    Thanks for all of the Android/Samsung device coverage for artists Brad. I've been feeling more and more stifled by iOS here lately but really love the portable tablet drawing experience. Your videos have convinced me to give the S8 Plus a shot, which should arrive in a couple of days. Can't wait to get drawing with it. Might even go for the Ultra if I really end up liking it. Cheers!

      I went from an iPad Pro, to a Galaxy Book 360, to a Tab Ultra… By FAR, the best drawing and overall experience is the Ultra. Windows was constantly having to update, and was slow, buggy and hot. iPad Pro was a fantastic drawing experience (for years), but iOS was infuriating, and even the 12.9 was too crowded. The Tab Ultra is the exact dream machine/OS for me, at least for art. Massive screen, gorgeous OLED, the EMR experience which gives you hover capability (unlike the iPad), far better palm rejection than the Windows machine, zero heat, zero noise… I’m kind of in heaven 😃

    Thank you for this comparing both, I really enjoy your reviews.
    I have been looking at both, because i am not that happy with my 2nd gen iPad (it has light pixels and gets warm).
    I am leaning towards the book2 360, because both are a lot of money and it is a full computer, maybe more versatile because of it. Also some programs are one time payments for PC, but subscription based as App which I don't like.
    The Book2 360 would also be easier to write on on my lap, which I often do.
    The Ultra is really nice too and is tempting, but like you I like to drag things from folders.
    Well, good thing I don't have the money to spare, so I still don't need to decide anything (and the iPad is not dead yet).
    Greetings from germany 😉

      I think Samsung has a sidecar like feature for its tablets though. That may mean that you can get the tablet and just use it as your laptops graphics tab. Would probably be a better choice as it seems the laptop has limited power for a lot of the other things you might want to do depending on whether you are solely an illustrator or use heavier apps like Figma, Blender, etc.

I am passionate about design and I am also a student so I am now thinking of buying the tablet and looking for a more powerful Window PC somewhere down the line for heavier works. I wish other OEMs would start using Wacom EMR again. Say, ASUS with their Flow line. And they've use EMR before, on budget devices even. There are also niche devices out there with Wacom EMR that don't break the bank. Yet we now get saddled with MPP, or Samsung's locked down version of EMR.

    I also use a small keyboard and mouse with it, not the Samsung attachment since its not that good but a regular logitech pebble mouse and this works really good.
    I got myself an Uktrabook to be more productive, but after a few days it wasn't really doing it for me, since it wouldn't be much better at the "working" stuff, but way worse at "entertainment" stuff and you'd also have the hassle with windows etc.

My go-to video editing program is windows only (also the kind of videos I’m editing doesn’t need the beefiest machine to render). I will bring it around a lot so I need a lightweight and portable machine. Also it’ll replace my iPad for casual drawing. Will be weird not using procreate, but I know there’s great apps on windows too. I think this will be the right PC for me, at least I hope so. I wanted to get these because of that EMR tech, but I decided to get a samsung flex 2 alpha that was on sale for around $500.
    It has the inferior MPP 2.0 technology for the pen. (you will get squiggly lines)
    It has a QLED screen
    I got the 1135G7/8 GB RAM version because I am using it just to draw art nothing else.
    I am not a professional artist.
    So for me it works. The thing I hate about the MPP 2.0 tech is that they DO NOT LET YOU CONTROL PEN PRESSURE CONTROL UNLESS YOU BUY THE MICROSOFT PROPRIETARY PEN!!!
    That almost made me return it because that microsoft pen was like 100$ more. At that point I could have probably found a galaxy book pro 360 (not book2, the older one) on sale for 750 or 850 later in the year. However, I would not be learning how to digital paint if I did that.
    There is no laptop with a decent screen (FRECKIN QLED!!) and Passable pen technology (MPP 2.0) That I have seen for around $500. If you go to best buy you may get it open box for $450, and that's from people who opened it, realized it didn't have EMR and sent it back almost brand new!!
    So I am happy as of now. Maybe when I get a better job I can get the more expensive things.

    Hi Brad, thank you for your video. I have been looking for a new laptop for graphic design and art. This Galaxy Book caught my attention and I am glad you made a review. Now, I recently purchased an hp laptop but I am going through a dilema. Ever since I started in graphic design, I've had trouble with color between devices. Whatever I designed in my old laptop just looks different on my phone, because the colors look more vibrant on my phone. I have try different methods to make sure the colors are similar: set the file to rgb color mode, export to PNG, used adobe color app from my phone to choose the colors based on my phone screen, changed the color mode on my phone. But no matter what I do, it looks different. I purchased my new laptop because it said it has FHD IPS screen, 100% sRGB, 300% nits, and according to some online articles these values should be pretty good. However once I tried it, I got the same problem, though the difference was not as notable as my in old laptop. I am currently on a budged and it would be hard to afford a $1000+ laptop. What should I do to achieve the same colors between devices. I guess I should be doing something wrong. Or what windows laptop is out there that has good level color acuracy, for good price?

    • @NHarts3
      @NHarts3 2 года назад

      Theres a little device called a spyder(? I think?) And it calibrates the colour for your screens automatically. I dont have one, they're kinda pricey, but I have a friend that loans hers out to fellow graphic designers and artists that she knows. So try and find someone you know who's in design or photography or art and ask if they have such a device (it takes like an hour or so to callibrate so you would only need to loan it for a day)

    • @mrartistimo1530

      The reason that colours look more vibrant on your phone is likely for two reasons:
      1. Phone screens are crazy bright, With Iphones reaching 1000 nits, and some androids reaching 1200 and even 1600 if I recall correctly.
      2. Phones typically set to a vibrant colour profile, not an accurate one.

    I'm currently looking into a mobile work laptop. currently stuck between a surface studio/surface 3 or a samsung book2 360. I'm in the situation that I need a machine that can do simple after effects/premiere editing, animation and illustration. This review comes up just at the right time, as I'm still trying to decide what to spend money on!

      I think the Galaxy Book has the edge there, especially if you are using a Galaxy Smartphone (bit I don't know about that). Performance wise their pretty similar and should both get the work done. Samsung is closely working together with intel to make sure the chips are optimised for Galaxy. Btw the Galaxy Book2 Pro has the latest version of the Intel processor

    • @theinktician
      @theinktician 2 года назад +2

      None of these sound like the device for you if Premiere, after effects, and animation are what you're trying to do. You need a GPU to do these effectively and without artifacts popping up in your works/videos. Research on video editing laptops

      @@emmanuelmayr5895 ooh good point!!! I'm mostly tempted to go with the 13 inch i7 16gbram version if I can get it at a local store. Also because the pens are made together with wacom I trust them to be better ? I'll just have to get usbc adapters for my TV paint dongle.
      I feel like with the surface I'd mostly just... pay partially the extra money for the brand?

    • @SirisLayer
      @SirisLayer 2 года назад +1

      @@theinktician well I've never had an issue with artifacts on my older Devices. I only do 2d animation mostly frame by frame and importing image sequences and exporting them from Premiere or after effects isn't all that taxing in my experience. Plus for bigger projects I will still be using my Desktop PC most times. I just need something that will allow me to do these things when I have to go into clients offices for a day or so yknow?

    I have both. Pen feels the same, so no ghost dots or problems with the palm rejection.
    I hate when youtubers claim the display is not good just because its only full HD. The display is actually wonderful and i was pleasantly Surprised. Not worried about pixels on a 15 inch screen. honestly don't notice them like I thought I would.
    With my use, the tablet battery died quickly . Was extremely upset with that.
    The laptop battery lasts for a great deal of time with casual use, and you can turn the fans off.
    dex can be used with the laptop. Or can use samsung flow to mirrior and control your phone and apps. And there are other apps on the laptop that communicate with your phone.
    I sent that stupid ultra tablet back. During setup, it said something about setting up my "phone"? How lazy of samsung.
    At least the laptop is not just a blown up phone with ugly unpolished apps.
    The UI is so ugly on a 14 inch screen. Samsung made no effort to give this huge tablet any special software features.

    $350 for that keyboard is asinine. $250 would still be laughable. Even $125 would be a stretch. Yeah, it's backlit, but backlit keyboards start at about $20 for your computer. The thing doesn't contain an extra battery to extend the life of the tablet or anything. Honestly, asking $100 for this thing would still be an insult, especially with their sub-par trackpad. I'd cave at $60, but they're asking Nintendo Switch dollars. The new one, with the OLED screen dollars. I'd rather have a folio cover and a separate bluetooth keyboard that I can use with anything, and those things combined would run about $60.

      I agree with you. I got a really nice mechanical backlit keyboard with 63 keys that can do multiple devices via bluetooth and can also work with a wire as well (or while charging). I will probably get S8 for portability and drawing, but no way I'll bother with their official keyboard because the price tag is simply a ripoff (companies tend to to this sort of thing all the time). I'm a linux guy so I prefer Android over Windows any day. And Krita working on Android is simply mindblowing!
