Love all your tutorials, and just because of how I am, had to look up the name, for that part of the feather. Now I know, the hollow shaft, and now you know ! Aren't we two smart ladies!
I am a self taught beginner, beginner and although I haven't been brave enough to try your paintings I just love your techniques. Thank you for helping my learning process. Love you 💜
What a lovely video. I felt like we were chatting in your garden, listening to the birds as you took me through your process. I put some salt on mine, so awaiting that effect! Thanks so much! I'll definitely be watching you again!!
I also feed my dogs mostly raw meat. Their coats are beautiful and they smell lovely. I love your candor. I am new here. I will be watching so many more of your videos. Cheers. Thank you for being you .
I have watched this feather video twice now, and I have to tell you, this is the most realistic on watercolor feathers that I have ever seen. Diane, you are an amazing watercolor teacher!
Yay I love painting feathers 👏👏👏. Thank you Diane. This will be my weekend fun project.. Thank you for sharing your junk journal. Paper outpost is a great channel.
I broke my ankle at Christmas and I binge watched your videos. I started painting feathers in watercolor from an earlier video you did, loved it! One of the few things that gave me joy whilst I recuperated. Now have a dedicated painting space/sewing space and I’m getting braver. Need lots of work in landscapes. Thank so much Diane.
Glad your ankle is getting better Wendy, that’s a painful break to go through. Glad you enjoy the painting sessions! Landscapes are always a bit of a challenge, but fun to do!
I loved this tutorial. Please consider a tutorial on my favorite feather. I have always wanted to do a white peacock feather. It truly looks as if it came from an angel. Thanks...
You are sooo amazing 👏🏽 😍 Really enjoyed your feathers and especially the cranky Frenchman expression 🤣 Hope I can ever make these wonderful paintings! THANK 🌹❤️
Wow, yesterday I saw a feather in the park and thought I should pick that up and paint it ! I did not so I could paint one with you today! Thank you Diane❤
Diane, these feathers are arguably the most beautiful things you have ever done! The colours are amazing. I’m working on your Cornish fishing village but this is a definite project.
The feathers are a fun painting... happy to see your first Junk Journal. Pam at paper outpost is fun to work with..hope you enjoy making them.Blessings Jo
I thoroughly enjoyed this tutorial - I love the variety of the three finished feathers...............hmmmm - which is my favorite?! I do rather like the dramatic colors of the third one, but I don't know if I can choose, so I will just have to do them all! I recently painted a feather for a card and I KNOW I will use these examples for inspiration for more...........using the colors you chose and then experimenting with other colors. Thank you, Diane!🥰
I watch her too. I find her quite amusing and unapologetic for her choices styles etc. But to get anywhere one has got to have a hint of pride in oneself😅 I also have matboard hanging around. Perhaps I should try it!
Hi Diane, thanks so much for your kind words! I have figured out now that the "junk" element is supposed to mean that the things which make the journal are things that would otherwise be relegated to the category of "junk" - I think mine qualifies because everything I've used to put it together was lying around uncared-for in my studio or house, although it hadn't made it to the recycling bin! I'm not attracted to the idea of making the pages out of flyers (they will degrade quickly) or old book pages (struggle to tear pages out... but learning!) and I have a stash of old art paper which isn't really suitable for painting on so it was a no-brainer so to speak! I'll be showing everyone the next pages soon! Thanks for your support xxx
I think the red/pink/purple feather is the prettiest thing I've ever seen!! Can't believe what you created from nothing...and that's the most miraculous movement of watercolor I've ever seen. 😊
Wonderful. just gorgeous as usual. Thank you for sharing your talent with us, we, at least I, so look forward to these beautiful bits of art. Have a peaceful day Diane, stay safe and I await for your next painting journey. 🥰

Hey Diane, these feathers 🪶 are so beautiful and yes I believe they would be great in my junk journal I’m still having problems doing my feathers, but hopefully after this tutorial I’ll do much better. Thank you for sharing your junk journal with us, your doing an amazing job to just be a beginner! Heck I’m still having a hard time doing my spine binding….in due time I’ll get it. Oh I just love Pam at the paper outpost she is brilliant at teaching and like you explains things well. Her since of humor alone is priceless and I’ve noticed since I started watching your channel you have that little humor in you too! I love watching you and painting with you (wasn’t able to today, I’ll rewatch and give it a try) Again thanks for all your wonderful videos and your kindness of sharing 😊🎨💜📓
Hi Tamy, thanks so much for your lovely comments about my little efforts with the journals! Lots to learn!!!! Pam is great for me because she explains things in a logical way that I can follow. Sometimes I feel people jump around all over the place and they lose me but she is organised. Even though she is lighthearted and jokey and even downright silly! I mean those birds in the background! I thought my chaffinches were noisy but her birds are just hilarious!
@@DianeAntoneStudio 😂🤣 I asked her once if she lived in the jungle 😂 Holly is a grey parrot (I believe) and yeah very vocal. Now her and Sunshine (Sunny) her beautiful little dog, just crack me up and I find myself laughing at this silly phone. I did get my feathers 🪶 painted and eh….not to bad after I done the wet on wet like you showed us. Looking forward to the next video 💜💕
Glad you enjoyed this one Denise! Another one to keep our minds off things which bother us. The great thing about feathers is that they are absolutely undemanding once you’ve got the basic idea! They can be embellished as much as you like! I think the girls will like giving them a go don’t you?
Another great tutorial! You are an amazing teacher, Diane! Even my practice feathers turned out great! Thanks for all yours and Tamsin's hard work putting these videos together. You are both very much appreciated.
Oh, my… besides the inspiration to paint that you provide, now I am intrigued by the Gypsy book of spells which I just ordered! I grew up with my mother’s sweet dog named….. “Gypsy”! I have long believed in “signs” so there we go! Loved the French mimic and, as always, the sounds of all of the animals. Have you ever tried painting with your left hand? Be well and joyful!
These are absolutely gorgeous! And incredibly inspirational. Funny thing, when I was quite young, I was given a child size white organ on a metal stand for Christmas. I learned to play it beautifully eventually, but the one song I ran around the house singing was the "lavender blue dilly dilly, lavender green," etc. I instantly began to sing when I perused this video! Toyland was another goodie. Ah it's a walk down memory lane...thank you, Diane. I learn more from your channel than anywhere else on RUclips. You even inspired me to make a pencil cup and brush cup from a cardboard container that housed an 6.8 oz candle. They were amazing and I have you to thank for the boost! Have a lovely day, Diane. Always a treat to stop by, see what you're up to each day! (and I've come to LOVE your rooster!) :) Fanna Denver, CO
Diane, these are lovely! We've moved along from birds to feathers :) The colors are so rich and as always, you've shared a lot of techniques. Thank you!
Wow! You've really taken off in the junk journal! You must really love it! Its wonderful isn't it? Just things that please you.. no rules.. just anything.. Your book is lovely... I just love this painting subject! I don't have time to watch the whole video right now but will be back over coffee tomorrow morning! Hugs! deb
I have just finished the video over coffee and breakfast and what a wonderful video it was! I'am inspired to paint feathers!!!! They are so lovely and so varied! I'm sure they are more difficult than you make them seem but i want to give it a go.. I hope you find the food you want for your dogs.. We are pet free at the moment , have been for the past few years after our black cat passed.. (Jinx) Hubby has allergies and other health issues and it just seemed best.. Miss having a dog or cat though.. thought about fish.. lol Take care Diane. See you next time! Hugs! deb
Thanks so much Deb for your lovely comment! Sorry about your Jinx, you must miss his companionship x I know you'll enjoy the feathers, they really are easier than you think. I had never painted one until a year ago when I did one for the channel and it turned out okay!

Oh I love this Diane , I must try this I went to a charity shop a few months ago and found one of those 1990's ceramic large white square plates with little dip bowls for food and it's perfect for mixing my paints on I really enjoyed this video Thank you for making it for us 😊 xx
Wow, what a lucky find! I really should hunt around in the back of my china sideboard and see whether I've got anything like that tucked away!!! I do miss the English charity shops!
Love to hear you feed your dogs fresh meat! The best thing for them, because the enzymes are still intact in fresh meat, they are dead in tins. It has become more difficult to find good meat here in Germany too. We even buy organic meat for our rescue doggy, she is spoiled to the bone but she is worth it 🙂 We are both vegan so I guess she is entitled to her good meat, that's the way we see it. Love your feathers! Going to try it too!
Yes, we invest a lot of money in keeping the dogs healthy! It really pays off as they haven’t had a day’s illness in their entire (8 years) lives! Totally agree about the nutrition - and we are vegetarian ourselves!
What a pleasure this video was to come across , you have inspired me to have a go thank you for your tutorial , clear and easy to follow & free time , Debs 💋
These are so, so beautiful! I've been following a few of your tutorials for this year's ICAD (Index Card A Day for 61 days), and even on cheap paper they've been coming out better than expected. I attribute this to your teaching, it's so enjoyable and you've given me the confidence to try new things. I just received my set of 48 Poetique brush pens today (what a great deal!), and I'm having such fun trying them out. Thank you for posting your art and sharing what you know, it's very much appreciated.
Hi there, so glad that you’re enjoying the videos and I hope you are happy with your brush pens, I think they’re great! I haven’t heard about the ICAD. challenge - I must look into that! Thanks so much for commenting - happy painting!
So excited that on Monday I will receive my Potter’s pink and Quin gold! Yay! Also found my glass pen that I’ve never used. Wow! Really fun and freeing! Great fun coming to paint with you! Your feathers are inspiring.❤️
@@DianeAntoneStudio oh yes! I got Potter’s pink, quin gold and a neutral tint.you are absolutely right! What a difference mixing colors. I’ve been pulling up some of your videos, where you especially use and discuss them. I am so grateful for all I am learning from you. I am worried.about you and the heat wave that is moving through Europe right now! It was 108 degrees her in California this week, but we are a bit more used to it…..and have AC. Please drink lots of water and I know I don’t have to worry about your critters. You’ll care for them more than yourself! Please stay cool and paint! I’ll post some pics when they are good enough! ❤️❤️❤️
how funny, i did a 5 feather color pencil drawing on black paper the other day and then you do these :D i quite like your book, looks good. i've made a few but i never go anywhere, and i'm still filling a big one a friend got for me, so i haven't used them yet.
Also love the bird and the chicken sounds in the background. It sounds like my place! ❤

Diane, I don't understand why they're called "junk journals" if yours is an example of the art. Yours is a treasure.
Just beautiful And in case you're curious, as I was, this is what I found out about the parts of the feather: The shaft runs the length of the feather and is divided into the calamus and the rachis. The calamus is the part of the shaft held in the feather follicle on the skin of the bird. The rachis is the rest of the shaft after the calamus. At the junction of the calamus and rachis is the plumulaceous portion of the vane.

Hi there, so glad that you’re enjoying the videos and I hope you are happy with your brush pens, I think they’re great! I haven’t heard about the ICAD. challenge - I must look into that! Thanks so much for commenting - happy painting!
I was looking for those in joggles and other places. I couldn't find them. Where did u go?
Oops, for the poetic pens
❤️
So excited that on Monday I will receive my Potter’s pink and Quin gold! Yay!
Also found my glass pen that I’ve never used. Wow! Really fun and freeing!
Great fun coming to paint with you! Your feathers are inspiring.❤️
Have you tried out the new colors yet Posie???
Thanks so much!
