I always arrive three hours early. I’d rather be able to calmly check in, go through security and hang out for a bit drinking coffee and looking around the shops than be rushing to get the flight.
Same here: This is more relaxing, and you can enjoy even the start of your holidays when you do that. May be different if you fly for business duties. And in my opinion the best thing is to start your journey from a big airport (you have a lot of shops, restaurants where you can relax) but arrive at a small airport, where it is fast to get out (of course, most times that combination is not possible).
As an airline employee who sometimes depends on people missing their flights because they show up late this video is great. In reality most people should give themselves 90 min - 2 hours unless you have tsa precheck, know the airport and more. Tsa lines can be long. Especially if you plan on checking bags or traveling with kids you need 2 hours to account for variables. Honestly the number of inaccuracies in this video makes me question all the bright side videos I have previously enjoyed and found interesting.
You're smart. 15 years in aviation and I've never seen employees arrive less than 2 hours before a flight. Transcontinental flights I arrive 3 hours early. It only takes one terrorist pulling something somewhere in the world in the hours before your flight, to cause excessive lines in security as a new rule comes into play. Showing up just before your flight is a gem from pre 9/11. No one gets to enjoy that anymore.
In Shanghai Pudong international airport, you need to walk a dozen miles - literally - to get to the gate. After the dozen miles, you have to take a train to the new Terminal 3! Going to this airport is like walking into another world. That is, post-security-checks. So I am 4 parallel universes ahead of you :)
Very stressful and expensive experience of missing my flight. Friday evening, long lines, stress, a new very expensive ticket, 10 times more than the original one. Better earlier, than late. Learned my lesson ;)
I want to be early and you should arrive 2 hours early because the lines to ticket counter and security gates get long. Your flight could also be early and they may board and/or leave early. It's when your plane is delayed and that is when you want to occupy yourself with things to do while you wait. Good video though and I like to plan my travels and I always check my flight status.
The most unpredictable part of air travel is the drive to the airport if it's in a big city, like NY or similar. That said, I would think it's best to have the car parked about 2 hours ahead of the flight, or a drop off at the terminal door 90 minutes ahead of the flight. What you are aiming for is a smooth transition to be at your gate a few minutes before boarding, which is roughly 30 minutes before the posted flight time. What they don't cover in this video is that international terminals tend to be more crowded, which is why it may take longer. Another thing they didn't cover is ALWAYS carry a photo ID when traveling and ALWAYS put all of your normal pocket items into your shoulder bag when going through security. You can't believe how much time that will save for you and everyone behind you.
And when traveling, if you need a taxi, ALWAYS put a reservation for one at least 5 days before the actual drive. Just do a general web search such as "Taxis in my zip code" and find out the rates ahead of time. Then you just call the cab company and reserve a car for that day.
I only go the required hour early, but I don't mind being earlier depending on the flight I'm getting on. Vacation destination flights a little earlier. Business flights typically don't have such a rambunctious group of people so no real need to get there so early
I always plan for 3 hours since I live about 45 minutes from the airport - an hour to get there and get from parking lot shuttle hut to bag check (unless I have a friend dropping me off so I don’t have to worry about parking rates) then the standard 2 for all the other crud. Rather be early than running late
You don't need to reach your airport 2 hour early. The issue is that if you reach it late you miss your flight, now let's say its a holiday /vacation. Our last one was London Heathrow to LAX. We live 3-4 hour taxi away from Heathrow (taxi is roughly the same price as train or airport parking, and more convenient as no drive after a long flight and no hauling car seats and suitcases and tired toddlers from 1 train to a subway train etc.) . Our flights cost £2000 premium economy for a family of 4. If we get stuck in traffic or a queue at immigration and we miss the flights we loose the flight. We also loose the £6000 of accommodation we have prepaid and the car hire and our whole holiday. So our next option would be to rebook flights for sometime in the following 24 hours. Most planes were fully booked and we would be paying another £4000 extra for our flights. Not wanting this stress is why we arrived at the airport 2.5 hours early.
I always come 4 hours before the flight. I have time to finish all the processing with no stress and my extra time I can do window shopping, watching the airplane, take selfies and read ebook.
As someone that works at the airport, I can tell you one thing. It is always better for you to come early than late. Because of videos like this, people arrive 1 hour before the flight leaves, which can cause an airline to be late. Why? Most airlines close their check-in counters 1 hr before the flight leaves for intl flights and 45 mins before domestic flights. On a daily basis, we refuse around 40 to 50 people on average because they arrive late or they don't have the proper travel documents. Please arrive 4 hours before departure time as there might be traffic on the road, or a huge lineup at checkin counters, or at security. Just because you are late, it does not mean that you will be allowed to go in front of everyone in the lineup. We have forced people to stay in line before and you might be surprised on how their turn came up 1.5 hours after the plane has left.
I usually arrive like 3hours earlier, since I mostly fly via Frankfurt Airport. And this one is for me way to confusing to understand. So it takes me an eternity to find my counter and gate anyways I just need that much time
Yeah tell that to the people waiting in a 30 minute ticket counter line, and a 30-40 minute security line at the Atlanta airport. Good luck getting to your gate before the aircraft door closes.
I live less than half an hour from our airport. Sure, arriving at the airport an hour before departure may seem smart, but I often have checked baggage and I have to get boarding passes at the kiosk, etc. Depending on how many people are on my flight and where the ultimate destination is, I would rather be two hours early to allow for time to get through security (sometimes the lines are quite long) and then relax.
In a busy airport with long queues, you need to be at the airport early even more than 2 hours before your flight as you might be trapped in a long check in or immigration line. I've experienced to be at the airport more than an hour before my flight in a busy airport and I was stressed. The immigration queue was long. As soon as I was released by the officer, I ran towards the closing gate. I was embarrassed as everyone looked at me like a sweaty freak. That was a lesson. Be early than sorry
Yeah, great idea. . . especially if something goes wrong at check-in, bag check or in the TSA lines. There have been times when 2 hours ended up cutting it close. Also, there have been other times when it took less than 20 minutes from curbside to the gate. Would much rather be early than risk missing a flight. ATL being my 'home' airport.
I always reach at least 3-4 hours before scheduled departure, complete check-in/bag drop, security, and immigration without rush, and then spend 2 hours in a lounge with my credit card or Priority Pass benefits. No shopping unless it is on last return leg - then buy duty-free liquor.
You should pay attention to the minimum amount of time the airline requires if you're checking a bag. For most domestic flights, it's an hour before takeoff to get your checked bags on the flight.
I always arrived at the airport 2 hours before my flight I have been flying many times but a lot of things I didn't know thanks to the bright side I really like this channel and it's also entertaining
Last time I had a flight to London and It was 30 mins from departure and suddenly there was a huge crowd and I saw that It was a film star. I went to meet him but till I could see him he had left. So I came sad to broad my flight only to know that it has left 15 mins ago. 😂😂😭😭😭
I'm the one who is ready 2-3 days before... everyone else gives me grief for it and they're the ones running late and mad at me for not being stressed like them.
I would rather be early and spend some of my money while waiting for my flight, that run late and waste the money that I've spent to buy my flight ticket. The money that I've spent on buying some things and snacks is way more cheaper that my flight ticket. I would rather spent some money that miss my flight. @Bright Side
I prefer to be 2 hours earlier than departure time. Considering my distance to the airport at the time of the flight & traffic situation. The possibility of missing the flight is most frustrating. I have experienced it.
I always arrive early, especially at busy airports like O'Hare. My United credit card permits me free access to the lounge there. It's always nice and quiet in there with a great panoramic view of the runways. I also get free snacks and drinks in there. Not to mention, the bathrooms are much nicer than the public ones outside the lounge.
I’ve arrived 2hrs early & arrived last to board going through security when pre ✔️ is closed & only 2 lines open! I also get snacks & food at the sheetz.
Depends. If I'm staying on my continent, I arrive 2 hours before my flight. But for transcontinental flights I arrive 3 hours early. After decades of flying, when things have gone sideways on me, it's the transcontinental ones that have the least back up options. Especially warm season and holidays in the northern hemisphere. All of the flights can be fully booked, so you miss your flight and it can take a day or two find a different flight to rebook on at the last minute.
This Video - No one needs to arrive 2 hours early! Also This Video - Some of you may already have access to lounges! Okay so I can go early and hang out at a lounge for "free"
I always aim to arrive at airport two hours before departure, this is to allow leeway if journey to airport is delayed, never missed first flight yet; route I am on requires three flights each way. Any delays after check in for first flight causing missed flights to two and/three is airlines responsibilty; hotels and meals if necessary at their expensive.
I fly like 6 or more times a year. I’ve always gotten to the airport an hr to an hr and 20 minutes early and have always been just fine. So I agree u don’t need 2hrs.
My family likes getting there early so if security lines are long we still have enough time to get to the gate also we usually forget something so we still have time to get it if needed
@@statikcitten9 Rick Husband international is one hour before boarding. I tend to want to be in the TSA line at the one hour mark, not just walking in the door
My uncle and aunt always arrive late. My aunt would smile at the counter agent and apologize with a bogus story about flat tire on taxi or something and a lot of time the agent would help them to skip ahead in the security line. If that didn't work, the next trick was for her to talk with a male TSA agent with a little bit flirting about the situation and they would get ahead in the security line. Given the fact that they continue to arrive late, I guess it's working out very well for them.
I have Global Entry (which includes TSA Pre-Check) and I never ever needed to show up more than 1hr early. Even for international flights leaving the DC area and/or even on busy times of the year like Thanksgiving eve or X-Mas eve.
This is a great way to miss your flight currently. Check in agents and screeners are in shorter supply and it’s taking longer than usual to get through lines and make it to your gate on time.
LEAVE 3 HOURS before you’re leaving for a flight at LAX!! Don’t let this video fool you 😂 we have unpredictable traffic and can be crazy time checking in at security too
Airlines overbook flights to cater for "no shows". Arrive late and you could be told "sorry but your flight is full". Check in early and get your boarding pass to make sure you get a seat on the aircraft.
Why not? Your going on a trip There’s a set time when plane departs. Why not come early, no rush. And wait at gate. Less stress, watch a movie, surf the net, have something to eat/drink. Simple
How early you should arrive really depends on how familiar you are with the airport you are boarding on, if you have check-in luggage or not, etc. The most time consuming things for me personally is checking in my luggage and making my way through the security checkpoint
Disagree entirely with this video. A few years ago, I was flying out of Chiang Mai, check-in opened 2 hours before the flight, and getting to my gate took almost the entire 2 hours.
Most check ins close one hour before flight! Coming an hour before flight to the airport is way too late, so 2 hours are always the time to choose (unless you check in online without luggage).
I think the 2 hours is also there so that if you are delayed in your transit to the airport and still can check in. Also so you don’t have Karen who turns up 30 minutes before the flight and cause a logistical nightmare
If my flight is at 8am I arrive at the airport by 5am...do self check in,print out boarding pass, give my bag, right to tsa line, then right to my gate and wait..I read a book or have a snack till boarding...no stress..better to be safe than sorry..
Bought ticket, Flying Sunday on 1st Nov 2020 and returning Saturday on 5th Dec 2020. But it’s most cheapest I found in online 😂. Not like you said , Tuesday & Thursday(lol)

I arrive at the airport about 2 1/2 to 3 hours early even for a domestic flight within Australia to allow enough time to reach the gate, not to mention allowing for a gate change, get something to eat, go to the toilet, etc. On one occasion, my mum and I and quite a few other passengers nearly missed the flight because of a sudden gate change, only arriving at the airport 1 1/2 hour early.
Hi bright side! Big fan! Just wanna say that your supportive and lots of family members really think your useful. Thanks, and stay at the bright side of life!
Here is an idea for travelers from an Uber driver. DONT go to arrivals terminal to get picked up at most airports. You will find that during peak landing times, the line for pickups is overwhelming. Instead go to Departures. Less people and more space.
I worked in aviation for 15 years. Sometimes there are major delays in security that cause 1-2 hour delays. For transcontinental flights, I arrive at the airport 3 hours early. I saw too many people miss their plane on the days when we had major hold ups in security. I mean, you guys can do whatever you want, but airport employees aren't showing up less than 2 hours before flights. If Bright Side and others like to gamble, go ahead. But don't scream at employees when you miss your flight because you stood in excessively long lines because the security rules changed that day because of a major security incident that morning.
@@runningfromabear8354 I agree. I would rather arrive three even four hours early than to be five minutes late. As far as I'm concerned, the moment I leave my house, my holiday has begun. I'm happy getting the tube (I live in London) to the airport and dining at the airport, then grabbing a coffee. Rather than stressing out and forgetting something or worse still, losing something.
I always arrive early EVERYWHERE. Could be airports, job interviews, doctors, dentists etc. So many times when people (eg at doctor) are late or do not show up at all I finish my business early!
as an airport staff, all must be before 2half/3hours before.. because if the flight load is full and the passengers are late it'll be difficult to complete checkin before the departure time.
If you have ever flown out of Miami Airport, you need to be there2 hours early. TSA lines can sometimes take an hour and getting to your gate if you don’t know about the sky train can take forever.
I always come 3 hours or 2 hours before my flight because the airline gates I always go is far away or in the next building so I can have more time to get to the gate
Agents ARE watching us all, I’ve worked behind the scenes at airports for years now. They don’t care if you get there 2 hours early. I quite like paying for airport lounges, but it’s not a money saver: You spend more on lounge access than you will on a drink and a sandwich, plus the food you get in a lounge isn’t free, it’s INCLUDED. They make more money from you, assuming you don’t buy cologne, from lounge access than $15 at the Starbucks.
Sometimes if I am bored at the airport when I arrived around 3-5 hours before the flight with my parents,me and my mum go to the shop and sometimes I buy some stuff with my money.

I fly like 6 or more times a year. I’ve always gotten to the airport an hr to an hr and 20 minutes early and have always been just fine. So I agree u don’t need 2hrs.
I really love planes because I actually love flying up in the air
Brilliant
Have you watched the Netflix show Manifest about a flight ✈️ that disappeared into thin air and reappeared 5 years later
Today is my flight I am so excited I woke up at 4 in the morning.
My family likes getting there early so if security lines are long we still have enough time to get to the gate also we usually forget something so we still have time to get it if needed
I always arrive 4 or 5 hours early since it’s way more comfortable and also it’s way more stressful when you come just an hour early
Come late if you want to. I’m closing my boarding door 🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂 And then they wanna have a meltdown at the gatehouse. They say 2hrs for a reason and at my airport you better make it 3🤷🏽♀️
😂😂😂😸
@@statikcitten9 Rick Husband international is one hour before boarding. I tend to want to be in the TSA line at the one hour mark, not just walking in the door
@@jameshendricks8526 Smart man! Better safe than sorry, because really anything can happen these days!
Thank you! I am going on my flight tomorrow! Thank you!!
Idk what airport your flying out of but if it's from any major city, don't take their advice.
I have Global Entry (which includes TSA Pre-Check) and I never ever needed to show up more than 1hr early. Even for international flights leaving the DC area and/or even on busy times of the year like Thanksgiving eve or X-Mas eve.
Bright side- “You don’t need to reach the airport 2 hours early”
Me-“Reaching the airport 2 hours late”
Fang 😂😂
The 2 hour domestic and 3 hour international arrival suggestion also comes in handy in case you run into traffic enroute to the airport.
2 hours??!! We arrive 4 hours early!
👍
This is a great way to miss your flight currently. Check in agents and screeners are in shorter supply and it’s taking longer than usual to get through lines and make it to your gate on time.
LEAVE 3 HOURS before you’re leaving for a flight at LAX!!
Don’t let this video fool you 😂 we have unpredictable traffic and can be crazy time checking in at security too
Not to mention the distance between the airports when you have a transfer.
leave 4 hours early at harsfield jackson
Airlines overbook flights to cater for "no shows". Arrive late and you could be told "sorry but your flight is full". Check in early and get your boarding pass to make sure you get a seat on the aircraft.
And check in online, even if you have checked bags, it saves stress and, as you said, reduces your chance of getting bumped
my flight time- 7:00pm
my time to leave home - 3:00pm
My flight time tomorrow 2pm
Time to leave the house 11am
Why not?
Your going on a trip
There’s a set time when plane departs.
Why not come early, no rush. And wait at gate.
Less stress, watch a movie, surf the net, have something to eat/drink.
Simple
Me and my Mexican family are always 3 hours earlier before our flight time
Especially on our way to Mexico 🇲🇽
How early you should arrive really depends on how familiar you are with the airport you are boarding on, if you have check-in luggage or not, etc. The most time consuming things for me personally is checking in my luggage and making my way through the security checkpoint
Disagree entirely with this video. A few years ago, I was flying out of Chiang Mai, check-in opened 2 hours before the flight, and getting to my gate took almost the entire 2 hours.
Idk why but bright side airport vids hit diff
@Brightside: How cabin crew stay calm and move around during turbulence ? Do they get some special training for this ?

In Sweden you can drink tap water so water isn’t a problem here.
Bright Side: if you learned something new today, please leave a like!
Nothing is really new if you often watch Bright Side, they always tell the same content in each vid
I miss watching Bright Side so I'm here.😁❤️🔆
I go to airport 3Hrs early. I dont know I just love to sit there, relax and watch airplanes. 😂
Boomers : Are you challenging me?
😂😂😂😂
Hi bright side! Big fan! Just wanna say that your supportive and lots of family members really think your useful. Thanks, and stay at the bright side of life!
Why didn’t you release this video four days ago I was just on a plane😂🤣
Here is an idea for travelers from an Uber driver. DONT go to arrivals terminal to get picked up at most airports. You will find that during peak landing times, the line for pickups is overwhelming. Instead go to Departures. Less people and more space.
How many people missed their flight after watching this
I worked in aviation for 15 years.
Who’s watching with no socks on

Just got back from letting my dog out.
I don't wear socks inside my home
as an airport staff, all must be before 2half/3hours before.. because if the flight load is full and the passengers are late it'll be difficult to complete checkin before the departure time.
Hello my mom does this all the time!😂ima show her this
If you have ever flown out of Miami Airport, you need to be there2 hours early. TSA lines can sometimes take an hour and getting to your gate if you don’t know about the sky train can take forever.
The DGCA India requires the passengers to arrive only 45 minutes prior to the flight ✈
I always come 3 hours or 2 hours before my flight because the airline gates I always go is far away or in the next building so I can have more time to get to the gate
How do I send this to my mom without sending it to my mom...

Hey Bianca change 21 to 22
Sometimes if I am bored at the airport when I arrived around 3-5 hours before the flight with my parents,me and my mum go to the shop and sometimes I buy some stuff with my money.
My parents need to react to this
Be aware that ‘free luggage check’ can mean you spend the night WITHOUT your suitcase if the flight gets canceled. It happened to me.
The chemicals can give you really bad headaches.
I was 5 hours early at TLS and it was so nice to be there plus better go be safe than sorry!
And then there’s me who is 5 hours early
Do Tuesday and Thursday apply for all flights?
