What's great about this movie is, not only is it a perfect love letter/parody of those 70s Blacksploitation movies, it's also just a genuinely good Blacksploitation movie that would not be out of place at all in the 70s.

Black Dynamite is one of those rare birds I call a "perfect film". Every frame has purpose. I'm so glad you watched this and I'm so glad you got it. Rock on wit yo bad selves.
If you can find it, there is an alternate cut from pre-release screeners that is even funnier than the DVD release/streaming version. I can't quite explain it, but it's in the editing.

This is one of the funniest movies ever made. Craziest thing to me is that, while it's being super-meta in breaking the 4th wall, they went through so much effort to never break the 4th wall when it came to the blacksploitation time period. There's never a shot of anything post-70's. Never an accidental shot of a modern car in the background, or a prop, a building, a sign, a piece of clothing that was made after the 70's. Even the helicopter and the bikes the kids rode...70's. That's a level of pre-planning and attention to detail that i dont think most folks understand. It's nuts.

Black Dynamite had me from the jump, but when he kicks his nunchucks offscreen and a crewmember tosses them back I nearly died laughing. My buddy and I had to rewind because we missed the next five minutes or so 🤣🤣🤣

It's a loving homage to blacksploitation and hits every note perfectly. I hope you two can dive into some of the classics eventually.
Not only that, but they were the same three men he just threw out the window, a scene prior. And I think they were back outside, when he gave chase to Chicago Wind. Love subtle humor like that. 😂😂

Chocolate Giddy Up breaks me everytime!
This is one the greatest movies of all time. I have watched it quite a few times and will usually catch little subtleties that I missed in previous watch throughs.
One of the best parodies ever because it absolutely NAILS everything about the aesthetic of 70s blaxploitation films. There are a lot of meta jokes about low budget filmmaking packed in, and they shot it on 16mm color reversal stock to really replicate the look. Out of context, by sight alone, it could easily be mistaken for a real 70s blaxploitation movie...it was clearly made by people who know and love the genre, and that's what makes it work.
Roger Yuan, who played Fiendish Dr. Wu, is also in _Dune: Part One_ and its upcoming sequel. He is also the fight coordinator, and he will fight against Austin Butler's character, Feyd-Rautha.
I just love how someone can work in two completely different films, in terms of budget, scale, production...
His brother, Ron, is an actor and stunt coordinator.
Didn't expect this movie to have so much Airplane-like goofy humor throughout it, but I sure not upset about it. Gosh darn riot!

CRIMINALLY underrated when it was released, with a lot of references to actual blacksploitation films, e.g. Black dynamites incredible combat noises are heavily inspired by the 75 film Black Belt Jones (which, alas, are nowhere near as good).
Where is Bucky and what has he had? is taken straight from the Rudy Ray Moore classic Avenging Disco Godfather.

One thing that I don't know is many people appreciate is the attention to detail that was done to make everything look like an actual movie shat in the 70's. Every costume, every car, every building, everything looks exactly like something from the 70's.
I think the attention to detail should also be acknowledged.

Black Dynamite and Undercover Brother are Epic movies.
This is one of the best parodies of the blaxploitation genre out there. Tons of quotable lines and Michael Jai White and the rest of the cast are having a blast.

A good chunk of this movie was filmed on Crenshaw Blvd were I grew up. The Rooster Club, the "Doughnut" place, the pool club, the cemetery. And they used an old camera to give that dated feel... so the film itself was super old.
The soundtrack amazing. The cast is legit! Eliza from Gargoyles being in it! Honeybee is the best. Also love the bit "I threw that shit before I came into the room!" because it just so perfectly highlights lazy filmmaking and absurd plot devices. I was very fortunate to have seen this movie in theaters when it came out in theaters around 2008 or 09.

Oh yes, the Rudy Ray Moore stuff is highly recommended, especially Dolemite.

I'm surprised that you two actually made it thru this movie without gasping for air, because there's too many laugh it loud moments to even count, but to mention all the stuff that you could've missed because you were laughing so much at the previous bit 😂. The animated show is almost as funny, so you guys should give that a look-see as well, because even though most of the side characters died in the movie, they return in the show.

I am always surprised that nobody seems to catch that one of the pimps (the first name we hear, if I recall) is named Kotex.
The unnecessary split screen when they kill Jimmy at the beginning. That's the moment I knew I was going to love this movie when I first saw it.
This move is one of the GREATEST CINEMATIC MASTERPIECES EVER CREATED! It's 10/10 across the board. A pure passion project that has provided the few fortunate eyes that have seen it limitless hours of laughs and memes.

It's the names for characters in, not just the movie but the animated series. The names of the pimps are gold; Tasty Freeze, Chocolate Giddy Yup, what the f**k, Lol. I remember that one episode of Black Dynamite had Fiendish Dr Woo's Tang Clan, and another where Kream Korn mentioned him and Bullhorn getting killed just like in the movie, but it was a dream he had. Also, Abraham Lincoln's ghost showed up, dud that one move, and then left is to this day so hilarious, why??? Who thought of that? Lmao

Loved it, because I grew up on a lot of these Blacksploitation movies as a child. The only problem with this movie is some of the references may be lost on younger generations.

Indeed. You can still find the trailer, where they market him as an NFL player (ala Fred Williamson, Jim Brown) and Gloria as a beauty pageant queen (Pam Grier). I instantly knew what they were going for when I saw the trailer. 😂

I read somewhere that the scene where they forgot to put the car in park was an actual mistake they made that they left in because it fit so well.
Fun fact: that scene where the guy forgot to put the parking brake on during the shoot-out was real. Micheal jai white and the director talked about it at a comic-con (I can’t remember which one, it’s somewhere on RUclips) they were watching a rollback of the scene and caught it. They thought it was so funny, and in the spirit of blaxploitation films having unedited errors, they kept that take in
The voice acting is as brilliant on the TV series. The chicken and waffles joke is a running gag in it as well.
I went to an early screening in Oakland with both director and star in attendance! I answered a trivia question and had a choice of either a bootleg copy of Shaft or a bootleg copy of Dr. Black Mr. Hyde. I chose Shaft because A: it seemed more apropos, and B: I already had a copy of Dr. Black Mr. Hyde
One of the best films ever made.
