Arriving from the International Airport in Hong Kong
1) Airport Express train ride ($90 to $100 HKD = approximately $11 to $13 USD)
2) Cityflyer bus ($10 to $50 HKD = approximately $5 to $6 USD)
3) Taxi (local price = $250 to $350 approximately $45 to $50 $USD)
Accommodations in Hong Kong
1) Hostel in Hong Kong - ($17 to $30 USD)
2) 2 star or 3 star Hotel in Hong Kong - ($40 to $150 USD)
3) 4 or 5 star Hotel in Hong Kong - ($200 to $600 USD)
4) AirBnB in Hong Kong or apartment in Hong Kong (rental) - ($35 to $80 for a room and $80 to $200+ for the whole studio or apartment)
Areas to consider staying include Kowloon (Mong Kong or Tsim Sha Tsui. The cheapest and most infamous option is the Chungking Mansions.) Or consider Hong Kong Island (Causeway Bay is a popular shopping and entertainment district)
Local Transportation around Hong Kong
1) Hong MTR (Mass transit railway aka the metro subway)
2) Hong Kong Tramways double-decker trams on Hong Kong Island
3) The Peak Tram to visit Victoria Peak
4) The Star Ferry (cross from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon or vice versa)
Be sure to get an Octopus Card (八達通) which is allows you to pay for all forms of transportation in Hong Kong (aside from taxis) along with some museums, convenience stores and restaurants.

2) Free Museums of Wednesday (Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Hong Kong Science Museum & Hong Kong Museum of Art)

Things to do in Hong Kong (Hong Kong must see)
1) Peak tram ride for incredible views of Hong Kong from Victoria Peak.
A return ticket costs HK $45 ($6 USD) for an adult and a return ticket with sky terrace admission HK $88. We personally enjoyed the free views.
What to eat in Hong Kong (Hong Kong eats)
1) Dim Sum (點心) - try Tim Ho Wan and local dim sum joints)
2) Siu Mei (燒味) and Char Siu (叉燒) - roasted meat on top of rice
3) Congee (粥) - porridge for breakfast or anytime of day
4) Hong Kong Egg Tarts and other baked goods
5) Afternoon tea at the Peninsula or a cheaper alternative (Lion Rock)
Budget meals in Hong Kong can be had for roughly $3 to $10 in USD per person and fine dining get really expensive.
Afternoon tea can range between $30 to $50 per person in USD.
Things we LOVED about Hong Kong (I love Hong Kong)
1) Most things to do and attractions in Hong Kong are FREE!
2) Dim sum is amazing and also affordable
3) Incredible transportation options (metro, star ferry, tram, etc)
4) Incredible skyline by day or night from various vantage points
5) Dynamic city with a pulse and hustle & bustle unlike any other
6) Easy to escape the city centre and get out in nature
Things we HATED about Hong Kong (I hate Hong Kong)
1) The crazy crowds and population density can really wear you down at times.
2) Worst value accommodations we've experienced in Asia in terms of what you get for the amount of money spent.
3) Nightlife and fine dining can get really expensive
Final Thoughts
Hong Kong is probably the most dynamic city we've ever visited. It is a must visit city and we highly recommend you go at least once your lifetime. We hope to return again soon.

Hi, guys. Thanks a lot for your informative video and especially for the free stuff to do in HK. Btw, I think with a good research, you can find a good hotel to stay at there at a reasonable price. I found a 4-star hotel near Causeway Bay with the price being 100 USD per night. And that`s a 4-star hotel. Looks like a bargain. But, basically, yes, most of them are expensive there.

Accommodations is the most expensive outlay. One can really get by on a budget for virtually everything else, cost of living is surprising low (save for housing!).
I totally agree with you. Transportation is cheap, many attractions are free and you can find good budget eats.

hola,veo Que en este video ,tiene subtítulos en ingles y chino.podrian agregarle en español para los videos futuros?. por otro lado el jueves 8 de nov. llego a Hong Kong pero tengo dudas si para el transporte es mejor el octopus card o comprar pase ilimitado por un dia(incluye bus,tranvia,metro y Ferry). los tranvías solo están en la zona de la isla de Hong Kong? porque en los mapas no ubico tranvías en la zona de Kowloon.saludos
Funny you should mention Chueng King Mansions, (sure I didn't spell that right) My Wife and I stayed there this past July(2017) Yes the room was tiny and there Are Lots of sketchy people hanging around, everyone trying to sell you something. But hey Man-up, it's not like people are attacking you,(kinda) The indian food there is really good, they also had a favorable exchange rate there. P.S the elevators suck !!
You described it well! To be honest we've gone several times for some tasty and inexpensive Indian food.
Enjoyed your videos. You two are a great couple. Next time, i recommend u check Shenzhen, which is just an hr away by MTR. You can live like a king and queen there. Valus for money.

As an American, you may have to sign up with an approved travel agency to go to Schanzen. I don't think China will give you a straight visa to wander around.

Thank you! It should be considerably warmer than when we visited. I'd dress for warm weather but also have some light clothes in case it rains or cools down in the evening.
S Hajar it's becoming very hot and it's the start of the typhoon season. It maybe hot and humid sometimes and rainy and no wind sometimes
Hi! I just wanted to ask how's the public toilet? Is it accessible and clean?
major shopping center toilets are very clean as there are usually a dedicated janitor on standby inside the toilet. And squat toilets are almost extinct unless you go to some really old shopping center.
how about internet connection in hongkong? do you guys having trouble with that or any tips about getting a cheap phone provider?
The internet has always been excellent even when we stayed in cheaper and smaller places in the past. Sorry, no idea about the phone providers.
Windy Witono I'm using CSL in Hong Kong. It provides 5GB of 4G and after 5GB it would be limited to 328kb/s after that. But the data usage is not limited. Its juz cost around 130HKd per month ~ 18-20 USD / 13 pounds per month
FYI, congee is actually pronounced "jok" in Cantonese,
which sounds quite similar to "juk" in Korean.

oh you broke my heart. MTR may be cheap to expats or travelers. Not cheap to locals AT ALL. But our time is priceless though and MTR is 99% more reliable than New York subway
This is very true! The metro systems in many of the big cities in Asia are light years ahead of those in North America.
Oh, I remember the first time that I went to HK about 30 years ago. When the airplane came down to land in the old HK airport, we were about 100' (30m) over an huge housing area (for the low-income people?) Where the landing wheels almost touched their roof. The HK was a tiny area packed with people. I guess the land was very expansive and the buildings were SHOCKING to me. You buy a tiny piece of land and build an building as tall as possible. Meaning all the buildings are candle like. The New Territory is huge and almost nobody living there. At the time, I was young and money was tight. I stayed in YMCA, cheaper, catering to mostly Western people, where it is old and room is average size. I visited a modern Chinese apartment. It was clean but tiny, I recall the bed took 80% of the space. You do not walk in the bedroom, you side step, or walk like a crap. Other than that, I had a good time shopping, sight seeing, eating, etc.

I prefer Kowloon than HKG island, less "crowded" since I tend to stay at the W or Ritz hotels on my last few occasions there. There is the element mall which is directly connected and MTR and the airport express train are connected. Very easy.

far8 u can reach Disney and ocean park both by the subway now. For teens and adults, OP is a better recommendation. For a family trip, Disney would definitely be a better choice.

Are there vegetarian Dim Sum options available?
There are but if the oil they use is lard, is it still considered vegetarian? Therefore, don't believe everything you read or hear. Many vegetarian food used lard as lard is much cheaper than peanut oil for example. Always go to respectable restaurants. The small ones are questionable.
Jeff Leung Lard, in my opinion, is not considered vegetarian. I would assume they have muslim residents and tourists in HK. I wonder how they manage there...Thank you very much for your reply.

Everything I hate in a country is in Hong Kong: raining all the time, conscription, long working hours, and expensive. Same applies for Malaysia and Singapore

Yes, we did at the airport. Locals would tend to dress more in trousers and long-sleeves whereas if you're walking around and it is hot outside I'd recommend shorts and a t-shirt.

Hong Kong is not expensive!! It is actually cheaper than Los Angeles. and most other american cities. And you can eat cheaply if you don't eat like a tourist Also happy hours go to 9pm in Wan Chai, cheap beer. You can get good size hotels in Wan Chai which are much nicer than anything in Los Angeles for 1/2 the price. And who the hell stays at a hostel? Except cheap bastards. If you want a really cheap room go to Mong Kok. And don't ever stay at Chung King Mansions, that place is a shithole with a plethora of drug dealers and other shenanigans. Locals make fun of gweilo who stay there. You have been advised and warned. Taxis are also dirt cheap. MTR is awesome!
Agree with you about food and transportation in terms of finding great value but for nightlife and accommodations I still feel Hong Kong is one of the most expensive cities in the world for what you get.
For the same quality, hk is more expensive than most or even all American cities. I’ve lived in both places. If you go to the same restaurant (e.g Cheesecake Factory) hk prices are at least 50% higher. If you buy a house of the same size, hk is 10 times more expensive than most American cities. True, taxis are cheaper in hk than the us but cars and gas are a lot more expensive in hk than in the us. Cars and gas are about 2 times higher than the us because of taxes.
If you guys think Hong Kong is expensive come to the Cayman Islands 😂😭🤣 Hong Kong sounds way too cheap to me

Not really unfortunately! Either you have the money or suffer here. However, tourists seem to love it regardless, it is a very nice place just very expensive :( and we don’t have a metro system so you need a car
