@@Step_0newell your a nasty person for being so untrusting. You really watch Arlo and come away think he’d lie to us, let alone lying for money. You obviously haven’t listened long to the guy
Hopefully there will be more opportunities for further DLC expansions. Namely... involving the 2003 continuity into the mix. _It has potential for a second huge update._
Turtles in Time was a decent game but the mechanics definitely needed a bit of extra, stuff, to it. Maybe a button for dashing, maybe a button for grab instead of half circle rotate the d-pad standing right next the guy or what ever it was. Shredder's Revenge takes that asetic and then gives it some well needed mechanical complexity. It's not like super complex or anything but it gives the player that little bit of extra agency in how they interact with the game.
Disagree. This game doesn't play as well as Turtles in Time. The sliding after the run animation, the control running diagonal isn't as tight etc. There are issues gameplay wise hardcore beat em up players don't like about Shredders Revenge. Great game but not 100% better than Turtles in Time.
I disagree 100%! Below are reasons why I think Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time is still better than Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge: (1)The 2D sprite design of the characters still stands the test of time. (2)The music, sound clips, and sound effects played a huge roll in bring out the personality of the game. (3)It was long enough to not wear out it’s welcome. (4)The game play was easy, simple, and fun! (5)MODE 7 effects!!! Nice to see at the time. (6)The game reflects the version of the cartoons I feel is the best or one of the best; The 80’s cartoon.3 There may be a bit of bias, but I think most of my points stand. With Shredder’s Revenge, I feel like the chosen art style isn’t as memorable and it isn’t unique. It’s so similar to other modern side-scroller best ‘em up titles. The music, while good, wasn’t great with the exception of select tracks. And, the stage levels, some at least, were rather dull and boring. I hope TMNT: TIT gets a remaster that allows the game to be played in wide-screen 16:9 format that doesn’t appear to be stretched.
Usagi Yojimbo is a very long running comic by Stan Sakai. Very charming, lots of fun, set in historic Japan. I believe Usagi and the Turtles have had crossovers in the comics before. Also if you ever find yourself at a comic convention where Sakai has a booth, stop by and say hi - he's very friendly and always a good chat.
Correction -- both properties crossed over primarily in animated shows. Oh, and the 2003 era-based videogame _Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus._
Fun fact: Usagi isn't even a Ninja Turtles character, but in fact a guest character from their own series of comics that crosses over with the Ninja Turtles both in comics and several of the cartoons with relative frequency. Some people don't even realize Usagi has his own comics. Pretty cool get from this team.
The main game was already amazing, but this dlc really looks like it'llmake it feel fresh again. Both the new characters are favorites of mine, and while I don't usually bother with survival modes, this one looks like it wil be a lot of fun. I especially can't wait to play as the bosses.

@DragonForceV12 I never loved the art style, but the turtles faces are soooo expressive, and the animation and movement is so lively that it really makes up for it. In my opinion it's the perfect turtles show
Usagi is the star of Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo comic book, a samurai epic taking place in a world of animal people. Because the Sakai and Eastman & Laird were close, a few crossovers happened in their comics before Usagi appeared in the 1987 TMNT cartoon. Usagi was also a semi-recurring character for the 2003 toon, and also popped up in the 2012 show. Karai is a high-ranking Foot ninja from Japan who took over the New York Foot following the Shredder's demise. She never showed up in the 1987 toon, but was included in the 2003 toon, as well as the 2007 movie and 2012 show. She was also included in some versions of the Tournament Fighters.
I absolutely ADORE how Usagi Yojimbo has been such a mainstay in TMNT content since the early days-- and he's not even really a TMNT character. If anybody out there is curious about what is up with this character, read the Usagi Yojimbo comics by Stan Sakai. Just start anywhere, don't worry about where to begin. The art looks cartoony and maybe kind of simple at first glance but trust me, the series is not kid stuff.
Glad you love this. I personally never lost my interest in the 80's turtles, and i really love this game. Hearing sich high praise from you when its not 100% your type of game is a testement to this game and also your flexibility as a reviewer.
My brother & I just last week finally received our PS5 & Switch TMNT: Shredder's Revenge collector's editions from Limited Run Games (goes perfectly with our Cowabunga Collection collector's editions) and we been having a blast playing this radical love letter to the classic TMNT arcade games that we grew up with. Dotemu is a godsend for retro gaming fans to put out both Streets of Rage 4 & TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, makes me hope that they do Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Final Fight or Comix Zone next.
Turtles arcade and the NES port was my little brother and my go-to co-op game when we were kids. We even got our mom to play it with us. So when Shedder's Revenge (and The Cowabunga Collection) dropped you bet we pre-ordered and then just blitzed through the campaign on a nostalgia high. Excellent game and I'm really looking forward to this DLC.
Shredders Revenge was the game of the summer for me last year. I don't really have time for games this year anymore(still trying to clear Pikmin 4) but I will definitely buy this DLC just to support the developers because their passion for turtles is genuine and they gave us a quality product last year. I will play this eventually I just do not know when
I love all of your videos and this one didn't disappoint. I'm glad that you understand what Shredder's revenge is all about. I put 120 hours into the base game and I'm already 10 hours into survival with just a few characters at levels 3-6. I can't stop. It's one of the best survival modes I've played. And the roguelike elements are incredible 🤯
I bought this game close to release but only got around to playing it last week. What a blast! I'm playing it with an arcade stick and it just makes it even more nostalgic and fun. I'm definitely grabbing this DLC.
I just got the dlc today. Playing as Usagi Yojimbo made this whole package worth it, alone. But the Survival Mode makes an already outstanding game even better. Nothing but love. ❤❤❤❤
When I heard about the DLC I was intrigued, then they showed Usagi and I got excited. I was a little, very small, saddened that Ninjara was back dropping only (was my hope for the other playable), but did show that this team dug DEEP. Looking forward to getting back into it with the DLC.
I'm not even sure they own the rights to Ninjara- I BELIEVE I heard once on the ibternet long ago, so grain of salt and all, that the artist who created her got the copyright to her and made a solo series? So that might make her tricky to navigate around.
@@goranisacson2502 I do remember seeing them stand alone in a comic way way way back when, so very possible. Still, she's there in the BG and I can be happy of at least that. I still would have enjoyed knocking heads with her, but what can ya do? XD

Ooh, neat! First of all, I love that Ninjara is in the background of one of those scenes, since she was one of my favorite characters from the Archie TMNT comics back in the day. Second, it's cool to see that not only is the DLC available tomorrow, but that Karai is also a new playable character. I don't know why Karai seems to be depicted as part of the "good guy" team here, but maybe that's explained in the game (then again, I have yet to even finish a single playthrough of the main game at this point, so...).
I already love Arlo’s videos and now that he has said he used to be a huge fan of TMNT has got me excited. With that being said I would love to see him review the cowabunga collection or the last ronin game when it comes out, also who here would love to see arlo tackle other forms of media in his style of review (maybe even see some new TMNT content or rewatch the old stuff from his childhood), either way I love your video and now am even more excited for the dlc
You're not familiar with Usagi Yojimbo? Dude, you've got to read Stan Sakai's comic books. He started around the same time as Eastman and Laird's Turtles, but still publishes new material to this day. It's about a wandering Ronin in feudal Japan. Everyone is an anthropomorphic animal, but it's not a book for kids. There's violence, drama, and surprisingly high stakes. And the artwork is breathtaking. Sakai has won a ton of Eisner Awards over the decades, and deserved every single one of them.
This game sure LOOKS COOL. It’s not exactly a genre I super… care to play, but this game looks so cool it’s one I would willingly play, if given the chance.
Thanks Arlo! I do value your honest opinion. As for me, I bounced off this game hard. I tend to only buy a few games a year, so I spend way too much time thinking about what I'm gonna get and play, because I tend to play the same game for months on end (I don't know when I'll ever be done with TOTK, maybe in ten years?). The base game came so highly recommended that I thought this was a no brainer. I ended up playing it for one sitting, beating the main game a couple times, and being like oh okay that's really it. What is everyone so excited about? Nothing about the game is bad. Everything you talked about is true. The only thing you didn't give the attention it deserved is the soundtrack, which was incredible. But, I just can't get excited for a two hour game, and even that two hours is mostly button mashing. I hear folks hating on Metroid Dread and Kirby and the Forgotten Land for being short. Metroid Dread is ten hours minimum for your first playthrough, and I ended up doing like 5 playthroughs or something. Kirby is like 25-30 hours for 100% completion, which I found to be extremely rewarding. This is 2 hours! With absolutely no real changes in gameplay!
I'm kinda curious now if you used to play beat em up games like these back in the 90's? I aks mostly because I did, and when you say "don't change" I presume you mean that the game plays mostly the same from start to finish? Because that's mostly how these games used to be back then, so it may be a question of what you're used to and expect. I didn't expect a longlasting game at all since I was familiar with how these arcade-style games go, but I suppose you had different expectations?
@@goranisacson2502 Yeah I grew up on the Super Nintendo, so the two I remember are Turtles in Time and Batman Returns. They weren't my favorite games then, and I think they've aged extremely poorly. Like, how can you compare Super Mario World and DKC2 to Turtles in Time I don't understand. I'm not trying to say opinions are invalid, I'm just saying this game is not for me. What does irk me is when folks criticize a 10 hour, highly replayable game, as being short.
I was never too big on Turtles as a kid, and when the base game came out I went through it and got satisfied enough, but not really swept away. Still, I will purchase the DLC because Arlo recommends it, should Dotemu be looking at the comments to see if their sponsorship helped drive up sales.

I just wish the 80s tmnt weren't used everywhere these days, give some spotlight to 2003, 2012 & Rise I'm glad the DLC has costumes that reference those other shows at least
I played this game, and I'm surprised at how good it is. All remakes should capture the spirit of the originals and improve upon it like this game does.
Lmao i kinda want arlo to start doing commentary on like, real world stuff lmao. Like id love to hear arlos take on the "ice cream so good" trend cus he usually has pretty interesting opinions
Is anyone else having trouble with the final stage? I’ve tried to beat Shredder about 50 times and I keep losing. I’m having trouble with the timing. I’ll never unlock Casey Jones at this rate. 😔

If you're not a fan of TMNT, you'll still enjoy this game
If you're a fan of TMNT, you'll enjoy this game even more
Young adult altered shinobi terrapin hype!
I got this game when it released 100%d it and loved it
Thanks to the DLC I rediscovered my Love for this Game!
Why this update isn't in mobile version?
I LOVE THIS GAME!!!
I like when you talk about games outside of the Nintendo-sphere and think you should more often!😊
I'm a 90's kid too, except I didn't spend that much time in an arcade, I was too busy playing Nintendo games in my home or at a friend's house
“Oh boy! A new Arlo video!”
*is actually just an Ad/Sponsor*
😢
I need to give this one a go. I completely missed the initial release so this is a great excuse for me to pick it up. Great review Arlo
I'm shell shocked that you are reviewing this - It's the only other game besides Pokémon and Zelda that I've absolutely loved to play handheld
Arlo has aged himself with this video, he must of been a 80’s or 90’s kid. Nothing wrong with that, I’m 41 myself and love TMNT, and USAGI
Tribute Games should make a X-Men game.
Someone needs to save the turtles from Nickelodeon so we can have cool games, movies and cartoons again
It's really good!! A instant hood classic
This is my pick for best game of 2023. Such a blast from my childhood. Good stuff 😊
They need to go back and spend more time on Donatello. His slide attack, side special and dodge follow-up all use the exact same animation.
I was never too big on Turtles as a kid, and when the base game came out I went through it and got satisfied enough, but not really swept away. Still, I will purchase the DLC because Arlo recommends it, should Dotemu be looking at the comments to see if their sponsorship helped drive up sales.
Wtf are you talking about
DLC sounds a lot like Mr. X's nightmare DLC for Streets of Rage 4. Makes sense tho due to DOT Emu having worked on that too.
this game single handly got me back into Beat'em ups
This game is great and soooooo many other amazing beat em ups !!!!!
I got TMNT on pc
Mite have to buy for the Switch oled as well.
Btw , when u taunt , you get a special move ....

River city girls 2
Double dragon 🐉 the new one and Neon

So many more!
The new dlc in tmnt reminds me of COD zombies , the good days !
It's fun af
Definitely buying it!
Can't wait to get the guys together and try this
I just wish the 80s tmnt weren't used everywhere these days, give some spotlight to 2003, 2012 & Rise
I'm glad the DLC has costumes that reference those other shows at least
Best game and cartoon of ALL TIME.
TURTLES FIGHT WITH HONOR 🐢..........
I loved the main game and if the dlc is more amazing content, I will be there no matter what
Yes, this game is so great. Makes me feel like a kid again. :)
If you do wanna try some other Turtles media, I would recommend the 2012 animated series. It's really, REALLY good.
I think it's cool they included Ninjara in the background.
And many, many others... _Fugitoid, Hothead, Armaggon, Screwloose, etc._
I can relate with that intro clip.
I played this game, and I'm surprised at how good it is. All remakes should capture the spirit of the originals and improve upon it like this game does.
0:00 so is Arlo also the singer of Disturbed?
Lmao i kinda want arlo to start doing commentary on like, real world stuff lmao. Like id love to hear arlos take on the "ice cream so good" trend cus he usually has pretty interesting opinions
The mods for this mode will be 🔥
They really ripped off Streets of Rage 4 with the "Rogue-lite" survival mode.
Is anyone else having trouble with the final stage? I’ve tried to beat Shredder about 50 times and I keep losing. I’m having trouble with the timing. I’ll never unlock Casey Jones at this rate. 😔
