      Same here. Although it still urks me how Studio would reuse stock footage, as what happened in Godzilla vs Megagurius with the use of the Gigan clips.
      But if anything else, I want Godzilla vs Kong to fully embrace the Showa Era wackiness. Like have a special edition with Monster voiceovers.

    To me, this was always the definitive Showa Godzilla. The two movies that I point people to in the Showa Era are Invasion of the Astro-Monster, and Godzilla vs. King Kong. To me, both were what defines Godzilla of that era.

    This was the first Godzilla movie that I ever saw. My mom literally bought this for me from an end cap from shoprite. I used to have to always turn the volume down everytime the monsters would destroy the city. Without this, I wouldn't have gotten into Godzilla.

    That sinister laugh at 1:17! I remember seeing this in the retro theater and the laugh plus the slow fade of the aliens in the background was memorable! This shows that kids don't need million dollar blockbusters to fire their imagination. I was totally into this! Still am!

    It is pretty clear that you are doing a sort of weekly video of a Godzilla/Kaiju film on the journey towards Godzilla: King of the Monsters. I love that you are doing it and I hope you don't let up. Don't stop short of analyzing the modern era as well, Shin Godzilla, G14, and the Godzilla Anime Trilogy....I know you've addressed some of those films in some ways before...but 'reviews' in the same style as these videos would be very cool.

    Love this movie! I remember first seeing this back in the mid 1970’s on a show called Shock Theater. I was hooked on Kaiju movies from then on. The astronauts helmets always crack me up!! They were the worst!!
    That’s my only negative comment about this fun movie.
    You can see the real chemistry between Nick Adams & Kumi Muzuno. No wonder he chased after her while filming. Akiro Kubo is great as the nerdy boyfriend. He is a really versatile actor. He can play a comedic role as in the movie or a very serious part like in Destroys All Monsters.

    Personally I wasn’t that irritated that they added stock footage and find it to be more of a memorable moment from Rodan (1956). The plan from the Xiliens make sense to me at least and pretty straight forward which is basically aliens trying to take over the world. The monsters do sometimes feel like a after thought but I feel like the monster action makes up for it.
    I love this movie better than the last and give this movie a 5/5 and it’s possibly one of my favorite films from the Showa Era (for now).
    Great Review though! 👍🏽

    Going back through and watching/ranking Godzilla and Kong movies before GvK drops, and sometimes checking out what you have to say on the movies since you have a real movie critic/G-fan feel. I enjoyed this one, honestly, but I think it's better in concept than execution. Tbh I think our thoughts on Astro Monster and the Ghidorah movie prior are just flipped, likely because of my nostalgia. Out of 10 movies I've watched so far, this one probably falls around 7th.

  • @timmadone8930

    It might be the first movie in the Godzilla series to use stock footage, but, it wasn't the first Japanese kaiju movie to use stock footage. That honor goes to "Varan" which took a scene right out of 1954's "Godzilla" & tried to use it as it's own. The scene in question is when Varan's tail is supposedly smashing the roof of a building. But the actual scene is of Godzilla's tail smashing the top of a roof. It's very obvious to anyone who's scene the 1954 "Godzilla" numerous times.

    • @3912James
      @3912James 3 года назад

      They used the background part of Godzilla's roar (when he was about to die from that oxygen deprivation device. If you listen carefully you hear what would eventually be Varan's/Baragon's/Gorosauruses roar) from 1954 and Rodan's roar to create Varan's roar.

    *Initial Reaction* This comment is towards the general public, not the man who published this video. This movie along with Godzilla 1984 and Godzilla Vs. Biollante are the only movies I have yet to see, just watched this on Starz.com before I purchase the blu-ray. In my opinion, if you loved this movie for the monster action, you can't say Godzilla (2014) did not have enough of it. Godzilla is hardly a subplot (Visually) in this film, he, Rodan and Ghidrah are used solely to carry the plot into the final 10-15 minutes of good stuff. I'm not saying it was a bad movie, but it hardly felt like I was watching a Godzilla movie in the sense of Kaiju action. However, despite all of this, it was original, well paced and for the MOST part, the plot made sense. If you watch this solely for monsters, you're initial reaction will be my first sentence, or worse, but for what it is, it brings variety to the series. Also, pretty good SFX for the time considering Ebirah horror of the deep was a year later. Also last favorable Godzilla suit until Destroy all Monsters and I wish they would've stuck with the original 1956 Rodan look. 3/5 Stars.

    Oddly, in the print that I have, all of Nick Adams's dialogue has been dubbed into Japanese. I can't say that this helped my appreciation of the picture. For the first half-hour or so I enjoyed this almost as much as you did; but I think it was a case of too little monster action too late. I guess I have to try again, because I fell asleep on the damn thing....

      As much as i agree, i think the simple answer is how expensive or difficult to make fully believable cgi monsters, vs filming suits, not that suits aren't hard work either, but certainly easier to film.

    • @Algeriawindows69
      @Algeriawindows69 Год назад

      @@inspectorwhoreacts nah cgi is easier to film since you can put the camera everywhere but when you try to film suit you need to choose camera angles that wouldn't make it obviously just a set with the background sky and also make wires as less visible as possible and the selling, but in cgi the only hard part is making the monster act and look realistic since the standards are very high nowadays with cg not the filming itself

Not like the crap CGI rubbish of these days which have a ugly deformed looking Godzilla with a really horrible face and tiny beady eyes and square chin. The original round faced Godzilla with those big eyes really were so good. the acting was very good and lot's of daftness and silly stuff making the original films so fun and great to watch. TOHO seemed to have lost the great special things which made these early films so lovely to watch?

    I honestly kinda think this film is overrated. Like the monsters barley get any screentime (especially Ghidorah), the movie is also very very slow, both fights in this film are also only about 2 minutes. And yes this is the first film in the franchise to use stock footage though it isn't as bad as in some later movies. However this movie has one of the best human story in the series, Nick Adams is also one of the best characters in the franchise, the special effects are also a step up from the last film, the music is also very good and even though the fights are very brief, they are still fun and entertaining. While this film in my opinion could have been better, this is still far from the worst Godzilla movie ever. I will give this film a 6.3/10.
