@@joycefinn5403 Sorry I didn't finish this. I got a little confused about the original naming of the parts in the second and third suite and the order seems to vary between recordings if I remember correctly. I will update it at some point. =)
@@joycefinn5403 That piece specifically is one of those that has no tempo indication but at least in the score of the third suite I'm looking at it's the first piece.
One of the great interpretation of this Händel masterpiece. Bravissimo!! The sentiment of the interpretation is notable. Congratulations to the orchestra and its maestro.
Perfection. The beauty in the movements of the musicians, as well. And the stamina! The musicians don't even seem to take a breath. Seamless. Amazing performance.
It's unique when an orchestra achieves a level when one is able to hear every instrument as a distinct voice and it is not drowned by the others. That is joyful to be profoundly affected by this. I'm certain that the recording master also had something to do with it.
I've never seen an orchestra where they play the music standing up. I'm not sure what difference it makes to the sound, but it's an interesting choice.
This was one of the first works I heard as a child that made me a fan of baroque music, especially Handel. Hearing the sounds of horns and trumpets I imagined myself flying through the sky through huge white clouds. What great memories!!!
31:25 - 34:27 so much delicacy and sensitivity, very amazing ! I agree with you Felipe and feels the same as you with hearing this so lovely music when I was a child. "Water Music" is my preferred music and Händel one of my preferred composer... Starting to learn music and flute at age of 8, first year of flute exam with trying to modestly play Handel's "little walk" piece of music... :-) I love baroque music, especially Händel's music !
At summer music camp this piece was always played over the PA as "reveille", so it is very nostalgic for me. The volume of sound from such a small ensemble is incredible, especially only two natural horns. Amazing.
Such a beautiful performance and so well filmed. I could imagine being there ! Viva Handel !!! Long after George I has been forgotten the world will remember Handel.
It's amazing how Händel created the most sustainable joy in musical history. What a deep entertainment! Let a warm light heat up our bodies by adopting the Händel mode!
I found myself wondering if there are very many professions, like this, where the spirit, soul and body are all so involved. And also incorporating one's own work seamlessly with another. Beautiful and inspiring.
This is one of my favorite pieces of music (I even used the Alla Hornpipe section for the recessional at our wedding) and this is one of the best performances I have seen/heard. Wonderful seeing the older types of instruments being used, th group of players standing, etc. Wonderful!!
he says it in a French accent, as it's a french name: Michel Richard Delalande - Chaconne. There are a few other versions of that piece available on youtube.
I have listened at least 20 times and I am always delighted to hear such an amazing piece of music. Thanks George Friederik Haendel and the Akademie fur Alte Musik Berlin. Greetings from Santiago, Chile
Dear Madame/Sir of Avrotros Klssiek, thank you very much indeed for providing such a lovely set of Handel's music performed, at the same time, by professionals. Thanks again from the Iraqi classic music listener Ali and God Bless you all.
the sheer joyous playing pulls me back to this performance again and again and again.... i thank each one of the players and recording staff who made this possible... deepest gratitude.... you created deepest beauty...
This is one astoundingly great performance! I just could not turn away. I especially loved the added diminutions here and there to give this music a little different flavor which makes this "old" music more alive. Any composers, like Handel, from the distant past if they came back today would be in tears of utter joy that their music is still played, and with such precision and beauty as does the Akademie.
I love this music played on period instruments. Beautiful! I am in awe of the skill these musicians have developed in order to play this music on instruments with fewer keys and accouterments, etc. of modern instruments! BRAVO!
Aside: The two trumpets are more modern "Baroque Trumpets" with vents at node points to change their fundamentals and make certain difficult intonations in tune without excessive "lipping". You can see that in the work of fingers and thumbs as they play. The horns are naturals, where the players have only their lips and bell-hands to adjust pitches. Still, the brass players are remarkable for their elegance and execution!
I love Water Music, one of the pinnacles of baroque orchestral music, a perfect mix of different styles: refined French, German (counterpoint and brass writing), Italian melodies and a touch of English dances. In Handel you find everything
I had forgotten how great, dynamic, and enlivening this music is. I listened to it as a teenager but have no memory for music unless it is actually being played. I am amazed at people who can write music and play it so well.
Yes. Back in 1973-4-5 in college, I had a record player (!) and this Water Music album was my go-to in order to center myself for studying. Just outstanding, nothing can be dismissed, nothing leads to daydreaming, but to complete focus and cherishing of every note and every change. Sublime.
A Baroque Orchestra playing Period (Baroque) Instruments is as close to being there as we get - and it's wonderful. Playing these instruments is adding layers of technique to that of playing modern (especially oboe and horn). Add the hefty price of these instruments and the undermined value and support society in general gives these musicians - it's a tough life. You literally pay twice as much for half the technology, but they're not doing this "for the money". This is for the love of representing the music in it's truest form. I salute all of these folks for what they do.
@@twigle3015 Let's hope we - or, rather perhaps, our governments the world over - have learned our lessons from this year. I think a lot of people realise only when they can't have access to live performances of any kind (my particular love is the theatre) how important they are - and how much we need them.
Well, I own both a baroque violin and a modern violin and their price is not that different. Also, my modern bow costs really much more than my baroque bow... (it depends everything on the budget you have). Not everybody, in fact, plays original instruments from the 1700 (or even before), but on copies (made maybe by contemporary luthiers, for example), even if we are talking about "period instruments".
Super. I always love the various interpretations of this piece. For me the genius of Handel is demonstrated in the Air when he misses out the first note (and inserts a rest) of the main theme when it's repeated near the end of the tune. Sorry if my meaning isn't clear (I'm a poor uneducated folk fiddler!). Very mischievous, completely addictive and the 'missing note' makes the piece special! Handel had all the best tunes!

Eight years after this was first recorded, I am delighted by its originality, its verve, its expertise. There is merit to re-watching old favourites - one discovers nuance previously unnoticed.
While planning my music lessons for school I listened to the whole "Water Music" today and it went so well - I will always use classical music from now on. Thanks for recording and publishing this wonderful piece!

My soul is comforted, even gladdened. I had not heard the 'Water Music' for about 20 years, and ravenously fell upon it. This version delighted me. Work took me down peoples' musical pathways; now I am able to choose my own - save when I am forced to shop in one of the world's supermarkets. Would that they would attain a finer balance: we might rejoice while purchasing our carrots and milk. Thank you!
I've listened to the performance every night and it brings me to tears every time. Be it the outstanding performance or the time in my life where I need to be uplifted I am so happy and sad at the same to be happy to enjoy this music. Handel is genius.
Also, to mention once more, that this essentially new art form, the RUclips video, gains so much by artistic & thoughtful videography. We, the often small, intimate audience of 1 or 2, can appreciate the music on an "additional" level, even learn some things, perhaps, about the composer's intent, from the faces & gestures of the players, as they interpret the piece within their technique & emotional perspective. The general & individual portraiture brings us close. Bravo, thanks to all.
I have attended live concerts for over 50 years, and yes the visual connection adds to the experience at a deep level. As to focus, the live experience is always best, but I love this music any way I can get it.
@@plinyelder8156 You should really hide behind a different alias, something like GBS the Lesser. Shaw's music criticism, often scathing, had no need of obtuse sarcasm. Confessing your oblivious attitude to the full experience of instrumental performance does no honor to the players, or their composers, or to all who make performance possible, right through to architects, & here, even to shipwrights. Glad you crawled out of your ashes, though - presumably a long climb; welcome to the 21st c.
Are you under the illusion that all YT videos are custom-made for YT?? This video would be praiseworthy re "artistic and thoughtful videography" wherever it may be shown and viewed. I should hardly call the YT video a new art form. The best on the site are not made for YT, and, unhappily, the rest are a mix of the well done, and rank amateurish, and what amount to con jobs -- vacuous material poorly presented.
@@pamos1949 Thank you for stating the obvious; always nice to have such kind remarks while being rescued from one's illusions. Whatever the quality, & wherever originally intended, Mr. Amos, it may also be obvious, even to you, that YT has become a widespread, & culturally embedded, means for experiencing classical music by a single person, small group of friends, et al., without need for a specific appointment, price of a ticket, cost of recording, etc. There is an intimacy & personal freedom in this, which seems to give many, especially many who are new to classical music, a chance to easily familiarize themselves with, & appreciate its greatness, even unexpectedly. Video recordings, still images in sequence, etc., is not new; likewise audio production of live performance. But, bundling them for free (yes, ads...) to the entire world? Name a precedent? We're not talkin' MTV, here, fair enough? When apt, the visual choice of fine paintings or photos can attract audience appreciation as well as "seeing" the musicians play, not so? And, if new audiences stumble upon Haendel by accident, why complain? As for "vacuous material poorly presented," we may let others judge our comments. Is it not, finally, obvious that these very YT opportunities for actual discussion (& disagreement) among a worldwide audience - a new community in itself, people like ourselves, who don't even know each other - that this can enlarge our insight & appreciation of the classical music tradition?
Extraordinary concert of one of the top works of G.F. Händel who honors his memory with propriety and pleasant instrumentation, every time someone interprets music of this masterful genius of the Baroque, is to relive his magic and his great imagination that conquers us who sensitively we capture him, for his simplicity, for his humanistic quality , and know how to share with everyone, as in the first staging of the real fireworks, for all future generations, a sample of their ability to teach with their notes the origin of the universe and the true meaning of life. The headings naming the Suite and the roman numerals show the conventional ordering before the discovery of the 1718 copy. The numbers are the order in this performance based on the newly found copy. I am still not sure about the numbering but for referencing in this video it's certainly fine.

What is the piece that starts at about 31 minutes?
@@joycefinn5403 Sorry I didn't finish this. I got a little confused about the original naming of the parts in the second and third suite and the order seems to vary between recordings if I remember correctly. I will update it at some point. =)
@@joycefinn5403 That piece specifically is one of those that has no tempo indication but at least in the score of the third suite I'm looking at it's the first piece.
One of the great interpretation of this Händel masterpiece. Bravissimo!! The sentiment of the interpretation is notable. Congratulations to the orchestra and its maestro.
Wonderful performance of Handel’s Water Music. It has been at least 50 years ago I first heard this piece and this this was outstanding. Thank you.
34 years ago I played the horn parts for this set. It is a fun bit of music to play and to listen to. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
@@misskitty285 it can help with air support in the winds.
Angela, so agree! fine music, and performances like this for me are the pinnacle of human achievement and enjoyment.
Absolutely agree with your comment. Perhaps being a midwife, or art conservation, sculpture, violin making.
This is one of my favorite pieces of music (I even used the Alla Hornpipe section for the recessional at our wedding) and this is one of the best performances I have seen/heard. Wonderful seeing the older types of instruments being used, th group of players standing, etc. Wonderful!!
One of the very finest performances of this music I've heard. Thank you so much for sharing it.
just download it and enjoy since they won't answer you
he says it in a French accent, as it's a french name: Michel Richard Delalande - Chaconne.

Always loved Handel's Water music.Very relaxing.
From majesty to tenderness to innocence, thoroughly sublime. Happy Birthday, Sir.
I love this music played on period instruments. Beautiful! I am in awe of the skill these musicians have developed in order to play this music on instruments with fewer keys and accouterments, etc. of modern instruments! BRAVO!
Love the natural horns and trumpets. Being a former French horn player it is quite amazing to see what these folks can do without valves!
Those two dudes with their horns are grrrreat aren't they
Aside: The two trumpets are more modern "Baroque Trumpets" with vents at node points to change their fundamentals and make certain difficult intonations in tune without excessive "lipping".
Pavana, passacaglia, chacona, gallarda, among other Spanish Renaisance dances are also a part of that tradition
Hands down the *best* Water Music I’ve ever heard-bravissimi!!
I know the Bassoon doesn't get a lot of credit, but that guy was spot on. Awesome performance by all!
'Haendel immer Haendel', besonderes wenn so traumhaft gespielt wie hier. Es freut mich sehr dass es immer noch ganz begabte Musikanter gibt.
Sublime.
Such a powerful performance! The bassoon sounds incredible!
Can't you just picture this group in a magnificent boat floating down the Thames with Royalty looking on. So lovely to listen to.
Thank you. I wish you were a little bit less correct in your statement...
I don't think any of the instruments are broke. That's what they're supposed to sound like.
I've never enjoyed Handel so much as this, the players really breathe this music. Beautiful performance, start to finish.
Lovely rendition of this wonderful music. Thank you .
An absolute amazing performance, it blew me away, goosebumps and tears of joy🎶
The Best Orchestral baroque music ever... Handel, the supreme master 🙌🏻
As a musician who has played in this hall with it’s most challenging acoustic I can only give you a heartfelt BRAVO for this magnificent performance!
Thank God that Haendel exists. May his works sound till the end of mankind.
I never liked water music much before.OMG what a perfect performance. On every morning to start the day and then some. Can not tire of this
Excellent music, Excellent play, Excellent recording...kudos to Akademie für alte Musik Berlin. Feel blessed !

Such a perfect and yet "humble" performance !!!!
Excellent !!!!!
I’ll have to refloat my barge and take it down the Thames. Stupendous recreation, bravo!
Merci !
Eight years after this was first recorded, I am delighted by its originality, its verve, its expertise.
There is merit to re-watching old favourites - one discovers nuance previously unnoticed.
Endless invention from GFH and endless delight in this performance. Solo oboist is divine!
Sprightly, brisk and pure! Beautifully executed ⚜️
Bravo Händel, bravo Akademie für alte Musik Berlin -- it is a magnificent poem by musical instruments in the highest order.
The focus is music, not video. Thanks for losing perspective.
México

The first time I heard Handel's Water Music was at Teatro Colón (Bogotá) in 1962. Of course I fell in love with it. But here with this wonderful Orchestra the authentic sound from the composer time, flows admirably. Thank you for posting.
That particular period is characterise by a sense of rhythmic rarely surpassed.Melody is translucent and like a river with borders of green grass ,it flows constantly with the sound melting from the forest to that of water.Always an expression of full enjoyment of life.
I'm cheering to the computer screen. It is a gray day for me but you lifted my spirits to the heavens. Thank you.
