Ben got the idea from an old war movie he did back in the 80's. All the leads had to go through bootcamp before shooting & he said they started acting as if they'd actually been to war & knew better than everyone else.

The dead panda bit wasn't originally in the script. At the time, Jack Black was fresh off of Kung Fu Panda, which was projected to make all kinds of money, and apparently, he wouldn't shut up about it. So, Ben Stiller decided they had to work in a way for his character to kill a panda.

The really crazy thing is he actually killed a Panda on screen in a single take. Neither China nor PETA were thrilled, and the production had to pay many hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines as a result. Still, well worth it - the movie just wouldn’t be the same otherwise

What I love is that I remember reading that Ben Stiller had let Tom Cruise read the script, and the character of Les Grossman was in it, but only vaguely described, not really developed, and Tom said he had an idea for the character, and that he wanted to play the role, but only under strict conditions: "I wanna dance, and I want to have fat hands."

Great reaction video … truly one of the best, most real reactions I’ve seen with this film. Tropic Thunder is likely my most favorite, off the mainstream, movie ever. It’s truly a brilliant movie.

Les Grossman just absolutely giving it to Flaming Dragon always has me crying of laughter, it’s my favourite scene in the film and he’s my favourite character in the film. I think it’s one of Tom Cruise’s best roles
I remember watching it for the first time with my brother and we just laughed from start to finish

Tell you this, I’ve worked in “the biz” doing lighting in Hollywood for 20 plus years, and we ALL (the crew members) share/exchange stories and experiences of working with different actors. I’ve never worked w/ him, and The Scientology aside (gonna leave that alone) but every person I’ve worked with, that has worked with Cruise has nothing but nice things to say about him. And that’s rare in this business to not have heard a bad story/experience about an actor that’s had such a long career. That says a lot.

Also Tom Cruise is NOT just an action star. He is a movie star that does action movies OCCASIONALLY. To me, action stars are guys like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Jackie Chan, Michael Jai White, etc., where if you think of them, all you associate them with is action movies. I'll add there is NOTHING wrong with that, I am just saying that Tom has far more range than people give him credit for.

People who say Tom cruise is an action star has recency bias. They've never watched anything besides mission impossible movies.

One of, if not THE, favourite comedy of mine. Really enjoy it, and the commentary of the movie is really funny as well. Funny watching the faces people do while watching it, everybody makes really weird faces because of this movie. I really enjoy that bit of watching people react to movies. Great stuff!
