One of the very few perfect movies ever made.
So much fun.
here here
It is Carpenter at neither his best nor his worst, but his _goofiest_. And thus it is glorious.
An unironic fave! The DVD commentary is the best between John Carpenter & Kurt
I miss DVD commentaries. The last one I listened to was Dude Where's My Car I think
I might try and find that commentary.
@Syntell Def check it out its great
Speaking of Rush Hour, John Carpenter originally wanted Jackie Chan to play the role of Wang, but the studio was concerned with Jackie’s grasp of English. Ultimately, Dennis Dun was cast and nailed it.
Jack is Wang's less than bright sidekick and Margo is Gracie's less than bright sidekick
Perfect comparison.
An all time fav of me and my dad. My dad even raised me to treat things like Jack Burton too, even if I come off as a dork. Also worked because my dad is black and mom is Chinese, and when the random Chinese stuff pop up in his life, he always be Jack
My favorite part of the wedding fight is when Egg Shen and Lo Pan play ancient Dystany Warriors using magic.
I'm a '70s kid, so I always see Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots. Especially Lo Pan's thumb wiggles.
Loved that scene. "You never could beat me Egg." And Egg talking about a long deserved vacation made think Egg is basically Gandalf in this universe.
(14:00) My favorite line right before Jack goes in is, "If I'm not back in five minutes call the president." I used to say that to my girlfriend before going to Walmart.
For Syntell - I know you’re familiar with D&D, but don’t know if you knew there was a tabletop role playing game called Feng Shui by Atlas Games, based on the same genre as Big Trouble, Magic Cop, Legend of Zu, all those Hong Kong action movies - it is super-easy to teach and amazing fun.
I'll look it up. Thank you for pointing it out to me.
Rekkai asks: "Why do people explain stuff like that... is that just a trope in movies?" Great spot!! It's so deliberate here that Carpenter even cuts to Wang giving side-eye about it... one of many "meta" moments :D
I think Starship Troopers is a good movie tbh
Jaby and I did a reaction to Starship Troopers a few months back. Check it out.
I watch this movie at least twice a year and I still enjoy it. Especially when I get to watch it with someone who's never seen it. This, Goonies and Overboard have that homey 80s feel-good romp feeling.
Watched this movie so many times perfect blend of comedy, fantasy, light horror, action and just buckets of fun.
This reaction will appease my Emperor indeed!
Rekkai was right on with the feeling for this movie as a reminder of a different time. Lots of movies like this in the 80's that were just fun and not like some serious indie movie. I don't think it was a big hit but def a cult classic. Kurt Russell was in a bunch of Disney flicks as a kid. He's been around for a long time. Thanks for reacting!
In my mind this movie, Golden Child, and The Last Dragon are in the same universe and no one can tell me different
I always assume a Reactor hasn’t seen the movie or show they’re reacting to so don’t feel shame. lol. Fun classic to watch
One of my all time favorite movies!!
Kurt Russell did portray Elvis in a film directed by John Carpenter.
15:06 you should see hurt Russell in "Miracle" about the young Olympic hockey team that played the tenured Soviets.
Now that's a great feel good movie.
When a character gives background information, or otherwise explains what’s going on in the plot so to orient the viewer, it’s called, exposition.
David Lo Pan is a legend
I was 16 when this came out and me and my brother watched this so many times that we knew every line in the movie word for word.
Fun fact: a lot of years ago, I wrote two official sequel novels, Big Trouble in Mother Russia, and Big Trouble in Merrie Olde England, both commissioned by 20th Century Fox.
Oh wow, really.
What happened?
@Syntell I don't think they're available any more. The first one got really complicated when it looked like Dwayne Johnson was going to star in a remake, and suddenly, Fox had a lot to say about what was in the book. But I'm happy to have played a part in continuing Jack Burton's adventures, as well as writing a few Doctor Who spinoffs, too.
Dude, that's amazing! Well done!
@@thatcarlchick7655 I deliberately left the second book on a cliffhanger, in the hopes that I'd get to write Big Trouble in Subterranean Seattle, but it never happened.
Rush Hour is a buddy cop movie. This is buddy fantasy movie because it's supernatural.
Movies like this makes me hate today's movies even more! Luv it!!! Funny reactions
Escape from New York is another classic
😉
John Carpenter's 2nd Best film (After "The Thing")
LOVED The Thing.
I would actually need to strap down Rekkai for that one.
This is one Of those movies that gets better the more you watch it.
Listen to his cadence and inflection. This is Kurt Russel's homage to John Wayne.
VHS classic. 😉
Yesssir.
I have read that Kurt Russell's performance in this is basically him as a John Wayne type of character, but kind of incompetent. Snake Pliskin from the Escape From New York/LA movies is his take on a Clint Eastwood type of character. If you think about the characters' mannerisms, it makes a lot of sense.
This was one of my favourite movies as kid
Two other fun cult flicks in a similar vein from the 80’s: “Repo Man,” and “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension.” The 80’s was the best time for fun stuff.
Literally watched BTILC a few days ago such a classic film.
Rain is also in "Golden Child"
Peter Kwong (aka Cliff in Never Too Young to Die / Bobby Nguyen in Gleaming the Cube / Henry in Angel Town)!
This movie inspired mortal kombat's Raiden like bloodsports Jean-Claude Van Damme was Johnny Cage
I can see the orginal references.
They say great artists steal.
I wanted to be Lighting when I was kid
Both Wang and Egg Shen are in Carpenter's 2nd story to "The Thing's" End of the World Trilogy "Prince Of Darkness" . The third one is "In The Mouth of Madness"
"A Trope explaing .." no it's just her character. she's supposed to be a little dim like Jack Burton
I don't know if you've seen They Live, but that one is definitely cult classic royalty. Longest fight scene in movie history.
I'm Genx, and one of my cousins, who is almost a full generation older than I am, absolutely loves The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, from 1984. If you haven't seen it, I'll suggest it on his behalf.🤓
I gave you like automatically because you made the intro of my favorite line.(what will come out of there no more?!?!). Plus, you get a pass because I can see your grey, which means you came from a VCR age. This also means you lived when there was a time, when you missed a show....you missed it. Too bad, so sad. You will be lucky if you see it again in 10 yrs on reruns... If you happen to be home then.😎😆
Rain is also in a recent Zombie Comedy Starring Elijah Wood and Rainn Wilson called "Cooties". It's about kids only being infected at a Grade School and attack the teachers.
One of my fave movies ,if you 2 havent seen it check out the football comedy Best of times with kurt russell and robin williams
Wow! I remember this movie when it came out but never watched it! ANOTHER GREAT CHOICE! But since I never saw it, I'm gonna put my "Like" here and go back to watching "Doctor Who" on Pluto TV! Oh, did I let slip a hint? :) I know you folks are going to be *waaay* busy with "Fallout," but still..... :)
We working on Doctor Who as we speak. About halfway through season 3 now. It'll be a few more days before we get them out on RUclips.
@@Syntell 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲
Since you like Starship Troopers, give the youtube audiobook a listen. The book is even better than the movie. Enders Game has a great audiobook on youtube as well. A million times better than the movie.
All that being said, Big Trouble is awesome, and is just as good every time I watch it.
Remember, the movie is from the side kick's point of view. JACK is the side kick and Wang is the hero.😀
I have a 24x36 poster for this movie in me ManCave
Is it dumb as frack? Yes
Is it still amazeballs nonetheless? Also Yes
Have you paid your due's Jack. Well sir the cheques in the mail. Amazing movie.
Amazing movie!
24:24 It’s a baby beholder.
And I watched this and golden child this morning
I try not to judge cuz i like watching people's first time experiences but bruv.....🥺🤯🙄🙄😂
man I grew up in SF Bay Area and I never saw demon lords
If you liked this Carpenters "WORST" movie, then look at Steven Spielberg's "1941" a comedy of WW2 on coast of California.
You can show a man breaking another mans arm, but bleep out words like "hell"??....ok.
Terrible editing job. Learn from everyone else and how they do it.
