Always Fly with a Tennis Ball in Your Carry-On

- Whether you’re getting around by car, train, or plane, traveling can be uncomfortable and inconvenient, even if you love it. Your flight can get delayed by a lot. Sitting in close quarters for a long flight can slow blood circulation and cause the muscles to cramp. Your ears can pop during take-off and landing. So pay attention to some tips that will make your next trip a breeze!
For example, make sure you have an empty water bottle in your carry-on. That way, you can get past security with no problem and then just fill the bottle up at the airport. Most have drinking fountains, so you’ll save some cash!

SUMMARY:
- If you take 1 or 2 tennis balls with you on the plane, you can use them as little massagers to relieve and prevent that pain. Roll it along your ankles, calves, legs, wrists, back, and shoulders.
- Chewing on some gum actually keeps your ears from popping during take-off and landing.
- A trash bag or two will be a lifesaver when you come out of the airport at your destination only to be met by…rain!
- The dryer sheets will keep your garments smelling fresh and clean like they’ve come straight from the laundry.
- If your luggage is marked as “Fragile,” it should be handled more carefully by baggage personnel. Plus, it’ll likely be put on top of the other bags.
- Grab a binder clip and clamp it onto the blades of your razor when you pack. This will save you from any accidental-and painful-injuries.
- You don’t need to go out and buy expensive and flashy luggage. Use a plain basic suitcase and tie a bright ribbon around one of the handles.
- When you’re packing, wrap your shoes up in shower caps. This will prevent the bottoms from dirtying the rest of your clothes.
- Whether you’re flying or driving, keep all your chargers and power cords in a good-sized sunglasses case.
- You know those pill containers with little boxes for each day of the week? They’re also a great way to store and organize your jewelry when you’re traveling.
- Keep your shirt collars nice and crisp by lining them with a belt.
- Most airlines provide a pillow and blanket so that passengers can get a nap in during the flight. Take that little pillow and put it behind your lower back.
- If you’re going to be switching time zones, start making changes to your sleep pattern the day before you leave.
- The air inside airplane cabins tends to be very dry. Drink plenty of water, or another drink that contains electrolytes, to prevent dehydration.

You saved my precious 9 minutes. Thanks.

Lol thank you
I can confirm I have a cape on my person at all times.
As a former baggage handler, I can assure you that there isn’t a sticker in existence that is going to save your checked baggage from rough handling. My advice? Buy hard-sided, high-quality suitcases. If you must have wheels, make sure they’re integrated into the bag and not riveted to it. You’ll thank me when you still have wheels when you need them.
Ok! Thats great if you put a laptop in checked baggage. Btw,are you supposed to put gadgets in checked luggage? Or is it better to put it in carry on?
Thanks bright side 😃😃😃😃
@@iris-needs-more-history-books It's better to put electronic items in carry on.
Use your clothes to pad fragile items, and put them in the CENTER of your suitcase for maximum cushioning.
If you’re taking any liquids with you, put it in a Ziploc bag, and then put that bag inside another Ziploc bag. Yup, double bag it, or you may be doing laundry as soon as you get to your destination.
By the way, in case you haven’t been on a plane since 2001, almost NO full water bottles allowed through security
AND Each passenger may carry liquids, gels and aerosols in travel-size containers that are 3.4 ounces or100 milliliters. Each passenger is limited to one quart (1 liter) size bag of liquids, gels and aerosols. Remember to make it a Ziploc bag!
Agreed.
I bring a beach ball and inflate it to put on my little table to lean forward to sleep on. It works really well!
That sounds like a brilliant idea.
@@jen9774 Yes!
It's not the saliva produced from chewing gum that causes your ears to pop, it's the motion of your jaw. The motion causes your eustachian tubes (tubes running between your middle ears and nasal cavity/upper throat) to open, allowing for an equalization of pressure. If jaw motion does not clear your ears (equalize the pressure) when taking off or landing, you can try the Valsalva maneuver. Close your mouth, plug your nose, and try to forcefully exhale. This works well when flying with a slight cold. Don't fly with a heavy cold, not only will you make everyone around you sick, you stand a decent chance of blowing out your eardrums or a sinus cavity. I've done both, and they are pretty much not fun.
Or push the small flap on the front of your ear in, to cover the ear canal. Apply pressure and release. This can help pop your own ears.
Also forceful swallowing, like gulping down saliva caused from the chewing gum, or even a beverage, can help to re-normalize the pressure between your sinuses, ears and mouth.
Can confirm-flying with a bad cold is not fun. That said, I had no other choice, otherwise I would have been stuck in China without the rest of my group until I could fly home. 0/10 do not recommend.
When my kids were little I’d give them a bottle during take off and landing to keep the ears open.
Taking decongestant med before the flight really helped when I had a cold.
I put a BIG bright RED fluffy type ball made of light yarn on my luggage. (its a DIY trick) I also pack many things in zip lock baggies to keep them from leaking or exploding onto other items. Then I pack extra baggies (in case that happens) Also take a gallon size baggie or small trash bag for wet bathing suits that may not have had time to dry.
I roll our bathing suits in a ShamWow, then in a plastic bag.
The pillow case idea and trash bag one are brilliant.
I once walked to the front of the airplane to use the bathroom and looking back I saw row after row of open O shaped mouths as everyone slept. The stewardess and I made eye contact and silently laughed, it was hilarious. So I take a wide brimmed hat with me to cover my head so I don't look like part of a vast wac-a-mole game.
The tennis ball is in case you happen to land somewhere and there’s a dog outside, waiting to play fetch
That's what I thought when I clicked on this video
No take only throw.
😂😂:-):-)
Yas! Haha
Lol
Yawning clears your popped ears much more effectively than swallowing. The action you're trying to produce is an opening of two small channels that go between your ear and your mouth. If you practice it, you can open them at will.
Yea, you can do it without moving your jaw. But it's less effective than blowing while keeping your nose closed.
My parents tell me to swallow my saliva
Going to the airport these days will make everyone want to put a belt around their necks. It starts with the security checkpoints and long lines and then missing a connecting flight due to delays with the first flight. Now you end up sleeping at the airport. By sleep I mean a few hours and then you are told to move for the cleaning crew. The worst part is that you paid for this experience.
Sounds like what happened to me in Toronto. Lol
The one thing that might defeat the purpose of bringing a tennis ball to massage yourself on the flight is that security guards might want to double x-ray or cut it open to see if you were smuggling drugs
Good lock passing that razor thru Customs ...🤣🤣🤣🤣
It wont matter in checked luggage. You don't have access to it.
@@dyinhope6840 it was in his carry on
These are really great travel tips! Thanks for posting!
Another point about packing clothes: use one of those garbage bags to hold your dirty clothes until you can wash them. This keeps them separate from clean clothes as you travel from point to point. Also, if space in your bags is very limited, fold your dirty clothes and place them into those garbage bags very carefully. Folded clothes take up less space.
Zip lock bags are very useful. I always pack liquids in 'em, and extras for emergencies. Ice packs, water bags, anything to do with liquids. And they make good storage for soiled items.
@@kwillow12 I do the same thing.
As someone who used to work in the airline industry
The fragile one is bs
They have 5-10 minutes to load an airplane
They’re going to throw it either way.
Mark, I came here to make a similar comment...I lived over seas for years (back and forth between Greece and Canada, 2 years of that was every 6 weeks 😫)and have otherwise traveled extensively, so I can attest to that first hand... One trip, I actually spoke to a person directly when checking my bags and stated one of my pieces of luggage had a fragile piece in it, she told me to mark the bag and it would be good...well, I swear that having a fragile label on it made them toss it around even harder...the 2 other bags were great and the “fragile” one looked like it was attached TO the plane and wasn’t IN the plane 🤦♀️😂.... Not to mention, if everybody followed that advise, there would be too many fragile bags and it would end up on the bottom anyhow!!! hahahaha 🤣😂🤣😂
SAME AS MAIL FOR THE POST OFFICE
Marking luggage or a parcel as fragile will mean 'play football with it' to the luggage handlers.
I've worked in the airline industry too. That is ancient advice. I stopped marking my luggage wih " Fragile" signs eons ago. What I heard was that the ones with the "Fragile" signs get thrown harder.
Just like the post office!!they trow Mothers Day flowers around!!
Thank you for these instructive and entertaining video !
A couple of things we do is bring plenty of antibacterial wipes for wiping down tray tables and armrests in our seats. We often get odd looks but I don't care. Those areas are disgusting and never cleaned by the airlines. Besides having something to change into in the carry on, we also have flip-flops for wearing in the hotel room. Never walk around barefoot anywhere in your hotel room nor take showers without them.
I carry a baby crib sheet to put over the seat (the head rest is the dirtiest place on the plane according to research), a blanket scarf, disinfectant wipes, and hand sanitizer. I get a few odd looks, but a few people thought it was a great idea.
Some excellent reminders for my packing list! Thank you!!
I’m going to Singapore in December, I appreciate this video.
The tip about tying a ribbon or putting stickers on your bags really works well. My mum used to tie a length of yarn to the handle of each bag. Plus, her Pullman suitcase had a ton of stickers from the first time we went to Europe, so we never had a problem claiming our luggage. We did have our suitcases sent to Rome instead of Berlin in 1972, but we got them back, so no harm done.
😀😀😀
😊😊 love your videos
Remember gang, always, I repeat, always put a paper clamp on all your razor blades and you're good to go, that is straight to the off site security search and pat down room.

5:46 "Most airlines provide a pillow and blanket..." Right here I checked to see if this video is more than 15 years stale. Nope. It's only 4 days new. **Flash news** Most airlines do not provide a pillow and blanket.
Airlines do provide blankets and pillows for long haul flights.
I always get pyjamas and slippers as well.
They do for long haul flights. Quite common there
Most airlines these days only provide seats because of seatbelts rules. Coach passengers, anyway
And they only provide an Isle to get you underneath the required seat belt as well.

I love Propel, great taste and electrolytes. Freeze the night before and u can board a plane with ice, when it's melting you have water for your flight.
But what if it's started melting in between leaving your freezer and going through security?
3 of us stayed two nights at the Monaco marriot. Though we'd been told all meals would be included when we arrived we learned it was only breakfast and lunch. We took turns sneaking tons of breakfast buffet food to the room. This was fairly easy since we went to the pool pretty much first thing and had massive beach towels from home to carefully cover up our I'll gotten gains.
Another good reason to back extra zip-lock bags in you luggage.

Great tips to travel :)
As far as marking your bags fragile, I read the baggage guys tend to throw those bags twice as hard. If you want to protect your stuff, put on a sticker that says "I love baggage handlers". And an envelope with some 1s inside wouldn't hurt either. Those guys don't get tipped often.
"Caution. Live fire ants and hornets. Handle with care. "

1:57 That's why all of my luggage bags are water-proofed. Frankly, I always travel as light as I can. I only take one carry-on luggage and one backpack, even on 10-day oversea trips.
If ur business will pay, or you can afford, fedx it overnight to hotel or office, especially golf clubs!
1:02 "...keeps your ears from popping during takeoff and landing." What's that, again? It is just the opposite. Chewing helps allow your ears to 'pop' during climb and may help your ears to 'pop' during descent, facilitating in both cases equalization of air pressure on both sides of the eardrum by keeping the eustachian tube open.
Yes, I heard it as well. It's the opposite indeed.
I learnt something new today! :D
These are all great tips. Years ago, I felt so sorry for this little girl who was really hurting because of her ears. I mean you could tell--it was one of those "I hurt" cries. not just because she was bored or cranky. My mum offered some gum, but she was just a bit too young to bew chewing gum . When her mum talked to the stewardess, she got ahold of the captain who was able to bring the plane down to around 25,000 feet--it worked.
If you don't have gum with you on a plane, yawning helps with the pressure in your ears. My mum always tried to have a few pieces of bubble gum for me if I had trouble with my ears (fortunatunately, my ears do pop, but thus far no pain), but when she didn't, yawning worked fine for me.
Or push your ear lugs in to cover your ear canals, apply a bit of pressure and release, simple.

Some of this advice is useful, even if you're not flying. BTW, hearing someone chewing their gum near you can sound really obnoxious. Especially if you're stuck sitting there for a long period of time.
Hey there! Former ramp agent and ops agent for one of the bigger commercial carriers. Some additional tidbits:
7) "Fragile" tags are plentiful and don't really have the same effect they used to. When every bag is marked "fragile", none get special treatment.
9) Ribbons and bows can make your bag stand out, but they also get caught on belt loaders and other bags in the plane's bag compartment. It can and has led to damage to baggage itself.
16) Early flights are the cleanest flights because the Overnights get the deep clean, where a flight that has been going on all day just gets the trash cans emptied.
17) Despite common sense, eating a big lunch will actually expand your stomach and make you even hungrier during later meals
20) Increased pressure altitude dulls taste buds, so everything tastes bland. Snacks are oversalted and seasoned just to have the same taste- another reason to avoid snacks and juices.
Bonus: The air used to pressurize the cabin is bled from the air going through the engine during cruise.
21 remember to bring a pet cages if someone keep accidentally knocking you just cramp inside the cages
FINALLY SUBSCRIBED TO YOU!
The bean tip at the end was worth a like.
You feel dirty after flying because airplanes and airports are gross....
And you are around a lot of people you don't know in a considerably small area when on the plane
Feel dirty after being groped by TSA.
A fragile sticker might make your suitcase a target. 😂
