  • In this video I do my best to show you how to remove a factory installed speaker and replace it with an aftermarket speaker. It isn't perfect, but since I wasn't able to find a video of this, I thought I would take the liberty of making it myself. If nothing else, I hope this will be a useful guide for someone looking to do the same thing.
    The vehicle in this video is a 2010 Kia Forte Sedan SX
    Transmission: 6-speed manual
    Engine: 2.4L I4 16V DOHC VVT
    Front Speakers: Polk Audio db6501 (6 1/2-inch two way component system with external crossover)
    www.polkaudio.com/db6501/d/109...
    Rear Speakers: Polk Audio MM651 (6 1/2-inch coaxial loudspeaker)
    www.polkaudio.com/mm651/d/1151...

    Thanks for the video. I am in the process of getting new speakers for my Forte.

    Sorry it took so long to reply to these comments, I had some issues figuring a couple things out.
    The speakers and speaker sizes are as follows:
    Front doors: Polk Audio DB6501 2-Way 6.5" Component Speaker System Marine Grade
    Rear doors: Polk Audio MM651 2-way 6.5" Car Stereo Speakers Marine Grade Boat (but not limited to)
    I should add that you do not have to get the 6.5. I believe you can use 5.25 as well but I would have to do my research again to be 100% certain.

    Im looking forward to change them but dont know the speaker sizes

      I apologize for taking 9 months to reply to this message. The issue was that I did not know I had to approve the comments before I could see and reply to them. I figured this out just today by stumbling upon it finally. You probably already know the sizes by now, but I will post a new comment regardless. Sorry again!

    Dude, Great vid as far as Removing the door panel, but the whole stuffing paper in the door is a huge mistake. There is other material that can be used to help the sound out. Dynomat is one great way to stick or rattle proof the door speaker. That paper is gonna rattle to hell and sound like shit.

      +Steven Lesh First of all, if you would have read previous comments, you would know that there had been no issues with the paper.
      "I will also add that if you also decide not to mount your crossover (if you have them) I would use bubble wrap instead of the paper that I used.
      I will say this, I STILL have the paper in there and have been through 1 winter and 1 spring, several car washes and the paper is still dry. I
      had not thought about that until someone else mentioned it. But the paper is actually doing fine. Though, when I get in the doors again,
      I'll be changing to bubble wrap. You will definitely want to do this OR mount them especially if you plan to purchase rust protection."
      No rattling or anything, I see why you would say that, but I can honestly say, I had no issues. Of course though, I don't exactly blast my music and even assuming I did, it probably would have been too loud to hear any rattling anyway. If I would have thought of the many uses of Dynomat, that probably would have been an option, aside from patience and whatnot.
      The paper has since been replaced and the car sold. That being the main reason for replacing as I really didn't have any other reason to go back in the doors. Like I said, I got online and couldn't find another video to help me through this situation, so I thought I'd do the best I could, with the tools and knowledge I had at the time to possibly help anyone else who may have been interested in doing the same thing.

    Exactly what I was looking for, this was perfect, I'm assuming the other doors are exactly the same?

    • @AllusiveGold

      +sw204me I copied this from a previous comment.
      "Front Speakers: Polk Audio db6501 (6 1/2-inch two way component system with external crossover)
      www.polkaudio.com/db6501/d/1099C2676
      Rear Speakers: Polk Audio MM651 (6 1/2-inch coaxial loudspeaker)
      www.polkaudio.com/mm651/d/1151C2778
      I paired the front and rear together this way because of the closely matching specs as opposed to the db651's or anything else.
      Should you decide to go 5 1/4 you (obviously) will need a bracket. I imagine there are several places to get them, but I know you can get
      them from www.crutchfield.com for sure. I don't remember but I don't think using a bracket is too
      much of a pain. I had considered it at first, but after seeing all my options, I chose 6 1/2. Fairly easy install as you can see."
      I think that setup made the most sense, but you can definitely use a different size!

    i wondering is your cross over still working fine?
    - you shall get a proper speaker casing, aluminium type would be the best.
    -cross over should not wrap in that way and place at the door, or you shall place behind the door panel because inside would be wet due to rain.
    -the brown paper should not be stuff in, once it get wet there goes your rust begin.
    You got most of the tools, but just lack of speaker casing.

    • @AllusiveGold
      @AllusiveGold  10 лет назад

      Cross overs work fine. I've made several changes since the video. I don't have anything on the inside of the door anymore as a result of the window rolling down and you can hear it hitting the wire. I also noticed it got wet inside the door, so I decided to move everything. Cross overs are currently taped on the outside of the door. I will mount when its not so cold out.
      Unless you are referring to speaker "baffles" I have no idea what speaker casing is. I will be installing these at a later time. They sound absolutely fine without them though. I've even heard in some cases, adding the baffles may either lower the quality of sound or some people just don't prefer it.
      I actually went back to a ported sub box because the sealed one I bought I didn't like it as much. The bass is definitely cleaner, but I tend to like the ported sound more.
      You shall replace "shall" with "should" to be more appropriate, or refer to making suggestions. Thanks :)

      Just an update. Everything is still working beautifully :)

    Also, why would you cut the speaker out? Why not just remove the mounting screws and use the same holes and screws to mount the new speaker? Or was this speaker not a direct replacement and it wouldn't fit or line up with the original mounting hardware?

      @AllusiveGold  9 лет назад +2

      Unfortunately I failed to mention this in the video and to be honest, since I've done this, there are a lot of things that I would probably do different. But as I said, no one had made a video and since I was determined to figure it out for myself, I figured I would share my learning with anyone else interested.
      More to the point, if you scroll to about 4:26 in the video, you will notice that the speaker/bracket whatever is actually riveted into the frame of the door. The only way to remove this speaker is to beat it out. Of course, there may be a more "professional" way to do this, but I don't have the tools or the interest in that as the way I did it was probably the fastest and you're not likely going to be using these speakers again once you hear how amazing your new ones sound.
      I should also point out that much like an idiot, I totally failed to mention speaker specs, so, here goes:
      Front Speakers: Polk Audio db6501 (6 1/2-inch two way component system with external crossover)
      www.polkaudio.com/db6501/d/1099C2676
      Rear Speakers: Polk Audio MM651 (6 1/2-inch coaxial loudspeaker)
      www.polkaudio.com/mm651/d/1151C2778
      I paired the front and rear together this way because of the closely matching specs as opposed to the db651's or anything else.
      Should you decide to go 5 1/4 you (obviously) will need a bracket. I imagine there are several places to get them, but I know you can get them from www.crutchfield.com for sure. I don't remember but I don't think using a bracket is too much of a pain. I had considered it at first, but after seeing all my options, I chose 6 1/2. Fairly easy install as you can see.
      I will also add that if you also decide not to mount your crossover (if you have them) I would use bubble wrap instead of the paper that I used. I will say this, I STILL have the paper in there and have been through 1 winter and 1 spring, several car washes and the paper is still dry. I had not thought about that until someone else mentioned it. But the paper is actually doing fine. Though, when I get in the doors again, I'll be changing to bubble wrap. You will definitely want to do this OR mount them especially if you plan to purchase rust protection.
      I may get around to making another video sometime, I guess it depends on peoples interest and how bored I am. I don't think enough people really have this car (or interest) to warrant it so whatever, lol.
      If there's anything I can help anyone with though, don't hesitate to ask.

      ***** The Crutchfield and some various other information was mentioned so that way the general interest of others that happened to look at the comment would know. It wasn't necessarily directed toward you or anyone in particular, I was just trying to be helpful.
      As far as it being "way more trouble than it's worth" I suppose that would have to depend on the person. I like to do things myself and save myself money as well as having the satisfaction of self accomplishment. But all things aside, if I had to go back and do it again, I most definitely would because this is actually really easy.. However, prior to doing it, I guess I wouldn't have known that. And if I had blown speakers, I'd probably go ape shit because I listen to music every time I'm in my car, lol. To each his own though :)

    what size are the speakers?

      Mine are 6.5" but I believe you can use 5.25 as well. Not 100% certain though. I do know that 6.5" is no the only size you can use though.

    Can you put subwoofers inside? In stead of in the trunk? I really hate the subs the in it and I want to replace it

    • @AllusiveGold
      @AllusiveGold  9 лет назад

      2cool0 Sorry it took so long to reply. You probably have figured out the answer to your question by now. But if not, I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean. Could you explain a little better?

    • @2cool0
      @2cool0 9 лет назад

      AllusiveGold yeah i did call best buy and asked but they said no you can't. What i meant by the question was, can you replace the subwoofers you currently have from the factory with aftermarket subwoofers WITHOUT changing the stereo.

    • @AllusiveGold
      @AllusiveGold  8 лет назад

      +2cool0 The car doesn't come with any subwoofers so I would imagine you could do whatever you want. I've seen a lot of people actually keep the stock stereo and add a woofer or 2. It's in my opinion a temporary fix until you can get a better head unit. I would strongly suggest that, but if you like the stock one, then I guess there's no reason to change aside from quality!
