Thanks for the lovely video! A trick we use in Indian cooking is to fry the garlic, ginger, and spice in a little oil on low heat before adding in the onion. And then cook the onion for less time. This allows you to add your other vegetables in directly by to the mixture without reserving anything, and it helps your spices develop better fragrance and spread better throughout the dish.
Interesting, thank u for the tip
Indian curry is authentic and better. Japanese curry is a novelty, has a unique flavor, I just realized why the curry is thick like a sauce, it is because they add flour. Indian curry gets it thickness from tomatoes and onion.
I think curry does not use sugar at all in cooking it so it can get a savory taste from coconut milk or use liquid milk.
@@INDONESIABUBAR2030BYSPIZYDORI I agree I am not in favor of adding sugar to curry, but I suppose that is what makes it uniquely Japanese perhaps.
Browning the onions first really adds a lot more flavor. Cook the spice mix separately in a little oil before adding to the onions. I got that tip from a chef at an Indian Restaurant.
so good. thank you. also, i love that there's no music. the cooking sounds are music to my ears.
I am Japanese, but there is no other Japanese who makes curry like this except him.
@七尾あかね is this not the right method to make curry?
@@user-dh2mp4cf3f it did seem kinda odd to me
@@user-dh2mp4cf3f he makes it from scratch so he doesn't use curry cubes
@@michi-rt6ho no, he makes it his own way from scratch differently.
Wow, very different from the Japanese curry recipes Ive seen so far. I was actually reading about curries in general today and was surprised to find out Japanese curry has been around for a lot longer than I expected, dating back to the days when the first curry spice mixes were being sold by Indian merchants to European traders, which were then introduced to Japan.
Cool! I always thought of Japanese curry as a more recent, perhaps 20th century invention.
Do you know a "curry" extualy means dish with sauce, the closest thing in English is a "stew". The stew can be any kind. In Bulgaria these type of dishes are called "яхния"- "jhahnia"
The spices and ingredients can be various, depending on a family taste, region, markets, households...
@@ixoraroxi None of that matters, Curry came to Japan via Americans
@@ixoraroxi curry is an english word. a "curry" need not be a stew. it can be a soup or a sauce or even a little bit of spiced oil and water.
@@ThisIsTheInternet don't think that's true. Came through the British I believe.
Being an indian. I was suprised to see everything similar to indian cuisine. The only difference was the sugar, dried tomatoes and riceflour blend. Replace that with fresh tomatoes and you have a completely indian curry.
Sugar is used in some bengali curries. Just a pinch.
Coconut milk is better than rice flour mix for vegan. If it's regular curry I would put yogurt or condensed milk instead.
Do you use "five spices" in your Indian curry? Which region of India are you from?
That's because nothing about this is "japanese curry" except that maybe a japanese person made it
Japanese Curry > Indian Curry
Oh my goodness, your food always looks delicious, but those caramelized onions with garlic and ginger are making my mouth water 💙
It's so difficult to find a Japanese curry from scratch recipe! This really helps those of us who have no access to the curry cubes :) Thank you Thank you thank you!!
This looks so good. I can’t wait to make it! Thank you!
I like the look of lotus root…I will look for it at my local, specialty grocer. The curry looks delicious and quite easy to prepare. Thank-you for the recipe!☺️👍
バーモンドカレーかと思って見たから難易度高過ぎ
なんとも不思議な料理だけど
とっても美味しそう
this is definitely different from the typical japanese curry. and the ingredients used is pretty different. It looks delish though. would be an interesting recipe to try out
Se ve súper delicioso. Muchas gracias por el video, trataré de hacerlo. It looks sooo good. Thanks a lot for the video, I'll try to cook it.
I'm always looking for yummy meals to pack up and take to work. I think this will be added to my list - I love my microwaving soup bowl :3
Wow! Peaceful to watch, looks absolutely delicious, and best part you made look simple. Definitely will try this recipe!
I LOVE that you are uploading videos again, they are beautiful
I want to try this one for sure. Somehow feels like an Indian curry but with Japanese ingredients. Thanks Royoya!
Just made it, tastes really nice. Thanks for the recipe
Looks amazing ♥️ Trying this soon!
That is gorgeous. I need to try it sometime.
Love your cooking as always! really inspire me :)
I just used up the last of my curry roux blocks tonight and was wondering if I should try from scratch next time, im glad I saw your video, I have everything except white sesame paste already! Gonna have to try!
I've been searching for a bit of time now on how to make japanese curry from scratch and back then it was hard to made it because I need to have Curry Roux. But now thanks to you I could make it from scratch and above it all, the recipe you're making are neutral (without any kind of meat) so everyone, apart from what religion they're in, can make japanese curry. Thousand thanks to you. 🙏👍👍👍👍
Every time i feel anxious i put one of yours videos, its waaay too relaxing and i get to learn to cook something
I'm glad this vid suddenly appeared in my youtube home page. This is soothing to watch. You earned my subscription man. Looking forward for more vids. :)
You are soooooooo awesome my friend! I love what you are doing and appreciate the help and inspiration through your videos and art. Thank you ✌️
Looks so interesting. I make so many different varieties of curry- Indian, Chinese, Thai, Trinidadian, Jamaican… can’t wait to try Japanese. The cooking sounds are music to my ears. Thank you for no music.
Thanks for the idea by adding lotus root into curry!
Just had this for my lunch, absolutely delicious!
Absolute brilliance. Thank you.
This curry looks really good...am going to try it out...thank you for sharing this recipe 😘👍
what a beautiful take on japanese curry!
Gorgeous recipe, thank you for sharing 🙏
Now this is what I’m talking about. Just the sound of you cooking, nothing else getting in the way. Thank you for such great video and recipe!
I made this for the first time and I am absolutely blown away with how savory and delicious this dish came out!
Just, beautiful. Thanks for the video
やば、絶対うまいじゃないすか。
Lindo prato parece simples mas complexo deve ter ficado delicioso
Looks delicious 😋
Wow. That's so amazing I could smell from my screen.
This looks amazing. I've had Japanese curry in restaraunts before but never anything like this and it looks relativley simple. Thanks for sharing! :D
YEah, but where the heck will I find lotus root?
@@laponiec Hell, even those nice big spring onions are hard to find, especially in rural America. I actually started looking around online to see if it's something you could order but...not sure. :/
@@djwaglmuffin I live between two countries, while most of very "exotic" stuff like different kinds of roots can be found in chinese markets in the UK, in Poland it is almost impossible to get them products.
Thanks for posting. That looks so delicious.
Can’t wait to try making this!!
I have not seen such a recipe yet. always something new
This is so peaceful to watch. Poetry in motion.
They way your videos touch my heart to the point i felt my eyes burning during the onion clip
As a Japanese all I can say is that is definitely NOT Japanese style curry
It's definitely not! Good shooting skill with poor recipe....
こんなに凝ったカレー作らんよねーーーー🍛
@@vicchen156 there is not a single pinch of salt hahahah
Somehow I agree...
Not Authentic, but I think this recipe are nice to try.
But definitely not call it as Japanese Curry.
it is made to look like it with lotus, lol
Hi, Ryoya, thank you for sharing! I learned this kind of curry from a friend, born in Taiwan, who has lived in Japan for 2 years. She always uses curry cubes. I find them easily in every Asian market. But avoiding ingredients with numbers as much as I can, I prefer to try this. I made a vegetarian cooking book with recipes around the world. It was so interesting to do research and find out, that every country has its own kind of curry, even here in Germany, where it’s called 'Eintopf' which means 'one pot', it shouldn’t be a soup, neither a sauce, but in between. It can consist the curry spice, which is usually in every supermarket, with a lot of the ingredients you used like coriander, turmeric… but the spices are different in every country. I try to combine the countries in peace☮and after my taste: cumin, Garam masala, herbs de Provence (France) or Italian herbs, fresh coriander leaves, soy sauce, fresh ginger, fresh turmeric, and a pinch of Xylit or sugar. The binding I do with Kuzu (Japan😉), arrowroot, corn or potato starch. Vegetables after taste and ingredients in the fridge… today: self grown pumpkin, taro, carrots and kale, and onions. I’ll try your tahin mixture, thinking it’ll give an amazing taste. I love real music, so I enjoy your no-silly-music videos a lot. Love, Monika❣
Great comment about no music sounds. Cooking sound itself is so soothing. Nice video.
That looks so yummy
FINALLY! I BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO!! Now I can try to make Japanese curry without buying instant curry cubes!
This is nothing like japanese curry
This recipe looks delicious, but I don't know if it will taste close to the curry cubes if that is what you are expecting. Honestly if you don't want to use the curry cubes just prepare your curry as normal, but add a curry powder like S&B Oriental Curry Powder instead. Then thicken the curry with a cornflour slurry.
This will be awesome! Really looking forward to this, gonna cook it tomorrow (if the ingredients aint 2 crazy)
This is great, I've always had the kind from the packet, now I know how to make it!
This looks very delicious, although this is a complete different recipe. If you look for something that tastes like golden curry you will need some other spices (like fenugreek is one of the most important ones. :) )
@@dalivanwyngarden3204 Dali you da best love you
I love traditional indian curry, thai green curry, but never had japanese curry before. Definitely would try this!
Beautiful dish. Well done 👍🏼 thank you 🙏🏽
I want to try making kare raisu. I believe it's similar to Indian curry. I'm a vegan from India and your channel brings me peace, happiness, and healing. 🌱🙏🏽💜
Nice recipe. Healthy and looks yummy. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Ryoya-san.. this looks delish!! a curry without curry leaves intrigued me
I think i will make this, frozen in cube and i will have unlimited curry cube for my family to enjoy. Thank you for the recipe😊
Looks fabulous Ryoya. I'm intrigued as to what Lotus root tastes like. I'll have to pop down to one of the specialist supermarkets to see if they stock it.
Lotus roots have extremely Mild to no taste. It is more about texture. It has very similar texture of crunch salad potato. little more waxy, chewy but maintains crunchiness even after its been cooked in high heat. It's a great blank canvas. it is one of my personal favorite vegetable 😋
absolutely beautiful work.
that knife is a work of art
This is a way different from an ordinary japanese curry I ever seen but It looks creamy and tasteful in my opinion.
I really appreciate the no-talk, no-music (background noise) here. I’ll subscribe because of that.
so good.. how to make video like this.. Thanks for the video which is perfect!! and looks so tasty..
The sound of chopping is amazing I enjoyed the video
That rice flour gives it such a beautiful color when it's cooked just like a roux.
Thank you!🛐
Looks amazing going to cook this tonight ✨✨✨
音と映像が映画クオリティなんでレシピ関係なくずっと見てられる
Wow I haven’t watched this channel in a long time. I didn’t realise how much I missed it.
Love that knife!!
Cooking procedure is spot on. Good job
Beautiful video. The light the sound the colour. Fine art
Thank you for the no music ♥️
looks delicious!
Great video as always.
Great video as always, I'll try this Japanese curry. I wanted to taste the curries they were making in those movies, but wasn't sure if the curry cubes will give the same taste.
Thanks a ton.
@x Ok, lol 🤭🤭🤭, Thanks 👍👍👍
This will be nothing like those
@@ThisIsTheInternet why?
@@aishwarya5941 the curry cubes have a lot more spices and this recipe is pretty different from what most people would call a Japanese curry.
@@nsking99 I am sure it is different because Ryoya is vegan and he works hard to make the dishes vegan. As an Indian we eat a lot of curry, which I am sure is also totally different from the Japanese one, but if I'll ever visit Japan, the first thing I'll have is the curry.
P.S I am a vegetarian too.
It looks awesome I bet it taste awesome.
it feels like it would take hours or nearly days to make such exquisite curry
If you had all the ingredients at hands, 30mins from chopping the onion to serving at the table. It wasn’t particularly complex
Thank you Ryoya
Thanks for sharing this recipe. It looks very healthy and yammi. Also your cooking tools look great. Can I know what knife and small wok and pot you are using in this video?
Looks amazing! Do you eat anything with it like bread or rice? Or just eat it like a soup or stew?
oh he's cracked the code to those curry cubes!
Looks delicious 😋 Greetings from Scotland 😊 Have a wonderful day everyone 🌻
This is not a Japanese Curry, this is an Indian Curry.
Oh lordy this appeals. I bet everyone who sees this will make it. Big thanks for no music.
This is different! At last a use for the Lotus root i painstakingly sought out from a Vietnamese shop, cheers for that. I love Curry but always made it the India way so look forward to doing curry the Japanese way. Thanks heaps!
I love the sound
Lovely color.
Thank you 🙏🏼😊
Thank you for this, it made me realize I missed a step while making curry the first time
At last ! A no music video! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👏👏👏
glad to see how similar our cuisine are.😊 🇯🇵🇮🇳
This is amazing
Apart from the vegetables, the rest of the stuff was so, so Indian and relatable! :D Loved watching this.
I love it.
Nice curry from scratch and healthy
An Indian here. This is a beautiful curry recipe. Congrats. Don't take the negative comments to your heart. U did a good job
Manos de hombre cocinando 🔥😍👍🏼
i know this is a very strange thing to comment but i'm not feeling so well right now (flu/covid?) and these videos really help me stay focussed without overwhelming me. thank you so much!!!
I'm a new viewer/subscriber to your site...& all of your posts, so far, are great!
I've noticed that the oldest one I've found is from 8 (?) years ago...wow! Have you been posting continuously for this many years?!
I thank the algorithm goddess for bringing your site to my attention!
As a vegan, it's not easy for me to find delicious meals to prepare. BTW...do you have a cookbook one may purchase?
In one of your posts, you said you create these recipes but, don't eat them, yourself. May I ask why?
Just simply curious.
Thanks for your hard work!!
