This is one of the most detailed "documentary" videos about P!ATD's history, but it's especially bittersweet after today's news. Completely understand and respect B's decision though. Sucks that he's ending it after nearly two decades, but grateful that I had the chance to see him in Vegas. Definitely gonna miss him, but it's not goodbye; it's just "See you later". Wishing B & Sarah the best in the next chapter. Sidenote: Completely agree with you about Vices (especially the bonus tracks) being underrated; it's one of my favorite albums.

I understand artists have a need to evolve and change but I'll always wonder what could've been if they stayed with their original roots. Ryan Ross continued to make music on a more local scale. Rather than recording, he preferred to perform live music with a small band of friends at small concerts. He's kept rather low key and seems to be having a lot of fun with his musical girlfriend and without being shackled to a major label. Good for him, and may he forever be remembered as a Local God.
Urie on the other hand went on to do great things himself; he carried on the legacy that Ross began, and not wanting the light to go out, he created banger album after banger album. Even after Ross left, Urie is responsible for an vast and iconic discography of songs that will continue to make ripples in music culture for years to come. His downfall was tragic, but may he forever be remembered as Global God.

Being a huge ryro/early Panic! stan, I'd say I'm very torn about this era lol. As much high praise as DOAB gets (and deservedly so, at least production and musically wise) it lacks a lot of the imagination that even TWTLTRTD kept up with-? And maybe I'm just one for the more lush pop punk roots they had until after V&V. It kinda hurts seeing the lyricism and magic that they had before that got totally lost once the other members left. -- tHAt all being said though, I can absolutely understand there being a very different audience loving his solo stuff. As much as I personally Don't Love PFTW/VLV/DOAB, there's definitely value in what he left in the final moments, and it's cool the dude got to live up to something more creatively freeing. Just hoping the newer fans via 2016 and beyond'll be able to look back a little more beyond just I Write Sins and get to bops the media tends to glaze over in their older catalogue. The roots are really important to understand in retrospect. (:

He worked his ass off for 17 years and it makes me sad that panic is over but panic would be nothing without him. I just wish he has a quiet happy life with his family now

Thanks for clearing up what the controversies actually were, it was really hard to figure out while it was actually going on since rumours were mixed with truth and people adding their own opinions on top of it. I wasn’t really that active in the fandom anymore either my interest in panic peaked around 2013-2016 so I just stumbled upon a bunch of comments about Brendon being a horrible person without understanding what the hell had happened.
The Zack Hall stuff does make a lot of sense, I remember him being in a lot of the live streams Brendon did back in 2014/15, I always got a really weird vibe from him, he seemed really controlling, would interrupt other people constantly and said a lot of 🥴🥴weird stuff

I first heard about Panic! since I was 15 years old. When I was 18, I started to enjoy their songs, and in 2023, I began bingeing all of them! My IRL good friend has got "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies" stuck in my head. Although I have yet to see them in real life (in less than a week), Brendon has a fantastic voice! Sucks that they're breaking up, and I have been a fan since 2019.
By my predictions, the band started around January-May 2004.
    My favourite songs:
    Nine in the Afternoon
    High Hopes
    I Write Sins, Not Tragedies
London Beckoned Songs About Money Written by Machines
    She's a Handsome Woman
That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed)
    The Ballad of Mona Lisa
    This is Gospel
Ready to Go (Get Me Out of My Mind) - personal favourite
Panic's final song to date: Do It to Death.

Brendon's really talented and has an amazing voice, but I could just never get into any of their stuff past Vices and Virtues. That was the last time I saw them live on tour, and it felt like the last gasp of their older sound. For me, the albums after Vices are just WAY too top 40s pop, which is not my thing. I've never liked him as a lyricist as much as Ryan, and it's a shame Ryan hasn't done much musically since leaving. Still, I'm happy for Brendon that he's had so much solo success, and I hope he and Sarah have all the happiness they deserve!

100% agree personally. Pray sounded commercial pop so it was okay. I hate the Taylor song not because I hate Taylor but because it’s sooo different than what he usually does. Viva sounded uninspired, like his voice is wonderful, but the actual instruments were not memorable. It was bittersweet to hear him leaving, sad because he truly is iconic but also it felt like his music was getting tapped out. He deserves actual rest in his new chapter of his life!

@@jontylerlud you gotta remember the albums that many panic fans became fans for, that sort of sound in the first few albums is just very different from the last three yanno. When you remove yourself a lot from the target audience you initially built you're bound to get some avid "meh" people. They were a rock+alt band suddenly doing pop. If you don't know rock/alt people, they're not typically the biggest fans of the pop genre... Like death metal fans and country music, just doesn't work at all. Brendan is lucky they got as popular as they did, MOST other bands in the genre they were in would've been crucified and called a sell out for doing pop music. I've seen many a band like panic die from rock to pop disease, it's usually a terminal diagnosis.. it's an incredibly risky decision that even when it pays off, the original target audience will always feel a tad bitter in some parts. but anyways, I actually like every album so I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just playing devil's advocate trying to make people's general consensus make more sense.

VLV it’s far from being my favorite album, but I did enjoy few songs, Say it Louder is my favorite song and I love how he says he did this song to their fans. I got to see them for the first and unfortunately last time, last year during the Viva Las Vengeance Tour and it was amazing! Even tho their last album wasn’t good for a lot of people, even for some fans, I feel like he put in a lot of things he wanted to say and he did it differently than he normally would, the vibes are very different and I mean, if it’s something he wanted to do, I’m here for it, after those years of people trashing Brendon and the band, I was honestly just thirsty for anything, but it’s very upsetting they ended up with an album that instead of making them look a little better after all that, it became another reason for people to trash them… 😢 Sadly they’re no longer a band but I wish all the best for them, specially Brendon, Sarah and their newborn ❤️ its heartbreaking but I know that will be better for them💕

We went into the 2020s with Ryan Ross playing old Panic songs on tour and preparing a new album and Brendon was at his peak in mainstream popularity. It seemed like Panic was going to be bigger than ever in the 2020s with a reunion finally seeming plausible. In the end the pandemic ended both Ross and Urie.
It’s a shame management didn’t respond better and faster to the ZCH stuff. Crush management has always been notoriously bad but this really was the worst. When a twitter hate mob gets going, it’s only going to get worse. They’ll dig into many years old dramas that were dealt with and apologized for at the time and make up false claims. Luckily for Brendon they were easy to prove false but the average twitter teen will just take it at face value. Eventually what the person actually did doesn’t matter and the actual art they create doesn’t matter either.
I liked VLV at the time despite being surprised in the change of direction from his twitch 2019 demos but in retrospect it makes far more sense now that we know the band was ending. Why make another pop album when it’s not going to be received well anyway due to the cancellation. Fair play to him for making the Queen album he always wanted on FBR’s dime, even if it’s not really what most of the younger fans especially would’ve been into. I was shocked to see just how massively popular the tour has been, maybe the twitter stuff was just a vocal minority and if Brendon had done another pop album he could’ve been back on top. Hindsight is 2020 though and I think Brendon would’ve wanted it to be over anyway so he had time for his family.
