Tom Cruise KILLED it in this movie. So good and nearly unrecognizable. I love this film.
"If I do this, I wanna have BIG HANDS!" - Tom Cruise on accepting this role
I remember in the theater I didn't realize it was him till the end. I was floored.
@@Its75centslurpee i recognized the voice through the whole film but couldn't place it
I did not recognize him until I went back after seeing the name in the credits, and then, once I saw him, I could not un-see him
IMO his best ever role
I'm a dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude.
RDJ playing Kurt Lazuras playing Lincoln Osisris. Hilarious RDJ in 3rd person
@@davidward9737Kirk Lazarus playing Lincoln Osiris disguised as a Chinese Rice/Poppy Farmer!! He really went there!
The dude are emerging 😂
In a movie with so many ridiculous jokes, for some reason the one that always makes me laugh most is: "Let's move. We only have 16 hours before they wake up."
My favorite for whatever reason is when Robert Downey Jr says “stop tailgating me you pasty teabag”
You did much better at identification than me. I walked out of the theater afterwards thinking Les looked familiar, but I couldn't place him until I went home afterwards and looked it up.
May I take it, then, that you simply stood up and turned your back on the screen the moment the words, "A BEN STILLER FILM" appeared?
🤨 🙂
I LOVE THIS MOVIE! this is definitely in my Pantheon of greatest comedies EVER!😂😂😂😂
I remember my friend in high school telling me that their cousin, who had some decent acting roles by then, had an amazing comedy script and he was still shopping it around. This was around 2003. The cousin was Justin Theroux. And apparently on the set on Zoolander where he played the creepy DJ, Justin made a friend.
I'm sure someone already mentioned this, but RDJ actually did the DVD commentary for this film in character, as Kirk Lazarus, in character as Lincoln Osiris...
Tom Cruise proved with this movie he has an absurdly good sense of humor, and was definitely instrumental in giving him a positive look post all the Oprah stuff.
This movie is pure comedy! I couldn’t stop laughing throughout the whole movie! I’m glad you had a great laugh watching this movie to the end! I was so shocked to learn Les Grossman was Tom Cruise the whole time. I didn’t even know it was him until the credits. LOL xD
So far I'm only 11 minutes into this reaction and I am absolutely loving your facial expressions so far, lol. This movie is BONKERS.
The very first time I saw this movie was at a movie theater in Las Vegas when I was visiting a friend. I legit thought the Booty Sweat and Bust-A-Nut Bar ad was real, lol. I turned to my friend and said "You got some weird concessions out here in Vegas!" lol. And then coincidentally enough, they actually DID make a limited run of Booty Sweat, and a friend of mine at work got me a can, which I kept on my shelf at work for years, lol.
Been looking forward to this one ALL day. 🤣 Such a hilarious movie.
You omitted my favorite line😢. "He ain't playing God, he's being judged by him." That line cracks me up everytime i hear it.
"Someone is going to die."
Oh, Addie, you don't even KNOW! 😂
"I wanna have fat hands, and I'm gonna dance." - Tom Cruise, when Ben Stiller asked him if he'd want to be in the movie.
"We'll weep for him..., in the press..." 😂
For me, the biggest and funniest clowns, RDJ, Tom Cruise, Ben Stiller, second string, Jack Black, Nick Nolte, Brandon T, LOLOLOLOL
You think the ads and trailers confused you on this, now imagine watching in a theater when it smoothly transitions after some real ads and trailers, and you gradually go "wait... what am I looking at?"
"Pull the wool over the eyes", my foot - they all-out _yanked_ it! 😁
This movie was insanely funny,Tom had everyone Fooled 😅
You're the first reactor I've seen to recognize Lance Bass from NSYNC.
I absolutely LOST IT during the "trailer" for Satan's Alley... xD
I don’t care what anyone says or how they ‘feel’ about Robert Downey Jnr’s character! He amazing in that role! Cracks me up every time!!
I’m black and from the UK. People need to lighten up! No pun intended!
Real question... When have you personally or in media ever actually heard any real groundswell of negativity towards this movie or RDJ?
Recount the time you actually engaged with anyone expressing "outrage".
You can't. Because it never happened. There was never any groundswell of opposition to this film of any import, culturally or critically.
People saying shit like "You can't make this today" or some variation are saying nothing at all.
Then why are they censoring so many words that aren't even one of the seven dirty words?
@@miguelvelez7221 I’m hoping these are all rhetorical questions, because it also sounds like you’re having a dig at me, despite me already saying I have no issue with the film or the role RDJ plays. Unfortunately in today’s society there at too many melts that would take offence, or try to ‘cancel’ people for past mistakes, that actors no longer dare to make these types of films today. Take White Chicks for example. I recently watched an interview with Terry Crews saying they thought about making a sequel but it’s ‘dangerous’ to do so now because of the backlash it would receive. So, you tell me who is against this? Whether you’re personally heard anyone or not, doesn’t mean it’s not happening, which is a real shame.
It was fun to see your mind get blown when you realize Tom Cruise is in the movie 🤣
Oh no I hope you knew what you were getting into 😂
Me, Myself, and Irene is also worth watching.
I miss these kinds of movies. Before people got all butthurt over everything.
Les Grossman made an appearance for one of the MTV movie award shows too
This is the best reaction ever, Addie looks so confused/shocked about everything 😂
Excelente pelicula muy graciosa , saludos desde Argentina😅
Not sure if you caught it, but when they announce the Oscar, all of the other actors nominated were for playing disabled people..... 😉
Robert Downey Jr. actually got Oscar-nominated for this (Best Supporting Actor). Had the unfortunate luck of running against Heath Ledger for THE DARK KNIGHT (who won that year). It is pretty ironic that Downey Jr. is a possible contender this year once again for OPPENHEIMER, considering that he lost to a Nolan movie performance the last time he was nominated (as a matter of fact, as of this writing, Ledger is the only performance from a Nolan movie to be nominated, let alone win (this will certainly change thanks to OPPENHEIMER)).
It's even more ironic that he lost against Ledger because his character is a parody of Ledger
Cool observation. Deep man
@@donotevenbegintocareI'd say a parody of method actors in general but that's still a fair assessment
@@silentassason It's most likely more a parody of Daniel Day Lewis than anything else with Lazarus being a multiple Oscar winner.
@@benn454 there's plenty of method ones. christian bale apparently is kind of one, and all the weight loss/gain/muscle gain is crazy bad for his health. It's pure insanity.
RDJ’s character is a prime example of satire. It’s excellent.
I love how they address the obvious ridiculousness of his character through the movie with satire! It is brilliant the way it was done! Ben Stiller is low-key a great Director! The way he did Tropic Thunder and then transitioned into The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is something beautiful to witness!... and not even counting Escape at Dannemora and Severance! Sooner or later i do think that fortunately Ben Stiller does have the chops to become recognized as one of the greatest Actor-turned-Director ever! His level of talent is not a joke by any means!
Don't feel bad about not recognizing Tom Cruise at first... I didn't realize it was him until the end credits! ☺️
His voice is EASILY recognized
@@patrickbateman7369 not for european dubbed versions :) i also saw it at the end
Fun fact Addie: During the MTV movie awards where this film was nominated and promoted, Tom Cruise, came out in full makeup/outfit and performed he even had a surprise dance appearance of JLO.
The advertisements leading up to it were a blast too. He did a few in full costume with a few other actors nominated that year as the award show was billed as being "produced by Les Grossman". The one I remember most of course was the one he did with Robert Pattinson.
When i saw this in the theater they mixed in the fake trailers at the start with the actual real movie trailers and it was probably the best movie meta moments ive ever had.
Priceless.
That actually sounds dope
'I don't read the script, script reads me'. Love that line, sounds profound for a millisecond but means jack sh*t.
You should check out the commentary of this movie; Downey stayed in character during it, and Jack Black was laughing his head off during the whole thing.
"I don't read the script. The script reads me." That's my favorite line in the film.
It's really funny because the other actors didn't know beforehand that Downey was going to do the commentaries in character XD
Well he did say he doesn't break character until the DVD commentary is done. lol
I liked the "never go full retard" speech. So inappropriate, yet so funny.
The Anchorman and Step Brothers commentaries are pretty hilarious too. I need to check out the Talladega Nights commentary track. I bet it's great too.
I'm a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude....
the faux trailers in this one were pure gold 😂
Satan's Alley 🤣🤣🤣
My cinema had them mixed in with regular trailers.
We were confused AF.
I like the ones in the middle of GrindHouse a little more. These were funny though.
@@Deathbird_Mitch Tarantino and Rodriguez got some big names to direct their fake trailers. Eli Roth and Rob Zombie 👍
And necessary. A lot of exposition.
Best performance by Tom Cruise, ever. He took his real life weirdness and made it into a character.
The character is based on a real life producer. Weinstein, basically but with comedy instead of shady stuff with actresses wanting roles in movies.
That "weirdness Tom Cruise" can buy & sell your whole bum family Loser
Don't feel bad Addie. First time I didn't recognize Tom at all until his name appeared in the credits.
I watched the DVD commentary back in the day and Robert Downey Jr. Was still in character just like he said he would do in the movie.
One of the many reasons RDJ is a legend.
Robert Downey Jr is a comedy genius with this role
Hey Addie, you wanna know how they got all these actors to be in this movie? The writer called them and asked "Hey, do you want to be in this crazy movie I just wrote?" Of course when the writer is Ben Stiller.... Oh yeah, and you agree to Tom Cruises condition that he have big hands and gets to dance.
It's great watching a bunch of well-known actors appear to have fun while making a movie. About trying to make a movie.
I'm sure most of us didn't recognize Tom Cruise at first. And when we finally did, I know I'm not the only one who said, "Wait... What?!?!", and then went back to rewatch all his previous scenes.
Very enjoyable reaction, Addie. Thanks much! 🤗
Fun Story about Tom Cruise in this movie:
When this came out me and my friend went to see it and in the middle I said that "holy crap I think that's Tom Cruise!" and he said "No way!" And during the enc credits I reiterated that "dude, I think this is Tom Cruise!" and he remained reluctant. We went to get food afterwards and he bet me a party sized plate of nachos for who actually played that character. No need to say that I won and got my nachos.
Additionally, when this movie was cast, they pitched this role to Tom Cruise as a joke thinking he would never accept but he did and it was his demand that he'd have that dance number at the end and it was choreographed by him as well.
SO UN-PC and I LOVED every minute of it!
lol, I didn't realize it was TC until the CREDITS.
SHOULD have taken BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR/BEST MAKEUP/PRACTICAL EFFECTS
I'm a dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude!
So great! RDJ is a gift
Ben Stiller is a big Star Trek fan and mostly includes references to the original series in his films.
11:44 fun fact, RDJ actually did the DVD commentary in character
3:10 Well if you wanna see more Tobey Maguire & Robert Downey Jr. check out “Wonder Boys”. It’s gotta a killer soundtrack of Bob Dylan songs!
The trailers in the beginning a brilliant not just for themselves, but they also introduce every important character upfront in a nutshell.
Addies's facial expressions reacting to this move were awesome 😀. Also that she didn't recognise Tom Cruise at the beginning was hilarious. Love the reaction keep them coming 👍
It is 100% my favorite Tom Cruise performance !!!
Also, I laughed my ass of watching you scwurm on things that wouldn't pass in a script 2023.
Much Love to You and Ukraine
💙💛💙🌻🌻🌻
Robert Downey Jr. and Tobey Maguire were actually both in the movie ”Wonder Boys”; it’s really worth watching
Came here to say this. Definitely a forgotten classic.
Great movie. Completely forgot about it until I saw this comment
Tony Stark, Peter Parker, and Hank Pym.
You remember Kevin as the voice of Hiccup in "How to Train Your Dragon"... but you should also watch him with Nicolas Cage in, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice". He's actually the star of that one.
I know him from Fanboys and Knocked Up.
Don’t worry…A LOT of people didn’t recognize Tom Cruise, until towards the end of the 2nd time they watched this movie
One of the best comedies ever made.
You can tell that Addie in real life is a wholesome person. Because it is a raunchy movie and her facial expressions were awesome. She deserves a Oscar make her a little Twigman
There are so many nods to other movies I am still finding them. Ben Stiller at the first being chased and shot was from Platoon, hard to miss. The drugs shaped into the mountain from Close Encounters, and the acting was spot on. Another of my favorites I have watched more times than I want to admit lol.
You should watch Wonder Boys, which has Toby and Robert in it, and it's an amazing movie as well.
19:40 That moment when Addie realises where she knows that voice from… 🥇
I loved your reaction to this movie! Especially your reaction to Les Grossman. Tom Cruise said it's one character he'd like to make another movie as!
I so much love your reaction to this movie. And Tom Cruise hit it out of the park. It blew me away! Movie has lots of laughs and was wild. Stay well.🎉
I was surprised to see this pop up in the recommendations, and now I love it. Awesome reaction 👍
Tom Cruise has been trying to make a Les Grossman spin-off movie for years
Anyone offended by this solid gold comedy doesn't deserve the time of day
Havent watched yet, did she get offended?
@@frenchynoobBlack people love this movie, anyone else getting offended is just pretending to be progressive
Can you point to actual commentary from any individual or group with a large constituency that actually did go after Tropic Thunder before, after or during its release? And I don't mean the usual peanut gallery. I'm sure Spike Lee or someone similar made some remarks... So Spike and... Who? Who else? Who "went after" Tropic Thunder and was serious about being offended by it? In media or otherwise?
They didn't then or now so the whole "Offended SJW" narrative from Reactionary Goons is a silly stawman.
The point of RDJ’s blackface in this movie is supposed to being a satire and making fun of white people doing black face and method acting. People who get mad at this have zero media literacy
So, by your logic, if you're offended by someone else's offence, does that mean you don't deserve to give yourself the time of day?
10:49 To answer your question, yes, Jay Baruchel is the actor who voiced Hiccup in the How To Train Your Dragon movies.
Tom Cruise deserved Oscar for this.
Addie has the best faces in a reaction...especially for this crazy-ass movie. LOL.
So many films referenced in this ...
Platoon, Apocalypse Now, even Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
My favourite part was Tom Cruise. I also love that Addie recognized Lance, I didn't know at first if she knew him, but she obviously did.
I saw this in theaters with my best friend when it first released, and our sides hurt from laughing so hard by the end. 🤣
Everyone in the theater was laughing their collective asses off.
That's my favorite drink...
Loved your reaction, the mix uncomfortable laughter and shock was great haha
Addie, bless your heart for watching this movie. I have three sons two of them are currently active military and they/we love this movie but it’s not for everybody. Thanks for being a good sport
Jeff,
when ben stiller asked tom cruise to be in the movie, all tom said was "i want fat hands and i wanna dance." 😂
Seriously, I had no idea it was Tom Cruise for half the flick as well. This also, by far, my favorite Tom Cruise performance.
My jaw about dropped when I saw you were watching this!
Such a great flick!
Unbelievably funny!
RDJ is the best!
Saw this in the theater, and I laughed so hard at the Simple Jack slow-mo scene I was absolutely expecting a heart attack. And I was absolutely OK with it.
The face after. "He's cleaning a gun with no bullets". Had to replay that shocked moment over and over.
Your reaction when Robert Downey Jr. said he’s “just like a little boy playing with his di$k when he’s nervous” had me dying laughing. I don’t know why but it was so funny to me. Love your channel. Peace and love from Mass!!!
19:43 i was wondering this whole time if she recognized hm but just didnt keep the realization in the final cut... omg so funny, so many people dont recognize Tom at first
Sweet, sweet, innocent Addie wasn’t ready for this.
That's what makes it so good.
His should be entertaining with Addie 😆 ❤ 📹
Tom Cruise = Legend
This may be the most entertaining movie I have ever seen . I could watch this a million times.
From badass secret agent, to charming yet insidious vampire, to drunken veteran on a cultural epiphany and redemption arc in feudal Japan, to .. this.
What can this man not do?
All the controversy about him ( because of Scientology) aside, hes one of the most adaptive charismatic actors i have ever seen and i watch movies spanning half a century at the very least.
Hes one of the goats.
I agree, past 30 years the 2 Toms have dominated. Cruise and Hanks
Tom Cruise is impersonating David Misgavige the leader of Scientology. The impersonation is DEAD-ON!!!
Diet Coke!! 😂
Tom Cruise's character is my favorite character in this movie.
I don't know why but he is.
Recognises Lance from nsync but not Tom Cruise. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s sad to see people react to this film, obviously find certain parts funny, but they feel the need to hold back their laughter because it would be “wrong” to laugh.
You’re watching a COMEDY. If you find something funny, laugh. If someone has a problem with that, they are just looking for something to get triggered over and to hell with them.
Thank God this movie was made prior to the wokeness that plagues us now, I can just imagine how many snowflakes must be offended by this movie.
Did you find Tom Cruise?
One of the last great comedies.
Well, you caught onto Tom Cruise a bit later than other reactors, but got RDJ nearly off the bat. Plus I'm pretty sure you're the only person to recognize Hiccup.
It helps that Dreamworks had their vanity plate for this movie placed _after_ the "movie trailers" to just before the "Tropic Thunder feature presentation" started. It helps sell the illusion.
Actually, you did pretty well recognizing Tom Cruise halfway through the movie. Some people don’t figure it out until the end credits.
If you’re interested in more out of the ordinary roles he’s done, check out “Magnolia” or the third ‘Austin Powers’ movie, “Goldmember” (you should really watch all three…)
I was one of those people :(. I wasn't as into movies back then.
Definitely my favorite Cruise role.
Tom Cruise Dancing xD
People being offended by RDJ in this movie simply did not understand the context nor the character he portayed. RDJ actually met with black actors before accepting the role because he initially did not want to do it. Jamie Foxx in particular convinced him to do the movie.
There was never any high profile backlash against this film or RDJ in general that ever had any traction.
Did Spike Lee say some shit? I am sure he did. He says a lot of shit. Anyone other than the usual Bogeymen of the Right?
No.
So why the need to BS us that there ever was any big time outrage at this movie? There just wasn't then or now.
