Its great to see the old girl running on her own power and its great to hear that Valenta tune again. I wish the 125 group great success of owning a couple of HST sets when the Hitachi junk replaces them.
I can only agree with your comment on all points. I wish the HST's stay in service, but when they do finish there is something in place at least. Thanks.
Superb sight and sound there, fantastic to see and hear this historic diesel up and running once again. You certainly were in the right places at the right time there - I had no idea this might be happening and was sitting at home when I could have made the trip up the M1 for this. It's a Like and a Fav from me though!
Great shots Keith. Would have loved to see this but was on my way to Aussie when this was happening. Hoping to catch the next test run and sample that Valenta magic.
The horn sounds very familiar to the 47's horn. A pity that they scrapped the other loco but i'm glad that the 125 group brought this beast back to life. Now all we need is some 43's and some mark III coaches and then job done.
i remember going to England in the 1990s and i loved seeing the hsts just speeding on rail had a real sleek design. i am from ireland used visit relatives in the uk love the engines you guys have over there
There's nothing actually wrong with the engine, just needs fine tuning and running in properly. After not being used for so long there is always a build up of oil on the exhaust and that doesn't help. This after all was only a test run, much more work to do.
I see that they have a problem with the oil as the smoke that is producing is not black as for over fueling . The bore clearance is too big or the valve seals are not sealing or the turbo seals are leaking oil into the inlet manifold.
It was! I’m no expert, but was told that it was a build up of muck and turbo adjustments were needed. Someone else out there may know different. Once adjustments were made it did improve a lot!
nails6365 Definitely no unleaded there! Im no expert, but believe all kinds of engine factors, turbos, etc can affect it. I’m sure plenty of people out there know more. Thanks.
Can anyone help me out? Why is the train(loco) so much "smokey" ???? ps :- It is a newer one so comparing with the 56-097 it should be producing less smoke, isn't it??
41001 is actually older than the Class 56. Also this was the first time an engine had been inside the loco in about 25 years, hence why you see a lot of smoke coming out.
AndreiTupolev The class 56 + the 2 MK2's was 189 Tons, which worked out at approximately 6 coaches worth of weight... quite a lot for an HST where the norm is 4.5 coaches on average even distribution of weight based on a 9 coach set with 2 power cars so this was well & truly tested lol
KBRAILVIDEOS It would take two crews and loads of fuel, so don't think it'll run TnT with a Grid. Bit to expensive. It would take some serious ticket sales, a special maybe....?
Nicholas Dempsey I believe it took quite a bit of tuning and turbo work to sort the engine, but I'm not an expert! It was a massive project and well done to all involved.
the white smoke, named clag,is because tyhe fuel doesnt burn totally, some goes out as a very fiine spray as a fuel steam. Blue smoke,,,es the result in a probably rings leakage,,or valves seals. if the engine is repaired,,,and the cylinders didnt touched, but rings were replaced,,,may take some time to adjust them to tjhe cylinders,,,attenuating the blue smoke.

greenpeace wont be happy about this
Bryan Rothan greenpeace often attacked our boats in faslane, seems they don’t understand nuclear power is clean 😉
I thought it was knackered until it got to 8.13 - Then it was glorious - what a sound, obviously just wanted a good clearout
Great to see the Project Miller guys getting the Class 41 running again, awesome video MG :)
I did the easy bit, they do the hardwork. Just hope the video helps them get more supporters. Many thanks.
Thats a sound we`ve not heard for a bit ! Proper ic125 !
The Project Miller guys have done a good job, it's looking and sounding sweet.
This needs to be mainline certified
Would be nice.

Thanks, didn't it look good/sound good. I was very lucky to be there. Historic.
Great vid mate, great to see it back in action at last! Well done to em', cheers Jack
Thanks, agree totally. What a beast!
Great shots Keith. Would have loved to see this but was on my way to Aussie when this was happening. Hoping to catch the next test run and sample that Valenta magic.
Sad, it’s gone back to static exhibit. Hope the trip was good.

yeah the sleekest we got over here was the fecking 071s
Amazing clag, amazing sound, amazing tones!!! :D
Champion!
Nice power-up at 5:51 and 8:10, certainly sounding good.
Proper! The guys have done a great job on it, sounding great! Thanks.
That Is amazing!! I know yan (ay76) was there too for that. The clag and noise, gotta see that!! Very lucky
It is, i'm very lucky. Yeah, it was great to see AY76 again and others. Cheers.
Fantastic footage! Have been waiting a long time to hear 41001 :)
Thanks, glad to be of help. Just need it on passenger service now. The guys have really worked hard on this.
Paxman and Ruston thrash in one video !!! Does it get any better ??,both cabs working on the HST to,Result !!
No, I don't think it does get any better. That was excellent to see and hear. Many thanks.
Great video mate, glad you could make it.
Many thank mate, a great day for the Project Miller guys. Well done to the GCRN. Win, win!
Briliant video!!! Beautiful images and great smoking at 6:20 Good work - Up
Cheers, Andrew
Many thanks, glad you liked it Andrew.
What was wrong with the engine? Seems to be over-fuelling or something. Most of that fuel is leaving the exhaust unburnt.

Why all the clag I thought it was running warm?
Mega footage Keith, wish I could have gone.
Thanks mate, it was good.
Amazing to hear the classic scream of the 125 engine
KennnnnnyTucky it is, so missed. Cheers.
This train should be remembered as the prototype and predecessor of the HST.
It is!
I see that they have a problem with the oil as the smoke that is producing is not black as for over fueling . The bore clearance is too big or the valve seals are not sealing or the turbo seals are leaking oil into the inlet manifold.
Bit heavy on the clag! even worse than the 56. Is that oil from the rebuild or just an engine that has been healthier?
It was! I’m no expert, but was told that it was a build up of muck and turbo adjustments were needed. Someone else out there may know different. Once adjustments were made it did improve a lot!
Missed hearing that Paxman scream... Look forward to the day it heads Chilterns BR Blue stock :)
Fantastic video amazing sound I do not have a problem with new MTU Engines
+MrJoshiej Thanks, the engine had to be replaced and the MTU's arn't to bad. But, Valenta's are brill :-) I do miss them.
8:19 - Great filming was test running along that locomotive.
Thanks, good to see it back in action.
is it smokey because its the first test run and that the engine has to bed in etc ? (white smoke)
why do some diesels smoke like hell, and others barely a trace ? unleaded or Castrol GTX ????
nails6365 Definitely no unleaded there! Im no expert, but believe all kinds of engine factors, turbos, etc can affect it. I’m sure plenty of people out there know more. Thanks.

Hopefully not shot on world environment day
i thought Deltics were smokey. This is next level. (Just joking. Am sure it improves with use once the oil etc is burned off)
Super!
Cheers.
i just made your likes up to 125!
instant sub!!
cool or what brillian shame 2nd power car was scraped would of a fine set
I do believe green peace won't be happy with the clag
It soon clears and rail transport is much greener.
yh but it hasent been ran for many years i do belive.
Thomas Eades Why don't you read the comments I made on the video?
who cares!!!!
now all you 7 or 8 trailers to go behind it and another power car at the other end and you got the complete set. nice to here a paxman again tho
One step at a time! There's still more work to do, may be difficult to get another power car. Doesn't it sound good!
MG06ZT How about rigging it up to top & tail with a 56? I'd buy a ticket for that. ;
AndreiTupolev The class 56 + the 2 MK2's was 189 Tons, which worked out at approximately 6 coaches worth of weight... quite a lot for an HST where the norm is 4.5 coaches on average even distribution of weight based on a 9 coach set with 2 power cars so this was well & truly tested lol

hear here is as in I'm over here
Holy hell ,6.20 the clag
Running well if a bit too claggy
Yes, they got too grips with it and improved it. This was an early run out.
6:22 CLAG HEAVEN!!!!! :D
Proper! Thanks.
The driver probably doesnt even know thats happening!
6:28 With a strong and exact tail wind, the train driver would have been blindfolded.
Why is it running so rich? Even in the later videos shes running very white.
Nicholas Dempsey I believe it took quite a bit of tuning and turbo work to sort the engine, but I'm not an expert! It was a massive project and well done to all involved.

I hope they don't scrap them hst send them to museums when they come out of service shitty hitachi hope they don't replace these beast
I think they've got a few years left in them, as to preservation - they will be expensive! Have to wait and see.
clag clag clag !!! love it
+andy hopkinson Very nice! Cheers.
5***
Many thanks.
Where's it's tender?😂😂😂
It does need one😂. Thanks
What a nail…
Great machine.
Class 41s dont look good anyone agree?

?
Maybe it hasnt ran for over 30 years to get the lungs working again..
Might as well been a steam engine lol
Very close! Cheers.
All these singing birds 🐦 getting gassed
Shocking 😢
They’ll survive.
