Probiotics do work - and quite effectively. Especially when they are consumed in the form of foods containing them naturally - like fermented vegetables. I started experiencing symptoms of mild Crohn's (most likely Crohn's), and within a day of eating sauerkraut, I noticed the systems lessening. Almost a month later, and most of my symptoms are gone...although, I also immediately stopped eating dairy and gluten... I also noticed significant reductions in inflammation in other parts of my body - like my eyes (which were often inflamed - red blood vessels in the white's of my eyes for no apparent reason). My chronic back aches and pains (probably from AS) was also significantly reduced. I am not out of the woods yet, but I am well on my way...

I should say Probiotics have been there for thousands of years there in Asia and ME region. The apparent health and promotional effects of Yogurt and fermented milk would be the long healthy life of those seniors that take these magic super foods on a regular basis. I quit drinking almost 12 months ago and started taking Align probiotics today. Years of alcohol abuse i believe has screwed up my gut. I always feel extremely fatigued, extreme constipation, and just other small things. I didn't notice any change when I took probiotics. However, I noticed changes when I started eating fermented foods and drinking fermented drinks. I drink Kefir water daily. What I noticed particularly with it was when I would go out for a big meal, I'd come home feeling stuffed. But, after drinking some kefir water after about 20--30 mins, I'd notice that stuffed feeling was gone. I don't go to bed feeling stuffed anymore. I decided to try fermented foods. Saur kraut is great and an easy one to start with. What I've noticed is on the weeks when I'm still waiting on the foods to finish fermenting and I'm out of any that are ready to eat, on these weeks, I don't feel as good as normally do. I simply notice a change.

Space Tree Water In my case i just make sure to take it everyday. Theres no specific time just make sure you dont miss a day. After taking it for a while if you miss a day or two it shouldn’t affect you but if you miss more than a few days youll start to notice the difference on how your stomach feels after you eat and itll affect your bowel movements. I'm on a wholefood organic zero packaging (everything made from scratch) pegan diet in the UK (Scotland, where sun exposure ican be limited unless you look for it). Following a stressful season a few years ago, I made different health choice mistakes (now identified and back on track) and started developping odd symptoms. Diagnosed last winter with M.S. after an acute flare-up. I don't know if it's M.S. or the disease modifying treatment (course of steroids initially, and ocrelus since) but the gut has been misbehaving, mildly. Could be the tube of steroids I get with every course of treatment! Perhaps. I'm currently working on the probiotic intake. Got a collection of jars bubbling away in the cupboard. Now need to integrate them into my life and observe the results.

Calling bacteria good or bad is simplistic and potentially dangerous. The benefits of lactobacillus have been heavily overstated and promoted by the food industry. OTC probiotics may worsen or lead to bacteria overgrowth in the small intestine and can potentiality make some mental illnesses worse. Eliminating overgrowth and nurturing one's normal colon flora with a healthy diet (fiber) is a more optimal strategy than wasting money on pills or foods that can make your IBS worse.
I agree, probiotics are over-promoted. I've tried them many times and taken them faithfully for stretches, and they do basically nothing to improve Ibs.

When I was 18 I finally stopped taking antibiotics and taking the flu shot, both which kept me sick during the year. I finally let my body do its job. I did all of this after finding out I was born unhealthy: ear/sinus infections, born c-section. It's worked. I am taking probiotics and it's helped my gut. Now my job is making the flu vaccine mandatory. Give me a break.
Probiotics aren't for everyone. For some people it makes things worse. I have heard soil based are the best but who really knows. I tend to lean towards get probiotics the way nature intended, through food instead of through pills.

If you have a bad gut and a terrible gut, I suggest you do fasting do fasting to heal your gut and then start taking probiotics like sauerkraut and kimchi. That’s what I’m doing. My stomach seems to be doing a lot better after fasting.
I just drink Kombucha from Costco. $20 bucks and it works very well. I lost lower belly weight if I stay on it consistently. Also good bowl movement in the morning. Works better then all capsules form.

If you have CIBO, take the bacteria strain Saccharomyces boulardii. I don't know if i have CIBO so I'm first going to start taking S. Boulardii before I even start taking other probiotics.

Rosie P If you like making your own food then look into making your own fermented foods. Anything can be fermented: veggies, nut cheeses, desserts, lemonade, vegan butter, mayo, salad dressing. Just google fermenting food and you will find many recipes. I started recently and have not have this much fun in a long time! Not everything is a success but I am learning and it is so exciting!!! I’ve had a major problem with my gut now for about 6 years. Started with getting sick more often, then alopecia, then major bloating and acid reflux. I had to drastically change my diet and decided to take a high grade probiotic supplement. I did that a few times over the past couple of years, mostly after a dose of antibiotics. Anyway, mixed results. I definitely get sick less and feel much better but sometimes the same symptoms come and go. The probiotics seem to work though. However, i just finished a two month dose of probiotics about a month ago. I’ve had diarrhea and stomach bloating ever since. It could have been my diet that messed things up. I wasn’t nearly as strict as i should probably have been. I’m considering taking the probiotics again but I’m concerned there’s a negative effect on the body after going off them. Could this be true? I just read an article on the BBC that talked about probiotics and how they were found to hinder the gut healing process significantly. It was a 2019 article.

I didn't notice any change when I took probiotics. However, I noticed changes when I started eating fermented foods and drinking fermented drinks. I drink Kefir water daily. What I noticed particularly with it was when I would go out for a big meal, I'd come home feeling stuffed. But, after drinking some kefir water after about 20--30 mins, I'd notice that stuffed feeling was gone. I don't go to bed feeling stuffed anymore. I decided to try fermented foods. Saur kraut is great and an easy one to start with. What I've noticed is on the weeks when I'm still waiting on the foods to finish fermenting and I'm out of any that are ready to eat, on these weeks, I don't feel as good as normally do. I simply notice a change.
I never got access to pill form in South Asia. Was lucky I got to travel to Germany bought good quality ones. Thus in 1months time my 6yrs log standing severe IBS got tollay cured. TOTALLY.
I shall make my own! I've been making yogurt for the last 5 or 6 months or so. Next will be fermented veggies, and whatever else is good.

I started making my own kefir with real kefir grains. It stopped the gassiness.
I can vouch for the fiber, Fiber has almost entirely got rid of my Heartburn, it took like 6 months.
I started suffering from terrible diarrhea i wanna say 2 yrs ago. Spicy food seemed to do it for me. Other times even if i didnt eat spicy food it still happened. I couldnt go out anywhere. I felt stuck because of my stomach issues. Took me a while before i realized it could be IBS. I didnt go to a doctor because all they want to do is put me in more meds. So i researched and found out about probiotics. I ended up trying Renew Life Ultimate Flora Probiotic Extra Care 50 billion. I think I started on a lower dose and eventually went up and found the 50 billion was the one that worked for me. Let me tell you it stoped my troubles dead in its tracks! I take 2 a day. I stay away from spicy foods for the most part but since im Mexican its pretty much all we eat but i do manage lol the times i do eat spicy food im not fainting in the bathroom due to how bad my diarrhea is. I highly recommend probiotics for me it has helped tremendously.

In my case i just make sure to take it everyday. Theres no specific time just make sure you dont miss a day. After taking it for a while if you miss a day or two it shouldn’t affect you but if you miss more than a few days youll start to notice the difference on how your stomach feels after you eat and itll affect your bowel movements. Recent studies have shown that probiotic bacteria only stay in the gut for a few hours and do not set up permenant residence so I question their usefulness

My functional medicine dr advises to eat a tablespoon of sauerkraut each day. Her understanding is it contains more cfu of probiotics than the commercial pills and cost is very low.

I'm on a wholefood organic zero packaging (everything made from scratch) pegan diet in the UK (Scotland, where sun exposure ican be limited unless you look for it). Following a stressful season a few years ago, I made different health choice mistakes (now identified and back on track) and started developping odd symptoms. Diagnosed last winter with M.S. after an acute flare-up. I don't know if it's M.S. or the disease modifying treatment (course of steroids initially, and ocrelus since) but the gut has been misbehaving, mildly. Could be the tube of steroids I get with every course of treatment! Perhaps. I'm currently working on the probiotic intake. Got a collection of jars bubbling away in the cupboard. Now need to integrate them into my life and observe the results.
I love my probiotics. Make a huge change in my life.

If you liked this video, you may also be interested to know that there are advantages and disadvantages to taking soil-based probiotics. For example, soil-based probiotics are more spore-forming. The spore creates a protective barrier so that the microorganisms are more likely to travel through the stomach without being destroyed by stomach acid. So they are more likely to attach in the gut, and be effective. On the other hand, this can be a negative if the microorganism causes an infection, because it is then more resistant to an antibiotic that may be needed to treat the infection!

If we are sick; hospitals, doctors, pharmacuiticle companies continue to make money. Probiotics, Doterra which is double capsulated has helped me tremendously. I have been dealing with gastric issues so bad. Meat is a good source of B12. And Nutritional Yeast. Some in kombucha. But hard to meet needs without eating meat.
Calling bacteria good or bad is simplistic and potentially dangerous. The benefits of lactobacillus have been heavily overstated and promoted by the food industry. OTC probiotics may worsen or lead to bacteria overgrowth in the small intestine and can potentiality make some mental illnesses worse. Eliminating overgrowth and nurturing one's normal colon flora with a healthy diet (fiber) is a more optimal strategy than wasting money on pills or foods that can make your IBS worse.

I agree, probiotics are over-promoted. I've tried them many times and taken them faithfully for stretches, and they do basically nothing to improve Ibs.

I too change my diet to more clean organic raw eating of which helped thanks to Danette May healthy eating meals and ideas. After the video on SYMBIOTIC 365, I feel I should give it a chance since lately I have been experiencing bloating and burping constantly even at night. Its concerning to me.
When I was 18 I finally stopped taking antibiotics and taking the flu shot, both which kept me sick during the year. I finally let my body do its job. I did all of this after finding out I was born unhealthy: ear/sinus infections, born c-section. It's worked. I am taking probiotics and it's helped my gut. Now my job is making the flu vaccine mandatory. Give me a break.

Probiotics aren't for everyone. For some people it makes things worse. I have heard soil based are the best but who really knows. I tend to lean towards get probiotics the way nature intended, through food instead of through pills.

If you have a bad gut and a terrible gut, I suggest you do fasting do fasting to heal your gut and then start taking probiotics like sauerkraut and kimchi. That’s what I’m doing. My stomach seems to be doing a lot better after fasting.
I just drink Kombucha from Costco. $20 bucks and it works very well. I lost lower belly weight if I stay on it consistently. Also good bowl movement in the morning. Works better then all capsules form.
They say that is not really good for you when you drink that much. Look up a video on it.

If you like making your own food then look into making your own fermented foods. Anything can be fermented: veggies, nut cheeses, desserts, lemonade, vegan butter, mayo, salad dressing. Just google fermenting food and you will find many recipes. I started recently and have not have this much fun in a long time! Not everything is a success but I am learning and it is so exciting!!! Good luck! And I feel better eating the fermented foods.

I’ve had a major problem with my gut now for about 6 years. Started with getting sick more often, then alopecia, then major bloating and acid reflux. I had to drastically change my diet and decided to take a high grade probiotic supplement. I did that a few times over the past couple of years, mostly after a dose of antibiotics. Anyway, mixed results. I definitely get sick less and feel much better but sometimes the same symptoms come and go. The probiotics seem to work though. However, i just finished a two month dose of probiotics about a month ago. I’ve had diarrhea and stomach bloating ever since. It could have been my diet that messed things up. I wasn’t nearly as strict as i should probably have been. I’m considering taking the probiotics again but I’m concerned there’s a negative effect on the body after going off them. Could this be true? I just read an article on the BBC that talked about probiotics and how they were found to hinder the gut healing process significantly. It was a 2019 article.
