Pat Proft, about the Charlie/Martin Sheen joke: « Joe Roth, the head of the studio, was also very supportive. If on the set, a joke or a visual came up, no matter the cost, they'd let us do it. One day, I had the idea of a vietnam era boat passing Topper Harley's. There, we find Martin Sheen from Apocalypse Now. They point at each other as they pass one another shouting, « I loved you in Wall Street! ». A great joke but it costed six figures to make. We had to fly in a boat and get Martin. But Roth knew how great a joke that was so the studio popped for it. »
Topper is writing in his journal as Chris, the character he played in 'Platoon'. That joke is so damned deep and could only be pulled off by the Sheens. It was worth the money.

This line was so damn funny to me when I saw this movie as a kid, that I kept rewinding the tape to watch the Miguel Ferrer's face over and over again. Laughed till I had tears streaming down my face.
The part where Lloyd Bridges is SCUBA diving and doing a voice over is an homage to one of his early TV roles (he did many movie beforehand) in a show called "Sea Hunt" (1958-1961) in which he played a SCUBA diver who would have an underwater adventure each week and would narrate in voice overs.
Lloyd Bridges is as funny as ever and perfectly cast in his final film, Jane Austen's Mafia!. A wildly goofy fun spoof of The Godfather and mafia crime movies and such.
Lloyd Bridges, Leslie Nielsen, Robert Stack and Richard Crenna were known initially for their dramatic roles but they really were amazing in the comedy films they were in
