😅hilarious classic
I loved how hard you beauiful ladies were laughing to the Barber Shop guys..I grew up with one in my Black Neighborhood called Leon's-The crazy conversation/banter I'd hear made it a pleasure to go get a haircut! Leon also didn't like or promote products like "Soul Glow" --"Man what you puttin' all that oil cloggin' up your hair follicles, killin your scalp like a duck on one a' them Greenpeace ads.!" Like Akeem he kept lots of African natural stuff on hand. Very fun reactions to a very fun movie!
The 2 homeless old men r the to from trading places. The king is voice of Vader an lion king dad. Legend! James Earl Jones
@@alonzocoyethea6148 thank you!!
Did you watch the end credit scenes? It showed all the characters that Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall portrayed.
Those 2 old white guys are from another classic movie with Eddie Murphy called trading places, that's why they got a cameo in this movie
Unfortunately, Murphy doesn’t play multiple characters in that movie like he does in his other movies
Yeah that's the movie 🎬 with Jamie lee Curtis. They not gonna know they didn't even know it was Eddie Murphy in Hella characters 😂
@@thachosen1.So_litt Trading Places, that was the name of that movie 😉
@@nsasupporter7557trading places is awesome...I saw a RUclips video made by a stock broker explaining what the dukes were trying to do at the end of trading places...it's actually quite interesting
@@NGT4LIFE Don ameche and Ralph Bellamy played mortimer and Randolph Duke in trading places...they were the 2 bums that eddie murphyy gave a stack of cash in coming 2 america
Fun Fact: For the movie's 30th anniversary a few years ago, an independently operated McDonald's in Chicago "dressed" as McDowell's for Halloween. The owner changed the sign, the menu and the employee uniforms. It was brilliant.
Also, James Earl Jones and Madge Sinclair would go on to voice Simba's parents in "The Lion King" (1994).
Playing a King and Queen once again.
They had a McDowell's in LA. The shake they served was a sexual chocolate shake.
@@red-stapler574Omg!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 That's F-ing hysterical. I'd order 1 even if not thirsty....then go buy my Soul-Glow
@@red-stapler574guy ( joking) suck on toooo many of those in a row and McDowell's issues a restraining order!
This movie is a down right classic. So many one liners, easter eggs cameos etc. Glad you reacted to it
Lol!! I put the same thing about SImba'a parent - then deleted it when I saw you had already mentioned it.
Eddie was 26 when he shot Coming To America. It was released shortly after his 27th birthday... Also that is a young Cuba Gooding Jr in the barber's chair trying to keep a straight face.
Oh my. One of the best parts of the movie is the credits where it’s shown all the characters played by Eddie and Arsenio. There are a few surprises
"Goodmorning my neighbours!" 😇😇😇
"F*** you!" 😤😤😤
"Yes, yes... F*** you too!"🤣🤣🤣
That scene is comedy Gold XD
As much as I love Star Wars and Darth Vader, my favorite James Earl Jones line will always be "I assumed you had sex with your bathers. I know I do!" 😅
The way he smiles after that line 🤣🤣🤣 JEJ is a scamp
Eddie Murphy became known for impersonations with the use of extensive make-up. A few years before this movie, Eddie Murphy was on "Saturday Night Live" and had a sketch where he made himself up as a white man and went around town as a sort of flipped rendition of "Black Like Me."
Eddie also plays multiple characters (with much less convincing whiteface) in Wes Craven's Vampire in Brooklyn.
Did you see his return to SNL 2 or 3 years back? He did all his classic characters
This is my favourite film of all time. Never gets old.
You guys laughing at the barber shop scenes, until you were crying was hysterical. I hope you stuck around for the credits to find out Eddie Murphy was also the old Jewish guy in the shop as well. Such a classic film. Now you need to see the classic "Trading Places"! Always a pleasure! Thanks for the fun time!
The 2 grateful homeless men were huge stars in the 1940 - 1970s. They are also in the Eddie Murphy movie Trading Places with Dan Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis. I think you will like that movie.
Eddie Murphy was about 27 when he made this movie in 1988.
"So why did you come here?"
"To find something special."
"It's a long way to travel."
"No journey is too great when one finds what he seeks."
Fun Fact: Cuba Gooding Jr. (an Oscar winner) and Vondie Curtis-Hall (an Emmy and SAG Award nominee) made their first on-screen appearances in this film.
Zamunda Forever Fact: Zamunda is the name of the fictional African country the main characters are from. This name was taken from a Richard Pryor routine where he referred to a fictional African tribe of the same name.
Double Duty Fact: This was the first time Eddie Murphy played multiple characters in the same film, inspired by Peter Sellers who did the same in Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb (1964). This would become a trademark of Murphy. After the make-up and clothing was applied for the Saul character, Eddie Murphy wanted to test the make-up and costume out. He got a golf cart and drove from one studio department to another in Paramount Studios. He would get out of the cart and say "Hi. I'm Eddie Murphy." in his regular voice. No one believed him.
Before The MCU Fact: The homeless men that receive the money from Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy) are the Duke brothers (Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche) from Trading Places (1983) also directed by John Landis. In that movie, Billy Ray Valentine (Eddie Murphy) was responsible for The Dukes losing their fortune. The Dukes theme from the movie can be heard in the background. Apparently, Landis didn't like the idea because it would be too self-referential, even though he is known for breaking the fourth wall in his movies. It led to a conflict with producer George Folsey Jr., until star Eddie Murphy decided that it was a great idea.
There have been lots of actors who play multiple characters in movies. In fact, Jerry Lewis did it in 'The Nutty Professor' (1963) a movie which Murphy later did a remake.
Eddie Murphy actually plays 4 people in the movie. If you haven't already, check out the cast credit videos. Your mind will be blown!
"That boy good!" 👏 👏 👏
The community center scene is my favorite. Eddie and Arsenio playing 3 characters each in the same room. Randy Watson mic dropping and stamping off stage will always make me laugh.
“Yeah, good and terrible”
The number of historically great actors & actresses + comedians in this classic was phenomenal. Awesome Vid, hope you review Trading Places so you understand the scene where Eddie gives the "bums" that "pocket change" 😂😂
Ladies I saw this movie in the theater when I was a kid! I can't tell you how many times I've watched this movie 😂!
LMAO! I was young watching this in the theatre with my mother and grandmother. I was so embarrassed at “the royal penis is clean your highness” omg
Eddie was 27 when when this movie came out. (maybe 26 when they shot it) He was 21 when he made his first film "48hrs" and started Saturday Night Live when he was 19 in 1980.
Glad to see that you both loved this classic comedy. No need to see the sequel, only if you want to, since it doesn't hold up to how good the original film is. There are scattered moments of good moments in the sequel, but nothing that you will ever remember for years to come like the first movie. "Coming to America" was brilliantly written and acted by everyone, especially the multiple roles done by Eddie and Arsenio. Of course, now you will have to watch "Trading Places" to understand how the two old men were that Eddie gave the money to were. :)
When I change the bins at work I always recite the line "when you think of garbage think of Akeem" it makes my chuckle to myself but then I realize its kinda true and then I'm sad and proceed to mop the floor with the mop still in the bucket
Shout out to Arsenio. He killed it in this movie.
💯🔥
This movie is an absolute classic!! So glad you both got to experience this masterpiece
Masterpiece ever. Great
Some are one in a million...Eddie's a million in one!
Akeem wants the exact opposite of his sheltered, pampered upbringing. He wants a real life, and a real woman. Really solid character and motivation, even if the problem is that try as he might, he can't escape his background, and hiding it only creates a rift between him and the woman he loves. This movie holds up so well, one of Eddie Murphy's best. Great reaction, guys, thanks!
Thanks for watching!!
Eddie Murphy was in his late 20s in this movie. He is now 62 years old.
I love that James earl Jones was wearing mufasa as a jacket
Loved this movie. I can't believe you girls haven't watched this movie until now. This was Eddie at his peek
If u saw, Trading Places, first, in here when he throws the money clip out on the street and the two old guys get it.... it's the Duke Brothers from Trading Places!! All the guys in the Barber shop, the preacher Sexual Chocolate guy, were all Eddie or Arsenio! The old Jewish guy was Eddie! The cab driver is Body by Jake. The robber is Samuel Jackson! The cat white guy was genius comedian, Louie Anderson! The young guy in the barber chair is Cuba Gooding Jr!
one of the guys in the barber shop was neither one. one was Eddie and one was Arsenio.
Murphy and Hall play so many characters in this movie and they all crack me up. Eddie as the old Jewish guy in the Barber shop was top notch. It took me forever to realize that was Eddie. The other really crazy thing about this movie is I think they shot it in all of two weeks if I remember the fact correctly. Just goes to show what you can do with talent in front and behind the camera.
You were gobsmacked when you heard the earrings were $500,000 remember this is 1988 money so that's $1.3 million dollars today
What's funny is Eddie played older for many years (he was only 18 when he joined SNL) so you are about right agewise but he is playing 21 here lol
Love how both of you enjoy the movie 😊😊😊
The lines "Ever since I was born, I've been trained to serve you" and "Am I not all you dreamed I would be?" from the film "Coming to America" are sampled in the 1997 song "Coma" by Australian ambient band Pendulum
The 2 old homeless guys he gave money to are from another movie Eddie Murphy also starred in called Trading Places. If you watch it, you will see how they became homeless. Also, Eddie Murphy was 27 and the girl he fell in love with was 24 at the time in Coming to America.. Great reaction
Thank you!!
😎👍 If you haven't seen it yet, another really fun Eddie Murphy movie is "Bowfinger" (1999) in which he plays both himself and his own twin brother.
Eddie Murphy was actually 27 in this movie.
Aww... you didn't show your reaction when the barber said "fuck you!" 3 times. That always killed me lol
I also loved Louie Anderson in this movie.
I think this was Eddie’s first movie playing multiple characters in one movie.
After watching "Coming To America", the only other Eddie Murphy movie that is "EQUALLY" good is Eddie Murphy & Martin Lawrence in a brilliant movie called "LIFE". Great makeup again, storyline, touching, funny,...A must see! (no exaggeration).
100% agree. Life is one of my favorite movies ever.
@@caseyhart4999 Great minds think alike! 👍🏾
20:30 These homeless guys are named Randolph and Mortimer, and they star with Murphy in a movie called Trading Places. If you liked this one you would probably like that one, too👌
It is a classic! Thank you for your great reaction. It is a Rom-Com, period!
Thank you for watching!!
Good, fun movie. I've seen this movie multiple times. But I haven't seen the sequel yet. I give y'all 5 hoots 🦉🦉🦉🦉🦉 And Stay Blessed!
Thank you!! You too!
Such a classic
such a classic movie
Glad you guys enjoyed this classic. Yes, I think Eddie was 27 in this. Yeah, I knew he seemed a little older than 21.
Thank you!!
@@ForceOfLightEntertainment meant to say Eddie was 27 in this
@@kwadwotuffour5529 You DID say "Eddie was 27 in this" 🤨
@@clutch236 yeah, at first it read 'Eddie was in this'. I had forgotten to add the 27.b but added it later on.
Nobody mentions the director, John Landis. Kentucky Fried Movie, Animal House, The Blues Brothers, Trading Places, An American Werewolf in London, Thriller video... etc.
And who can forget See You Next Wednesday?!
The My - T - Sharp Barbers Clarence , Morris , Sweets and Saul should of had their own movie . Every scene Morris ( Arsenio ) was in he was eating 🤭
when the dad stumbles up the stairs, that's a "blooper" they decided to keep in the film; the actor really tripped and fell
"Good morning, my neighbors."Hey F you!"
NYC, please never never change 🤣
😂😂
Cool reaction, you know the Giants beat Green Bay this year the same way he described that game to her father. It’s only happened a couple of times since this movie was released. I saw E. M. On tour in the 80s . The Raw tour. 👏👏😊🥰
Thanks!
To bad you guys didn't watch "Trading Places" with Eddie Murphy, Dan Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis first, because the two homeless guys he gave the money to is the first example of the Multiverse I ever recalled in movies.
HEY!!!! Joe Louis a hundred and thirty-seven years old!
hearing darth vader say ï tied my own shoes once ..." 😂🤣
Trading Places is another great Eddie Murphy movie from the 80s.
It’s on the list for this year!
The sister is actually correct. Some say that a man shouldn't give a woman earrings unless they've already been intimate.
Never heard that one.
@@ForceOfLightEntertainment I think it's because earrings are supposed to symbolize marriage, or at least, a union.
Dr. Benton (LaSalle) with the whole Soul-Glo bit gets me every time I watch this 😂 That is one product Natalie would not use on her hair. Very funny movie and re-watchable time to time unlike the terrible sequel (don’t waste your time with that one) .Michelle shock face 😱 at the father announcing engagement was priceless 😊 Eddie Murphy was the Jewish guy in the barber shop too, but you probably know that by now.
This movie is one of my favorite comedies. Few movies have made me laugh as much as this one. Great dialogue and a lot of great moments.
If you want another R-rated comedy with Eddie Murphy, I recommend “Harlem Nights”.
Cool reaction as always Michelle & Natalie, you both take care 🥰❤️
Thank you! You too!
@@ForceOfLightEntertainment My pleasure 🥰❤️
One of my favorite all time movies Coming To America was awesome
Thanks for reacting to this one of my fav ROM COMS
I love this movie. Great reaction.
Sadly, my favorite line from the movie was edited out “damn shame what they did to that dog“
The tape outline of the dog is what sells that dark joke so well.
@@LordVolkov yes, and the tape of the cane is the ultimate elevation of the gag.
hhaha YES you two really enjoyed this one, and YES Michelle that was Eddie M in that blue suit on the stage. And he was the jewish man in barber shop too! the make up and prosthetics were A + for them.
🤣 I was just talking about Vanilla Ice's explanation for Ice Ice Baby, recently 🤣
Also, I need to catch up on your reviews...
😂😂 Please do!
No one noticed Mr. McDowell touching all the hamburger patties with his fingers while he flipped the burgers? Isn't that a firable health violation?
Gross 😂
An actual indoor outhouse!
LOL at the burger phone...anyone remember the 80s and early 90s... I always wanted that duck phone
Watch Trading Places if you have not yet. On your own schedule, of course. Thanks for the review. Glad you liked the movie. It was a lot of fun watching along with you. Love your reaction and your very unique voices.
Thank you!!
Aww you left out the mid-credit scene lol.
I so distracted on how great you ladies hair is laid?! Like yes hair!!❤
Missed this was at work, but just saw myself for the first time in years on the third absolutely love this movie I can see by the comments that people are telling you to watch trading places. The money that he gives the two bums in front of the store are the bosses in trading places. also, a very good movie, but adult. Amazing comedy. Both are.
Love this movie! It’s probably my favorite Eddie Murphy movie.
Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall each played 4 characters in this movie.
Great movie, great reaction, and you are both adorable. Thank you!
Thank you!!
Feels like my birthday!🎂
😂😅😅😂never gets old!
Great Follow up Joke in this Movie from the Movie " Trading Places " very Funny Movies
Director John Landis has some greats. The Blues Brothers, Animal House, Trading Places and so on. Definitely check out The Blues Bros lol.
You can tell how bad the movie when 70% of the ladies commentary is just laughing at the jokes xD
born and raised and still living in Queens ,Astoria today . i so miss these days times was so different but kind of the same . the fast food joint on queens blvd is like a td bank or a white castle now lol
Damn. I thought I remembered you doing a reaction to Trading Places (1983). The director of this is the director of Trading Places with Eddie Murphy and Dan Ackroyd. There's a big reference to Trading Places that you, like so many, missed because you watched this film first. I insist you watch Trading Places (1983), so you can get what I'm talking about. Plus it's hilarious (more so than this if I had to make a comparison).
We haven’t but it’s on the list!

My wife and I saw this in the theatre when it opened. We laughed from start to finish and then the end credits where you see all the roles played by Murphy and Hall is just icing on the cake! This was a very popular movie in 1988 and you are right, it is a RomCom. When you get right down to it, it’s a rather conventional RomCom and it works so well because it has a great cast playing memorable characters. I’ve always enjoyed this movie and it does indeed bring back memories. Thanks for a wonderful video! 😎
Thanks for watching!
😃Thought it interesting you said the Jerry Curl dude didn't seem like the type that would marry. Remember when this film was made in the 1980s. No internet to chase all ya ladies down. So the greasy dudes like that would marry and cheat at every opportunity. And yes not most men are creeps like that. Unfortunately, most women are attracted to men who keep multiple partners. But I regress. Great reaction.
the money he gives to the two bums are DUKE & DUKE from Trading Places
I figured the homeless scene y'all didn't recognize the two men, they are from the movie Trading Places... another Eddie Murphy movie... Also the red head is on video is a smoke show!!! respectfully lol
Love your reactions. You both look beautiful! 😍🤩🥰
Thank you so much!!
Yes, I believe I did see it in the theater. I know there was some controversy about where Eddie Murphy got the idea for it. I believe he was sued, but nothing really came of it. I guess it was different enough from the other source. I'm glad you liked it. I'm not sure why it didn't get 5 hoots, you both laughed nonstop. Also just saying the 80's truly had the best movies and music. Literally the best time to grow up. Or maybe I'm just feeling nostalgic because I have a birthday coming up lol.
I've only seen the "edited for TV" version 😆 🤣. It's a funny movie, Eddie Murphy is good at playing the side bit characters 😆. Fun reaction Ladies. 😎👍

great movie one of my favs!!❤❤
You missed the cameo of the Dukes. Watch Trading Places and remember the two homeless men who said..."we're back".
I love Eddie as the singer. So goddamn funny!😂
The king and queen of Zamunda in this film were also Simba’s mum and dad in Lion King!
True! And Vader!
James Earl Jones and the late Madge Sinclair. Just thought you should know.
The actress who plays the queen and the actor who played Mr McDowell we’re in another movie together years before: Roots. John Amos played Kunta Kinte when he was older and she was his wife.
