  • In this video I show the difference between bleach, hi-lift, and regular permanent hair color. This should help you to determine which product will be the best option for lightening your hair. I used two different hair samples for each test, one that is a level 7 and one that is a level 5. Each hair swatch is made with virgin (non-color treated) human hair. It’s important to keep in mind that hi lift and permanent color WILL NOT lighten through previous colored hair.

    Thank you so much. I wanted to find a video for Pravana High LIft Cool Violet on this level color for a long time! Please keep them them coming. Same video for Wella High Lift maybe? They claim 5 levels instead of the 4 from Pravana. Thanks again!

    Thank you for this!! Question. If I want my hair bleached to prep for a vivid, would it makes sense and save my hair a bit to use color to lighten 2 levels and then bleach it with a lower volume?

    • @haveagoodhairday
      @haveagoodhairday  Месяц назад +1

      If you’re going to bleach it anyway, I wouldn’t do the color first. Virgin hair always lifts better than color treated, so you would then be having to lift through the color you did prior. Depending on what vivid you are doing, you could potentially use a high lift to lighten instead of bleach. But it all depends on what starting level is needed for the vivid!

    Thank you for this video! I have a level 4 Wella Koleston and want to lift it without bleach to a level 6. If I use Malibu CPR to remove the level 4 would I get similar results since I’m removing the color or will this work strictly on virgin hair regardless or which color remover I use?

    • @haveagoodhairday
      @haveagoodhairday  2 дня назад

      In my experience Malibu cpr can be unpredictable, but if you’re only wanting to lift 2 levels you should be good with CPR then you can tone it down to the shade you’re looking for! Just know that CPR doesn’t make the hair virgin again and you still won’t be able to lighten it further without using bleach unfortunately. I always recommend doing a test strand before your whole head just so you know exactly what to expect ❤️❤️

    My daughter has medium dark natural blonde mid back hair and for years my colorist friend used high lift on her cuz she was 18 when started with highlights and I didn't want the damage of pure bleach. She used Goldwell 11V and some blonding cream with P mix and 40 volume? Nice fine highlights. I wrote all this down since I knew she was retiring. Then we went to another colorist who just slaps on pure bleach in big chucks. Not the natural look I prefer on my daughter, but she's 29 now so should be stating her own preferences. I like warm, honey/wheat tones and not stripped white of any natural look whatsoever. Anyway, I thank you for stating what I knew...no toner is needed with high lift or regular color. SO, I want to ask this stylist to stop using pure bleach and do one of your methods...how do I request the highlights we want (English is second language for her). Also do brands really matter?

    • @haveagoodhairday
      @haveagoodhairday  2 месяца назад +2

      As long as her hair is not colored with a darker color, then hi lift will be a good option for her instead of bleach! (Hi lift won’t lighten previously colored hair, only bleach will.) I would specifically ask for hi lift color, and bring pictures of what you want as well as what you DON’T want! If she doesn’t use hi lift, I’d look for someone else that does! Hope this helps! ❤️❤️

      @@haveagoodhairday I think there is more time involved in Hi Lift process and also products used. I got lost in one of your videos where you mixed three different colors in three different bowls! This lady we go to (she's a bargain at $85 for bleach highlights) would never do all the mixing or buy good color and try to customize. I find most colorists (here in CA anyway) just want to slap on bleach with foils. I will continue to look for someone although my daughter should be doing this (busy medical worker and I'm fascinated with hair color, not her). Thank you for your responses.

    Something that's confusing me aside from the ash gold blonde, is why can't one use metal bowls but can use foil? Isnt foil a metal? And if you want to explain ash gold please do. I looked it up but still cant understand it. Would it be if you want a gold blonde but have too much warmth when lifting?

    • @haveagoodhairday
      @haveagoodhairday  Месяц назад +1

      These are great questions! So I believe that the difference is that foils are aluminum, not steel so there is a different chemical reaction.
      And with the ash gold, you are right!Typically ash is green based and gold is yellow based so the tone that is created has a green yellow base. Green cancels out red, not gold. I know it can be confusing but take a look at this detailed color wheel to try to make it easier to understand!

    What if there's additional heat? Im planning to do my roots only and obviously they always lift higher because of the heat from the scalp. How much of a difference do you think it will make?

    • @haveagoodhairday
      @haveagoodhairday  23 дня назад

      It will be slightly lighter but not significant! Essentially the cuticle is just opened wider with extra heat allowing the color to penetrate better, but the lifting power is still the same

      @@haveagoodhairday I'm just comparing it with bleach. Previously I bleached my whole head and wore a plastic cap, and I saw a significant sifference in how fast and much my roots lifted comparing to the rest, but it irritated my scalp so I want to switch to a high lift dye. Do you think it's possible for it to lift level 6 roots to level 9?

    you didn't do the high lift color correctly. I've been able to lift brown hair to a very blonde color using high lift color but you need to add a booster to it.

    • @haveagoodhairday
      @haveagoodhairday  19 дней назад +1

      Boosters are dependent on the brand! With Pravana, their booster 000 doesn’t actually provide more lifting power. It will merely “brighten” the tone, not “lighten” it more levels. What brand of hi-lift do you use that recommends intermixing boosters?

      Hi-lift is formulated differently & has different instructions. Usually does have some neutral or tonal color in it. It’s good for like a root blend on a naturally light haired person.
