  • Let’s face it: Americans love their coffee, which is the number one source of antioxidants in our diet - which actually makes me kind of sad!

Up until 1 week ago I was drinking about 4 servings of coffee a day . But I was experiencing many hot flashes ( i blamed it on menopause of course ) as well as too fast of a heartbeat, hyper-activity and even irregular heartbeat. Then i started connecting the dots and I reduced coffee to 2 small servings a day and , low and behold, after 2 days ALL my symptoms disappeared !! The difference in how feel is amazing ! And I will stick to it ! 😊😊😊

What a pleasant guy. Thanks, Dr. Hyman, for clearing up this issue for me. Was never a coffee addict myself - does nothing for me except it is an occasional pleasant drink to have. Will try butter in it sometime. I tended to like heavy cream and stevia in mine, but ... I'll try something new.

I notice the quality of coffee is the difference for me. I can drink processed coffee from the regular grocery store or starbucks. I have to buy organic artisan fresh coffee beans and then grind them and I enjoy French press the best
I used to think coffee was bad for me because I would get anxious and jittery and sleepy and withdrawal crashes. but I changed the quality and that worked for me!
no Starbucks or foldgers and low quality coffee for me

Your doing it right. I would suggest that you run your pressed coffee though a paper filter to remove cafestol, a dangerous diterpene that plays havoc with your cholesterol and digestion. The mesh filter in the French press is not effective. Simply indent a paper filter over your mug and pour the coffee through.

Apart from the games, I did do allot of searching for anything that can help but, every time I would ask about a Med. it was,”That wouldn’t help you. I drink bulletproof coffee every morning, with grassfed butter, pasture raised cream and mct oil, I try my best to drink only once a day, but occasionally I drink it twice a day. I have been steadily losing weight, and sleep well at night from 6 to 8 hours. I can never give up coffee, I've been drinking it since I was a child, if I have to, I will decrease the amount, but absolutely never give it up. I have changed my diet so drastically since I'm on this keto diet that coffee is my one and only guilty pleasure! I don't think coffee is bad for anyone, is the amount and how is made that will affect every person differently. The best is having it bulletproof and no sugar or very little and no more than one or twice a day, that's my opinion.

Love coffee. Used to drink it with 3 heaping teaspoons of sugar and some half and half. Without all that, I don't love coffee so much. But I quit using sugar and started using terrible tasting artificial sweeteners to try to achieve the same level of sweetness. Kept the half and half too. Then I read "Eat Fat, Get Thin." Never knew artificial sweeteners were bad for you. (Was he referring to sucralose or just to aspartame and saccharin? He didn't say.) Now, though, I drink coffee without any sweetener and with only half and half. It's okay that way. If I have to do without coffee, it doesn't bother me one bit. I can drink coffee in the evenings and sleep or I can do without it completely. So I'm not in a hurry to give coffee up or to find a substitute morning drink, but I have begun cutting way back on the carbs because my A1C suddenly was very close to the diabetic level. We'll see how it goes.

Coffee works actually quite terrible for me. I get chest pain with 15 minutes and starts having hearth palpitations sometimes when I suddenly increase my caffeine intake. I thought tea was a better alternative for years, but unfortunately that also turned out te be false. Right now after more than eight years of chest pain, due to caffeine, and possibly also some other food intolerances, I finally gonna speak with a dietician. Things went bad to worse last year, and I went on with mild suffering way too long. In the very near future, this week, and over the next weeks I'm gonna find out what food intolerances I have. I actually don't eat unhealthy. Most of my diet are various fruit and vegetables, some bread, oats, nuts, crisps, and low on sugar and meat.

I do not notice any effect from coffee. Maybe the supermarked coffee isn't real or I'm not brewing it right. Coffee without sugar is terribly bitter. No way. It is just 2-3 spoons of sugar. Coffee with milk is good but spoils in taste in a couple minutes. Long brewed coffee (like in filter drip machines, or container waiting for the particles to sink) is also worse compared to an espresso machine where it is prepared quick.

Coffee outside the body has a pH of 5 which is slightly more on the acidic side. I can see how neutralizing that with baking soda might work, in theory. In actuality, not sure of what the mixture does to the digestive system in terms of possibly increasing excess production of acids. That may be due to other properties of coffee, other than just its original acidic state.

Mhmm, sponsoring the bulletproof coffee fad? Listen captain, an 8 oz bottle of milk will last me about 12-20 cups of coffee. Now, the nutritional community seems pretty torn on whether or not milk is good for you, but you're going so far as to say that even the tiny amount I'd put in my coffee in the morning is SO bad that I should cut it out entirely and replace it with BUTTER? Should I sweeten my tea with syrup too?

It's not what he said he just said he was sensitive to dairy and that if you were to not use dairy as well but if you weren't that was fine. What do you work for the dairy industry or something?

All that talking, but when you have no job or a job(s) that does not fit to pay your bills, you get stress. So nice talking from a doc with a high income but we simple mortals don't have the luxuory to do all that stuff he is campaigning for.
