Whimsical Watercolor Birds for Beginners - Easy Tutorial to Master Wet in Wet and Pen and Ink

- Today I'm painting three whimsical birds with a vintage feel, using a few colors selected from two sets of Daniel Smith watercolor tubes - the set of six Primatek colors, and the set of six Jean Haines All That Shimmers colors. I am painting wet in wet on a 100% cellulose paper, Etival by Clairefontaine, and I am using Sennelier Walnut colored ink with a dip pen for the lines. Oh Diane....these three happy little guys are adorable! I love the whimsical and vintage look of this painting. Your use of wet on dry for the birds was brilliant, as it gave it the look of soft feathers.The shimmer paints you used added such unique and lovely touches on the bird's chests, as well as the leaves. Oh, and your very creative approach of using the tracing paper to line up the eyes will save me many a paintings. I can't tell you how many times my bird's eyes or beaks don't line up. I love learning from you. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.

The farm life theme I thought was very fitting for you. Hi Jacqui, lovely to hear from you, I think it's been a while since I saw a comment from you? I hope you're keeping well xx Yes, my husband's hand is now long in the past and since then he's had a major hernia repair operation and is undergoing physio for the severe nerve pain he has in his back and leg. Plus he is having treatment for a small skin cancer lesion on his head! He's a bit of a health disaster basically! So glad you are enjoying watching the videos, but it's a shame you aren't able to do any painting yourself.I hope you come back to it soon. We are all well thanks, and the ladies are laying well although in the last year we have lost 6 to old age and now only have 7 including the cockerel we are getting more than enough eggs! Sorry about the lack of music. It's basically to save time, as putting the music in place takes a lot of work and Tamsin is under a lot of pressure - she does put music in the shorts but not in the full-length videos any more. I might try to persuade her to musically accompany one once in a while though. I miss it too myself. Thanks again for your lovely kind message, and I'm sending love and prayers your way also. I’m trying to get an eBay store up and running, and it’s been a pretty big undertaking for me. Trying to do something that will help allow him to retire before too many more years. I’ve gotten most of the red tape behind me, and am starting to list items. It just takes forever! I admit that I’m pretty slow at it. eBay just wants so much info on each item! Too much, really. More than the customers will even read, most likely. But, it must be done.
I hope to start listing my vintage jewelry soon. 😉 it’ll be particularly difficult, but hopefully will pay off! 😃 I have so much inventory!
I’ll be praying extra for your dear hubby. Sincerely, I do hate he’s facing so much. I, unfortunately, understand all too well. I pray it’s all over soon. I’d imagine that being a farmer, it’s especially hard for him to slow down and take care of himself. I know that my husband is pretty stubborn about it. Can’t hardly get him to slow down at all. I think he thinks himself still about forty years younger than he is…or so he tries to act…working in that summer heat! I love him so much, don’t want anything to happen to him!

I Love that we can be creative for 20 minutes and get a satisfying little sweet painting from it. It gives some relief from the very involved complicated landscapes that I have been trying to do. These are precious! I just started painting, I haven’t since high school…I’m 46, I have 5 children..2 of which are adults while my younger 3 are 15 13 11, as they get older they need me in different ways, which now leaves me with some free time that I have no clue what to do with… so I’m going to try painting again. I love to sketch what your painting during my lunch break,I do a few at a time, and then save them in my book for when I have some free time to paint, all very relaxing! 💕 thank you

That's really good to hear Cynthia. Almost every painting can be rescued if you keep going long enough, I think. At least you can cut it up into bookmarks or use it for junk journals or note cards if big enough. And if all else fails, you will have learnt a lot! Me too! Although mostly we used to make little balls of blotting paper and poke them into the inkwells to throw at people.... those were the days!
