Because AR-15s where banned and mandatory background checks where in place when Columbine happened. We are tired of solutions that aren't working. While you're wasting our time real people are being murdered.
Dear Mr. Kimmel, Thank you for using your platform to address this horrific topic. I am a grandmother of six who go to public schools and a mother of teachers who teach in those same schools. Together we can stop this agony, but only together. You are speaking for so many, the majority, and from your heart, and I thank you. God bless
From Australia, my heart is broken for every single American and especially those in Texas. It’s time for change. No parent should ever bury their own child.
keep getting beaten in your own streets without any protection for being outside during covid when your government told you not to...I'll keep my guns, tyvm.
It is worth mentioning, there is another prong to this problem. Mental Health. This country is the ONLY developed country to NOT have universal healthcare. Heck, even Mexico has it. This won't end with millions of untreated mentally unstable people running around.
i can feel the pain of the parents, too.... but its their own failure to let this happen, because they love the NRA and the GOP so much, they are ready to sacrifice their own children to them!
I’m from Sweden and all we read about are the shootings in your country , we have our own problems but when a person goes in to an elementary school and shoots little kids something need to be done. I cannot imagine the pain 💔 respect to Jimmy for talking about these things and using his platform to shed light on a very serious problem
From another European: exactly the point. In Europe, we're used to spend the whole of our lives without ever needing or wanting a gun. Nobody that I know owns a gun. Nobody needs it. We have the freedom to go outside, live our lives, have fun, go to major cities or small villages, unarmed. That is real freedom. That is true freedom. Not having to worry about surviving, having to carry weapons to have some feeling of safety. I could never live in a country like the US, ever. It is insane.
So sorry...so sorry; A kindergarten child shouldn't have to fight an ar15; Or should they.....It will happen again...and..again..unfortunately; We didn't learn anything from Sandyhook; Columbine...etc...
I'm a teacher in Austria and because of news like this, some kids (not many, just a few) have asked me whether we were going to have panic buttons or active shooter drills and the idea absolutely terrifies me. I always tell them that it would be one of the saddest days if we ever needed those things at our schools...
I live in the US. I saw a news special recently about a high school that spent $400,000 on panic buttons for all the teachers, speakers and cameras in every hallway that broadcast straight to the police dept., ballistic glass for the windows, and even smoke screens that rain down from the ceilings. The news report acknowledged that it was expensive and not every school would be able to afford it, but touted it as "a potential solution," reminding audiences that many schools spend even more on sports programs. I'm so ashamed of my country.
This broke me. To think that our problem is so bad that innocent children around the world are even in fear, it makes me sick. I’m so ashamed of these so called “leaders”
Oh please! If any of those parents had guns and managed to get themselves in the school, they could have taken out the shooter. Guns are necessary to stop evil people. Jimmy is just a sound piece for the left agenda
Watching this from Australia, you cannot help but feel the raw emotion and devastation watching all these videos and news stories. Our hearts break for you and what this is doing to your country. It's incomprehensible. Let's hope your government wakes up fast. Sending love & hope. ❤
Also from Australia. Our government reps may be slaves to foreign interests, but no one here (including govt representatives) is pro-gun access. I can only imagine the sh#+-show if a single elected representative ever spoke in favour of gun ownership. We still remember Port Arthur. We don’t need 20 reminders every SIX months
This monologue needs to be shown on every network. Well said Jimmy, big respect to you for using your platform to ATTEMPT to action some form of positive change.
Some of you might not like Jimmy Kimmel, but one thing about him is that he never stays quiet when something like this happens, and he's never wrong about these things. I've always respected him because he never holds back. We need people with his honesty in politics. We need gun control on a federal level, not this state-by-state bullshit.

According to some people, sacrifices are needed to keep Americans safe. And as long as they don't know the people killed, they're fine with this situation.
As a second grade teacher and an elementary school teacher for 22 years, I am scared, sad, furious and overcome with empathy. Thank you for being real Jimmy.

@@ronnie_5150 One question as a german: what is wrong with 'liberal'? I had Latin at school and as far as I remember, it means free. I remember times, when freedom was a value for Americans. The threat of being shot by a Psycho with an assault rifle does not make kids feel free. My condolences to the families!
And to the gunmans family! Especially his grandma, who got shot by her own grandson. Adam Lanza shot his mother before Sandy Hook. I can't get over the suspicion, that the gunman was somehow inspired by Lanzas cruelity
I had a son 7 months ago and I’m 19 years old. There have been 4 major shootings in my life involving elementary schools and high schools. This had brought me to tears. I pray for the family’s and the dedicated parents are going through this. These baby’s will never be forgotten.

i was heartbroken when a child called 911 several times and was being told police were there but not being rescued right away. I can’t imagine calling for help and not getting it right away! So terrifying so enraging! They shouldn’t have waited so long and it breaks my heart for all the teachers and little kids who lost their life. Now the survivors will have this memory forever. So heartbreaking. Hearing a little kid describe an adult situation is so sad. They don’t know that the Gunman was evil. You know? Their so innocent. I wish these kids nothing but true happiness who survived. It’s not fair that they witnessed true evil.

I'm glad me and my family live in Belgium. I cannot imagine how it must feel knowing your children aren't safe at school. May you Americans have the courage to stop this insanity once and for all.
we have the courage. We don't have the legislative power that the subhumans in the NRA and gun lobby do. That's the problem. We were done for when corporations were ruled to have the same rights as people.
I'm a Belgian, living in Australia now. I have never held a gun in my life, have never seen a gun shop in Belgium or Australia. I'm sure they exist, but it's a rare thing. It's the familiarity with guns of all sorts that is the problem in America, and the fact that kids are allowed and encouraged to get trained to use them. Getting guns as Xmas presents. Assault weapons are like totally normal every-day objects/utensils. Madness. It must be that Americans can't understand anymore how strange of a situation that is.
From Australia.. This has to stop. It's disgraceful that Americans have to live under these circumstances. Change must come. You're a great man for championing this Jimmy. Respect and love brother
I'm fully with you and I fully understand you and your point, but sadly I don't think the American people are really ready for this change. They take their right to carry guns so strongly.
I'd rather live under "these circumstances" than the tyranny of Australia. You morons allowed the government to disarm you. Now only the government and criminals have protection. More people die under tyranny than will EVER be killed in mass shootings. History isn't on your side.

To prevent this incident from happening again american lawmakers must have balls to repeal the second amendment. Majority of the nations have strict gun laws especially japan and china. Do you heard frequent mass shootings in these countries?
Trust me: we, as Europeans, sometimes give the USA a hard time and tease you. But every time something like this happens, it hurts us tremendously. It’s gut wrenching and we sincerely hope you can overcome this. God bless and love. Stay safe brothers😘
You know as a Canadian, it’s like watching a dysfunctional family living next door. Schools should not need armed guards. Stats show legislation works. I have no words for what is happening in America. This is political and anyone who says it’s not is in denial. Your children should live past school age. Praying for the families that have been ripped apart.
The Texas shooter violated a multiplicity of gun laws. The suggestion that more gun laws would have prevented this act of unspeakable evil is unsupported, and the implication that those who oppose such laws are somehow in favor of mass shootings is morally reprehensible.

Regardless, being a Texan is something I’ve always been proud of until recent horrific, heinous, and completely predictably and preventable events.
How about instead of being proud from some place people come from We are proud to be decent human beings. The tribalism and fake pride in the USA is part of the cause. It never stops them and us. RIP children.
Im from Connecticut only 45 miles from Sandy Hook and my daughter was the same school age as the angels lost there. I can’t believe that this is continuing after almost 10 years and the same talking points are being said over and over again. Enough is Enough! Like Jimmy I am emotionally in a daze and I had to talk to my now 14 year old daughter today explaining my personal experiences when picking her up from school that day. She remembered that my husband and I wanted her to sleep with us in our bed that night and enjoyed the cuddles while we hid our tears. This is it! I decided to get involved with voting this year and pushing others to get this suckers out who do nothing.
Really impressed with the seriousness and airtime given to this, if only more media outlets actually stopped to deliver tragic news we might not be as jaded by tragedy.
We also shouldn’t forget about the 800 people murdered in Chicago in 2021, that is shameful that our country allows it to happen and doesn’t even care to fix it. It should not be the status quo.
No, if only Texans were smart enough NOT to vote for Ted Cruz and Greg Abbott. But they’re not. They’re going to keep voting them in and keep voting for republicans. I feel sorry for the kids who lost their lives and their futures. I feel sorry for the parents who didn’t vote for Cruz and Abbott. But for the ones who did vote for them, I have no sympathy. They deserve this
I absolutely support gun bans (no reason why a citizen should own an AR) but I cannot stand the fake tears and acting from Hollywood and people like Jimmy.
I just wish we could have less polarizing idiots to be the face of gun control. If there were more people that have proven to be honest operators with politics (not anyone from MSM or late night shows) that could be the face of gun control, then we could bring the left and right together politically and socially and create the movement that America needs.

Yeah, it is quite mind boggling. It is terrifying just how programmed people can be to think a certain way. A bunch of rich/powerful people convinced several generations that gun ownership is a right that supplants all other rights. They convinced people that the world was a scary place, so they needed a gun to be safe, and that it was a way to prevent the government from going rogue. Deprogramming people takes a lot. As an indian, who have never even seen or heard how a gun sounds in his entire life. This is truly devastating. This tragedy brought me to tears. Unfortunately these incidences are all too common in the US because of how easily and readily guns are made available to the general public. In my country, you have to undergo several trainings and assessment in order to get a legal gun. You also need to draft an essay showcasing your need for a gun. These are very preventable tragedies if only your leaders would listen. Also, Ted cruz is a moron.
Considering what I’ve read recently about India, the types of religions that you practice which involve cannibalism and your chaste society, I’ll take my country with my guns. At least here we don’t consume each other in the name of religion. And we don’t have class order based upon birth.
One day Ted Cruz will say that please send your children in bulletproof vests to school, otherwise keep them at home and continue their learning through online education.
Mayank Singh, I’m sure he sends his kids to a private school with protection for them so nothing will happen to them. Unfortunately America dosent have the money or want to spend more money for the protection of the kids and teachers. Well they want the teachers to pay for their own guns and training. That’s not what they went to school for. I’m sure one day when the go to school it will be mandatory to take self defense and classes cops take for self defense.
Mayank Singh, also my son was in the 9th grade and had to do online school because of Covid-19 with no vaccine and he did well better cause there was no distractions it was just him and the school’s provided lab top watching the teacher I’m fortunate to make sure he stayed focused.

This was the most erudite and heart felt response to the shootings in Uvalde. As a Brit who was around when Dunblane, Scotland happened in 1986 and Hungerford in 1987, I was sickened by the effect of irreverent and lax use of the gun laws in our country. But no right-minded, sane and compassionate individual person would every feel that tightening gun laws in this country was not the right thing to do. The USA is, in the eye of the WORLD, so backward in it's ideology. It aspires to greatness, to be the beacon for every country to follow, but how far it falls short in this one simple position. It's politicians would rather see children and teachers brutally killed than have the courage to wield a pen to stop this insanity. Basing a whole political ideology on a 230+ year old document that includes an AMENDMENT to its original constitution just seems, to the sane first world countries, as simply bizarre. Should we, as Britain's, rely on the doctrine of the Magna Carta of 1215, to define all of our underlying laws and principles? Hell no. We evolve, we move our democracies forward and we hope to become something better than our predecessors. Jimmy, I was humbled by your oratory. Thankfully there is some flickering of belief that people, wherever they are from, have the compassion to be a friend unto friend. Unfortunately the political agenda in the US is influenced by too many specialist groups that aim to distort the original OVER-RIDING ethos of your founding fathers. My heart goes out to those that suffered in this last week and to any American who feels that change must happen.

What has he or Obama (in 8 years of presidency) done for this never ending problem? Nothing? Then, what's the difference of who's the President? it's been 23 years since Columbine, and NOTHING has changed, whether it was a Republican or a Democrat in Office. And correct me if I'm wrong, it may be a coincidence, but during Trump's term, there were less mass shootings than during Obama's term (the first or second one), and Biden's, so far. I repeat, it may be a coincidence, but I'm just saying, even now that Biden is the President, things are not any better. And he seems to not be able to do something about it, just like Obama couldn't, in 8 years. So I'm asking, what's the difference of who's in the Office?

David: I agree wholeheartedly. I just cried all day when this happened. Those in Congress who will not pass the laws on assault weapons care more about their jobs, as they are in the pockets of the NRA and the gun lobby. Shame on these spineless senators, as well as Governor Abbott!
@@anonymousjohnson976 You do realize that there was a 10 year federal assault weapons ban. 1994 to 2004. Studies showed it didn't do anything. There was no evidence that showed a decrease in crime or shootings. Because rifles in general are rarely used in crimes. It doesn't work.
This was a fantastic speech. So full of honest emotion and raw pain for those who are losing children in these shootings. Thank you for allowing us to see your heart and tears for those lost.
From Sweden. My heart is broken for every family that lost a family member in all these mass shootings. 27 mass shootings in 21 weeks, that´s not freedom! Armed guards at schools, that´s not freedom! Send children to school and be worried about mass shootings, that´s not freedom! Own a weapon to defend yourself, that´s not freedom! You can buy a gun when you are 18 but not beer. Weapons are legal in all countries but there are laws. Your leaders know it but are too cowardly to do anything about it
> Armed guards at schools, that´s not freedom! What about people in power and politicians? They all have armed guards. > Send children to school and be worried about mass shootings, that´s not freedom! You should be more worried when driving your kid to school since more children die in fatal car crashed than in school shootings. > Own a weapon to defend yourself, that´s not freedom! Tell that to Taliban and Vietnamese. > You can buy a gun when you are 18 but not beer. And? > Weapons are legal in all countries but there are laws. This isn't true at all.
@@crossrhodes14 -Classic whataboutism. People in power and politicians aren't children in grade school so these two aren't remotely comparable. -Actually, gun deaths just overtook car crashes as the leading cause of death amongst US children, so maybe we should address that instead of being feckless cowards. -This isn't Afghanistan and I must have missed the news articles about all the mass shootings in Vietnam. I love this mentality that some people have that they constantly need to be strapped to defend themselves. Like, who do you think you are? Who's out to get you exactly? You're NOT that important. There aren't gangs of people waiting around every corner to attack you. -And that's incredibly stupid. If kids that age can't be trusted with a Bud Light then they shouldn't be trusted with deadly weapons. -This country's laws about weapons clearly aren't working since this problem is older than I am (and I was born in the 1980s) and only seems to be getting worse. We can't just keep doing absolutely nothing and trodding out the same tired 'thoughts & prayers'.
@@Urmom-mm6dk I personally would start by reinstating the assault weapons ban as well as the ban on high capacity magazines. These didn't fix the problem before but they definitely helped, which is backed by statistics. After that, they should institute a voluntary buyback program at the federal level, which has worked well in other countries like Australia and has worked well here when they tried it on a smaller scale within states. No one's ever going to get rid of guns entirely in this country (nor should they) and this problem certainly won't be fixed quickly, but we badly need to reduce the number in circulation and make it much harder for people to get a hold of them so easily.
@@ace2311 I know it seems crazy for some that tragedies bring people to the brink of tears more than once in their lives. But people with empathy kinda work like that, don't be shocked if he's emotional about massacres in the future either. Not everyone can be a proud psychopath, unaffected by all.
The most famous line in “Killing Them Softly” movie: “United States is not a country, it’s a business!” That is why the gun control issue will not be fixed.
I wont be fixed because this is the only time we talk about it , the amount of people shot killed across america day to day is crazy. You could probably connect most of them to young people probably over 80% and also connect them to gangs , bullying, mental health issues.

It has taken me years to change my way of thinking.

Wasn't Kimmel trashing Trump for 4 years (and still continues to do so), and showed his support for Biden and voted for him to kick Trump out of the Office, and contributed to put this very competent politician as the President?

-This isn't Afghanistan and I must have missed the news articles about all the mass shootings in Vietnam.
