As a kid growing up in Southern West Virginia we had a saying, that boy could tear up a steel anvil, that goes with trucks too, maintenance, warm up before you get on em and realize that there machines and not drag cars, I don’t think most people have enough sense to take care of vehicle anymore! On my 2nd 2.7 Ecoboost powered F150 and both have been flawless, but I’m easy on em and let them turbos cool down for a minute or two when I get home, also never miss a oil change.
Yes not true. I get a work truck every 100k miles. My last one was a 2018. Had a 5.0l. Needed cam phasers at about 80k miles. It always had the oil changed Early and didn't haul anything heavy.
My 2012 5.0 had 300k before I traded it with out one problem! The new 23- 5.0 f150 I am close to getting 60k and it’s just a towing beast! Like the older one pulls my 10k trailer smooth shifts well at times on long up hills it tends to be screaming but it’s a 5.0 that loves the high rpm’s. My brothers 3.5 is just as nice but tends to be a bit faster to 55 mph. And mpg are 1.6 different from his to mine his being better of course. Sounds like you have a no love lost when it comes to ford but good review!
Personally I've never ran into anyone that has had any of these problems. I have a 2013 3.5 with 165k miles and an 2018 v8 with 30k miles. Both have had no issues, other then regular maintenance you'd expect.
We are doing research to get a new truck. All I hear from people is that they all “know a guy” who has had major problems with their F150s. I personally know 2 of those people and they said they will never buy a ford again. Yet somehow the F150 is topping all the lists of people ranking the best trucks to buy for the last 5 years. So I’m at a loss.. what really is the state of ford these day?
I had the 2012 Raptor with a 6.2 I sold a couple weeks ago in a cord hybrid kind of crazy switch but it was a great truck and I never had any problems with it
I have the 2020 3.5 with the 10 speed. The only time I have rough shifts is when I have old or bad gas ⛽️, or old air filter. Either way, the ECU seems to get confused, causing hard or erratic shifts. Run the fuel out, use STP Ultra, fill the tank, change the air filter, OEM Motorcraft, and drive as normal, avoiding harsh enthusiastic runs for 100 miles. 💯 Works. Also charge the battery cleaning the terminals and top of the battery. And if you have a minute, check the ground to chassis. This will be found at the heart of many problems. ❤️
If you’re burning oil now, the damage is already done… the piston rings could be seized, I’m sure the cylinders are worn out. Simply changing the oil viscosity isn’t going to fix anything!… get rid of it!
@Swindy1794 it's not extreme oil usage like I said oil consumption improved greatly by switching to 5w30 oil, these engines have sprayed on cylinder liners instead of iron sleeves I think this might be the issue The truck has depreciated to much to sell it at this stage, 80,000 km. And no repair bills.
I had a 2018 F150 with the 3.5L. It had the top of the engine replaced 2 times under warranty. Cam phasers. The third time at 125k I had to pay $4000+ to have it fixed a third time. I sold the truck due to a hard shift into overdrive.
Yes 19 & 21 both 5.0's no problems. Change oil every 5000 if they burn a 1/2 quart off leave them alone and just monitor chances are it won't burn off anymore. Sometimes engines don't like oil all the way to the top mark.
I got two 2003's....they good, both are 4.6 v8....but their weakness is burning up coil packs...but thats an easy DIY project....I hate the fancy electronics in newer trucks...
10-speed (10R80) transmission you say is good but then go on to list a bunch of safety concerns. IMO I would avoid this transmission. Maybe the newer spec w/upgrades are an improvement but I’d wait a while before getting one. The 6-speed (6R80) still the most reliable IMO. 5.0L Gen1 engine is good. Earlier years (2011-2013) have had problems with the intake valves bending causing compression leaks and misfires. Gen3 is plagued with issues especially years 2018-2020 and should be avoided. Gen4 not a fan of new updates/features as you have mentioned. I think by far the best 5.0 is the Gen2. Still has port injection and all the fixes of the gen1, without the extra new crap they added with the newer generations. Also just a watch out… the 5.0’s are prone to coolant leaks. Worth mention the 5.4L triton should be avoided at all costs. It is garbage. So far my biggest complain with my F150 has been the vacuum type IWE. At 85k miles I already went thru 2 sets.
Which is better in the Ford F150 cars, a V8 or a 3.6 turbo in terms of use? I am about to buy a Ford F150 2024. In Saudi Arabia, there are V8 and V6 turbos available. Which one do you advise me to choose from between the two engines? Your answer will make me decide to buy
Go V8 I've worked at Ford here in Canada. Where I live it's harsh winter's (roads are salted in winter here) and hot humid summers. The V6 turbos blow turbo seals usually just before 100k. I've owned the 2016 f150 V8 as well. Absolutely no issues for 100k before I sold it I'm just about to buy another 2016 f150

Bought mine in 2016 with the 5.0 and other than some minor electrical nuances has been a very solid truck so far at 100k kms. I’m afraid to trade it in cause I don’t want to deal with truck issues due to over complicated technology in the new ones. Too many potential points of failure.
I have trouble with brakes Acceleration when you step on brake at slow speeds it will start to accelerate.l have had two accidents and just got it back from being repaired.l have a f150 2021 hybrid.l thought the first accident was maybe my fault .But the second one l knew it was not me fault.l had my foot hard the brake .Sign come saying collisions, collision l could not stop it tthe come with auto braking system.
I was in the market for a f150 till i started doing research and the reliability scared me away. Silverado and Sierra aren't any better. The reliability of a Tundra is much better. There's a few bad years for the tundra but most years rate really high unlike the ford's and chevys which the majority of years are horrible.
Sold mine with 75k miles an no issues. Having said that, I wouldn't buy one now unless it's 21 or newer since it has the upgraded CDF drum which is the thing causing the issues.
