The connection is "I know a bitch named Della that hit harder than you"... Lemme know if further explanation is needed but I think it's a clever connection albeit small
A classic, had no connections to Life, other than the name drop. It was always Eddie's dream to work with his idol Richard Pryor in a movie, and ironically Richard Pryor saw Redd Foxx as Eddie saw him. Boomerang and Vampire in Brooklyn are 2 more Eddie Murphy classics.
This movie was Eddie Murphy’s directoral debut It’s a classic & was trashed by critics. Here are some fun facts: Della Reese appeared on Sanford & Son & her & Redd Foxx were on the short lived sitcom The Royal Family which was produced by Eddie Murphy. Tommy played by the late Tommy Ford was on the sitcom Martin where his name was Tommy as well. The dude that was crying was Arsenio Hall. He was also in Coming To America & had his own talk show. Dominique La Rue was played by Jasmine Guy. She was on the sitcom A Different World. Here are some sad facts: Redd Foxx suffered a heart attack on the set of the Royal Family which led to his death. Eddie Murphy produced the Royal Family. It was a vehicle for Redd Foxx making a comeback. Eddie Murphy & Della Reese were also in The Distinguished Gentleman. A lot of the cast have passed away such as: Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx, Della Reese, Robin Harris, Danny Aiello, Tommy Ford & Charlie Murphy. Eddie Murphy’s Uncle Ray was also in this movie. Biscuit played by Miguel Nunez said Life & Juwanna Man ruined his career.
Great breakdown. And I think I speak for most with Miguel if he would have stopped at life no one would have said a word Jawannaman was the one that made the rumors ramp up..IMO
@2:43 (later) Tommy! also known as "man, you ain't got no job" lol Whitely! (Jasmine guy) Sparks, sparks and sparks. Never knew his name. DJ, juwanna man, etc. @6:13 'Charlie Murphy'! @14:16 ARSENIOoooo... HALL!
I love this movie so much! It's so funny, beautifully costumes, perfectly casted, has so many Black actors in one place, and the score!!! I just love it!
In life when eddie says I know a itch named della hit harder than you this is woman he's talking about. Life is like the non official sequel to Harlem nights
I only think of “Trading Places” connecting to “Coming To America”. I guess the Boom Boom Room vision reminds of these Night Clubs. They should’ve called it Sugar Ray’s.
My goodness...not everything has a hidden meaning in the movies, damn. If writers and directors spend that much time in creating hidden meanings, there would be no movie. You spend so much time looking for hidden stuff that you lose part of the movie.
Everyone was excited when it was announcedthat Eddie Murphy & Richard Pryor would do a movie together but this mess is what we got. Eddie Murphy was the director & he blew it. The gratuitous use of racial slurs & the waste of an all star cast are 2 of the negatives about this movie. Also if you ever watch the Spike Lee movie "School Days" that j-word is used to insult the Black characters with dark complexions
This movie has nothing to do with Life. Some people just like to speculate
They’re referring to when Ray fought Gold Mouth & said, I know a bitch named Vera that hit harder.
The connection is "I know a bitch named Della that hit harder than you"... Lemme know if further explanation is needed but I think it's a clever connection albeit small
In the movie "Life", Eddie made a reference to this movie. That must be what people are talking about.
Eddie says "I know a beach named Della that hits harder than you" when he fought Bear. Small reference to the fight in Harlem Nights.
Eddie Murphy was unstoppable in the '80's😂
This is one of the funniest movies ever. I can recite entire scenes verbatim. 80s Eddie Murphy is just unstoppable.

Great Reaction !!!!!!! Classic cast 🎬
I never knew this was connected to life, wow factor
If you haven't seen Eddie in the horror comedy Vampire in Brooklyn, give it a watch sometime (preferably after Blacula and Scream Blacula Scream).
The connection to Life is when Ray was getting beat up by Goldmouth he said "I know an old bixch named Della that hits harder than that".
I was 13 watched this brand new!
Tell Jenna’s cute, flighty ass I said hi 😂😂😂
