Some will tell you that Bach's music did not sound like that in Bach's time. Maybe it's true, but who cares? This is how I heard it for the first time, this is how I find it the most satisfying, and this is what matters! And to hell with "authenticity "!
Ditto, sir! I've heard 40 mediocre versions of "how exactly Handel wanted" Messiah and I'm totally fed up with the "historically informed" performers. HIP these days is a very solid asylum for the mediocre players who still want to gain some money, relying on the political correctness. Legends like Richter, Gould, Szeryng, Casals are so dearly missed today...
@@jeanparke9373 I cant bear Gardiner and his bouncy-bouncy dance tempi for everything with an excessive downbeat every measure. Herreweghe is a bit better, but still goes for the bouncy style and thin forces.
@@afritimm Gardiner who? Oh, that loser who punched his colleague singer in the face on stage? I NEVER listen to his recording. "Bouncy" is too gentle a word. I'd say "sickening"

No one directs Bach like Karl Richter. Unsurpassed, unequalled after 50 years.
Richter is a master of Bach rhythm. Thank you for sharing

Öffne dich has perfect tempo. I love the sensual violincello ❤️, may this masterpiece sing for us forever!

I know right?

Correct. And we dont still have boys pumping the wind box of the organ either!

Now come, the savior of the heathen,
recognized the virgin's child,
The whole world wonders
God ordered such birth to him. The Savior has come
Has our poor flesh and blood
In itself
And accept us as blood relatives.

What have you not done to us?
what don't you do to yours every day?
You come and leave your light
Shine with full blessings.
Come, Jesus, come to your church And give a happy new year!
promote the honor of your name,
Get the sound teaching
And bless pulpit and altar!
behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and sup with him, and he with me.
open up, my whole heart,
Jesus comes and moves in.
Am I just dust and earth
Doesn't he want to despise me?
to see his pleasure in me
That I will be his home.
O how happy I shall be!
Amen, amen!
Come, you beautiful crown of joy, don't stay long!
I was waiting for you with longing.

I find most modern performances far too fast and bouncy with threadbare resources. Richter is a perfect
combination of Baroque clarity with weight.
