100% agree. You shouldn't eat when you're not hungry. Seems like what you eat is more important. Question about Tofu? It’s made from soy, so, is soy a healthy product to consume? Soybean oil is not good to consume, yet it’s included in so many processed foods , chips, breads that are sold at the grocery stores.
I normally had been skipping breakfast and eating at lunch time. However, lately I have been waking up STARVING like I have never felt before. I honestly feel like I should eat breakfast again and just have a broth or light soup for dinner. I feel like for some reason at this piint skipping breakfast being this unusually hungry currently will cause my metabolism to slow down. Beforehand I didn't feel this was an issue but before I didn't wake up feeling ridiculously hungry either. Something has changed for this moment, so I will go with the change for now and see what happens. The fact that your video on this topic keeps being suggested to me seems like a universal nudge.
Listen to your body. It may change from day to day, week to week, season to season, year to year. Pause and sense what it's telling you, through hunger cues, cravings, how you feel, both physically and mentally, after eating certain foods or omitting others, and symptoms, improvements, or other changes that may occur. Try to take some time to do this throughout the day, every day, and heed the signs your body gives you, and eventually you should find that you feel better because you're doing what nature intended, rather than what current social norms around food dictate. We're all unique and what works for one person won't necessarily work for another.
That is indeed true. I live in a very rural area with farmers, many old, active, and healthy. No one breaks fast until around noon. Sometimes a bit earlier, sometimes a bit later. No one eats after 4-6pm depending. My grandparents and great grandparents never ate breakfast, and neither do I. They're all long lived. My husband's family also does not eat breakfast (they are farmers from a different part of the world), and the are a bunch of incredibly long-lived individuals. If I were to eat an early breakfast I would feel like garbage. Especially since I'm not hungry then. I'll stick with what my ancestors did, and what makes me feel great!
And for me the skipping of breakfast has been an absolute breakthrough! I used to eat too many calories by starting early and also didn't exercise as much. I thought I had to eat right when I got up! Now I have black coffee and am not hungry until around 10 or 11 am, and I've shed 15 pounds while still eating a healthy amount of food. I also tend to enjoy the morning more by not focusing as much on food right away, and my blood levels all improved markedly, with triglycerides going from 150 to 80, blood sugar from 98 to 88, A1C going from 5.8 to 5.2, ApoB going down to an even better level. And we eat by 5:30 so am doing an eight--hour eating window!
I wait til i’m hungry and have green smoothies when I’m hungry. Lately the green smoothies are “out of season” so it’s homemade protein shakes. Dr Hyman and vitamix are saving my life.
For vegans- I have 1cup of oil free soy mylk, 1 and a half cups of frozen berries or other fruits (mango, pink dragonfruit, strawberries, blueberries, cherries, raspberries etc) 25 gms of unsweetened pea protein and 1 or 2 bananas depending on size. I sometimes add hemp hearts too. Tastes so good and keeps me full for 5 hours. :))
Never combine fruit with other foods for multiple reasons, which I skip here. I eat fruit first thing and wait 90 minutes before adding other things such as eggs.
I wish I could find organic soy milk. I’ve learned soy is one of the crops most heavily sprayed with herbicides and pesticides. Organic soy avoids that.
Right. I usually have a modest brunch around 12pm, like eggs, brown bread, legumes and a bit of meat. Seems like it works, too, having walked before and lifted weights if possible. Sometimes I have plenty of chow around midday, with smaller meals like soups and sammiches around 5pm. One can trust the body once the metabolism is sorted out: hungry? Enjoy some whole foods... I don't really crave. 16-18/8-6 seems to work for me.
Dr Mark, please tell me if what I am doing is a good idea. Upon waking around 6:30 am I make a capuccino in my blender, with coconut oil, butter, collagen powder, and coffee. Then I take that to my garden, and work in my garden until around 12 pm. Then I come home and rest, and have breakfast when I feel like it, around 1 pm. Please tell me -- is my capuccino actually my breakfast? And is it a good one?
What I don’t understand for people who eat twice and particularly once a day - how do you get 100% of all your nutrients, vitamins/minerals etc in one meal? Or do these levels build for days and stay in your system for a while before leaving? Thanks

Can you contrast what you recommend with the book "Mastering Diabetes" ? I have autoimmune thyroid issues and tried what you reccomend and my fasting blood sugar would never drop below 112. I tried the diet from "Mastering Diabetes" and my FBS are now in the 80s. But I am concerned about not having enough protein or fats....can you give me your thoughts?
Whatever time you eat your first meal, I guess that's breakfast. I'm not hungry until 1 PM (or later) so I eat when I'm hungry. Bigger meal then, very light evening meal, no nighttime snacks. It's working.
Is it advisable to closely listen to your body when to eat? Suppose I am not hungry until say the early or mid afternoon after eating my last meal at 9 pm and went to sleep at around 11 pm the night before. Should i listen carefully to what my body is telling me or should I over ride my body’s language and eat my first meal anyway no later than the late morning?
I am not sure about it. I had been consuming mostly protein and fat for almost 2 years, but my blood sugar and weight did not improve. Of course, I do not eat highly processed foods or drink sugary drinks. Only when I started fasting, eating twice a day (at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m.), and skipping snacks, did I start to see changes.
I have become a fan of cooked buckwheat for breakfast with almonds and butter, plus a splash of milk. Plus an egg or two and maybe some plain yogurt. The buckwheat is great stuff, tastes good too.
Skipping breakfast is part of implementing intermittent fasting most days since I'm now in perimenopause. It helped me regain control of weight gain, but when I do, it is usually eggs, always a protein with tea. Protein is important for retaining muscle in this part of life for women. Before perimenopause I always ate breakfast.
I’m the opposite, at 46 and after years of fasting til lunchtime/early afternoon I’m not able to shift some stubborn fat I gained after stopping the pill. I realised it’s possibly because of cortisol (it affects insulin) so I started eating earlier in the evening and trying to eat earlier the next day, so I can keep a long fast - if I need to, and apparently I shouldn’t be fasting so long every day according to Mindy Pelz Fast like a Girl. it’s not easy, I’m just not hungry, but hearing this message again and from another source just reinforced that I’m on the right track. I’m also going to do the month fasting reset from Mindy Pelz.
I think it depends on your individual circadian rhythm. I am a night person. I eat my fairly high calorie "breakfast" around 2pm, dinner around 9, and that's it. Go to sleep around 2am. My fasting time is usually around 16 to 17 hours. I lean toward keto. I feel much better since I stopped eating in the morning.
Good on you to note tangential considerations, such as *what* one eats. For me, the best regimen is *no* regimen. To *usually* have a high protein first meal with sufficient fat, and some longer fasting days - generally at the end of recovery periods prior to exercise periods. True *intermittent* fasting.
100% agree with this although I eat dairy, raw Jersey milk, but that's me. If I don't eat like this my whole day is affected, including my sleep. That is the biggest motivator of all! LOVE sleep.

What are your thoughts on sourdough bread with your high protein breakfast? I like to do duck eggs (our own, pastured), sausage, sourdough toast with butter and a glass of raw milk around 11 or 12... Feels good to me, but curious about your thoughts on the sourdough? Not sure it has much fiber or not, opinions seem to vary.
the best time to eat breakfast to make the most out of what you eat according to chrononutrition is 1 hour 23 minutes after seeing the sunrise because of something related to your microbiome and the time it takes for it to "wake up". I don't remember the exact details now but you can look it up yourself, you are welcome :D
This is quite true for me. I eat two meals a day, breakfast around 10 AM (eggs, sausage, bacon, cheese) and dinner around 3 or so PM. If I eat any later in the day I get too hot during the night and don’t sleep well. My breakfast is by far my biggest meal.
Thank you so much. I couldn’t do longer intermittent fasting hours. Maximum I could do is 13-14 hours. If I waited longer I would not feel good and I ate more at lunchtime and gained weight. I had to change that. I feel so much better now that I have started eating breakfast.
I just ate a large waffle (oat flour, egg, salt, oat milk) with maple syrup. Slapping my forehead now. Tomorrow, I now know what I really should eat for breakfast and lose weight! Thank you!!!
Our bodies circadian rhythm is based partly around what time we eat. Cortisol for example rises highest in the morning and doesn't stop until you eat your first meal. If you don't want until dinner, cortisol levels will be elevated that entire time.
I don’t eat breakfast. I tried eating breakfast because of this type of thinking and I felt like shit all day. We need to skip 1 meal and I think depending who you are which meal to skip. I gained weight. Felt overly sluggish with breakfast.
Totally agree with the types of food you're suggesting but I'm really confused, everywhere I look someone is promoting fasting till lunch, I've just gone over the line with Diabetes 2 and would like to get this sorted asap, can you or anyone say which is better to do, because I'm at a loss.
So what types of protein should you eat in the morning? Eggs, cheese, steaks, nuts? I normally eat porridge with goats milk, then toast with marmalade.

Breakfast in the morning is a MYTH! For the past 20 yrs, all I have for breakfast is coffee and I wont' have my first meal of the day at least till noon. I feel light, energized and athletic.
I “break my fast” around Noon, after evening meal by 7pm. Eating 6-8h window is enough for me. Whilst shifting to eating breakfast and lunch, skipping dinner may be better for circadian, socially it doesn’t work for me
so......... I've been doing this ALL wrong? I eat 1/2c oatmeal, flaxseed, chia seeds, hemp seeds and berries every morning. I FEEL amazing!!! I eat whole food planted based and I don't want to eat eggs. What do you suggest a vegan eat for breakfast???
I am a weight lifter with a fast metabolism and really enjoy working out and building muscle, but it requires a lot of fuel. I can't help but imagine many years of eating 6 meals a day would equal more wear and tear on your digestive system, or is it not that bad if, perhaps, some fasting times were inserted?
Totally agree! Shifting my breakfast time from 8 am to 10 am and eating my dinner earlier at 5:30 PM has been a game changer for me! Thanks!

I delayed it until 11am and was able to stop taking blood pressure medicine. If I have a boiled egg before bed then I won't be hungry in the morning. I lost 1 kg for each month for 9 months then stopped. I guess my body figured out what was going on. lol.
Question about Tofu? It’s made from soy, so, is soy a healthy product to consume? Soybean oil is not good to consume, yet it’s included in so many processed foods , chips, breads that are sold at the grocery stores.
Yes soy is not healthy.
Came for the info, stayed for Mark’s great vibe 👍🏻😊
In your Longevity book you suggest delaying breakfast to 10am…. Please clarify. Isn’t it also true that fasted exercise encourages autophagy?
This video helped me a lot. Thank you, doc!
You’ve just inspired me with breakfast ideas. Thank you. You’re right. It does set you up for success
Thank You for THE TRUTH ❤❤❤
Organic soy avoids that.
pea protein is to be avoided.
@@hanapapercuts can you tell me why please?
Skip highly processed pea protein. Tofu better.
I have avoided break fast for last three years and I really doing good. I just eat when I am hungry
🎉 This was fantastic!!! Thanks so much, Dr. Hyman!!!🎉
What I don’t understand for people who eat twice and particularly once a day - how do you get 100% of all your nutrients, vitamins/minerals etc in one meal? Or do these levels build for days and stay in your system for a while before leaving? Thanks
I agree 100 percent
This morning I had bean soup for breakfast which I love homemade great northern bean soup puréed
Great day! Didn’t over eat
Didn’t want to
❤that’s a miracle!!!
That’s good to hear 👍

Should i listen carefully to what my body is telling me or should I over ride my body’s language and eat my first meal anyway no later than the late morning?
define what does it mean "skipping break first". If I do two meal a day, which I am skipping ? dinner, lunch or breakfast?
Thank yu Mark great tips fr breakfast love all yur videos 👍🙏
I am not sure about it. I had been consuming mostly protein and fat for almost 2 years, but my blood sugar and weight did not improve. Of course, I do not eat highly processed foods or drink sugary drinks. Only when I started fasting, eating twice a day (at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m.), and skipping snacks, did I start to see changes.
This was awesome 🥳🙏thank u
LOVE sleep.
I include raw milk too, my own experience proves to me this is a health food and I cannot be convinced otherwise 😊
You’re such a beautiful soul. Thank you 😀😘
Started eating tin of sardines on whole grain toast to heal broken wrist. healthy, quick and easy
Excellent video, all the info I needed to start my day. Thanks!
What are some hi protien breakfasts???
I enjoy reading your books
I’m on my 9 day of detoxing my body. I’m on my 9 day and I feel great sugars reading lower, weight loss 10 pounds. Michael G
Wonderful intelligent advice.
How about rice and beans for breakfast. A complete protein and blue zone favorite!!
Go for it !!!
Ha! Ha! Ha!
Be sure to drink a Coke with it
What are your thoughts on sourdough bread with your high protein breakfast? I like to do duck eggs (our own, pastured), sausage, sourdough toast with butter and a glass of raw milk around 11 or 12... Feels good to me, but curious about your thoughts on the sourdough? Not sure it has much fiber or not, opinions seem to vary.
Add Fibre to your sourdough. Add other ingredients to male it more nutritious.
Great idea, thanks!
the best time to eat breakfast to make the most out of what you eat according to chrononutrition is 1 hour 23 minutes after seeing the sunrise because of something related to your microbiome and the time it takes for it to "wake up".
Thank you! Healthy (protein rich) break-fast - and great ideas for the protein.
Love ur bfast doc... Its mouth watering.. 😊
Thank you so much. I couldn’t do longer intermittent fasting hours. Maximum I could do is 13-14 hours. If I waited longer I would not feel good and I ate more at lunchtime and gained weight. I had to change that. I feel so much better now that I have started eating breakfast.
It's a lot harder for women to fast, from my understanding. It affects our hormone balance more so than men.
I just ate a large waffle (oat flour, egg, salt, oat milk) with maple syrup. Slapping my forehead now. Tomorrow, I now know what I really should eat for breakfast and lose weight! Thank you!!!
I actually can't believe this guy's saying these things. I've been doing one meal a day for 10 years and i feel better than when I was a kid.
Our bodies circadian rhythm is based partly around what time we eat. Cortisol for example rises highest in the morning and doesn't stop until you eat your first meal. If you don't want until dinner, cortisol levels will be elevated that entire time.
How much protein you eat at this one meal?
He's a very respected, knowledgeable doctor. I think I'll listen to him.
I totally agree with you. Skipping breakfast and having one to two meals a day, fasting for 18 hours or more was a life changer to me.
@@smokey11a1 it was good for me initially, then stopped working, and now it exacerbates my health issues big time.
I don’t eat breakfast. I tried eating breakfast because of this type of thinking and I felt like shit all day. We need to skip 1 meal and I think depending who you are which meal to skip. I gained weight. Felt overly sluggish with breakfast.
Thank you
Totally agree with the types of food you're suggesting but I'm really confused, everywhere I look someone is promoting fasting till lunch, I've just gone over the line with Diabetes 2 and would like to get this sorted asap, can you or anyone say which is better to do, because I'm at a loss.
Very nice Video, well and detailed explained. Dr Hyman, Thank you for your breakfast ideas!Musical Greetings!
👍
So what types of protein should you eat in the morning? Eggs, cheese, steaks, nuts? I normally eat porridge with goats milk, then toast with marmalade.
Breakfast is the POWERFULL meal of the day! Savory food, Quality protein intake with veggies salad & some natural carbs
Hello i have MS for about 7 years now I live in France 🇫🇷 I get my treatment there for now I am fine I still have the ability to walk 1 Km I have the fatigue but I can say I am fine.
So here is my question : I just began the diet and I heard about the manuka honey, but I don’t know if I can eat it or not ?.
Hope you are doing fine thank you
Thank you for sharing this info! Can you share what goat whey you use for your protein shakes? @mark hyman, md
this is super helpful as breakfast is always a struggle for me and sometimes i don't feel like a smoothee (and i don't eat eggs).
Was doing keto for 6 months, first meal at 12pm.....now im just going back to what he is saying: healthy protein breakfast, lunch, dinner.❤
You can have a breakfast with protein on a keto diet ! And eat organic vegetables, have an healthy keto diet that is what I am doing in France, keto doesn’t mean fat everywhere, grilled toxic, bacon , meat all the time
@@nathaliedelplanque7400 exactly mate
I am keto and haven’t had 1 pce of processed meat in 4 years
The first 3 minutes of the video acknowledges intermittent fasting and not discount it in any way. 12-14 hours after dinner as an example.
I think the point you are trying to get across is eat break fast! It can be later or earlier. But it is the first meal of the day...
Breakfast in the morning is a MYTH!
For the past 20 yrs, all I have for breakfast is coffee and I wont' have my first meal of the day at least till noon.
I feel light, energized and athletic.
Thank you 👍👍👍
Since you mentioned it, what does your "meditation " look like?
thanks this was very helpful
What foods should we eat
Are there any studies that looked at oatmeal breakfast? It doesn't spike insulin the way sugary cereals do.
I “break my fast” around Noon, after evening meal by 7pm. Eating 6-8h window is enough for me.
Whilst shifting to eating breakfast and lunch, skipping dinner may be better for circadian, socially it doesn’t work for me
Great recipes, thanks!
PLEASE. Stop using 2 angled camera shots during exposition. Getting dizzy :(
It's not the camera it's you

I just listen, don't watch. True of many videos - lots of visual distractions.
i only now eat a 2MAD. Starting at 11 or 11:30am and ending at 6:30. In the evenings I have some tea
I looked for a link in the description box to the studies Dr. Hyman cited, I did not find them.
