Bach's cantatas are simply UNBEATABLE ... Bach is always extraordinary, solo, instrumental etc ... but to me he's at his best with the cantatas ... I'm able to understand what he's doing in the instrumental works ... but the cantatas go beyond my understanding ... till today I have NO idea how he did it , all these different voices playing something different and they all fit together .. NO words really, it's timeless beauty and awesomeness ..
Ian Bostridge is an amazing artist to model my interpretation after. His voice is so lovely and pure. I loved doing this piece for my college's Christmas concert!
I do understand what I deem to be cool for myself or not, and I particularly find this music cool. I need not be a specialist of Bach to know if I enjoy his music or not. So in other words, your comment is dumb, not mine.
@@willmurrin9344 disregard the pretentious twat. In case you're not aware, this style of music is called a French Ouverture. Listen to some Lully for the origins of it, but Bach used it in every setting possible (BWV 20, BWV 110 and others) in the goldberg (26 I think) in the Art of Fugue (6th or 7th I forgot).

Dieu doit beaucoup à Bach, disait Cioran.
The problem with Harnoncourt is that he is an ideologue who tried to discredit competing interpretations as 'incorrect'. But much of his hip practice 'is based on invention, and historically informed performances are radically inauthentic, shaped by an idea of fleet coolness that is born of 20th-century taste and modern formalist perception, rather than a homage to the past'. Besides Bach' s son CPE Bach said that his father always wanted more singers and musicians, but his employers at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig didn't give him the money. In 1786 CPE performed the Credo of the Hohe Messe with a large orchestra and chorus as his father always intended. So why to perform with small ensembles if Bach suffered through them?
Dummes Zeug.
Bravo, Conducts: Nikolaus Harnoncourt!
