Hey Mr Cook.. I'm the Chinese guy who's been translating your videos in China, just wanna say hi and wish you experience all the best that China has to offer.
I live in Shanghai for more than 2 years, my twin brother has lived here for 16 years ... it is a great city .. you could have gone to Cental Park for the day for 5 rmb and still have 2 rmb left ... GREAT VIDEO
Great video, Kevin, and what an awesome series idea. Budget traveling tips that we can actually witness are so helpful and interesting. I'd love to see a South Korean edition! :)
I need to learn some mandarin, but I am definitely going to travel to china sometime soon - I want to see shanghai, but I also want to head to guilin and if possible see the avatar mountains if I have time
egg fried rice and ond beer for 30 RMB is very very very expensive. egg fried rice is very simple dish. only fried rice what cost? I think the highest 10RMB.
I recommend the Islam food for the fried rice. Very cheap at around 10 yuan. I miss Shanghai! Looking forward to coming back. That's the same hostel I stayed at Wuning Road North Kaixuan Road,Putuo District. I miss that place, same old reception guy I've met last November. I remember I'm given a card there to activate the light and airconditioner.
Awesome Kevin - 2 videos in a month! Many times, the Chinese I meet Insist on paying for our meals together - you are a young, tall, "good looking" white guy, so my guess is that you receive very favorable treatment in China. I love those giant baozi; very tasty and only 3 RMB; I'm sure it's all healthy ingredients (right). Next time, add some qiezi/eggplant for an extra couple kuai.
+DavidisDawei That's a great idea. I actually passed plenty of veggie stalls; next time I'll make a point of stopping and buying some greens I can snack on. Thanks for your support, David!
This is Chinese culture for treat friends from outside of the city for the meal . Hope you have more Chinese friends . Kind people always popular and lovely !
Hey, you know you are famous in Chinese Internet World now, prepare for lots of coming Chinese comments, LOL. Nice video and idea! BTW, you should give Tokyo a try!
Udon Thani, Thailand is an interesting place to travel to. It is in north eastern Thailand close by the Lao border. It is considered to be the poor region of Thailand. I've lived there for about six months and it was amazing. They have night markets that offer all kinds of food. One of my favorite dishes was a salted flat fish that is cooked on a BBQ that came with a brown, nutty sauce with a side of noodles. It didn't cost more than four dollars to feed the three of us. You channel is awesome. It makes me want to travel more.
It's all about how you spend the money. actually Shanghai is one of the most expensive city in the world... 20 dollars could be enough for a day, but it might not even enough for you to take a cab...lol
Great stuff, Kevin! I am looking forward to new videos. Next month I will go to study in Beijing for a whole semester. This will be exciting. Thinking about doing some vids while I am there too.
Hi man, I've been watching alot of ur China videos and I love them. I'm 16 years old and I've been accepted for one year to China. I just wanted to ask you some tips or the mindset I should have while in China because I really look forward to appreciate the good side of this culture since I'm staying for a year. Thanks for the vids, they're great :)
+disneycrazii Thanks for watching! I have posted a schedule of when I'll make new 20 Dollar Travel videos and Beijing won't be until July. Check out the schedule on my blog here: monkeyabroad.com/20-dollar-traveling-video-series-2016-schedule/
Hey really liked your video there. I also stayed there in Shanghai for over 2 years before. I do think you are only able to spend that less money because you speak Chinese. The idea for the series sounds amazing. I would like to see you spending a whole day with just 20 dollars in Tokyo or Hong Kong. Keep up the work
Maybe try Fiji, Australia, New Zealand ... Antarctica or Tasmania. ...The Cook Islands ...Easter Island Go Tropical! But I'll watch anywhere you go! Love your videos!
Beverly Hills, Ca. - Milan, Italy - New York, NY - Sydney, AUS - Hong Kong, China .....more like twenty dollars per minute, good luck. I subscribed and clicked thumbs up.
Whats about Moscow? I think u could try. But it would be difficult tho. Liked it so much. Thanks for video Kevin. Your operator has an awesome hairdo! 😀
+Life Is Beautiful Hahah, yeah people were staring at his hair all day long. I hear Moscow is pretty cheap so it's definitely a possibility. Thanks so much for watching.
That's it, I'm subscribing. Watched your videos occasionally before, but this was a very educational one. I'm the only member of my family to have never visited (the motherland, 4 generations removed) China. But your videos are showing me that it's not as daunting of an experience that it has to be! +Terry Bird Thanks, Terry! Stay classy sir
Try 20 dollars in Australia, you should assume eating and sleeping with kangaroos.
What's wrong with sleeping with kangaroos?
I am kidding mate. Australia has the highest CPI in at least the southern hemisphere.
viewsPref That's true. I am currently studying in Australia and the expenditure is huge even in relatively small city such as Brisbane.
viewsPref boi buy a 12$ sleeping bag at kmart which works suprisingly well and eat mcdonalds. when the day is over camp next to the mall
Great video, Kevin, and what an awesome series idea. Budget traveling tips that we can actually witness are so helpful and interesting.

grumfeld van der spooijwanker It's Shanghai, everything is expensive there.
xiaoqi xu i live in shanghai, he couldve got more than a boring 蛋炒饭 for that price, restaurants are always more expensive around peoples square
You've got good taste in hip hop beats. That's part of the reason I watch these videos.

Great video, I really enjoyed it. The cheap prices makes me jealous, New York is so expensive :( Anyways so happy you uploaded ^_^
+Crystalized Sirenity Thank you so much for watching. Do you think it'd be possible to do 20 dollar traveling in NYC?
Kevin Cook No unless you have a place to stay. Then it's just meals and travel fee. Bus fare is already $2.75 alone.
Awesome Kevin - 2 videos in a month!
Many times, the Chinese I meet Insist on paying for our meals together - you are a young, tall, "good looking" white guy, so my guess is that you receive very favorable treatment in China.

the hostel was like half of your budget and dinner was relatively expensive compared to the other expenses!
I know right it's too bad he didn't keep everything under $20.

+disneycrazii Thanks for watching! I have posted a schedule of when I'll make new 20 Dollar Travel videos and Beijing won't be until July. Check out the schedule on my blog here: monkeyabroad.com/20-dollar-traveling-video-series-2016-schedule/

That's it, I'm subscribing. Watched your videos occasionally before, but this was a very educational one. I'm the only member of my family to have never visited (the motherland, 4 generations removed) China. But your videos are showing me that it's not as daunting of an experience that it has to be! Thanks for that :)
My only question though ... as a visible minority foreigner, have you noticed a difference between how you're treated and that of foreigners of East Asian ancestry?
+goshadowkenny Thanks so much for watching! But I'm not quite sure I understand your question.
+Monkey Abroad - Sorry if I was unclear. +Nomad Family Okay I'll consider it! Sounds like a real challenge
It literally took me forever to track you down cos they only show like part of your video. KEEP IT UP!! ❤️💚💜 much love and support to your video.
