Bach - Easter Oratorio: Kommt, eilet und laufet BWV 249 - Van Veldhoven | Netherlands Bach Society

- The Netherlands Bach Society performs 'Kommt, eilet und laufet' for All of Bach. This Oster-Oratorium (Easter oratorio) was first performed on Easter Sunday in 1725. Two days earlier, the congregation in Leipzig had listened to the St John Passion, just as in 1724. The closing chorus ‘Ruht wohl, ihr heiligen Gebeine’ sent them on their way home to celebrate Holy Saturday. And then, on Sunday morning, the church resounded with the huge contrast of a Sinfonia with leading roles for three trumpets and timpani. Before the singers get going, Bach seems to recall Jesus’s death with a melancholy Adagio in B minor for solo traverso and strings.

This series, in my opinion, will stand as one of the greatest musical accomplishments of our times. I have no adequate words to thank all the participants.
Really Sir 💖🌌🌠🌠 Soli Deo Gloria...Gloria another for Johann Sebastian Bach ❤ ❤ ❤ 😎👋👋 Goodbye from Lecce ( South Italy )
Dankeschön 😍 😍 😍! Bach ist wirklich SUUUUPER. Hi from northern Germany.
I agree wholeheartedly!
Hello to all,
A tremendous THANKS for offering us your talents and such a unique Bach music that brings to love of mankind by such a perfection !
Hi from Brittany, northenwestern France.❤
Ich bin einverstanden. Sie sind super.
Viele grüße aus Trient.
In spite of the hardships, challenges, bitterness, trials and suffering of many in the 17th and 18th Centuries, Bach offered a glorious glimpse into Heaven on so many occasions which thrill us over three hundred years later. Given the insanity, pathetic mediocrity and overt silliness in which we find ourselves in the 21st Century, we can find a respite for our weary souls and minds through Bach and be uplifted with the glorious hope of eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am absolutely convinced that Bach's works will be part of the heavenly repertoire for eternity.
Thank you! I could not have said it better.
Happy Easter.
An attitude like that will get you nowhere! Enjoy the amazingness of the present. Humanity has never had it so good, ya ingrate....
So well said, thank you!
Wonderful thoughts
Soli Deo Gloria!
The music of Johann Sebastian Bach is one of the few unadulterated blessings in this world.
No doubt about it! Thanks YOU TUBE to make it available. Eric Wicherts

Can one imagine attending the premiere of the St John Passion and then two days later the preimere of the Easter Oratorio.
When I see a video from Netherlands Bach Society I press like even before listening to it.
Me too.
So do I!
me too.
I know precisely what you mean.
Yes, I feel so, too♥💕
Bach is so much better than I ever knew.
My wife and I will never forget our beloved high school chem teacher, Preston Q. Boomer, who taught us to love Baroque music.
He built his own very impressive 2500 pipe organ with a "chapel" to put it in, on his property.
He would play Purcell's Trumpet Voluntary while we brass musicians from high school band would accompany him.
We'll never forget that experience up at his place in the mountains of Bonny Doon, CA back in the early '60's.
Decade after decade Preston would invite his students up for concerts and parties. Wonderful guy.
Wow!Please write about this teacher and maybe get it published-Readers Digest etc- a wonderful experience you had!

It's already been published. Look up "Felton Was So Fine" by David Glass.
Look at the chapter "Boomer". That was this teacher's last name.
I notice that most of the audience for Classical music are older people for some reason, but I'm 31 and I'm always crying when listening to Bach or Chopin, I don't know why this music makes me so emotional. Thanks for sharing this, it's really amazing we live in a time when we can witness a Bach performance at the tip of our fingers.
Thanks to be able to express your feelings.

Dear friend, I am now 71, and yes I love Bach and many other composers, but then I loved them also when I was your age, and even younger... Music knows no barriers, be it time, generations or geography... Enjoy it therefore endlessly... You are one of the fortunate millions... 😉
Just saying, 31 is not young.
But you do you, bro/sis, this music is lit af
Many younger people demand an audio-visual immersive experience not requiring deep thought or analysis. The "Emperor Joseph" mentality... "there are too many notes!"
So glad it's nearly Easter and time for Bach's beautiful Easter and passion music!
Maybe, I am going to get crazy. No way to stop listening to it.
Looking at everyone's eyes, they are all full of passion and love, totally immersed into the music of Bach.
If you don’t play Bach with your heart, won’t be Bach
@@fernandowski123 If you sing and play for Jesus its getting great. Some do, some don't. But you can see the difference.
@@aliasreco in fact, with our hearts open, we're as holy as Christ... :)
@@theoldleafybeard Thanks. But when I read the Bible, there's still a long way to go. Christ is full of love and compassion. But sin will be punished if we don't deliver ourselves totally to Christ. And He will purify us... and that will give us suffering. The bad has to go out before the good can come in. Whatever: I trust Him totally. He gives strength to endure the suffering. And He gives joy too. So enjoy the music!
@Harold Anderson And real love is to keep Gods commandments said Jesus...

I think most contemporaries of Bach who just went to church in Leipzig in those days had no idea how privilieged they were to see the maestro at work each week and hear all of this great music!
I agree. It's like great food: if you eat it every day you take it for granted. In fact Bach was unfashionable in his later years - his audiences probably groaned: "ehh, not him again!"
I dn't know. I think the musicians among them knew he was something special.
Peter Laman Bach has left his legacy to all mankind to enjoy in deep and humble thankfulness for the rest of history. These musicians do honour to him by their performance. ❤️
If time traveling was possible with only one performance date those tickets will be worth millions.
@@rnhtube I'm absolutely sure of that. When you get a new piece of music to sing, it's difficult at first, but then you begin to see the intricacies, the power and the inspiration. Then, gradually, you love it!
I felt like I was running in hurry to the tomb where my Lord was buried as I was listening the sinfonia. The scene became so real and I couldn't stop the stream of my tears thinking of the hearts of two Mary.
I discovered this great work during Holy Week and Easter of 1960 when I was in the military stationed at Fort Lewis, WA. When I was separated and returned home to Maryland that June, one of the first things I did was go to a music store and get an LP of the work. The cover had both the German and an English translation. Sadly, I let that LP get away from me over the years. But I love the work, especially the chorus "Kommt, eilet und laufet:" where Mary Magdalene and another Mary go to Jesus' tomb only to find it empty. And they run to Peter and the other disciples. Praise be to God and God's son, Jesus our Savior.
Here in Germany you can visit the mansion whete Bach lived.Itbis now a museum.

Here I am, enjoying this Oratorium during the Holy Week! I cannot imagine spending this time without this blessing! My thanks to this channel.
Last week I was at the concert hall in Edmonton, Alberta listening to the orchestra and chorus Playing Mendelsohn Elijah. I sang this oratorio my self and when the last notes died in the church I cried and felt the power of God deep in my soul, I felt so much closer to our Heavenly Father, That feeling never left me. The person that sat beside me commented on my involvement as I was lip singing every part that I still knew from Late 1995 when I sang Elijah.
Bach puts all we have experienced in perspective- from plagues, racism, and all the sorrows of our world, both past and present. But this music shows us the way - the way to go forward and embrace the beauty and love that is all around us. Thank you, JSB.
Очень атмосферное исполнение. Качество записи впечатляющее. Эти прекрасные люди несут свою изумительную многогранную интерпретацию Великого Гения. Это бесподобно..
