    I recently started coming across your videos because they were suggested to me. I am an artist and love to draw (and most recently ) watercolor people and especially cats. I saw the way you painted cats in this video and it really inspired me to use this technique and then build off of it to create my own kind of kitties... I love listening to your calm voice and how relaxing your videos are to watch. I also love how you made a comment either in this video or another - of how there is already so much "real" stuff that we see in real life - so it is good to have fun and create things that aren't real.... And we need that escapism in our real lives...Because real life can be tough and stressful at times -For many of us - art is our escape (myself included)... So thank you for saying that...and thank you for your whimsical work - it is such an inspiration to me and I just love your style... I have added your style along with Jane Davenport and Tara Laporte along into my art inspirations - Keep on doing what you are doing. You are a joy to watch.

    I feel like A junk journal is like a memory book to me. I love nature and I am always picking up some bit of something along my path and it’s a lovely place to put these things in. Perhaps feathers from your chickens and pressed flowers from your garden and a postcard with a lovely painting on it. You should give it a go and try putting it on your channel once a week. I think that would be great! Have fun

      What a fabulous idea Debra! I too am always picking up feathers and odds and ends. I must get round to pressing some flowers. Pansies come to mind! And I am going to think about the idea of doing the junk journal as part of the channel offerings. It fits in perfectly with everything that interests me. Thanks very much for the support, I really appreciate it xxx

    I enjoyed this video very much. Regarding junk journals: i felt like crying watching someone destroy an old hymnal. Definitely use a book you don't like. An old textbook might be interesting. What you do in the journal should be something fun to look through. Thank you for breaking down a cat. I will try drawing one tomorrow using your insights.

    Love these cats, and I’m learning so much from your videos.
    I do make junk journals… I write in them, add in little bits of ephemera, such as my theatre tickets, receipts from museum entry, bus tickets, etc. I always put in drawing paper, sometimes a gusseted pocket to hold a couple pencils. Watercolor paper would be lovely. As far as tearing apart a book… I use a lot of aged textbooks, many outdated. Magazine pages, sometimes gessoed over, and lined paper, graph paper, tabulation paper… they all lend themselves to different ways to express myself, either in words or in drawings, or in images I have found interesting. I put in photos I have taken, as well as cut out images from magazines that may inspire future art.
    I can imagine your junk journal containing lots of whimsical sketches, along with things that inspire you. You don’t have to include book pages, as there are no rules what HAS to go in a junk journal.

      Hi Elisabeth and thanks so much for your interesting message. I'm beginning to get the feel for what a junk journal is now. It seems to me to be a combination of lots of ideas - a mixture of bookbinding a scrapbook/photo album/sketchbook incorporating decoupage, collage and needlework and filled with 2D memorabilia - in other words all the crafts I have enjoyed over the years combined into one project! What fun. I shall have to start making one immediately!! Thanks so much again for your input, much appreciated!

    I thank you for sharing your way of drawing a cat. I think it is wonderful. I paint along everyday - and get such great inspiration from you. When you asked about the junk journalling and where to get books - I had the same question - I asked a junk journalling artist & he said he gets his books from Thrift shops - then he doesn't feel bad about tearing them up. He also does painting on sheet music - and he said he gets that from thrift stores as well when he can.

    I’ve just come across this video and love the cat demo. You asked about junk journaling and as someone who enjoys making them I must first say that it’s not about ripping up your favorite books, its more about making art papers and binding them together into a journal form. True junk journals are made from recycled or “ throw away” type papers that are embellished with ephemera and any art you wish to make. They can be personal journals of art and can of course include writings as well. It’s a platform for creativity. You have probably already looked into this as its 6 months down the road but this is my experience.

    • @DianeAntoneStudio
      @DianeAntoneStudio  Год назад +2

      Hi Donna, thanks so much for your interesting comments about junk journals. Since I made that video I have created a journal myself, using the instructions from the paper outpost channel. Pam is very good at showing and telling how to do these things. I wish I had more time to spend on it as it is a very gratifying occupation. I finished my first one, and now I am writing in it occasionally. I recently heard of a new take on this idea. People are starting to call them smash books. I think it’s basically the same thing but based on using a discarded book as the basis. I found it quite exciting to actually create the cover and the spine and to stitch together the pages. that seems to be more interesting to me. Anyway, I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos, hope you watch many more of my painting demos!

      @tonimastro636 - my grandmother took up painting around 70, after she had been widowed for many years, and had also become a Senior Companion for mentally and physically challenged people. She continued to expand her talents until after 94 yr old, when her eyesight began to falter. She quilted (by hand!) until very close to her departure, just 2 wks short of her 97th BD. I wish she had held on longer, to have been able to get into digital photography, as well as having her world expanded by the many artisans on RUclips. You’re never too old to learn something new😁❣️

    I love these two kitties and i will definitely try my hand and see how they come out. I'm new to watercolor but am just having a blast, and often a big laugh at my efforts. You mentioned junk journaling and that was new to me until my daughter in law mentioned it one day and we started talking. Apparently, it's a type of self made "scrapbook" but one with various pockets made of, for instance, the return envelopes you typically toss, and other similar ways of holding things, It's like a three dimensional scrapbook, to hold various small things you treasure - ticket stubs to a fabulous concert, or invitations to weddings etc...no one way to make them - that's where your personal creativity comes in. Sounds fun but I'll probably not make one, too many other things going on right now.

    Hi Diane, loved this and I'll give it a go. Back o a few of your questions. I'm an English tutor to primary school kids and they do love to colour in. At times there is a drawing exercise to complement thier learning such as draw a snowman under a rainbow wearing a bowtie. They always love to do these and are very happy when I bring the pencils for them to colour in! I love it too...and draw on the board too!!!
    As for the junk journaling (or journaling) I had the same question ( what do you do with all the journals you make? I was watching a RUclips on that yesterday (The Unexpected Gypsy) She said one thing she does or we can do is write, draw, paste our dreams...visualise it...and they will happen. Kind of like a prayer I guess. Anyhow that part of it seemed to make sense to me. Perhaps it's also as a keepsake for family to rummage through when were gone? Anyhow I'm not sure I could put hours of effort into it.....I do have a writing journal that I write in from time to time...not often...just more things I think are significant to me. Dreams I have, poems, happenings etc.
    Thanks again for all your lovely ideas! xx

    Junk journal is to take paper and reuse it by making a book. I've made them with pockets to hold letters I receive; I've used old paper from books I'd throw out to make a calender journal each year; I make spiritual journals or prayer journals, I truly enjoy making one with Journaling cards to write sayings my grand daughter said or did that amuses me.....the uses and embellishing are endless.

Ticket stubs, time cards, receipts, ledgers, prescriptions, postcards, postage stamps. Arrange them all in beautiful ways that draw a person in for a look. WOW!!!!! Fifty???? What do you use for the covers Jacqueline? I am very new to this and so far I’ve only seen people using scrap cardboard from cereal boxes and so on. I have quite a few pieces of cardboard lying around from the backs of pads of water colour which I thought might work. And to you do sewn signatures for your groups of paper? Or is there another way?

    • @jacquelineremus8674
      @jacquelineremus8674 2 года назад

      @@DianeAntoneStudio Cereal boxes, cardboard, and a lot of books that I have gutted for covers. Tearing apart books does seem difficult but I buy books that I will never read from thrift stores and take the discarded ones from the library. I usually cover them in fabric or paint them.
      The best way to bind them is to use a 3 hole stitch on the signatures. Awkward at first but eventually becomes second nature. You can also use staples, ribbon, or tape.
      They are so much fun. You would be great at it with all your artistic skills.

    Thanks for the Kitties! I will work on them this afternoon after I do a bit of Junk Journalling. What do I do with junk journals? Make sure you include a lot of pockets and envelopes in the journal. Now go through the bottom of you handbags, and the junk drawer in the kitchen, the glove box in the car - you get the idea - and pull out any receipts,, candy wrappers, lists and notes. Either glue stick them on blank pages or just tuck them into a pocket in the journal. Also, I like printing out song lyrics on patterned paper and including the lyrics that are "calling to me" that day. You can fold them however you like and tuck them in. Actually, after you haven't looked at the journal for quite some time, you can slowly go through out and bring up a lot of memories. It's making art out of the mundane parts of your life. Enjoy!

I think it'll be great. Meanwhile, I'm diving through photos, music, lyrics, poems - all sorts! Plus a big pile of paintings to cut up! Great hobby. Thanks so much!

    Diane!!!! Two of my favorite things! Cats and Poirot….( and Miss Marple…I guess that’s three…) so, so fun and I’ll never have trouble with the nose/mouth on a cat again! Thank you! I hope your husband is home and healing and no more trips to hospital for you. Please don’t worry about a video every day! We’ll all still be here. We won’t go away! You have enough on your plate. I’ve seen a lovely community here on your channel. You are loved!❤️

      Hi Posie, thanks so much for your lovely words of support. Husband is still in hospital, they are having trouble getting his bowels moving again! It has happened before after an anaesthetic so I think he might be in for an enema today, and hopefully home tonight or tomorrow. It's quiet without him! The channel keeps me sane and focussed and I'm so grateful for all the loving support it brings me, that means you (among others!) xxxxx

    I love the whimsy of these paintings, I was waiting for you to add the butterfly. I have watercolor pencils and ever use them. Thanks for the demonstration. I love all of your whimsical ideas, and am beginning to enjoy the spontaneity of doing them myself.
    I have a friend who does junk journaling. She puts in pieces of lace, ribbon, leaves, etc. along with doodles and writes a few thoughts and observations. She says she expects her grand children to learn about her by reading them after she is gone. She also says that through the time she has been doing them, she observes how therapeutic they are. The first ones were dark, now they are light and more joyful….. perhaps we all should be doing them.!🦋🦋🦋

    Junk journals are to be what you want them to be: a place you can doodle, paint, collage, glue in pieces of poetry or inspirational quotes, photos, or mementos. They can look rough or refined, they can be made out of any kind of paper that you like ( or don’t like, just cover it with paint). They can be pocket or purse sized, or larger. They can be given as gifts of a little art sample book to a friend to just look at because it’s beautiful and it comes from your heart. Can you tell I’ve made some and I enjoyed it very much? Give it a try and see what you think. I would love to see a video of what you do with your ideas. Thank you for all of your “showing”, I have been learning much from you, Diane!

    I would use your cats in a junk journal, cut them out, use them for Journaling on the back and tuck them in a pocket. The book thing is throwing me. You can repurpose books but I have never seen a junk journal that used the kind of books you are speaking of. If you want to see beautiful junk journals, a collection of artful works, look up Gayle Agostinelli. She is a master in my opinion. It's an art form. Some people use things like junk mail we all get and repurpose envelopes and flyers recreating miniture works of art. I bet your journal would be exquisite. It's a wonderful world of artists creating and making the world a better place. Create joy...that's what you do with them.

    Hi Diane, love your kitty cats. You asked about “junk journals “. I am currently making junk journals. There are as many versions of “junk journals” as there are "people who make them. I have not used old books. I prefer to make my journals from “junk”. Something that would go in the trash. Like a cereal box is the cardboard that makes the cover. Paper is junk mail letters and envelopes. Paint over the print or cover with a pretty napkin etc. some people make Art. Journals , others make journals to write in , some make them for both. That is what I do. I like watching your videos and put your whimsical animals in it.
    It’s some place to keep the drawings and I get so much joy looking through them and recalling the joy of making it,drawing and painting.

    I make junk journals and it encompasses all the crafts I love ie art, collage writing sewing, gluing, stencilling etc creating a beautiful book I can journal in. You have many options. You can make book from scratch sewing in the signatures using a book cover or making your own to house it. You can repurpose a book which otherwise may go to the dump. This is an altered book and some pages are torn out and pages covered in decorated paper of gessoed to be used for painting. The pages that are torn out can be used to make tags and pockets. Really in junk journalling nothing is wasted. It can be hard to use a book sometimes. I have books I bought for the illustrations to use in journals which I can't bring myself to use. Though if something is added to my journal it gets looked at many times as I love my journals so much I flip through them from front to back many times over the months I am using it. Magazines are a good resource and I find I can use them more easily than a beautiful book. Do make a journal. It is a wonderful creative thing to do. It has brought me a lot of joy. And you can incorporate watercolour paper for art in it. You can also dye pages with coffee or other dyes from veg or food colouring to create your own beautiful pages.

      Hi Sheryl, thanks so much for your lovely message! You'll be pleased to know that shortly after I made that video I decided to give it a go and I made a journal from scratch, using the instructions from Pam at Paper Outpost, who I find very clear. I have been filling this first one with lots of mementos I had accumulated over the years, as well as my own art, some decoupaged napkins, postcards, letters, envelopes, photos, pressed flowers, lace, braid, fabric, and some lovely handmade inserts which a subscriber sent to me... it's coming along very well! Thanks for the encouragement, I have found this a wonderful antidote to stress, and often at the end of the day I flip through it and stick another thing in! Glad you are a subscriber and hope you enjoy the videos!! Best wishes, Diane xxx
