- Following a request from a subscriber for a penguin painting I’m painting three Emperor Penguins on their way to visit Baby Jesus with their gifts, who have unfortunately got lost on their way across the ice floes. I still love these penguins! And I love the story behind this painting. If only they'd look they would see that Jesus is near. Thank you for this fun little painting, it made my heart smile on this June the evening. Thanks Sylvia, appreciate your feedback. Yes, I originally drew them freehand, then I did the tracing for the sketch download, and when I painted the original sketch I forgot to turn on the camera. So, in order to make sure my painting was the same as the downloadable sketch, I had to trace the sketch! Are you following this?????? Don't you wish you'd never asked????? :) :) :)

It may be whimsical but I love it! We have a penguin colony outside Cape Town. They’re not emperor penguins but the colouring is pretty similar.

Oh my goodness Diane, I love your creativity! I've never painted a penguin before and what better way to paint one than doing it in the theme of Christmas. Your charming story about the penguins on their way to visit Baby Jesus is really quite sweet. The little gifts they are bringing is such a cute touch. Thank you for the encouraging words, Diane. I mainly use Daniel Smith and W&N Professional & Cotman. I usually use Canson Montval watercolor paper for practice and Fabriano 1264 Aquarelle. And I know I have a habit of getting in a hurry and forget to wait for the first wash to dry before going in to get the color I want 🥴
