About Me:
My name is Kevin Cook. I'm originally from Dallas, TX, but I've been living and traveling in Asia since 2013.
After graduating from university in 2011 and working a few unfulfilling jobs, I saved enough money to move to Asia and work as a teacher for a few years. That opportunity allowed me to travel around and experience new foods and cultures, and ignited a passion for blogging and making videos.
Now I travel full-time and make videos with the goal that I can encourage YOU to pursue your own dream of overseas traveling and living.

The personal income of Hongkong is world No 30.Hongkongese economy depends on toilet-size houses.
Many Hongkomngese live in 1 square meter "house."

what country are you from?
de legend
Hongkongese were slaves in Manchu Empire.
Manchus gave Hongkong to British Empire.Manchus ruled China for 300 years till 1911.
Manchu conquest of China - Wikipedia
Why I love Hong Kong
"Hong Kong has a complexity that defies definition. It's the only place where I can be searching for colonial military relics near the Chinese
border, lunching with a Buddhist at a Sikh temple, trying to decipher the aesthetics of Chinese Revival architecture, or splurging on a set of
knives - all within five hours - followed by a night of Cantonese opera, karaoke or poetry, anywhere I choose. Hong Kong is so intense and so
full of possibilities that I’m glad there’s the rule of law (and an awesome transport system) to stop it from whirling into chaos."
Futuristic skyscrapers set against a shimmering harbor; the chimes from double decker trams zipping through traffic; the smell of roast geese
hanging by shop windows: Hong Kong makes a first impression like no other place on Earth. The business and financial hub proudly flaunts-and
deserves-the title of “Asia’s World City.” The former British Crown Colony is prime for an urban adventure; from the neon-lit streets of Mongkok
to the humble fishing villages in Tai O, you will never run out of sights to discover, and Buffalo Trip's Hong Kong travel guide will take you to the
best of them.
In Asia’s most cosmopolitan city, everyone seems to be in a rush-dashing off to work in some soaring high rise, hurrying to catch a tram or a
subway, speed-shopping through the countless shopping malls, hastening to make a date at one of the myriad glassed-in restaurants and chic
cocktail bars. Beyond the 21st-century cacophony and the accelerated tempo, however, the savvy visitor can find glimpses of old-world
tranquillity: incense-wreathed Taoist temples; polished hotel lobbies serving afternoon tea in the English style; rustic remote walking trails;
graceful tai-chi practitioners in tidy city parks. When you visit Hong Kong, you’ll notice that its relatively small size-the city “only” holds seven
million people-superb public transportation system, cheap taxis, and bilingual signage make it a cinch to navigate. Just remember to slow down
every now and then.
The city is called many things, not least of all a country in and of itself. As the world's most vertical and arguably futuristic city with high-tech
transportation, it's a fascinating place to explore. Tap into the city's frenetic energy when you use our guide to plan a Hong Kong trip.
Best Time To Go
Owing to a subtropical climate, Hong Kong’s sweltering summer months are sauna-like, and there are frequent monsoons and typhoons during
that time of year. Prime timing for a trip falls around mid-October to late December, when temperatures are still mild and Chinese tourists
swarming in for the week-long national holiday have left.

Love your content man! Haven't seen you for a while though. Have you ever thought about setting up the patreon thing? I'm sure a lot of people here are willing to give you some extra support :)
Yeah I already set it up patreon.com/monkeyabroad :)
Never knew you can actually climb up the peak on foot! Thought you always have to take the tram. lol
Pro HK tip: Skip lunch hours (usually till 2.30pm) and wait for tea set (2.30pm-5.30pm). Almost same quantity and quite better price.
Man... wish we saw this before we went!!! Great vlog! We down a fortune but the video pays off! Share some love to our HK experience and let us know what you think!
try it in singapore
spend S$20 on sarong girl? ain't that cheap tho
Xiao Ming would be easy in Singapore if he found somewhere to stay for free, hawker food in Singapore is dirt cheap. And there is so much to do or see in Singapore that is free. $20US = $30 SGD, you could eat well on that. In fact you could even squeeze it in Singapore paying for your own bed, as hostels are MUCH cheaper there than in Hong Kong, I have got a bed as little as $12.50 SGD and have never paid over $20.
Xiao Ming Hainan chicken rice every meal
I have video of me and a friend in Hong Kong on the side walk eating and having fun . was an awesome day
you make awesome video bro, you will be very successful. I am also an expat in Shanghai and traveled to many destinations you went, hope I will see you in person some day
Thanks for watching :)
what a life you have there :D wish i could do what you're doing :D love all your video :D
Cheers MA! See you again next time mate
+Michael great to meet you man! Thanks for a fun day of filming in HK
You could have got a ferry from central to lantau or bus from the airport over the hill to the beach at pui o. There is free camping on the beach. Great trails and also mcdonalds is one of the cheapest places to eat or seven eleven.
OMG, you really did come to HK!!
Great video. Thanks so much for this. I'm going to HKG in April next year. I do miss your China adventures (and your Mandarin 😉).
I might just be heading back there soon. Stay tuned for some new China adventures
Amazing Exprience.....great job buddy
Urban Bear Grills. Good stuff man! Keep rock
Thanks man
Absolutely - need to do couchsurfing (or sleep someplace for free like you're doing) if you expect to make your budget in HK.
cheapest room I've found there (in Kowloon) is approx $40US/night
HK is worth visiting if you haven't been before, but it is way too crowded (and expensive)
im watching again your videos because im travelling next week in southeast asia. ill try to do the $20/day, at least on my food consumption. :D
Nice video! Yep I agree, you can do Hong Kong on $20 per day. Easy! The cheapest hostel I could find must have cost around $15 per night. Only a short stay for me, but worth couchsurfing or crashing at a friends place. I made some similar vlogs to do Hong Kong on a budget ..cheap food, transport, etc. I stayed in Causeway Bay which I found was very cheap for local food (even cheap bakeries for breakfast) and convenient for transport. So if your viewers are considering a convenient and cheap location, then Kowloon is a good spot. But also really check out Causeway Bay. Minus accommodation and having a Octopus travel card, I was probably doing less than $20 per day on average.
I Pho King love Hong Kong. Hong Kong and Bangkok are probably my two favourite cities in the world.
I love your shirt in this video!!!
U r a lucky man keep doing great work
You should have more subscribers! Nice videos!! :)
Wow you really did a great job, because living in Hong Kong is quite expensive(especially for local)
You could spend a little less if you ask for food with the filipina workers that hang out there in central, they are nice and will let you have some to eat. Ferry? U can save $3 if you just go swim in from hk island to kowloon..
Haha....finally he will be jailed from hk police on kowloon side, very good to save money for eat and sleep....
Lol you should write a travel blog
@@user-el7gc9lr9s lol popo give him free accommodation
Cool better try it on my trip to Hong Kong next year
Nice, I was visiting in Oct 2016!
hi Kev bud, i think it will be interesting to put your quest more to like a challenge than capping it on $20, that way the possible and not possible will give your vlogs a more logical statement and open the quest to more countries.
Thanks a bunch
3 cheese buns or cream buns for $5 for breakfast, $15-17 for a bowl of wonton noodle soup or similar for lunch, save the rest for dinner e.g. a bowl of rice, soup, veggie and stream fish or meat for dinner ~$35 HKD
I love the part where the guy doing all the tricks in the street gets approached by the police. Great editing.
Nice video as usual!
So, additional 20 bucks will cover the lodging?
Nice bro 👍🏻
was the tram free to go back down from the peak or did you walk it down? and what camera are you using? Thanks
still expensive compared to other cities you traveled ^^ thumps up for you thanks for this great video
Thank you!!
You can try Singapore. There's also some folks who chills right outside the mall "Lucky Plaza" and picnics there.
Hope dashing Kevin is going to Manila. I'll be glad to help you go to the nice places. 😘❤️
haha thanks for making the old lady happy. I would buy you an ice cream
Finally Hong kong.Great video again, felt short again . Try for 10 minutes atleast so you could give some insights on the city.
Mumbai next?
and btw You deserved the curry. 😊
haha thanks man I was craving it. I'm in Goa right now, actually. Very close to Mumbia
i love pocari sweat lot more than any ohter sport drink, i lived in Japan for 5 years
Nice insight! I didn't know HK could be this cheap. What about transportation back to Jackie's?
WOW.....COOL VIDEO
Yeah Macau would be cool to see!
20 Dollar in HK is an interesting idea... .if you have to spare or less of money left. It´s good to know how to manage this in HK.
Everyone has different reasons when travelling. Depending on these you spend more or less money in a short time. My reasons are mainly try to eat tasty foods , which satified me the most and feel the athmopshere...
Hope to see you in Guangzhou, Canton. It must fit yoour appetite!!
😛wow. i watch your great video in my country.Awesome scenery.Great Sir you visit hongkong.for us dmestic helper this is our second home.😍
wow, the T-shirt was bought in Vn xD xD xD , you are absolutely friendly xD
Kevin, it's time to try Singapore! =D
Come to Shenzhen which is another city just besides Hong Kong. I'm so excited to watching ur USD 20 video cause I have travelled the same countries as u. Like Cambodia, Philippine, Vietnam...
I'm living in Shenzhen n I'm willing u to stay at my couch 👍🏻👍🏻
Did you walk down all the way from the peak at night? ;)
Great video man, I was in Europe for 3 weeks and I sent 1200USD on everything. Which part of the U.S. are you from?
I love Hong Kong.
do a $20 video in Oslo, Norway. that'd be fun.
good content
Why haven't you uploaded a video In a couple of months? I hope you didn't run out of 20's, your videos are awesome, keep up the good work
New video will be up tomorrow! Just working out a little bit of red tape for this next one ;)
New video will be up tomorrow! Just working out a little bit of red tape for this next one ;)
Well if you want cheap food just go to Tam Chai Noodle shop and ask for the Jumbo set meal, it's around 50HKD and i'm sure you can barely finish it the portion is really huge lol
Man, I love Pumpkin. :')
1st day on couch. Next few days upgraded room
Sure you slept on the couch dude sure.. lol. Awesome videos bdw
If you can do Hong Kong then surely you're up to the challenge of Tokyo & Singapore!
Alexander Concannon Singapore is substantially cheaper than Hong Kong, would be very easy there if you had accommodation.
Good point, I just think it would be incredibly interesting to see more expensive cities as well. I myself live in Beijing and know how damn cheap it is to live here, well to eat anyways. Would love to see more expensive parts of Asia AS WELL, so I can go to these places on the cheap, well for a day or so :P.
I love that shirt.
20 dollars in Dubai it's impossible
Slim Shady I live in Dubai I know
Slim Shady it is possible when you live in Dubai but for tourist it's hard
zoMoo Trivial if you can stay with a friend, how much is a thali in Deira? How do you think most of the population of Dubai, who are South Asian migrant workers, survive? Dubai is actually a pretty cheap place to visit if you are on a shoestring, much cheaper than Western Europe.
Do 20 dollars a day in Monaco
Light Yagami 😭
Gufran Patwe its easy bro, you don’t need a whole day in Monaco. I bought a bus thicket from Nice to Monaco within 10 euro and that’s my only cost haha
I had one of the best bowls of beef noodles ever in kowloon for 3USD, HK can be cheap
Twenty bucks a day in Singapore?
Phở Kinh in Vietnam & Jackia beautiful ....
Are you going to try Singapore as well?
Since you went .9 dollars over budget you have to do the next episode with 19 dollars and 10 cents
He went 0.9 HKD over, so about 12 cents in USD.
+Tommy Chen but if you hold me to that then I've got like a total of ten dollars left over from previous videos... especially Vietnam. And yeah, it was 0.9 HKD, not USD
Or just wash some dishes at the beef curry place. Guessing the pay rate may be a little lower in HK (even in soho)--so maybe wash dishes, sweep and mop, clean windows, entertain triads, inventory, etc.
Air bnb has entire apartment listings for around $50usd to $100. So if you go with a friend that's $25 a piece and those prices seem really affordable
this was dope as shit g
love your vids! wish I had the balls to try and eat anything.. merp, can't hack half thee stuff you guzzle down..😉🍔🍟🍦🍲🍥🍤🍛🍢🍣🍡
buddy RESPECT from india
I went to Hong Kong 11 years ago as a 17 year old. Coming from the UK, I could not believe how cheap it was. I felt like a king. When did it get so expensive? We did stay in a local area away from tourist central.
Lpool FC It has always been expensive. UK just happens to be way more expensive, especially for the food and some goods.
Andrew Christiansen
The UK is not that expensive, you know. London is expensive. Sometimes double in prices of elsewhere I have heard. The rest of the UK is kind of cheap.
Andrew Christiansen
I remember back then paying less than £2 for a meal and buying tons of dvds for next to nothing.
Lpool FC Well, actually, food is among the least expensive in Hong Kong. And yeah, knockoff stuff. And transportation too. The rest, ugh!
A small bunch of people steal the money so...
Hong Kong lovely mate.. Best you skipped the ice cream.... I loved the PUMPKIN.. DIG on more on Veggie and vegan food..
Go to Sri lanka. beautiful Island
$30 HKD for dinner, $25 HKD for lunch and $10 HKD for breakfast. Bring your own bottle and fill it up from the water fountain.
