@@virginialangford6257But true. As a former flight attendant, she makes it make sense and can explain why it is the way it is.
I think that all of these are pretty reasonable except the stuffing a woman in the overhead bin part
It's not actually
They do that so that they can make sure that their employees can fit in small spaces in case of an emergency.
Flying while pregnant is perfectly safe. My mom is an airline pilot and she flew with me for many months. She also has many coworkers who have done the same.

Nam Yeon-in which ones?
This is because airlines expect their FA's to be ''perfect''. And they have the right to do so. and i like it this way. If i had to choose between flying in an airlines with the classic type of FA's and an airlines where FA's are free to do whatever they want with their appareance i would choose the 1st one.
Yea? You try running around in high heels or day
No way most of them dont
My dad works for emirates (the company on the thumbnail) and basically he got me a little version of a cabin crew outfit when I was 5 or 6 and basically I asked one day if I could wear it on the plane and he said yes, since that day I was basically nicknamed by every cabin crew I met, the mini worker

Top ten STRANGEST requirements for being a flight attendant:
Number 1: You must be able to reach the overhead bins!
Some Cynic Um? I’m sorry WHY exactly is that a strange requirement? I’m not sure if you’ve ever even been on a plane before, but one of the tasks of a stewardess is to make sure that the overhead bins are closed for safety reasons. You clearly haven’t done any research considering how ‘strange’ this comment is lmao.
@@ash-gw7es it's just a reference to how the video called it "strange" while most of them are pretty resonable.
ash He has cynic in the name.
For my airline you just have to be able to lift a 50 pound luggage bag over your head. I know of no American airline that forces you to squeeze into an overhead bin. Must be an overseas airline only thing.
ash Maybe you should research sarcasm?
The people who complain about these rules are people that are never even considering a career as a flight attendant.

Very true!

The teeth will no gaps rules kinda sucks though. I actually have no control over that. Guess I can’t be a flight attendant 🥺
I don't think any of these are too strict, mostly because people will complain about any flaw they can find to get something beneficial to them, so of course the airlines would be strict about their employees.

Nam Yeon-in which one is racist?
Julia Gungor the marriage one is also right, yea, of course not easy, but it's better for the crews and their employer, as they have to travel all the time and they won't have a balanced routine and it could affect the crew member's marriage and relatively their quality of service, that's one of the reasons that they are paid very well.
"At Emirates Airline, they put a lot of emphasis on the way their attendants look"
Yeah, I can already see that.
Nobody:

For most part i don't even see a problem with the rules, like the weight thing, you have to be able to move inside plane without getting your hips stuck between chairs, its only normal, how tf is that sexist.
mmmkeklol
Dude, I'm not slim in any way and I fit in planes just fine. In my airline, there's loads of chubby attendants, male and female. As long as we can fit in the security chair, it doesn't matter. The reason most airlines require their flight attendants to be slim is sexist, 100%.
it would only be sexist if they would hire men who are fat.
Because some women just have wide hips and doesn't have to be fat.
@Bob Derple Um...what? This has nothing to do with hips.
The married rule is insane! Whose business is it if you date or are married?!
This is an other culture country, we can't judge them :(
married means that you will get pregnant and not be able to work. further more i dont want to see a pregnant flight attendant.
Flight attendants also have to be away from their home for days and if they are married, it can be really difficult for them.
@Emily Cooper 😂😂
With that attitude, you can’t even board a plane let alone being a flight attendant!😅
@@alsadacharlton762 We don't care what you want to see. Also, there are married people who don't want kids
requiring female flight attendants to wear heels is silly and unsafe. if theres an emergency situation, the attendants will have to choose between wobbling around in heels or going barefoot :/
I was thinking the same. Something like flats would be just as professional (not to mention comfortable) and far more logical.
I wonder if Britney did this for the song Toxic
I think the weight requirement is justified. A plane can only carry so much weight. In other lines of work, it is discriminatory. But with airplanes, there are weight restrictions.
Oh I thought it was so they could walk through the aisles in the pane because the aisles are super skinny
Agreed, maximum weight requirement is justified in this industry. They measure every pound of fuel and every pound of cargo going onto the plane.
But such limits should be applied to all employees on aircraft, including pilots.
But some people just have heavier bones than another. For example my mom told me she was quite slim when she was younger (basically before having kids; me and my brother)... so her doctor was always surprised when she had her check-ups because she always weighted much more than she looked for... yep, heavy bones.
Simmie X Then in that case you shouldn’t be a flight attendant
MarvelousMavika I’m just saying that heavy doesn’t always equal fat.
Okay why tf cant a married woman work for Qatar airlines? This is ridiculous 😭 yo Arab men just wanna hit on these chicks without feeling guilty
In your experience arab men have guilt when hitting on married women?
Mariam it not there fault
The relationship of married attendants with their spouses could be ruined in some way.
The attendant's performance could also be affected.
Maybe because of longing their partners company.
So that's one reason why.
@@brinettevalorie4554 The reasons that you list could apply equally to men. Then again they are ridiculous anyway. With your reasoning no married people should ever work! LOL
@@cataderian,
Yup, that's why I said 'married attendants' ;P
Back in the day, circa 1978, I went to support a friend to an 'open interview' for a new airline in the UK, I was picked out of the line, as ideal height 171/5'7" and I was at the time a dental nurse. I did not want to be a flight attendant then called a stewardess as I felt I could not deal with the time changes. My friend still reminds me of that time every time we meet, like for 40 years now!
Damn, I have a whole new respect for flight attendants
the weight and height requirement is sensible for safety reasons. just lie on a boat, airplanes have weight limits.
The flight attendants don't have weight limits. They have body type and bmi limits. If they said "you must weigh under 180 pounds for loading capacity reasons," that would be a safety standard. And it would also apply to the pilots 🙄 saying "you must be proportional" means "we want you to look a certain way"
It depends what kind of weight requirements they have. Of course you should be able to move through the plane without getting stuck, but you are not a safety hazard when you are 15 kg overweight.
I love to see flight attendants that are always put together. They look very professional and it makes you feel that you are the part of that luxury.
thanks for information in your video
In my opinion almost all these rules are nice and logical. When people want to travel by plane, the most important thing for them is safety and if the flight crews can give them that feeling, they would have a relaxed journey with peace of mind. When the flight crew look neat and tidy with good hygiene with beautiful classic enhanced natural beauty, it gives feeling of trust, peace and safety to the passengers and subconsciously they feel safe and taken care of. Also knowing that they are tall enough to take care of everything when needed helps us not to worry about anything while in the flight... I travel very often and I can notice the impotence of these rules, as I've been in very good flights and not good ones as well. So I could feel the difference visibly.
So if the flight attendant did not wear heals or had cornrows instead of weave, all of the sudden your life would be in danger?
@@soniquecat4745 Why are you bringing race into this? Why would you consider cornrows not "pretty hair"? And also, everyone who considers being a flight attendant won't complain over those rules, they all make sense. You're looking for a reason to be mad.
@@soniquecat4745 A nice outfit that you could work in is okay, as well as a good look, but heels are not helpful in emergency situations where you have to run, in performing CPR, delivering children, or in any other medical emergency, restraining an out of control passenger, fighting someone(s) in a hostile takeover, lifting someone over your shoulder to them carry out in an evacuation, or helping someone into a raft. (All duties of a stewardess/flight attendant). While working as a school nurse, we all had to watch a video of a supposed woman nurse practitioner who was very pretty and stylish with impeccable make-up and hair style, dealing with different medical emergencies. Along with wearing a white lab coat, she was wearing high heels on her way to an emergency. The group of nurses called out together how laughable it was that she was wearing high heels in her position. They noted how impracticable it was to wear heels in any medical or nursing role, especially when you would have to hurry to an emergency. There is no reason that an airline can't come up with stylish, classy looking shoes without high heels, which could be practical in a stewardess' line of work.
@@busyfloornurse mam they have cabin shoes..they don't wear high heels on board you know so much about the job of a cabin crew how did you missed this one....
For some of these rules, that makes sense. But the weight one or marriage one? Maybe passengers feel more comfortable with skinny flight attendants, but that's their own fatphobia and sexism that's the issue. The flight attendants shouldn't be excluded because the passengers are sexist.
Am I the only one who likes these videos because it’s like researching a job without effort
It’s so cool and keeps me subscribing
honestly I think the weight requirements are sort of necessary they don't do it because they are sexist but because an airplane can only hold so much weight also the lanes are really small and tight spaces
And think of how a person with morbid obesity (or anorexia) would be moving around, handling luggage and surviving emergency...
That's it! I'm not becoming a flight attendant because my teeth are crooked and I don't want to wear makeup.
You don't have to have straight teeth to ba accepted, you can do anything you want, and if you are really worried about it,you can try medical Braces!
Yay new video!
I don't think that the weight requirements are a problem, the airline is allowed to have weight requirements if they think it is safer, and for the people they let go, most of them may have been women. Not because of sexism, but because the women did not meet the weight requirements. The flight attendants I've seen have also been mostly women, so it would make sense that the amount of women let go compared to amount of men is proportionate to amount of women working there and amount of men. In all, the airline can do what they want with requirements, especially if nothing has been enforced.
Little fighter panda
Exactly! If they're skinny to the point of it affecting their health, they should be let go. If they're overweight to the point of it really affecting their health, they should be let go.
Ofc they are right but special snow flakes are offended.
You can be in a healthy overall condition and still be somewhat overweight. There are conditions some people have that mean they're overweight no matter how much they eat healthy and excesize because that's just what their body does.
MegaKaitouKID1412
Yep, but they're still healthy.
What they really should do is get a health check up, and even then sometimes it's obvious if the person is so obese that it's either hard for them to walk, or they're too big to work in a plane.
It's not only a matter of looking good or to be able to fit in the narrow spaces between the rows of seats. It's also a matter of money : the heavier you are, the more it will require fuel for the plane. I know, it sounds silly, but quite a few companies replaced plane manuels by tablets to save weight, therefore fuel. So I'm pretty sure it goes for the flying personnel.
Thanx for information...
What a refreshing video Thank you😄💚
I don't see any problem with any of that ! :)
Same here! Seems pretty reasonable to me
+Julia Gungor Yes Julia the marriage one., Because one way or another they will wind up getting pregnant which airlines sure don't want.,
I don't believe that small tattoos bother anyone, especially if you are willing to hide them with make up
Well, I disagree. Personally, I dislike tattoos in any shape or size with or without makeup But that is not just my opinion, there are a lot of people who agree with me. When I see someone who I think looks nice/cute etc. Then I am like she looks "hot". I would give her 8/10 (Very good looking). And then I suddenly see a tattoo (even the small ones) that grade drops immediately to a 4 [(Please disappear out of my sight now (without delay)].
Not true, you (a) do not need to be married to have children. And (b) you do need to have children when you're married. There is no such law in existence in "modern" countries. And I do agree on that airlines don't want pregnant people but it's not that being or not being married will solve that issue.
I feel like the CEO of Qatar Airlines just wants to make the attendants available for the male passangers
Yes
No they just want to be available to come on flights
It's all about the business , if they had majorly female passenger ridership then I would put mostly all male stewards to cater and pamper them for business purposes
Awesome video!!!
I agree to all of these requirements, I went through all of them before I was hired as a flight attendant. Loved my job every second.
The weight requirement is probably the most necessary due to the aisle width in planes and the need to be able to reach all the way to the window seat easily (given that the space between rows in coach (or as I refer to it, "steerage") is fairly slim. Also the weight requirement is also a historical holdover from early in the industry when everything was weighed, even luggage and passengers.
I think the weight requirement from Air India was pretty reasonable. Since the typical aeroplane cabin is pretty small, if a flight attendant, female or male, are overweight or obese, they would have difficulty walking through the aisle.
Laura it’s just that these people are working on board for a very long time since it’s a fixed government job with Min age requirement to be 55 years. And I guess they don’t monitor the weight and grooming of their crew
It was sexist and the aisles of the aircraft are not small that is why they are called wide bodied jets. The aisles on these aircrafts are pretty wide.
@@nazarethp9248 show me the sexist, I cant find it anywhere.
@@nazarethp9248 the wide body is to make the passengers comfy we dont need a log plugging the aisles

Clicked on this video for the thumbnail to share this memory. I used to work as a cashier for the gift shop of the US Open tennis tournament from 2017 to 2019. Emirates was one of the sponsors of the tournament which meant that they had a booth on property advertising their airline. It was a delight to see the flight crew walk around the facility.
This is my favourite video so far❤️❤️
Amazing video love you so opinion much
Why is this video making such a huge deal over what are pretty much universal business attire dress rules? MOST professional jobs won't let you wear unconventional hair or hair colors, more than two rings per hand (that's generous to begin with), have visible tattoos, etc....
milkjamjuice the “court heel” shoes are a dangerous and sexist requirement. Female flight attendants who are responsible for the passengers lives will be required to go barefoot in the event of an emergency landing, because heels puncture emergency exit slides.
For safety, all flight attendants SHOULD be required to wear flats.
Some flight attendant unions have been fighting to get this ridiculous and unsafe dress code changed.
Flight attendants aren't professionals they're air waitresses (with survival training) that are still, in general, treated like waitresses in rural Bosnia are. Meaning that they ought to be pretty and the male customer should be given something to wank off to in the plane loo if he so chooses.
Also, anyone who must wear hight heels as part of her uniform and can't replace them with flats without getting in trouble isn't a professional, they're very, very low at the corporate ladder.
Same goes for make up. If you can't choose not to plaster yourself with make up you aren't a professional woman.
BTW, as I was mulling over if I were too harsh on the industry, after all we all love seeing beautiful people, I read Kate's comment. So, the plane companies will sacrifice safety to have their flight attendants look sexier! (The only purpose of high heels is to make a woman taller, elongate her legs, and make her walk sexier). Enough said.
Name 5 companies that don’t allow more than 2 rings per hand...and go!
@@KateSitka I'm Navy Officer and I have to wear camo and boots: men outfit! That could be considered sexist as well because I can't show up my beauty. So, I think each job has the good and the bad.

"Do you think having a weight requirement is taking things too far?" I don't know, why don't we let people bring 60 pounds of carry on luggage on as well? Any weight you add to a plane hinders its performance during takeoff, cruise, and landing. Gravity gives no fucks about your precious sensibilities. Weight requirements should extend to all passengers as well. Give people an incentive to lose that weight for a trip to Cancun. Would probably lower the obesity rate too. Why do you think there's weight limits on elevators???

All these rwquirements perfectly reasonable. I think the Emirates staff especially are stunning (I've flown with them the most)
All the requirements mentioned seem reasonable. I have flown on many different airlines, and the flight crew on every airline, male and female always look fresh and beautifully groomed.
I think if you are overweight to the point where you can't perform your job to the best of your ability then yes you shouldn't be in your job.
Yup and their body might hit the passengers while passing through!😂😅
One time I was on a flight and I was in the back row, and the two flight attendants were gossiping with each other about some boy 😂
Aside from hazing, the thing that raised my eyebrows the most was the use of BMI. Using a measurement that’s been empirically proven to be inaccurate is alarming.
I think its right bez when we look at the flight attendant we fell they are so perfect
I actually understand the no tattoos or piercings. It makes them look a lot more professional.
I don't think the weight requirement is too extreme (the air india probably is). If you have obese flight attendants, it does decrease the 'attractiveness' of flying with the airline, wether you like it or not, as well as safety issues. Flight attendants should be physically fit if they are supposed to help people survive. An obese flight attendant, regardless of gender, might potentially cause a jam inside the exits, as well as potentially not being physically fit enough to force open or even open the doors of an aircraft, which can become hard to do.
I totally agree with all this. It's a very prestigious job, so there HAVE to be exacting rules.
I’m 15 and I want to be a flight attendant, thanks for this video it helped 😁
The comments: well these are pretty reasonable
Me: how. How is having to ask permission from a company to get married reasonable. How is being fired for being pregnant reasonable. Stuffing women in overhead compartments. Literally half of these are either weird or discriminatory in some way.
THANK YOU
Right?? wtf is wrong with these ppl.. I'm thinking they are the ones putting up the rules or airlines representatives or something. This is bs!
I don't think the Firing is good. But I do understand that they can't work on the plane. MOST of these are quite reasonable. But ofc the stuffing is ridiculous. Though that's more of a thing the employees made up rather then the company (I think)
Asking for permission from a company to get married is only applied in the middle east, it's a very rare scenario therefore it's not a "requirement" to most people who want to become flight attendants, as the video suggests. Also the story at the beginning of the video with stuffing women in overhead compartments isnt a requirement either, it's just something that happened once and taken out of context for this video.
I've seen some chunky flight attendants in my travel journeys; mostly US airlines
Thumbs up for TAM airlines!!! Nice
I just became a flight attendant for Air Canada and I’m at size 20 but I can fit through the aisles and small spaces without any issues. So weight restriction vary from airline to airline.
tbh non of the rules are too strict. some loosened rules kinda bothers me since it's nice to have them all look the same or similar

6:05 I have flew with TAM before and I’m glad that if sm were to happen they would know :)
Weight restrictions are because if the weight of flight attendant is more the aeroplane also weight more which eventually burn more jet fuel
And now my dream of being a flight attendant is ruined.
I'm too short
Presentation when dealing with public no matter which job, is very important in my opinion and I don't think these are weirdest things people have to do to become flight attendants. It all makes sense to me in a way.

4 rings is strict? you only have 8 total fingers you can put rings on, how is that strict
but most people have 10 so only 6 fingers will be ring less
Never heard of a thumb ring?
Uff why would you put 4+rings while u r working?
I think that would be pretty uncomfortable. especially in this kind of work...😐
I think they can be more relaxed and lenient on the weight limits but it is still necessary as cabins do not have alot of space.
Not only TAM uses this tip of training. In Brazil, you need to do a flight attendant course for work in Brazilian companies , and in the course is include it. It’s not just for company A or B.
thats for safety i think some of the guidelines...and if thats what the company requirements and your dying to be flight attendant then you should follow..😀
"A total of four rings in total"
All these actually make sense
I'm Navy officer and we also have to fit the correct BMI every year. Also the rules are not so terrible if you bear in mind that Armed Forces have Regulations for everything. I have 20 years following the rules and I'm still alive with no trauma!

I had a flying ad before the video lol
the height/weight requirements have been much relaxed from the early days of flight attendants. Notice the more restrictive requirements are mostly by airlines based in countries other than the US. Safety is the majority of flight attendant training...would you prefer it otherwise? Emerits only go through 2 weeks of training?....American based airlines are usually over 4 weeks of training.
Well I couldn't be a flight attendant I really can't walk in heels
ashton vickers the heels most stewardesses wear are really small though. I’m a stewardess trainee and we wear the smallest 3cm heels there are. Even dudes could walk in those lmao
I think these all sound normal and not ridiculous
The should be strict when it comes to height and reach because in case of an emergency some equipments are located in the overhead bins. They MUST be able to get it in one go
Oh wow I never knew about the dehydration 🤔😌..... Well now I know 😏😏😁😊, thanks for that.
The height requirement must be different for each air line bc I’m 5”0 and still got hired. We’re always in heels and there’s a little step you can step up on the seats. My airline had flight attendants literally in every shape and size.
I can definitely understand the pregnancy one. The Airline doesn't want to be held responsible if something were to happen to you or your baby during the flight. It's also a lot of standing, and heavy lifting, 2 things that you shouldn't be doing in excessive amounts while pregnant. Firing them was too much though.
In Europe if you get pregnant as cabin crew you’ll be grounded , you don’t lose your job. They can let you do some work on the ground ( check in , administration , etc). After giving birth you can fly again.
Wonderful this is basic discipline
I always thought it was funny when on a flight from Seattle to Honolulu the flight attendant would always tell us the seat cushions serve as floatation devices in the unlikely event of a water landing. We're going from Seattle to Honolulu, if the plane goes down we're going in water.
Dress regulations and requirements of flight attendants are the same as in the military
The pregnancy one makes sense, if u are pregnant, there's a health risk when flying & there's a safety risk b/c flight attendants are there to keep others safe & being pregnant will get in the way. Also, many things can happen on a plane that could possibly kill an unborn child so even if the company didn't fire them, I think they would've taken a leave or quit since pregnancies last a while.
Literally no other airline has a problem with flight attendants doing the 100% normal human thing of having children, so that's no excuse. Also, women have kids and keep their jobs every single day, so no, they wouldn't've quit because of a pregnancy. In fact, supporting another human beings mean they need to retain their job more than before once they become pregnant.
It's called maternity leave-- just like a random injury might necessitate leave from a job to heal, carrying around another human and then pushing it out of your vagina, something that women have to do at an average rate of 2 times in their lifetime to sustain the human population (let's be fair-- we could do to reduce that average for a while on a worldwide level, but in rich countries the birthrate often does not reach the level of sustaining the country's population so...) should get you some leave from your job.
It certainly does make sense to tell the airline you're pregnant so that you can switch to the ground crew etc. In Germany, it's against the law to fire women who are pregnant, on maternity protection (it starts 6 weeks before the estimated d.o.b and ends 8 weeks after birth) or on parental leave. Parental leave can last up to 3 years. I'm glad to live in Germany :)
In the Navy if you get pregnant, you'll go immediately to a base. It's about Mom and Baby health.
a 'normal' job wouldn't affect the baby the same way as a high altitude (different air pressure) job would
@Rachel Zhao...…...If the pregnancy is normal you can fly up to 36 weeks, there is no danger to the woman nor baby. Being pregnant doesn't get in the 'way', I have worked as a flight attendant with pregnant colleagues and they work harder than some of those that are not pregnant!
The one with the height is also because the some of the equipments the flight have (safety wise) is in overhead bins, and you have to be able to reach them quick, and not have to climb on everything in order to get them!
The emergency/survival training in Brazil was impressive
