During the early 2000's, I worked as a pool-table installer and got to install a table for Steve Guttenberg at his Pacific Palisades home. He is a very nice guy in person, and had a lot of unique and humanitarian awards; one that struck me as neat was Honorary Mayor of Pacific Palisades. After finishing the table install, he invited me to play a round of pool to test out his new table, making him the only customer I ever played pool with.
Rest in Peace to the lovely Marion Ramsey, who played the cute, sweet, but dangerous Officer Hooks. We lost her at the start of this year, but I absolutely adored her role in this Movie Series.
Hooks was always my favorite, I always wanted to protect her even as a kid...then the flip when she finds her voice is the greatest thing. It hurts just like when we lost Tackleberry and Hightower.
A bit of movie trivia pointed out to me recently: During the shotgun training range where (I think it's) Cadet Barbara accidentally shoots the cutout of the little girl, then sweeps the cadets behind him? The only one who didn't duck was Tackleberry (because as a gun...we'll say 'afficionado', he was paying enough attention to see that Barbara hadn't racked a new shell, & therefore knew the gun was safe (relatively speaking. Hahaha)). I do enjoy the little attention to detail...
Glad I'm not the only one who caught that- he even "shakes his head" at everyone ducking- because they don't have to and are acting like scared children.
@BPhillipdDrummer: You're correct, it was Barbara who accidentally fired the shotgun at the wrong cutout Another piece of trivia is that prior to filming, all of the actors actually trained with a real police academy in all of these tactics, Kim Cattrall being especially proficient on the firing range Steve Guttenberg had pulled a few strings himself to go through the same training as his father was a police officer himself

Last summer on lockdown I rewatched the whole series (last watched a lot of them when they were new-ish) and was surprised at how consistent they were until the last few when Gutenberg finally left
It was meant to be more lewd and raunchy, but the director kept insisting that they toned it down and several scenes were not shot, but were added to later movies. The scriptwriters kept clashing with the director about the lewdness and almost quit.

The biggest laugh this movie got out of me waaaaaay back when I saw it in the eighties as a kid was the part where Mahoney is casually drinking the beer while staring at the showering female cadets, Harris busts him and takes the beer. He then leans over the rail and really looks, like he didn't realize what Mahoney was doing there, the women start screaming, and Harris tries to do this forced casual stance that fails miserably. I'd like to see what Emily makes of Porky's. The podium scene reminded me of the way that the slow-burn scene in the principal's office always kills me whenever I watch Porky's. That one long shot is a perfect example of letting an extended, unedited take build the comedy and relying on the actors' reactions create effortless comedy out of basically nothing.
If that isn't in the top 5 funniest scenes in the history of the cinema...then you need to replace the judges on that survey.
The only thing is the best line is from the edited for tv version. When asked what to say to a burglar Takleberry says “Drop that stereo before I blow your gosh darn knees off egg roll”.
Definitely one of the funnier edits I've ever heard.
The Lessard podium scene where you two just cracked up was AWESOME! The first few in this series were AWESOME!
Just wait 'til she sees the one where Bobcat Goldthwaite joins the academy. XD
You know, I have seen Emily dying from laughter several times (who put that crab there? there were two of them, they always work in pairs!) but the podium scene is the first time I've actually feared for her life. Glad you enjoyed this movie. Keep up the good work, guys, and get well soon, Matthew.
I hope you can do more police acadamy movies, there is a bunch of them....my favorite here was captain Harris...he really did this movie...
"If Lloyd Bridges and Leslie Nielsen had a love child" .....imagery Emily, imagery 🤯🤯
Your reaction to this classic comedy....was absolutely PURE GOLD! LOVED IT!
Tackleberry was the other member that was in all the films of the series. And definitely was my favorite of all the characters.
god her voice is glorious. i could listen to her read the phone book.
My dad and I would go watch these everytime a new one came out. It was our guys day out.
I REALLY have to thank you lady....your laugh at the "podium scene" was what I needed to laugh a little today too...thank you so much...today was a hard day. Leslie Nielsen is a GENIUS!
All of the Police Academy films are great, never gets old 😄
They really lose a lot of their charm after Gutenberg left the series. The guy they got to "replace" him wasn't nearly as funny. Personally I stop watching after Part 4.
I watched this recently and it has got very old.
Are u sure about that?
@@Thundarr100 Eh, he was ok. Definitely not on the same humor level as Guttenberg though. He's great on those Hartford commercials though these days (yep, that's him).
@@alucard624 Like I said, not nearly as funny as Guttenberg. I'm not saying that he was terrible, just that Guttenberg was SO MUCH better.
Ah, yes, the Blue Oyster Bar. Haven't seen that place in decades. And I didn't know what made me laugh more - the movie or Emily's cracking up. :-) Great reaction! Keep it up!
That is the dad from Punky Brewster. The Commandant
Lassard's reaction to the shoe polish has me scream-laughing every single time. I'm surprised it didn't make the cut.
One of my all time favorite comedies! CLASSIC
14:52 was the funniest part but the Mrs was sure triggered....lol.
GW Bailey (Lt Harris) plays a similar character in the film Mannequin (1987), Kim Cattrall (Cadet Thompson) as the love interest in that one too. Great comedy worth a watch, lots of other well known actors in it. Dont think its on the list
Please tell me Emily hasn’t seen Porky’s and that she do that some day
I have been conducting infernal rituals and sacrifices to get PORKY'S on this channel.
They so need to do a reaction to Porky's, if only the first one. The sequels were meh.
God I love this film so much, they used to show the cleaned up version on Saturday afternoons when I was little. It’s 1:30 in the morning here and I’m crying with laughter in to my pillow so I don’t wake the wife next to me! 🤣. I had the music from the Blue Oyster as my ringtone for a very long time in the mid 00s. It was fun seeing the ones that knew the tune smile when it rang while out shopping. 🤣🤣 There’s to many moments to pick from for me.
Mouse Rat is one of the GREATEST shirts I've ever seen but then again a COOL MAN wears it.
Honestly, I would watch a 2 hour movie of Michael Winslow and still not be satisfied.
Funny man. The only issue, I saw his stand up show about 10 yrs ago, it's almost all the same material from the movies.
Oh yes. That all saga is epically funny. Thanks for reacting to it.
Great reaction you guys! I hope Mathew has a speedy recovery! The woman in the podium was the star of the Adult Movie, Devil in Mrs. Jones.
I was genuinely not expecting this but I am all for it. Veeeery good choice y'all!
George Gaines was the old man in Punky Brewster
My favorite scenes were all of the "This is the house. I am the burglar." moments.
I wouldn't let Tackleberry get near the firing range or near any guns in the Academy.
