My son, whose work consists of hard physical labour outside, was a vegetarian and sometime vegan for over four years, along with his wife. He was so disgusted at how meat eaters were denigrated by none meat eaters (he's not one for being told what to do) that he went back to eating meat. He was amazed at how much better he felt and how much less tired. We are lucky in having a butcher that only sells grass eating animals and all his meat is reared within a 14 mile radius.

If you are hunting and processing your own meat, well that's a different thing. Plus most research shows that the primary diets of our ancestors was seeds and plants.

Yep. A wide variety of foods, not too much of any particular food, is best. Once you start keying in on just one single food, eggs, meat, broccoli, spinach, kale, grains, candy, soda, and dominate your diet with that one, then overall health suffers. Eat a little bit of as many different foods as you can with a focus on fiber and protein.

I just got my Function Health 100 tests scheduled today for a few weeks from now and also the Heavy Metals and Essential Minerals add-on test. I do eat grass fed beef. And butter and milk from grass fed cows and organic eggs from pasture raised chickens and organic chicken breasts that are air chilled, all that kind of good stuff. It seems to me that what you are advocating is a problem when it comes to scale.
The requirement for a pasture raised chicken is that she gets 108 square feet for herself. You can have chickens crammed into a barn that are getting two square feet each. That's 54 chickens using the same square footage as that one pasture raised chicken. You turn those 54 chickens into pasture raised and you need 5,832 square feet. Factory farming has tens of thousands of chickens in a single barn. Where is the space coming from to raise these chickens in a humane and healthy way? This isn't a scale problem just for chickens. It's going to be a scale up problem for all kinds of meat. Where is the land going to come from?

Is that enough land for all the beef and all the chicken we eat? Perhaps not, but it could be a big step in the right direction. Understand that the country can't, and needn't, go from nearly all factory farmed to nearly all regenerative in one year. Watch some videos of how Joel Salatin raises beef and chickens (just enter Joel Salatin in the RUclips search bar).

What’s mind boggling is how so many different doctors, nutritionist, gurus, and scientists give different takes on health and diet, this person says this, this person says that, there is no consensus that everyone agrees on. Thing with meat I’ve heard it causes acidity in the body and red meat specifically is bad for the colon. Meat can have parasites and causes disease. Also heard meat has the nutrients and best protein needed for the body. Ive heard you’re not supposed to consume fruit and veggies together cause of the different enzymes and that causes improper digestion. Now I think that for the mass majority of the human population there is a general rule of thumb that people need to function. Then there are different groups of people not necessarily by race but by genetic makeup that are supposed to eat a certain diet like no meat and just plants. Then there are groups of people that are to consume meat and other groups like dairy. I think everyone needs some fruits and veggies. I think certain groups aren’t to eat certain seeds and nuts. Then you have to factor in health conditions that prevent people from eating certain foods or even groups. So the challenge is finding what your body is supposed to intake to be optimal. Heard of the blood type diet and then there is the challenge with supplements to know what to take, when to take it, what you can and shouldn’t combine. It’s a super complex puzzle that is constantly ongoing. Some people are fortunate to have discovered what they need and also the people who have the funds and resources to help them. Then also the body can change over time and there has to be adjustments to routines. It seems like we know some things and we really don’t know conclusively how to go about health. Studies vary and like I said with all of this different information it’s just a huge challenge to partake in to figure out what’s best for an individual. I’m trying to gain weight while eating healthy and trying to figure out how to do that while proper detox and fasting. You probably should start with getting test ran on yourself to find levels, food sensitivities, ailments and to work through that and/or work around the possible ailments.

I think this is one of the best explanations on meat and based on actual science. I think the frustration is health professionals just seem to take the easy way and say avoid things rather than get into these details. There are so many connected issues and in a rush we just hear blanket statements. People eat to excess so we hear cut it out but really it's eat properly. Its sad because the world is so busy anymore those that really want to be healthy but don't have the time to do in depth research try to rely on the health community most of which are also overworked so we are left with incomplete recommendations.

Dear Mark Hyman, I really like your videos and this one as well. However, I get very confused about meat consumption. Some fairly healthy and active people on a great meat diet still have heart attacks and strokes. The shocking story about Norway that was taken all their meat supplies away by Nazis during several years of WW2. The cardiovascular disease went almost to zero then. After the war Norwegians restarted eating their meat and their cardiovascular rate of disease went on a sharp vertical line within shortest period of time. ‘Forks over Knives’ video from National Archives shows a lot of examples when only after meat consumption stopped, the life was saved. Maybe you can talk and compare info in your next video. I would be eternally appreciative! Thank you!!!!

We have to eat something. Whatever it is will require water and transportation. Cows eat corn and soy byproducts, not corn and soy. They eat grass most of their lives. They don't require farmland. Grazing animals would have been there whether we ate them or not. And we need them whether we eat them or not. They sequester more carbon than they produce. Cows and sheep can tern parched desert green with grass, trees, and gurgling brooks. Anyone anywhere can produce meat locally with almost no transportation cost, unlike mangoes, oranges, and pineapples. Almond milk takes water that could be used to water lawns and make electricity. These numbers you are quoting are absolutely absurd. They are obvious lies. You don't need a degree in mathematics. 17:00
PS, cows mainly use only the waste byproducts. Biodiesel is produced from vegetable oils. Soybean oil is the most dominant biodiesel fuel feedstock. Ethanol manufacturers use about 40 percent of the U.S. corn crop. Most ethanol in the United States is produced from starch-based crops by dry-or wet-mill processing. Nearly 90% of ethanol plants are dry mills due to lower capital costs. Dry milling is a process that grinds corn into flour and ferments it into ethanol with coproducts of distillers' grains and carbon dioxide.
