisions, but not as critical as long-term reliability and durability. Any suggestions for a late model 2.7 F-150 with Direct and Port Injection. Also, what immediate and affordable engine and transmission mods for reliability and durability are recommended? I’m not looking for more power, just long-term reliability and durability as I don’t have too much money and need a truck for work and personal use. Thank you!

I bought a 2021 XLT 4WD about 6 months ago and love it. Even with 45k miles when I bought it, engine ran great and transmission shifted smooth. Get about 20mpg combined, 22+ on longer road trips.
Has 120V plug in the bed (could be good for work). I also don’t tow, but frequently carry around a lot with me, there’s tons of space in the supercab once the seat go up.
Only bit of advice - go with the STX over an XLT. I wanted some of the higher end stuff (sunroof, bigger screen) but realizing now I don’t need it.
STX priced better than most XLTs and still looks great IMO.
Can’t really go wrong with any F150 of this generation, seems they really nailed it.

I have a 2019 F150 STX 2.7 ecoboost 4x4 and IT IS DEAD AT 81,000 miles. I went to the Dealership paid $220 for multi point inspection and they say it has a 8 precent compression loss on Cylinder 6 only and a minor misfire on Cylinder 3 and can't tell me why that is without doing another diagnostic for $700 dollars to do full compression test, boroscope and a cylinder leak test and if it turns out to be a bad cylinder head that repair could take $3000 or more to fix. Also the dealership tells me I am not under any FORD warranty since it is over 60k or 5 years. But the truck had a exended service plan, So I do not know if they are lying to me. It doesn't blow any smoke or is loosing any oil or coolant. It is a minor shaking during idle and when you accelerate or have a load on the engine it starts to shake and vibrate badly but at over 2500 RPM The rough engine shaking smooths almost where you cannot tell it has an issue. I have never modified the truck and only just drove it normally with all oil changes. I am afraid to even to start it now because I fear the misfire could break the crankshaft. I think it is the cylinder head valves but I do not know. It did start having a minor occasional misfire on cylinder 6 for the past several months before it got really bad on cylinder 6 and now it has a minor misfire on cylinder 3 and a major one on cylinder 6. I did change the all of the spark plugs and coil packs that didn't help and all of the spark plugs looked okay (I thought maybe a spark plug ground strap broke but that did not happen). I fear both cylinder heads might have the same issue now since cylinder 3 on the oppisite head now misfiring. I am very broke and this is the worst time this could have happened to me. I still owe $25k. Was I just the un-luckly one or is there someone who had this same issue that can tell what might be wrong. Is it possible take this up with Ford directly? Does anyone know what I should do next? I do not see any recalls or TSB from Ford on this except for Ford made bad valves on the 2021 years? Can anybody please help me ?

After the last catastrophic breakdown during camping on my Dodge my wife said she will never go again in that Dodge.I only have 225k miles on the Ram diesel so I am disappointed with the truck.
I am going to buy another used low miles Ford with ecoboost 2.7L. My only concern is the 2 turbos and the oil pump belt. Why on earth Ford would use a belt for oil pump? I did my homework and that thing is very involved and hard to replace. I do the repair but it will cost a bundle having the shop do it.

But if you do, what will 2 turbos cost? And the Ford 10 speed transmission isn't holding up for much more than 150k, even doing drain, and fills, every 30k.

It’s those steep Louisiana Mountains, up here in Southern West Virginia it’s where the tiny engine makes plenty of power, I pull a 5,500lb camper 6 or 7 times a year, not a problem and will walk away from my brother-in-law’s 5.3 Chevy.

Just because you have no idea how to drive a turbocharged vehicle, does not make it bad lmao. Take your truck out of economy mode grandma. My 2.7L eats 5.0Ls for breakfast. Even before i tuned it, i was neck n neck until 70 mph then fell behind obviously, but after the tune, 5.0's don't want the smoke 🤣

@slicknick4140 it's in the so called sport mode lame slick shlick. Lmao 2.7 is a joke and a waste. You put the same amount of upgrade in to a v8. And you would never even come close. Lmao. I forgot more about driving then you will even learn. Now pipe down Grown men are talking son. Go back to playing your video games. Leave REAL WORLD driving to the grown ups. 😆

@@LouisianaBayouLife A 'grown up' who can't even speak nor type in English, clearly from Louisiana 😂 "I forgot more about driving then you will even learn' wtf does that even mean 💀💀 Clearly a child with that vocabulary, maybe spend more time with Hooked on Phonics and less time on RUclips. You can't put that same amount of upgrades on a V8 because a tune can't make up 50 horsepower out of thin air with a naturally aspirated engine, unlike boosted engines. Real mechanics are speaking boy, go find a sandbox or another F150 forum to ask your basic oil change questions on.

@slicknick4140 yep. Lol, NOPE. MY 2016 F150 V8 PULLS AWAY FROM THIS TRASH 2.7 EVERYTIME. Guess you did not read my whole post. Yes, I change modes, and it's all trash. Regular mode soiboi eco mode. And the joke sports mode. ROFLMAO. Pulling my 20-foot Ranger bassboat. Will never try that again. 2.7 Just don't have the power to pull my boat out of the water. And if you put that much work and money into both the v8 and the 2.7. The v8 hands down wins everytime. . Cool thing bout the v8. It's just raw power from day one.
The 2.7 is like a trans truck. It sounds like and drives like a honda Civic dressed up like a truck. Lmao. Most expensive yard trash iv ever bought. I drive my 2016 every day. The new truck just sets in the backyard dusty. Till I find a buyer.
