Traveling for $20 A Day: Delhi, India (The Delhi Belly CHALLENGE)

  • I'm in Delhi, India's capital region, and today I'll try to eat as much street food as I possibly can to complete the never-before-attempted DELHI BELLY CHALLENGE... Is it possible to eat 1,000 rupees worth of INDIAN STREET FOOD in a single day?!
    The food is delicious on the streets, but it's so rich, and often fried. Plus, each dish costs an average of about 30-50 rupees, so it's incredibly difficult to spent that much money in a single day eating exclusively street food, assuming your stomach holds up.

    About Me:
    My name is Kevin Cook. I'm originally from Dallas, TX, but I've been living and traveling in Asia since 2013.
    After graduating from university in 2011 and working a few unfulfilling jobs, I saved enough money to move to Asia and work as a teacher for a few years. That opportunity allowed me to travel around and experience new foods and cultures, and ignited a passion for blogging and making videos.
    Now I travel full-time and make videos with the goal that I can encourage YOU to pursue your own dream of overseas traveling and living.
    If you enjoy watching my videos, you can help me grow my channel by giving my videos a 'thumbs up', leaving a comment, sharing them, and subscribing!
    Thank you :)

    1000 rs a day in india is more then enough to have a standard quality food...
    many people survive whole month in just 6000 rs so imagine the importance of 1000 rs a day...

    • @Hussainpiplodwala
      @Hussainpiplodwala 7 лет назад +11

      TravelerPat in malls and places as such like McDs or Subway u can get a mcd meal for under 250 rs or a 6 inch long sub in 250 rs...now if u go in air conditioned restaurant then u can always have punjabi or gujarati thali(remember this words) in 250 rs or so...basically thali is an indian version of a combo meal in which u get 3-4 chappatis(indian bread), 2 kinds of vegetable, dal, rice, onion as salad and papad(crispy thing just as a side eating thing) and buttermilk...
      it depends on what indian food u eat as mainly there are 3 known food in all over india...i.e south indian food, north indian food and if u want a tasty veg meal like u never had before then a gujarati meal...

    • @Hussainpiplodwala
      @Hussainpiplodwala 7 лет назад

      Ivan Innokenti i doubt that...more than 70 % of population in india lives in small towns and villages...and due to cheap child labour the minimum wage can be 3000 per month also but considering the average, accounting the urban and rural population...6000 it is...
      we own a timber business in which there are like 40 staff members with varying salary...and the highest we pay is 9000 rs to only 5 of them...rest 35 comes under the 6k and 3k wage...:)

      Indian veg food is extremely unhealthy despite being veg. It is very oily. No wonder ischaemic heart disease is a major thing in India.

    • @Sulfen
      @Sulfen 6 лет назад +4

      That's because India had to become mostly vegetarian for survival. So they spent a lot of time coming up with some affordable and amazing vegetarian dishes. In most Western countries vegetarian meals are mostly created to lose weight. So our vegetarian foods tend to be more bland because they're low on sugar, salts, and calories.

    I'm indian-american and wanted to give you guys some pro tips if you travel to India. I'd recommend you take your time to come for a full week or two (you just saw how cheap that can actually be) so you're immune system adjusts to the new and higher amount of bacteria. Boil the water you plan to drink and bottle it or you'll get sick, even if you order water at high end restaurants. After about a week you can begin to eat street food as opposed to restaurants and be a little less cautious about the water. Even my family members that didn't leave India till they were 30 have to do this when they visit otherwise they get sick for their entire visit.

      Duffer Man - we didn't survive 20,000+ years as a species and dominate the planet by being fragile or requiring a pristine environment, something doctors don't want you to figure out. On the other hand, it is unrealistic to think the world will stop changing and that we won't be just fossils in a million years that some other creature is studying

      The one you are taking about is probably Kerala. Its famous for seafood. Meat is more expensive so you don't see small roadside vendors sell them. However if you go to any Hotel or Restaurant, You can order Meat dishes like Chicken or Mutton. (Pork and Beef aren't sold in India).

      Richard Vocal our economic condition is not very good as yours and neither our population is getting lesser so we all indians are trying to be happy with what we have...and our digestive systems are not sensitive. if people can eat raw fish in sushi then we can eat the things what other people touch and these foods are not preffered by everyone.. just people who can't afford the restaurant bills and the people who wants to taste the authenticity of the dish prefer this. i myself haven't tasted many of the streetfood but hey? am not freaking out.. its once choice no one is forcing u.. and yeah before commenting or judging put yourself at their place.. your journey in life is different than their's .. not everyone is blessed with a good fortune.. they save every penny to run their home.. if they are giving you such dishes at this rate then please don't expect much? if you will pay them 10 times extra then they will serve you with all the hygiene....

    All people talking about hygeine, its a streetfood and sellers are poor why? uneducated... You can get same thing for above that price in a nice hotel with way proper hygeine but guess what then you have to pay more, it wont be dirt cheap and i can tell you nowhere else you can find that cheap currently i am in toronto.

      what do you tend to eat day to day? are there certain stalls which tend to be better than others that you'd eat from?

      abeer msh Why only sweets other street foods are unhygeinic too. You never purchased pani puri or aalo tikki from the street?

    • @kartikarora111
      @kartikarora111 7 лет назад +16

      Sam Allen Yes there are many stalls and shops that offer more hygeinic food.But the cost is a little bit more.
      In India most people cook at home everyday 3 times a day. We eat outside occasionally.

      sam allen we actually prefer eating home cooked food of our mother.My mom even doesn't allows me to eat street food.Eating street food is rare occasion when we go out.We buy our sweets from very expensive shops where for $7, u wl get only 15 sweets.And every indian knows that if you eat more than one steet food in the single day,you wl suffer from stomach problem.So basically all indians eat home cooked foid and if that is not available they go to some standard restaurant to eat food.
      The way the man in the video is eating,if we eat so much,i wl suffer from stomach problems till next day.

    • @nishantjain4733
      @nishantjain4733 6 лет назад

      GRRRLTRAVELER | Christine Kaaloa is also here ...
      Ill tell u why the food is cheap ..
      The reason is this video was shot in laxmi nagar area which is the Factory of Chartered Accountants pursuing students coming as far as from Nepal from various walks of life. . Usually poor to middle class who have to thrive on an avg exp of Rs 5,000 monthly which is very difficult ...
      So the food is. Cheap without any Rental Premises , disposable plates etc and a little less quantity ... hygiene wise it is ok ... however one might get obviously sick due to lack of civic maintenance and over crowding rather than the same food being sold in a sprawing alley

      boom bob People around the world have different customs. Like in Italy if your fat you are considered rich. Or if you were to burp after finishing a meal in Greece is like saying thank you to the chef. Not everyone has the same customs, or they don't think to much about hygiene. I wouldn't mind, if you don't like it just say please just point at it.

      whats wrong with it man, u sld know that 90% Indians eat with hands, we hav custom that we wash hands clean before and after eating. this ways hands will be cleaned min. 6 to 8 times a day which is more hygeinic than westerners i guess. u can get to know how hot food is so that u will not burn ur tongue.
      i want to ask one thing, do u eat pizza, donut or a burger with spoon?
