I have just finished watching this video. It is brilliant, the scenery, the viaducts, 43251's engine... Thank you very much Ben.... really appreciate this.
You're video brought back a lot of memories along the route and a lot of changes with the old semaphore signals gone, happy to have seen them at St.Erth Station though, brilliant video 👍.
Well done Ben - you made Exeter-Plymouth in 50min; must be some 25yr since any non-stop runs were in the passenger timetable. And...you must have been one of the first (if not THE first) to be checked down at the new Grampound Road signal CL5883 1:51:50 since it was added earlier this year. By the way, at 2:11:03 is Treleigh (pronounced TreLAY) R/G footpath crossing. Thanks as ever for the ride 😀
That is a seriously beautiful route, the view crossing the Tamar into Cornwall is outstanding. Used to travel to Cornwall on holiday trains back in the 80's and spend the holiday running up and down the main line and the branches on a rover ticket. One of those videos that are good at 0.5x speed with the sound off. A shame to rush them !
So good to get a decent HD view of this maximally scenic route. It always feels to me that the waterside sections to Newton Abbot are saying to the remaining sections into Plymouth "Ha! Follow That!" and the remaining sections shrug and just say "Nah, not even gonna try".
This is the only part of England that I never have visit yet. BTW this class 43 I was riding them from London to Edingburough when they was new in the 70th and they are still going strong.
Oh this is a huge one! See it when i have time. Plymouth - London i have seen om the last day of 1 certain operation. So to Penzance is the final nail in the coffin. Hope it does not dissapoint.
Great to see Dawlish at 10:02 ! Never seen Driver's Eye View of it before! Often watch the live webcams, though. They're a useful check on what weather is on it's way to London!
Nicely, more so since I spent last April on a weekly Cornish ranger up and down Plymouth to Penzance and all the branches, ( St.Ive's, Falmouth Docks, Newquay, Looe and Gunnislake. )
It's been scrapped, years of sitting on grass took its toll on the chassis. Other bus projects in the pipeline though, we now have a few with some videos hopefully coming soon. The buses under restoration aren't mine so I am not in control of how long it takes.
Track geometry: Uses transducers and accelerometers to measure the up and down movement of the train and the shape and movement of the rail head Track faults: Uses a Plain Line Pattern Recognition (PLPR) system to detect faulty track components with lasers and cameras Data collection: Can collect around 10 terabytes of data for every 440 miles traveled.
This route to plymouth should be on tsw! Now to plymouth a ideal end point... but after wcl it was unsatisfying when royal albert bridge wasnt involved. Can saltash really be a end point/start point?
wow so it was you who went past my house just after laira loco shed i thought i heard a HST after lipson junction on right next to tracks it was on friday 18 oct
This is because some of the route skirts the coast to avoid derailing and ending up in the channel, plus for much of the trip between Newton Abbot and Plymouth then through Cornwall, the gradients (hills) are very steep, so all trains heading west have to run at various limits to keep the speed down to a safe level. Hope this helps.

This is a beautiful train line to travel on.
Finally..... I've been waiting for this cab view run for ages. And now it's arrived.. hurrah
Beautiful video. The weather conditions give it an ethereal quality.
Nobody sits down coming round the estuary at Starcross - just a spectacular view 🤩🤩
Absolutely wonderful, Just a dream to see it from a view point! Class 43 from Devon into Cornwall.. fantastic 💯💯💯
A brilliant video. Is amazing how twisting and hilly the route is. Cornwall is my favourite county to visit, home of my ancestors.
An outstanding video, maintaining your high standard of excellence 👍. (That's a long flamin' walk along the seafront.)
I like the way the captions line up exactly with the picture.
Hello Ben . Another excellent trip. Thank you. Roger

Fantastic memories of my trip to St Ives... my starting point was Farnham.... on to Woking, then change at St David's 🧡🚄🧡

Seriously addictive!
Many thanks Richard
Excellent Ben
Walked over the Tamar road bridge last weekend - spectacular views of the railway!
Gods Wonderful Railway in all its splendor

YES! THANK YOU!!!
Thanks Ban and Colas.
The light was fantastic

Had in laws in Dawlish and Torquay made this trek a few times, stunningly beautiful
Fantastic your best video yet?
Looking forward to this one, bravo!😊
The railway reaches the sea three times, at Dawlish, just before St Austell and finally Penzance.
Great to see Dawlish at 10:02 ! Never seen Driver's Eye View of it before! Often watch the live webcams, though. They're a useful check on what weather is on it's way to London!
Absolutely superb.
Oh my goodness it's so pretty!

Any news on the bus yet

I’ve never seen the exe so full!
Must've been not long after all that heavy rain down there.
Nice video and best view I've seen going over the Royal Albert Bridge. One question- what does a measurement train measure?
Track geometry: Uses transducers and accelerometers to measure the up and down movement of the train and the shape and movement of the rail head
Track faults: Uses a Plain Line Pattern Recognition (PLPR) system to detect faulty track components with lasers and cameras
Data collection: Can collect around 10 terabytes of data for every 440 miles traveled.
@dizstruxshon1012 Interesting. Thanks for the detailed answer
saw myself on the platform in Truro lol
From Exeter it's a long long way down to Penzance!
Exeter is nearer Taunton than Plymouth!
I hadn't realised how many single track sections there were.
Excellent
I'll watch it Monday

Water looks slightly worryingly high in the Exe estuary, I have to say. Next subject for fears of flooding? 😰
wow so it was you who went past my house just after laira loco shed i thought i heard a HST after lipson junction on right next to tracks it was on friday 18 oct
Who drives measurement trains? Anyone with route knowledge and HST cleared, or specialists?
A specific pool of infrastructure monitoring drivers
Great video! What did you think of the south coast ?
Lovely down there, I want to go again in my own time at some point!
to ben elias very good video from paul chapman at London uk 🇬🇧
Super film
Fantastic cab ride, are you the driver ? Or do you get permission to record video footage ?
Both! I was driving with another driver route conducting me.
what exactly is a measurement train?
HELLO NICE VIDEO .CAN I ASK THE DAY IT WAS SHOT PLEASE. MY FRENDS BOATS IN YOUR FILM BUT WENT MISING .. THANK YOU.
18 October 2024
Oh you little beaut, you...
👍👍👍
It's behind you....
Where was this filmed , Nigeria
😎
Hi Ben. Brilliant video on brilliant train in brilliant counties! What I don't understand is, do you have a waiver for route learning?
No. I have to sign routes just like everyone else. I don't sign this route.
The speed limits don't half jump about: 60, 70, 75, 80, 90! and next thing you know, back to 60. You'd be forever on the throttle and brake
@@enigmagamer112 there's no need to adopt that "funny" sarcastic tone as if I'm stupid
Thin queue
a good view from the front but the scenery in cornwall, especially inland will never match that of Cumbria, Yorkshire or Scotland
£80k a year for that?
Nope. Mind your own business. I work for a private company with no government backing so it's got nothing to do with you.
👎🏻 Yet another video with the sound coming from the engine room compartment and not from the cab, and another one I won't be watching.
You do you. It was that or no video at all.
