If I didn’t even want to learn to paint I would enjoy watching you and hearing your stories. Like listening to a new friend. You are unique and lovely.
Oh Diane you are a gem! Before I found you, I purchased a watercolor “block” and when it came to me in the mail, I had NO idea how to get the pages off. I didn’t realize the page was glued and why it was glued. So I painstakingly chiseled each page off to paint on it. 🤣🤣 I love love your style and I am truly mg so hard to be like you when I grow up. Haha I’m in my 60’s too!
You used the sword liner! Thank goodness! You're the ONLY painter here to tell me how to use that brush and in SO many different ways!! Thank you Diane! This tree is gorgeous. I love it! Am going to do this at the weekend! Your tutorials are Very inspirational! Thank you! Mel 🍰🌻
Diane, it was so enjoyable watching this tutorial and seeing your cheerful oak tree come to life. The birds are a sweet touch. I haven't had much success in painting trees, but you sure make this look easy and fun so I'm going to watch the video again and paint along with you. In the veterinarian office that I take my dogs to, they have 4 tree paintings clustered together year round, one for every season. If you're ever searching in your mind for another tutorial idea, that would be fun. The lesson on your color mixing is helpful and the sword liner is so cool!
Thanks Carolyn for your positive comments, that’s great thank you, and thanks for the idea about four seasons trees - I think that’s a fantastic idea and I will probably be going for it!
I've watched people detail car's with sword brushes it's amazing how steady they are. Although they use one hand to steady the other. That would be a fun brush to use for watercolor. I love this painting using all the greens.
Yes, I‘ve seen video of people doing it, years ago it was a well-known skill. I think that signwriters used to use similar techniques to paint shop signs and so on. People have largely lost most of these skills haven‘t they, due to printing taking over.
My 17th. I skipped yesterdays watching because of celebrating a silver wedding of good friends. No worry, I will watch two or three tomorrow. Thanks for this video. Lots of practice different brushes and yes a bit meditative. With too many wines yesterday I had probably too much alcohol left in my body, but I enjoyed watching ( and I didn't fell asleep haha😮) I will remember you saying THERE IS MORE WAYS OF DOING MOST THINGS. Also : keep going till you like what you did. Thanks again and have a nice day Wim.
Hi Wim, glad you had a nice celebrating yesterday, amazing how the numbers add up, 17 already?? When the alcohol is all gone you’ll enjoy more painting no doubt. Thanks again for all your support, best wishes, Diane xxx
Well Diane i think this turned out lovely... I worried that with the leaves the birds would not fit.... and that we would confuse the birds with the leaves but your style works perfectly... The yellow birds are the perfect color... Thoroughly enjoyed this .. i'm slowly catching up after vacation... Hugs! deb
Such a super informative lesson! It’s wonderful! I learned so much! The end result is amazing! Now…..I have another book in my wish list! You always bring so much to the table for us…(including great coffee)🤪! XOXO❤️❤️❤️
loved this and appreciate the time you take…often watch other videos and theyre like warp speed.its just not a relaxed vibe! appreciate your time and talent!
Please send some of your rain to us here in Spain.. we’ve had barely any rain for months 😩 thank you for showing and naming the different brushes, as a beginner, that was very useful.
I think it was this video. I watch all of them and often so not quite sure if this is the one you mentioned your followers that are mobility challenged. Wheelchair for me outside of the condo. Bed 90%. I sketch and paint in bed often while watching you paint. Thank you for acknowledging that. It was finally my birthday May 1 and I allowed myself lol to open my present from me to me via Amazon a Kuretake set. I was surprised at how large the pans were as I popped the top off and had pans of paint all over the bed and me I can't wait to actually use them on paper! Thanks for always inspiring me Diane.
Hi Gayle and thanks for your kind comments. I’m glad you didn’t mind me mentioning that there were people who are physically challenged who watch our videos - I actually think that the majority of our loyal followers are suffering in some way from anything from minor to serious physical inhibition - be it failing eyes, tremors, strokes, the list is very long and people have shared this often. I’m sorry you are confined to bed so much, it must be very hard. I hope you enjoy the paints you’ve just received for your birthday! Tamsin suggested that to make them easier to deal with if you’re painting from your bed would be to have a smaller flat box which would hold a smaller selection of colors you plan to use and take up less space on the bed. I think that’s a good idea, as you never use all the colors in one painting. Let me know what you think!
@@DianeAntoneStudio You recently used 3 colors to do a piece rose, indigo and sap green. With all the colors of the rainbow available as artists we sometimes need that challenge of using fewer colors. Yes lol you are teaching an old dog tricks they did before. Thank you Tamsin for thinking of the difficulties of physical challenges of painting in bed. I have a laptop table that even slants that I use. I use to work very large watercolor on canvas. Now down to 8x10 or so. Storage as you well know can be an issue. I have sold many watercolor over the years which means I'm storing a whole lot more. Diane have you used the watercolor wax on any of your pieces yet.? I have seen it on other RUclips artist's video. Trying first on a bookmark. Would love to see your experience and demonstration of the wax. Thank you everyday for being my watercolor partner in color. Oh! If you haven't seen it the movie about Frida Kahlo. Frida was made in 2002. Not advertising wax or movie. Just a product I like to get your opinion on and suggest a very good movie about a woman artist. Now I'll be quiet and paint...lol.
Your tree looks awesome Diane! I like the Hake brush. It was perfect for the background!! (Who would have thought.) Must get one. - And the Script Liner looks super useful‼️ I’ll be getting one of those very soon! 👍🏻 - All the ones I’ve seen so far, just don’t suit my needs. But this one looks perfect for me. I’ll check to see if you’ve posted it below. 💙
Love that. I love trees. Hope you do more. Maybe, some birch trees, oh so many to choose from. I just bought the paint set your using along with uni ball signs and gel pens, from your Amazon link can’t wait till they arrive.

No, Michelle, sorry that was meant to be a lighthearted response to your comment. I’m afraid my sense of humour doesn’t travel well through the internet! Of course I appreciate your comments, I read all comments and always try to respond to suggestions. Sorry to upset you x
So effective! Reminded me of a hedge in a lane ( Leicestershire) where I kept my horse - in summer flocks of yellowhammers used to descend to sit like lemons between the folliage. I fed them with sunflower seeds every morning when they made a yellow cloud around us! I've got to try this painting - thanks for the memory!! x
Marvelous Zen-like tree. I'll give this a whirl, try red birds. Lovely! (And I've had issues with the Etchr paper as well, when it first came onto the market).
Yes! I had to bite my tongue to stop myself saying that on the video! God knows how many people I would have offended! But my father always used to say that, being a naval chappy! He also used to say there’s not enough room to swing a cat- but I believe that was referring to a cat of nine tails, or a whip! We hardly know what we’re saying, sometimes!
It so ridiculous how people are so easily offended now day's. As my mother would say Stick's and Stones will break my bones but name will never hurt me.
Oh Diane,we have a lovely man at our art group who had never heard of block pads,he was watching me paint and suddenly said ' your pages are stuck together ' I said 'no its a block ' he didn't understand ,in the end I had to literally throw myself onto my pad because he was trying to wrestle it off me to seperate the pages, it took a hell of a lot of convincing ,in the end I could of punched him on the nose he was being so annoying, I had to enlist the help of his wife ,also in our group, she told him not to be so silly but she didn't know what a block was either, I was exhausted ,he hasn't spoken to me for a few weeks so he probably got a good telling off ☺
I talk about it a bit in the next tutorial coming Sunday. I’m not sure if there is an exact definition, but for me it the difference between traditional methods of representing shape, color, perspective and composition, and the modern trend for throwing all of that out of the window and treating a painting more as a design than as a photograph. I suppose it might have developed out of the loose watercolor trend, and has been influenced for sure by digital art and the ability to cut things apart and reposition them… it’s a whole other way of making art!
Hello Diane, I’ve been searching for months now for a certain colour that has a soft look/feeling… and I think you have it. :)) Would you be so kind as to let me know the name and brand of the soft yellow colour that’s directly in the middle of one length side of your pallet. (If you have time.) Much appreciated. 🫶 (It’s sitting beside another darker yellow.) Thanks Diane 😊
That’s Naples Yellow. The one I have on that palette is Schmincke, and it’s quite light, some Naples Yellows are much stronger. Some companies offer Naples Yellow Light and Naples Yellow Dark…Hope this helps!
