- CNN gets access inside the trauma unit at San Antonio's University Health Hospital, where doctors treated some of the victims from the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School that left 19 children and two adults dead.

I think the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff who treat these patients are often overlooked when things like this happen. Its traumatic for them too. I really hope everyone who treated these victims is able to get the therapy and support they need to move forward.

I they are some of the best compensated professions in the world. I think they get all the recognition they need. If they ever feel like they arent getting the recognition they deserve they can just look down at one of their massive pay stubs and smile.

They are amazing. It takes a special breed to work a trauma ER especially in places like Newark and Chicago.
Did she just got through saying it's one of the busiest trauma center in the nation what the hell is that place Chicago or miniature version of it

I hope someone is able to be there for these health care personnel. I’ve seen her on multiple interviews with the same disposition. She and her colleagues are amazing and strong, but they need support.
Love how brave the police was that day, waiting 45 minutes and give kids no chance to survive while the gunman went on hour long rampage.

Respect, something I probably could never do / handle. This gives me a different perspective of when I was in a coma inside the ICU for a week after a wreck last June. Seriously have so much respect and love for Trauma units.
Same. I had a near fatal car accident in Jan 2006. I was in ICU, in a coma almost a month and had 2 open heart surgeries during that time. I was conscious from the time of the wreck for probably 3 hours after when I reached the trauma unit so I remembered the dance like choreography of 1st responders,doctors and nurses as they worked on my broken body. It was a long road to recovery,one I still walk today. Not a day goes by that I don't think about the amazing efforts of those who saved me. Anytime I cross paths with someone in the medical field I thank them,and very briefly tell them why. Covid has only strengthened that respect and gratitude,as do stories like this. I don't know how they do it-I only know how grateful I am that they do.
For those of you in the medical field- THANK YOU,for all that you do. I say that for myself and for those who,for whatever reason, are not able to say it themselves.

Oh god! Poor doctor .. it must be so hard to see young children in that situation and knowing the implications of gun shot on them. Even if they recover, it will still be very difficult to be normal physically & mentally.
Coming from a Trauma center.. believe me when I say gun shot wound are one the hardest and the worst compared to other traumas. Most of the time you can save stab wound victims but gun shot.. most gun shots end fatally.😢

They need to show how a bloody mess it looks in those trauma centers when they try to keep someone alive. Let the public know how it is. Stop censoring and show the reality of bad these situations are.
An immigrant who studied and worked hard to become a doctor. She has saved many lives. True American. Even then, there is all that horrible anti-Asian sentiment out there. This woman deserves national recognition.

I remember thinking, wow in 2008 I was 10 years old, grieving the death of my grandfather and realizing what life and death is. I was barely coping. Now imagine being that same age yet trapped in a classroom with the loudest popping noises ringing while all your friends are bleeding around you you’re playing dead. It’s just ridiculous I mean how will these kids ever return? How will that classroom be used again? I mean how can all the kids of the US feel safe? I’m lucky to have attended 12 years of school and 3 years of college and never had an event like this occur although it did cross my mind always that it was a possibility..

These precious kids and their families are going to need a lifetime of therapy. Especially the babies. Childhood trauma is easily triggered for the rest of your life. Kids don’t forget.
I was thinking what it would be like for the kids next school year that go to that school. They are going to have to walk around in the place where their friends and teachers were murdered just months prior. Hopefully they don’t have the kids next year use the same classrooms that kids were shot in.
It’s all so horrifying and unimaginable.
Wow, I am just truly more grateful watching this video and wish I could hug these people who serve us. We depend on them so much when the community hurts.
The University hospital is outstanding! They saved my life almost five years ago with a double lung transplant. Many prayers for the families of these brave children.
Maybe if the police were courageous enough to do something about an active shooter they wouldn't have so many victims to help. Also, put an armed guard in every school in America.

You will be stunned to realize that in the USA history, since then, there has been only 200+ deaths that have occurred due to school shootings in that 240 year time period. This doctor is an immigrant from Chinese decent. Maybe next time she might be a victim when she walk in the street, looking at the hate crime against people from Asian decent in the US. We all should be ashamed that we have to live with this kind of circumstances nowadays. I support the Second Amendment but i dont understand why an eighteen-year-old needs a rifle if he or she isnt in the military? Just raise the age to 25 for purchasing a gun. Most of these shooters are under that age.
A huge issue is that most of them are also social outcasts and have emotional or mental health issues. There's a lack of genuine connection between people, especially with gen Z. A person with little connection with those around them is one that becomes destructive. Same with those that receive no beneficial stimulus.
Teens and young adults of today have the highest rates of depression and anxiety ever seen before in history. Parents aren't parenting, children, teens, and young adults aren't forming bonds with one another, and the pressure being put on them all adds up extremely quickly. School fights are getting more dangerous, bullying rates are rising, and it seems like there isn't much being done to help.
My band teacher had a long conversation with the class after sandy hook and Florida. He made the point to set grievances aside, to talk to one another, and to actually be there for each other. Band students seemed to have a tendency for poor mental health while I was in high school, but we all did what we could for one another and nothing ever got out of hand with the band students. We all tried reaching out to the students that were loners, they would eat lunch with band students in the band room, and they were actually pretty cool people - just socially awkward and bullied over nonsense things.
Teachers - get your students to bond with each other. Parents - teach your kids what it means to have a healthy social life and have healthy behaviors. Teens/young adults - you're pepped up on hormones, you have so much going on in your body and it causes so many things to happen. Please extend kindness to one another, try volunteering even just once, and please have healthy conversations with one another when you're upset with someone.

There's a solid trend as to the mental health of those that commit these atrocities. In the case that all guns are banned, what's to stop someone with a machete at that point?

I respect all the pediatrics/infant RNs, MDs, care takers. I am an adult RN and I am a father who has a young daughter. It would break my heart if I had to care for those children, I wouldn’t know what to do except to cry.

Getting some medical perspective from this, It seems quicker the patients transport, less death from mass casualties.. I don’t want to blame the police from Uvalde, but I’m really curious what took so long for them to get in, beside from gathering information, units, and access to the room. Thank you for all the doctors and nurses devoting their life saving people in this hardship time 🙏
Time is everything for survival - heart attacks, car accidents, gun shot wounds, strokes, impalement, stabbings, amputations, and much more are all very time sensitive ordeals. It's important to prevent these situations from happening in the first place, but in the scenario that it does happen, rescue and transport must be done immediately.
I would suggest looking at the procedures in which firefighters follow for handling large scale situations. They are some of the most effective plans available for emergency response
You should be going inside the senate to see why these kids lives don’t matter to the senators instead.
What is painfully apparent is that these heroic men and women dedicated to saving lives, live and work in a state where guns are more important than people. I am heartbroken for them, and our country.

I’m a nurse and it always get to my core my soul that there are people out there like us so selfless so willing to help people who need it and we don’t do this for the money we do this bc we have a love an empathy for people no matter what walk of life they come from yet there are sick selfish individuals like that 18 year old boy that can take life of someone else so selfishly without even thinking twice about it the world is so weird so strange. There needs to be change in this country with guns we are obviously not a mentally well country at this time and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better

We need mental institutions back, and mental health screening on children. As an ER nurse from 1998 to 2015, the mental health aspect of our healthcare is lacking severely as the mental health of our country is collapsing. It literally takes hours and hours to find a mental hospital to admit a patient to depending on their insurance, if any. Nonetheless, they are usually back walking the streets in 3 days or less. It’s gotten to where they are dumped across a county line by LEO to avoid the time it takes to deal with them

This is only one of the many reasons Dr.s committee suicide and so many nurses have depression, we see so many unimaginable things and still manage to act on the moment as needed with full composure and suffer the effects of all this tragedies later but we still won’t change fields because we love what we do and care about people besides all the side effects that come with this territory 😭
