      So true, F1 journalists missed great opportunities with Lauda bc Niki is a straight shooter and doesn’t bullshit. He was a great interview waiting to happen and it never did. I understand why it is tho bc F1 controls access and if you piss them off you’re finished covering F1.

      That’s the European in him. VERY practical. Including his contract. He knew what he brought to the table. Many of the F1 drivers are egocentric. As they should be! Every time they race their life is on the line. But he understands why people do this... he dropped everything to be a driver. He understands the outcasts, the rogue drivers... one of a kind.

Then started to see the things my dad was saying, then I remembered that Alonso's Renault cap he gave me in '07... Nowadays i love F1. This Guy passed through some shit. Senna (the Idol in Brazil for decades, and the whole world, the same) also died doing his stuff and he knew the risks, and took every one of them, until his death.

      1 and I do mean 1 problem...
      Nico was more upset about Lewis being more interesed in destroying a friendship for (fake) titles and didn't want to be a child to compete..
      He tried and messed up, trying to play mind games with JB... JB owned him on and off track. Lewis couldn't win.. Lewis jumped and lucked in...
      "Why has @JensonButton unfollowed me on Twitter?" .... In public!!! (low class move)
      JB's reply.. "Mate, I never followed you to unfollow you!" (Boom. Job done.)
      Hamilton deleted the tweet and he's been deleting tweets ever since... Max V and Red Bull throughout last yr... At least 4 deletions that I know off.
      Merc's social media cover up jobs, is a full time job.. lolol
      Niki never had friends.. How can you ask someone about Karting mates, through to F1?

Stop talking crap, Hamilton got informatiom before he decided, he knew Mercedes was going to rule. He's superb on track, and can make good bussiness decisions. Sure there was talk of Mercedes engines but it was still just hear-say at the time. The problem for Nico was Hamilton partied all week, rocked up saturday and sticks it on pole. Nico had to train hard and spend hours in the simulator to be even close. Another year of seriously hard work to fight a motivated Hamilton and not devote time to family was too much. Respect to Rosberg for winning a title but he was also helped by unreliability on the other side of the garage that might not happen the next year.

    Nico set out to win the title, he had an all time great in Hamilton driving the same car and he did it. Nico beat the quickest driver (currently) in the world and proved himself a worthy champion. I dont know how much people know about the focus and dedication it takes firstly to get to formula 1, but to be consistently at the top of the sport consumes all parts of your life, it requires such huge motivation that theres not much time or energy left for other things in life. I truly believe that Nico wouldnt be able to raise a family and continue challenging for titles, either one or the other (more likely both) parts of his life would have to be neglected in some way. To me it looks like he wants to be there for his wife and for his kids growing up. I respect and admire that 1000% and think people should applaud him. He will always be a champion and im guessing hes probably earnt enough so that he wont really need to work again. Good luck to him.

    I am privileged to have watched this interview. Such raw truth in the discussion about the Catalunya crash with Rosberg.
    I have to say, as a Hamilton fan, I was very mad about Rosberg driving my driver off of the track. But after hearing Niki Lauda blame Hamilton outright has made me apply a different scenario on the accident. I placed myself in Rosberg's shoe's. I wouldn't have done anything different. Hamilton went for it, Rosberg blocked, tragedy followed.

    I just took a look at the Spain accident. Putting myself in Rosberg's mind, I think he knew that Hamilton was going to make a move and had his eyes in his mirrors. The split second he felt Hamilton was going to go right, Rosberg threw his car right. I don't think Hamilton felt Nico was going to make such a drastic move so being committed, he had to throw is car off the road. After that, momentum and a lack of traction where in control.
    Fault? I have never seen a driver throw that kind of block on an overtaking driver and Hamilton couldn't change direction at that point so an accident was inevitable. I don't think Nico's move was very sportsmanlike but he only made one move so it wasn't illegal. Hamilton was just making a pass.

    • @fuji1990
      @fuji1990 7 лет назад +8

      JB91710 Hamilton and the likes of Verstappen make defensive moves like that themselves on a weekly basis, its called racing. Hamilton deliberately forced Rosberg off track at USA 2015 and everyone loved it because its hard racing. Its only certain Hamilton fans not F1 fans who have a problem with it when its done to their driver

    • @mzeusk13

      JB91710 just watch what Verstappen did to Raikkonen at Kemmel straight. Ver. was doing double move a lot in the first year, in a way he did it, when the other car is so close, it's really dangerous, so FIA put a rule against it, then changed it in 2017. But no double moves from anybody.

    I think that assessment of Lewis being at fault for causing the crash was correct. It was the 1st round and Lewis was too aggressive there. Rosberg had the right of way but he also drove his teammate into the grass. Lewis slid hit the wall span and came back slamming onto Rosberg's car. Team Mercedes out right at the 1st circuit. Telling Lewis separately why he did not attack Rosberg on the outside while the low power light was on is a sign that Niki Lauda favors Lewis.

    Interesting comments about the Lewis / Rosberg crash.
    I watched the race live on TV and Niki gave a live interview after the race were he said the two team mates crashing was NOT acceptable and it was both of their fault, and then added in the next breath that he felt that it was more of Rosberg’s fault than Lewis’s.
    Now in this interview he is saying that it was Lewis’s fault for trying to overtake on the wrong side.
    This is really interesting because his attitude with Lewis was to say...
    “look Lewis, Niko’s car was having trouble and was underpowered and you could see that from the flashing red light on the back of his car, as a world champion you should have known Nico would react that way and it was your responsibility to chose to overtake on the other side where Nico could not have defended, so the crash was your fault”
    [In other words he could have avoided a crash and still overtaken Rosberg.]
    .....
    Now that really is amazing insight and wisdom.

    • @chrisl4281
      @chrisl4281 5 лет назад

      He is saying they were both to blame. Ultimately though Nico knew after he won the championship his life in F1 was too toxic and finished. Hamilton knew that Rosberg could not endure him for another season in the same way that last season unfolded. Far too much drama. Nico had used up all his mental energy in winning one championship by playing games, Hamilton preferred to use his energy on the race track.

    Niki is right rosberg shouldve told the team about his retirement plane earlier cause they had to carefully an quickly hand pick there 2017 driver an that driver was the same driver that cost the mercedes team a 1-2 in Bahrain of 2016, costing lewis the win. if lewis hamilton won the 2016 F1 championship then nico wouldve stayed on the team an keep fighting lewis until he wins a season, i mean he only retired for 1.) he wanted to be what his father was a 1x f1 champion an he did after fighting lewis since 2014. an 2.) he misses his family like the only time he visits his family was on in 3 week race times, mid-season an after the champion.

      Nico Rosberg advised the MB team of his retirement after winning the F1 WC at the final race of the season in November. Niki Lauda, as a member of MB team management, was upset with Rosberg's unexpected decision. However, I find it unfortunate that he would criticize Rosberg for doing the same thing he did in 1979. During that season's Canadian GP in Sept, Lauda came into the pits during a practice session and announced that he was retiring immediately from the Brabham team with two races remaining on the schedule. Never the less, IMO, Lauda remains the most important personality in F1 history.
