- There’s something romantic about being a flight attendant. They’re very polite, good-looking, and smile a lot. Plus, having to travel a lot for work seems like a dream! But becoming a flight attendant with the best airlines in the world is harder than entering the most prestigious universities in the world. There may be up to 200 candidates for one spot and less than 1% of the applicants will complete the job interview with success.
Did you know that there are things flight attendants aren't allowed to do? They can’t have teeth braces, use earplugs, dye their hair purple, drink coffee, slouch, or chew gum. Also, tongue and nose piercings are obviously a no go. They can't slouch, and at some companies even put their hands in the pockets or cross their arms with their uniform on. And their smile must be impeccable!

I am a cabin crew and can say all the points are correct. There are some airlines even more strict than this.
What people have to understand is that, we are there not only for serving food and keeping them comfortable but, for their safety. So please, atleast smile back when we greet you. Say thank you when we help you, be polit and try to understand our side when we say we ran out of your meal choice. All these are basic manners.
P.S.: We are Cabin crew not the flight stewardess/ hostess.

Not forced to be perfect, that’s why the job interview stages are extremely stressful and long to pick up candidates who already have standards and they like following rules. This job isn’t suitable for everyone

I know that it's very rude but, they most likely said that because they want it to be clear and understandable, since it's very important for the passengers to hear and understand what the flight attendant says. If the passengers who don't know what to do incase the plane crashes or any other incident happens, they'll most likely get injured or worse. Flight attendants are supposed to have a clear accent that, most people can understand. It's for the safety of the passengers.
They probably mean a natural accent and not like how tik tok girls talk like extended talks intentionally

Now how often do you guys bend rules or allow rules to be broken, because I remember when I was in I think 7th or 8th grade I was on a plane flying out to the Mayo Clinic and I was on oxygen. Before takeoff the pilots were awesome and let the in the cockpit and sit In pilot seat, and he showed me how stuff worked. I think I even got to move the throttle thing forward. I was scared to touch stuff but supposedly everything is off and they have stuff locked before flights start.
I was only there for a minute or two because the oxygen cylinders are bolted into the box on a floor.
I still have a picture of it somewhere. That was one the coolest things I did in a long time. I was real short so maybe every thought I was younger.
Fun fact: the word “long” is shorter then the word “short”

The rule for the heavy perfumes is actually part of the official business etiquette and at most of the work places it is forbidden to have one. The same goes for eating, drinking and almost all of the rules.

My dad's part of an airline and mind you we would only getting what we wanted if we said please or thank you. We were taught how to sit, stand and walk even :D but today I feel lucky he taught us what he learnt

6:17 : Do not worry, pilots like to have interaction. It is not a problem to come in the cockpit if the airplane is at the cruise altitude and the autopilot is programmed, as long as you've been allowed to get into the flight deck !

I am on my way to an airport right now and it’s 3:00 in the morning our flight leaves at 5:00 and we will get there by nine
The height restrictions are understandable. Most passenger planes offer precious little wiggle room onboard. I’ve flown on a 767 operated by Thomson (now called TUI) and, more recently, on a 737 operated by Ryanair. Admittedly these beauties are both Boeing planes, but the same is most likely true of other manufacturers, such as Airbus, Lockheed and Tupolev, and the smallest passenger plane I’ve ever been in was a Concorde at a museum. The ceiling was so low that I can only imagine that the flight attendants on that supersonic beast would have been among the first people to develop the condition we now informally recognise as “text neck” because of all that crouching down while pushing a trolley as they served food and drinks in that cramped area.

I worked for a hotel that had a contract with a couple airlines and they were ALWAYS professional and in their uniforms. I never see one boarding a plane in regular clothes either.

I am literally amazed
Im a flight attendant in Europe and about our staff security control is totally opposite.
We as cabin crew dont have as many restrictions as normal passengers. There are certain rules that AESA dictates. Even when I’m not operating I always try to go through staff security (you just need your ID) so I can take for example shampoo or water, sometimes only to avoid the long lines and having to wait for a long time in the normal passenger security control….
Everything depends on the airport tho, some of them are more strict than others.
About us entering to the cockpit… yes and no. Depends on the airline. In my previous one everything was really well monitored and if one pilot wanted to come out to use the toilet you should follow a special procedure. In the other hand, in my current airline we enter to the flight deck whenever we want and also the pilots come out whenever they want. Of course we use curtains and sometimes even trolleys to secure the area.
My respect has really increased for all the cabin crew members

Some airlines do give your family and friends flight benefits, you just have a limit of 2 friends and 2 family members, these are called pass travelers or pass riders. They have to pay an annual fee and taxes for their tickets, but its way cheaper than a regular plane ticket. The only downfall is that they don't have an assigned seat, they are stand-bys which means they have to check if the flight has available seats, and wait until everyone is boarded and then they will get an assigned seat. Also depends how many people are on the standby list, some companies go by the seniority employee number or the order they checked in. Even for crew members is sometimes a hassle to get a seat to commute back home, because we are also standby.

I was taken to the galley once by the flight attendants on our plane. It was a calm flight, there were not a lot of people on the flight. Me and my mom were sitting at the back and I was getting bored and had almost finished my word search book on the flight and had started to read a book. But it was a boring book. So I guess they noticed that cuz they asked me whether I wanted to go to the galley and me and my mom went there. The flight was only 3 hours long and they had given and taken the food and stuff so they weren’t busy. They showed me the parts of the galley and the black box…told me what it’s functions were allowed me to sit on the flight attendants seat and just talked. They offered me some amazing leftover mango cake and coffee (ngl some of the worst instant coffee I had but hey it’s the intention that matters) and they were soo sweet. They even offered the other person sitting beside us some coffee. And we talked about all sorts of things about what I wanted to become and I asked them about what being a flight attendant was like and stuff and it was the best flight of my life. My mom was soo happy cuz her back was hurting really bad and sitting on those tiny seats just made it worse. We talked for two hours! It was soo fun. So we thanked them for making that flight a memorable one. I loved those two cuz they were motivating me to become what I want to become. And I was soo happy. Now I am trying to work to become an astrophysicist. That’s my dream job. It happened when I was 11 or 12 and I am 14 now.
