You had me subscribed in 27 seconds!! I have not even seen the rest of the video and I just know you are going to knock this out of the park!! Thanks and keep making these videos! Edit: Yep I was right....Great video, Very well made!!
You are so easy to watch! We just got this microphone and wanted to know how to set up the Gain and your review heloed a lot. Have subscribed and looking forward to more!
Great video! I didn't find the music distracting to be honest. I think this is a great microphone system, if only it was just a tad smaller, but I'm willing to live with it's size.
Hey man, I've been having an issue with a faint beeping noise, while recording. It's not constant, but rather random. I'm not sure what's causing it, but I'm using a Google pixel phone.
Hi. Sorry for bugging you with questions but I don’t know where to ask- is it completely compatible with iPhone 15 through usb c? I want to use it as a mic for fast vlogs edited right on the phone and main idea is to pre-setup eq, gain and stereo mode on the receiver and use received video audio without any difficult postproduction. Is it possible with m650?
Thanks! The only thing I could think would be you may be getting interference between the transmitter and receiver. Are you recording via your smartphone or on the device itself? If it's on the device, I haven't had that issue. When just transmitting to the phone, though, I have had it drop out, but VERY seldomly - and honestly I don't think I've had it happen since I stopped using the pre-release software.
Another great review! A commenter on your Ultimate Smartphone Audio Mic Showdown video recently mentioned that his AnkerWork M650 would randomly stop recording on its own. Have you experienced that at all?
Thanks! I haven't had it drop out yet, but honestly the only time I've gone back to the onboard recordings were if there was an interruption in my wireless transmission. I had a few of those hiccups when I was running the beta firmware, but since I've gotten them back I haven't had any noticeable dropouts. I'll watch to see if they stop recording on me, though!
I want to use this with a DSLR camera., if i use my m650 with it, connected! Do i still have to sync audio in post? I was hoping it would automatically be embedded in the video file
You can use it with a DSLR! The very first time I tested it out I actually put it directly into my Blackmagic 6k Pro. Only problem was that I had my gain settings wrong, so it was more distorted than I'd like. This was 100% user error, though, and there's no reason you couldn't get it to work with tweaking the settings on the unit and your camera. That way it'd still be embedded in your video clip. The onboard recording is still nice, though, as you'll have a backup if you for some reason have interference or make a mistake like I did.
It really depends on what you're looking for in a mic. I compared these directly to the Rode Mics in my first video on the channel, and the only reason I didn't recommend the M650s was because I was running a beta software and ran into issues. The charging case, ease of use with a smartphone, and ability to easily attach these make them a better mic if you're needing those features. In terms of sound quality, they were pretty close but I think the Rode Go was SLIGHTLY better. But when I use these mics, I always do a bit of post work (unless I'm creating a review video like this) and have gotten both to sound GREAT with very little work. TLDR: Very close!
Which fuzzy sound are you hearing? Usually when I have a "fuzzy sound," it's due to either a poor connection or too low of a gain. Take a look at your gain level and volume levels to see if maybe they're too low or too high.
Its on 0 gain. On your test run part of the video, there’s a “ssssssssss” sound aside from your voice, it disappears when you have low noise reduction but the quality of the video is wack
Oh that hiss - part of that is comparing the mic to my normal shotgun mic, the noise floor isn't as good on the M650. Normally when I use it I'll throw a tiny bit of noise reduction on in my edit and it gets rid of that slight hiss. Otherwise, it's normally covered up by my music bed. It's not ideal, but for the price range it's not terrible.
After the device was delivered yesterday, the enthusiasm is completely gone today. After the firmware update (recommended in the description), the device can no longer be started. And I urgently need it for a production tomorrow.
I'm sorry to hear that! The firmware update in the description was referring to the fact that I previously was running beta software while I reviewed it pre-release, but then AnkerWork updated it to the shipping firmware. I haven't run into an issue where it won't start, but I know that sometimes can happen if a firmware update didn't finish on a device. I'd contact AnkerWork to see if they can replace the units - I know that doesn't help your shoot, but whatever happened with yours isn't normal (at least from my experience.)
I have to say these don’t sound that good at all, sounds just like if your recording from the phone, the rode & Dji sound much better. No way I’d buy these, now it’s between the Dji & rode for me.
All three are great, it just depends what you're looking for in a mic. I think I prefer the sound of the DJI overall, but having used all 3 I'd gladly take any of them out on the road.
It really depends how you’re using them. If you’re comparing them to his boom mic set up in the studio obviously they aren’t quite as good. I personally own some m650’s and have used them in various scenarios and they have performed well throughout. I’ve used them in an echo filled office for deposition video recordings where they were just fine (still better than in camera or shotgun audio), and I’ve used them in noise isolated studios where they shone and sounded excellent. Outdoors they sound pretty good in my opinion and with a little EQ ing in post you can make these sound great. Just my 5 cents 👍🏼

Love your clean and concise reviews, subbed!
Glad you enjoyed it - I've got a few more coming up soon!

Thank you for the review. Clear and straight to the point!
Glad it was helpful!
Great work I loved the transmitter and to phone audio comparison. Excellent.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!!
I’ve been interested in how these perform. Thank you for the knowledge drop!
Of course - happy to share!
Yess i was hoping you'd review these *added to my watch later list*
Happy to deliver!
Great overview! Thanks!

I like the idea for plugging it into a computer for calls. It could make teams calls with multiple people in the room really easy!
Not a bad idea - you could pass around the mic as people speak, eliminating the need for one of those speakers in the middle of the room!

There are times when the audio drops for a second or two and comes back in, why do you think that is? Using a Iphone 13. Great video by the way.

Can you connect more than just the 2 mics?
I have a recorded voice on the receiver, I connected usb on mine iPad and it doesn’t detect the external disk
What can I do?
Do you have any solution for how to use this mic in capcut? My iPhone reads it as a set of headphones

Unfortunately this mic doesn't feet whit dji action camera.
The conector it's too short.. So doesn't work for me

Do you think the wireless go rode is better or are they very close?

@@SmartphoneStorytellers okay thank you i appreciate it!
How do you fix the fuzzy sound?

I cannot connect my two microphones by bluetooth to my computer nor my mobile phone :(
Very unreliable when the connection is lost between transmitter and receiver.

I didn’t like how they sounded either!
dude cool video, please reduce the background music, it's what made me click away....
Definitely something I've worked to balance better in newer videos. Thanks for the feedback - always looking to improve!
