It's not the saliva produced from chewing gum that causes your ears to pop, it's the motion of your jaw. The motion causes your eustachian tubes (tubes running between your middle ears and nasal cavity/upper throat) to open, allowing for an equalization of pressure. If jaw motion does not clear your ears (equalize the pressure) when taking off or landing, you can try the Valsalva maneuver. Close your mouth, plug your nose, and try to forcefully exhale. This works well when flying with a slight cold. Don't fly with a heavy cold, not only will you make everyone around you sick, you stand a decent chance of blowing out your eardrums or a sinus cavity. I've done both, and they are pretty much not fun.
Also forceful swallowing, like gulping down saliva caused from the chewing gum, or even a beverage, can help to re-normalize the pressure between your sinuses, ears and mouth.

As a former baggage handler, I can assure you that there isn’t a sticker in existence that is going to save your checked baggage from rough handling. My advice? Buy hard-sided, high-quality suitcases. If you must have wheels, make sure they’re integrated into the bag and not riveted to it. You’ll thank me when you still have wheels when you need them.
Use your clothes to pad fragile items, and put them in the CENTER of your suitcase for maximum cushioning. If you’re taking any liquids with you, put it in a Ziploc bag, and then put that bag inside another Ziploc bag. Yup, double bag it, or you may be doing laundry as soon as you get to your destination. By the way, in case you haven’t been on a plane since 2001, almost NO full water bottles allowed through security AND Each passenger may carry liquids, gels and aerosols in travel-size containers that are 3.4 ounces or100 milliliters. Each passenger is limited to one quart (1 liter) size bag of liquids, gels and aerosols. Remember to make it a Ziploc bag!

A couple of things we do is bring plenty of antibacterial wipes for wiping down tray tables and armrests in our seats. We often get odd looks but I don't care. Those areas are disgusting and never cleaned by the airlines. Besides having something to change into in the carry on, we also have flip-flops for wearing in the hotel room. Never walk around barefoot anywhere in your hotel room nor take showers without them.
I carry a baby crib sheet to put over the seat (the head rest is the dirtiest place on the plane according to research), a blanket scarf, disinfectant wipes, and hand sanitizer. I get a few odd looks, but a few people thought it was a great idea.
I put a BIG bright RED fluffy type ball made of light yarn on my luggage. (its a DIY trick) I also pack many things in zip lock baggies to keep them from leaking or exploding onto other items. Then I pack extra baggies (in case that happens) Also take a gallon size baggie or small trash bag for wet bathing suits that may not have had time to dry.
As someone who used to work in the airline industry The fragile one is bs They have 5-10 minutes to load an airplane They’re going to throw it either way.
Mark, I came here to make a similar comment...I lived over seas for years (back and forth between Greece and Canada, 2 years of that was every 6 weeks 😫)and have otherwise traveled extensively, so I can attest to that first hand... One trip, I actually spoke to a person directly when checking my bags and stated one of my pieces of luggage had a fragile piece in it, she told me to mark the bag and it would be good...well, I swear that having a fragile label on it made them toss it around even harder...the 2 other bags were great and the “fragile” one looked like it was attached TO the plane and wasn’t IN the plane 🤦♀️😂.... Not to mention, if everybody followed that advise, there would be too many fragile bags and it would end up on the bottom anyhow!!! hahahaha 🤣😂🤣😂
I've worked in the airline industry too. That is ancient advice. I stopped marking my luggage wih " Fragile" signs eons ago. What I heard was that the ones with the "Fragile" signs get thrown harder.
Going to the airport these days will make everyone want to put a belt around their necks. It starts with the security checkpoints and long lines and then missing a connecting flight due to delays with the first flight. Now you end up sleeping at the airport. By sleep I mean a few hours and then you are told to move for the cleaning crew. The worst part is that you paid for this experience.
Yawning clears your popped ears much more effectively than swallowing. The action you're trying to produce is an opening of two small channels that go between your ear and your mouth. If you practice it, you can open them at will.
The tip about tying a ribbon or putting stickers on your bags really works well. My mum used to tie a length of yarn to the handle of each bag. Plus, her Pullman suitcase had a ton of stickers from the first time we went to Europe, so we never had a problem claiming our luggage. We did have our suitcases sent to Rome instead of Berlin in 1972, but we got them back, so no harm done.
Hey there! Former ramp agent and ops agent for one of the bigger commercial carriers. Some additional tidbits: 7) "Fragile" tags are plentiful and don't really have the same effect they used to. When every bag is marked "fragile", none get special treatment. 9) Ribbons and bows can make your bag stand out, but they also get caught on belt loaders and other bags in the plane's bag compartment. It can and has led to damage to baggage itself. 16) Early flights are the cleanest flights because the Overnights get the deep clean, where a flight that has been going on all day just gets the trash cans emptied. 17) Despite common sense, eating a big lunch will actually expand your stomach and make you even hungrier during later meals 20) Increased pressure altitude dulls taste buds, so everything tastes bland. Snacks are oversalted and seasoned just to have the same taste- another reason to avoid snacks and juices. Bonus: The air used to pressurize the cabin is bled from the air going through the engine during cruise.
As far as marking your bags fragile, I read the baggage guys tend to throw those bags twice as hard. If you want to protect your stuff, put on a sticker that says "I love baggage handlers". And an envelope with some 1s inside wouldn't hurt either. Those guys don't get tipped often.

These are all great tips. Years ago, I felt so sorry for this little girl who was really hurting because of her ears. I mean you could tell--it was one of those "I hurt" cries. not just because she was bored or cranky. My mum offered some gum, but she was just a bit too young to bew chewing gum . When her mum talked to the stewardess, she got ahold of the captain who was able to bring the plane down to around 25,000 feet--it worked. If you don't have gum with you on a plane, yawning helps with the pressure in your ears. My mum always tried to have a few pieces of bubble gum for me if I had trouble with my ears (fortunatunately, my ears do pop, but thus far no pain), but when she didn't, yawning worked fine for me.
I customized my luggage fully and some woman still tried to say it was her stuff! I showed her my name on it and she tried to call for security saying that I was trying to rob her. She was a crazy lady trying to take off with my luggage. Comes to find out, her luggage bag was black and mine was a Calvin Kline one with rainbow guard straps and robins. You still have to keep an eye out for crazy thieves.
Same thing happened to me in Brazil where a guy tried to leave with my bag that was clearly identified with my name with gold sharpie all over it... A clear attempt of theft.
Remember gang, always, I repeat, always put a paper clamp on all your razor blades and you're good to go, that is straight to the off site security search and pat down room.
Cut a plastic straw to the half size length of a necklace. Put one end through it then fasten the clasp. This prevents the chain from becoming tangled.
When I was in University our student assistant who was a PhD candidate for International Tourism said you should definitely NOT label your baggage as "Fragile". The baggage handlers are going to play dodge ball with it.
Some of this advice is useful, even if you're not flying. BTW, hearing someone chewing their gum near you can sound really obnoxious. Especially if you're stuck sitting there for a long period of time.
I find using Press N Seal over the tops of cosmetic / shampoo bottles, toothpaste, perfume etc keeps the liquid safely inside...take any caps off- put the plastic over the top and return the caps- it's been a life saver to prevent spillage even when the items are in a plastic bag. 😀
After accomodating all his recommendations in my carry-on and with no space left, I ended up buying a new bag and then paying extra for checking it in. Thank you Bright Side.
Not true, there is a reason for the FRAGILE sign to be so big you see, yes they still don't take care of it that well, but it will be treated that much more carefully, depending on the airline
Do people want to get to their destination quickly or want their luggage handled with kid gloves?! So lie and put a fragile sticker on it? Really? If everyone did it, it would take that much longer for you sitting at the gate, in the middle seat. 😏

1:57 That's why all of my luggage bags are water-proofed. Frankly, I always travel as light as I can. I only take one carry-on luggage and one backpack, even on 10-day oversea trips.
Bruh, former baggage handler here.. we dont got time for that, it's getting tossed where ever it fits. And expect for your suitcase to incur damage over time if you travel often. Because baggage are not packages, they are not treated with care.
Some airlines remove ribbons or other loose items on luggage. Use colored duck tape to make a stand-out design or graphic. You can pick up a short roll at a hardware store or Dollar store.
I already pack most of that stuff anyway. You only need one drier sheet over bag. They're potent. Always put a change of clothes, toothbrush, & medications in your carry on! If you military roll, you can fit more clothing. I used to travel with a small pillow that I could tuck into my backpack handle. It's better than the pillowcase idea. It doesn't take up much space & it's more comfortable.
Disco Biker Barefoot Acrylics - Say what ??? I've always used dryer sheets that were already used in the dryer. Don't throw them away. Throw old, used, dryer sheets in your luggage for future travels. " used, " dryer sheets have the most faintest smell. Smells so clean.
@@beebeesfuntasticadventures6110 next time put spikes on wheels with things that ptotect and say "it blocks friction" and when they throw it the thing cimes off and the other bags get ripped.
Would have been nice to know this before I took that 14 hour flight from San Francisco to Sydney Australia. Not only that but I couldn’t take regular luggage, only one small carry-on, because I sold my luggage space to a courier company, thus I was wearing three layers of clothes.
As a former freight handler, I can tell you that a 'fragile' label is the same as every other label. If it's fragile, pack it like it is. Automated systems don't care about your stuff. And, with very few exceptions, arrows point 'out' not 'up'.
I got a mid day flight when I went to France to go skiing! It was much less busy! Don’t book early or late flights if you don’t mind spending some more money.
That one with the "FRAGILE" label doesn't work. My uncle is a pilot and i know from him that the airport employees dont care about that sticker at all. Its treated the same as any other suitcase. There is a really small amount of time while the plane is on the ground so they have to unpack and pack it for the next flight as fast as possible. Usually all of the baggage is just thrown.
Inside the luggage the inner edges collect dust while your inserting items and the dust gets on the clothing while flying. Gravity still exists in flight you know!
I'd like to add another tip or add on to "Drink water". Depending on the length of your travel, you should bring 1-2 liters (32-64oz) worth of bottles. I know you are not allowed to bring such amounts past security. This is why you should bring them empty and fill it/them up later. The Nalgene bottles have saved me from unnecessary headaches.

In checked baggage it's fine. In carry-on luggage, they will be confiscated, even if "covered" by a binder clip. The scanner will still catch it. Flying with a Bic is much less hassle.
BTW... BOYCOTTE UNITED They kicked a family off (2 parents and a little 2 year old) because the 2year old was fidgeting too much & kept rejecting the mask. Plus the father even held the mask near the kid's face to compromise but the airline still kicked them all off.
also, make sure you have everything, because you can even lose really big things, I went to South Africa, where we bought a R1300 ($130) Giraffe painting and coming back home, we left the painting in the Sydney airport! We realized we didn't have it when we were just boarding the plane and when my step-dad went back to find it, he looked everywhere that we had been, and he could not find it.
This was actually, super informative, and very clever! Usually, when people do these, "Hack", or "money saving ideas", videos, or whatever... They are all the same!
Or push the small flap on the front of your ear in, to cover the ear canal. Apply pressure and release. This can help pop your own ears.
Also forceful swallowing, like gulping down saliva caused from the chewing gum, or even a beverage, can help to re-normalize the pressure between your sinuses, ears and mouth.
Can confirm-flying with a bad cold is not fun. That said, I had no other choice, otherwise I would have been stuck in China without the rest of my group until I could fly home. 0/10 do not recommend.

Remember gang, always, I repeat, always put a paper clamp on all your razor blades and you're good to go, that is straight to the off site security search and pat down room.
For best results, consume half a can of baked beans an hour before takeoff, then have champagne in flight. Bottoms up, baby. Cheers!

And/or play Gorilla with it. LOL
Remember ''United Breaks Guitars'' song
Some of this advice is useful, even if you're not flying. BTW, hearing someone chewing their gum near you can sound really obnoxious. Especially if you're stuck sitting there for a long period of time.
Use tissue papers to keep your clothes from wrinkling and then stuff those clothes in a pillowcase to make a pillow!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣

I find using Press N Seal over the tops of cosmetic / shampoo bottles, toothpaste, perfume etc keeps the liquid safely inside...take any caps off- put the plastic over the top and return the caps- it's been a life saver to prevent spillage even when the items are in a plastic bag. 😀
You didn't mention how you can use a trash bag as a quick makeshift poncho also if need be.
After accomodating all his recommendations in my carry-on and with no space left, I ended up buying a new bag and then paying extra for checking it in. Thank you Bright Side.
The "Fragile" label means absolutely NOTHING. Baggage handlers don't have time to read your directions.
Not true, there is a reason for the FRAGILE sign to be so big you see, yes they still don't take care of it that well, but it will be treated that much more carefully, depending on the airline
I work as a baggage handler and no one cares if you slap a fragile sticker on your baggage. If anything it will be handled worse
Isa Wafeeq if you’re luggage is damaged you have voided any insurance you may have by using a fragile sticker.
I get paid for speed, not gentleness.
Do people want to get to their destination quickly or want their luggage handled with kid gloves?! So lie and put a fragile sticker on it? Really? If everyone did it, it would take that much longer for you sitting at the gate, in the middle seat. 😏
I’m going to Singapore in December, I appreciate this video.
Put all of your pocket items in a zip lock baggie. Then just pop it out at security.
4:25 chargers / powercords in a sunglasses case - I use a clear small "sandwich" baggie for each, with a larger one to keep them all into. Works well, and less cumbersome than sunglass cases.
This is gonna change my entire life because I’m a traveler 🧳
Yea when the tsa questions why I have a garbage bag I’ll be like well is definitely isn’t to suffocate someone
I miss my children, there daddy took them away from me across United states,but...iam going to court to see them iam soooooo excited to look at there beautiful faces and give them a hugs,
I feel the same I was taken away from my dad, but I can still visit him every once a 2 weeks. Organize somthing like that maby.

1:57 That's why all of my luggage bags are water-proofed. Frankly, I always travel as light as I can. I only take one carry-on luggage and one backpack, even on 10-day oversea trips.
If ur business will pay, or you can afford, fedx it overnight to hotel or office, especially golf clubs!
Bruh, former baggage handler here.. we dont got time for that, it's getting tossed where ever it fits. And expect for your suitcase to incur damage over time if you travel often. Because baggage are not packages, they are not treated with care.
Just wanted to add
To insure you get your, lookalikebag, put your name on bottom of luggage with marker
Some airlines remove ribbons or other loose items on luggage. Use colored duck tape to make a stand-out design or graphic. You can pick up a short roll at a hardware store or Dollar store.
You mean duct.

I actually thought you were about to suggest re-using the shoe designated shower caps in the shower.
This video has some great tips. Thank you, RUclipsr.
I agree
I already pack most of that stuff anyway. You only need one drier sheet over bag. They're potent. Always put a change of clothes, toothbrush, & medications in your carry on! If you military roll, you can fit more clothing. I used to travel with a small pillow that I could tuck into my backpack handle. It's better than the pillowcase idea. It doesn't take up much space & it's more comfortable.
Disco Biker Barefoot Acrylics - Say what ??? I've always used
dryer sheets that were already used in the dryer. Don't throw them away. Throw old, used, dryer sheets
in your luggage for future travels. " used, " dryer sheets have the most faintest smell. Smells so clean.

"A RUclips video told me to."

True that
Because when you're in a plane, you're pretty much in a cage. These seem to be tips for flight?
Because that's how they treat you on an airplane.
lol, put fragile on it and the baggage handlers will be more careful, and maybe put it on top.....NOPE, I seriously doubt that
Yeah the truth is they simply don't care...
They are the most frustrated persons on earth....
> 2:50
Shane Cheatham, you are so right, they won't even see that label, nor care about it, way too many suitcases to handle at a very short time.
@@beebeesfuntasticadventures6110 next time put spikes on wheels with things that ptotect and say "it blocks friction" and when they throw it the thing cimes off and the other bags get ripped.

Tennis ball?? Thats a weapon!!! They seize it!
These are really great travel tips! Thanks for posting!
You feel dirty after flying because airplanes and airports are gross....
And you are around a lot of people you don't know in a considerably small area when on the plane
Feel dirty after being groped by TSA.

Excellent commentator😃😃
Would have been nice to know this before I took that 14 hour flight from San Francisco to Sydney Australia. Not only that but I couldn’t take regular luggage, only one small carry-on, because I sold my luggage space to a courier company, thus I was wearing three layers of clothes.
Wow how do you sell your luggage space?

ok i have to know, who is leaving razor blades just sitting in their bag?
Kalvin Filarski yeah i want to know too.

As a former freight handler, I can tell you that a 'fragile' label is the same as every other label. If it's fragile, pack it like it is. Automated systems don't care about your stuff. And, with very few exceptions, arrows point 'out' not 'up'.
The bean tip at the end was worth a like.
“Don’t forget to bring a towel” 😉
“I have no idea what’s going on.” 😁

I got a mid day flight when I went to France to go skiing! It was much less busy! Don’t book early or late flights if you don’t mind spending some more money.
21 remember to bring a pet cages if someone keep accidentally knocking you just cramp inside the cages
this video is truly useful. love your videos bright side.
A fragile sticker might make your suitcase a target. 😂
No 23-300 foods allowed.
No water of: 34 ounces total 100ml.
"If your baggage is marked as ‘FRAGILE’…"
At Gatwick Airport might it be on top ?
Yeh, maybe thrown on top !

#8- If you put unguarded razor blades in your luggage, you probably deserve to get cut by them. They come wrapped or in a box for a reason.
You can't save all the people 😂😂😂
In checked baggage it's fine. In carry-on luggage, they will be confiscated, even if "covered" by a binder clip. The scanner will still catch it. Flying with a Bic is much less hassle.
I love bright side
If ur going to Singapore, dispose the chewing gum before u land
Or they will cut your tough out, I suspect.

Unless you are in business class, it will be difficult to massage your lower legs - with or without tennis ball.

They kicked a family off (2 parents and a little 2 year old) because the 2year old was fidgeting too much & kept rejecting the mask. Plus the father even held the mask near the kid's face to compromise but the airline still kicked them all off.
