He was, and I listened to all of it 😂😂that was a great choice by RDJ to do that😂😂😂This movie is spectacular and always makes me laugh everytime I watch it. So smart yet so silly and stupid😂😂
Everyone already loves RDJ but holy shit i cant imagine how anyone made it through a single scene without cracking here. As funny as it is to watch kirk lazarus stay in character in black face the entire time, on set theres and added layer of RDJ playing lazarus, hes a dude playing a dude, playing another dude who's disguised as yet another dude. I dunno if they talked much about behind the scenes antics but i have to assume RDJ was just walking around making people spit out their coffee all day lol.
@@michaelsublet3283 From wikipedia: Blackface is the practice of non-Black performers using burnt cork or theatrical makeup to portray a caricature of Black people on stage or in entertainment. The opening scene for Ben Stiller, is a direct parody of Willem Dafoe's death in "Platoon." It's an iconic image. It was on the movie poster and cover.
Platoon is such a good movie that in the moment, it doesn't seem like a ridiculous scene. When you see it parodied elsewhere it's funny as hell because out of context the scene is super ridiculous.
The character of Less Grossman has only aged better, like a fine wine. Because Tom essentially wrote the character himself, and said he was inspired by Harvey Wienstein, who he always felt was a tool, and an ass. And this was before the scandal broke. So it just makes it even better knowing the origin of the character lol Edit: it's also fun to know, Ben originally took the movie to Cruise (since they are friends) to have him read, and give feed back on the script. Tom thought it was absolutely hilarious, but was missing something. He said "there needs to be some kind of urgency or pressure for them to get the movie done, where's the studio in all of this?" They then rewrote the script together and added the Less Grossman character as the industry typical movie producer/studio exec. Theres a whole interview out there on You-tube where Ben explains it all better than I 😂
If I remember correctly this was coming off his super serious phase, right? The whole "glib" episode was around this time. I remember being absolutely shocked at Tom Cruise being this funny and not serious.
Arianna's reaction to this is priceless. One of the best out there. If you take a drink every time she "can't", you'll die of cirrhosis in the first few minutes. Post-reaction comment: You guys were great, as well. Your laughter is contagious. Conspiracy theory: Kirk Lazarus did not undergo pigment alteration. It was just a promotion for the film. Notice how white he becomes after his mental breakthrough...
This film will never get old, always has mr laughing way too hard and RDJ absolutely killed it..everyone did to be fair. 😂 The reaction when you realised who RDJ was though 😂
RDJ got nominated for a Oscar with this performance. _In a comedy!_ You could count in one hand the number of comedies that had actors or crew who were nominated for an Oscar. That's how good he was here.
Although I've seen the movie a few times and around 10 reactions of this movie all the way through, I'm still gonna watch this one. This movie is a once in a lifetime comedy masterpiece and I love watching it with people who never seen it before.
One of the greatest comedy films of all time. It's so wild, so unpredictable, so perfect. I want to believe you could still make a movie like this today, but I'm not sure.
love the brief Voight cameo at the Oscars, he is the most nominated actor without winning one, that's why he was ready to go but was so pissed he didnt get it, again lol, he's a good sport for doing this
I dont know how many times ive seen different channels react to this movie and they're all great but the reactions when the Key Grip punches the director in the face is always so damn funny to see. Love you guys! 😂
"Man, I don't drop character 'till I done the DVD commentary." Fun Fact: When recording the audio commentary for the Unrated DVD and Blu-ray, Robert Downey, Jr. actually spends the entire commentary in the character that appears on the screen as the movie progresses. Historical Fact: The South East Asian gang Flaming Dragon, led by a pre-teen boy, was modeled after God's Army, a guerrilla army in Myanmar. The group was led by twin brothers Johnny Htoo and Luther Htoo, who were nine years old when it was founded in 1997. Johnny and Luther Htoo were fond of American action movie heroes, especially the Rambo franchise. Cruise Unbound Fact: Ben Stiller said nearly all aspects of the Les Grossman character were developed by Tom Cruise, including the dancing and the look of the make-up. Stiller said that in addition to the more obvious make-up effects applied to Cruise's face and head, and the extra hair on his chest and arms, Cruise also decided to play the character wearing oversized prosthetic hands.
Fun fact: When Downey Jr's character says "I don't drop character until I've done the dvd commentary" he means it. If you watch the move with commentary it's Lazarus Kirk speaking
And the final dialogue between RDJ and "SimpleJack" Ben Stiller is homage to the ending of "Apocalypse Now" and the meeting of Capt. Willard (Martin Sheen) and Col. Kurtz (Marlon Brando).
One of the best movies ever, one of the last great comedies, RDJ's second best role after Tony Stark. And so many amazing actors in this movie, big and small. Ben Stiller struck gold here.
The DVD commentary is hilarious. If you get a chance to listen to it, you won't regret it. He *did* stay in character. "I don't read the script. The script reads me." That is my favorite line in the film. If it weren't for Downey going against Ledger for Best Supporting Actor that year, he would have won the Oscar. Heck, 2008 was his year (Iron Man, the cameo in The Incredible Hulk, then this movie)
When I heard you say the name of the channel, I wrote you said "diet Jesus". I wash like alright, we got the low calorie Jesus taking over right now. 😂
I saw a great interview with Tom. They wanted him to play another part but he took the producer part under 2 conditions: 1- he got to wear 'fat hands'! And 2- he got to dance! Best Tom EVER!!! LOL
Robert Downey Jr. 100% deserved his Oscar nomination for this role. And if it weren't for Heath Ledger's Joker, I would have seen him take the award home; the performance was just brilliant. It was when he was playing the poppy farmer, but doing it as Lincoln Osiris, instead of Kirk Lazarus just using his masterful acting to do it accurately. Downey was like 3 layers deep in performance and it just hit like a brick how darn incredible he did with the role.
Didn't think anything could top Arianna's reaction to this, but you two cracking up with uncontrollable laughter through was just amazing! watching chad edit this was loads of fun ^^ cant wait to watch this ..also realized that the squad drops in with 1LMG , 1 shotgun and 3 rifles but at the final showdown there 2 rifles on rdj and each on alpha and Sandusky.
fun fact, during the mtv movie awards which this movie was nominated for some/an award. For promotion material and a tribute Tom cruise came out in full make up as the character and did a live performance, even danced with Jlo. Idk if you can find the entire footage.
This is probably one of the best reactions to this movie lol. I've seen other reactions for this movie but this one I enjoyed nd I was cracking up like it was my first time watching Tropic Thunder. Awesome cast, great comedy.
The "I don't drop character til I do the DVD commentary line..." you should actually listen to the DVD commentary. Yes, yes he was in character for the whole thing. It was fucking glorious.
I think Tropic Thunder is a lot like Airplane in that you have all these actors, who are better known today for their dramatic roles, in a balls-to-the-wall comedy/satire.
