    This is genius............I feel stupid that I didn't think of this...,,,.my method for getting curved pieces was not near that easy. I'm glad I've found your video so now I can start doing it the easy way. LOL

    Hi Julia,
    You are my cookie guru. I just love your work and enormous dedication to all things cookie and, as always, this video is awesome!
    Here's an unrelated question, if I may.
    What is the best brand of butter to use when making decorated cookies like these?
    What is the brand that "YOU" like the best?
    I know that cheaper brands have more water content, which affects the recipe and, more expensive brands have less water content which, affects the recipe. Also, what are your thoughts on Plugra butter? Is it worth the cost?
    Thanks so much for any butter wisdom you can give me.

      LOL it is then!
      If I could impose on you again about the shortening which I NEVER would have considered.
      How much shortening would you add in, let's say, a standard recipe?
      Would it be 2T shortening to replace 2T of butter? And what types of cookies would profit from the shortening addition?
      Thank so much for taking the time to read and answer my question.
      P.S. I was up until 3 a.m. this morning watching your priceless videos. The time wonderfully flew by.
      Allow me to say that watching you work is like watching a skilled surgeon. You are completely amazing!!!

    I cut the piece, baked it, then right after it came out of the oven, I picked up the piece, parchment paper and all and draped it over a rounded piece if PVC pipe that had been cut in half ....it did pretty well....LOL.....a few little cracks, but had to work really fast and the ends still bowed out a bit so had to take a micro plainer to it. Your method seems MUCH easier. LOL

    If you did this with sugar cookie dough (not many fans of gingerbread in the house), could you freeze it for a few minutes first to help with spreading? That's what I normally do with cut-out cookies and they spread a few millimeters at most, so I'm wondering if I could do that so I don't have to use gingerbread?

    Questions for you Julia... if i were to use ordinary cookie cutters on the lids for the shapes wouldnt the regualy cookie cutter melt if it's in a 350-375 oven? i've never tried this method but would like to, are you using a certain brand or supply for melting not to occur and be oven proof? might sound like a "stupid" question but curious . Thanks...excellent videos, you've been so helpful with them and my cookie addiction lol

    I think these are just fabulous. perfect for thank you baskets. i have an idea for colorful letter cookies that spell out thanks. If I did a couple of dipped strawberries, do you think it would be to heavy for the basket?

    Hi Julia, is there another dough I can use instead of ginger bread? Don´t get me wrong, I love the taste, but I don´t have a/c so is imposible to work with it. Thank you so much.

    Julia, don't know if you will ever see this question but... I would like to cover the top edge of the basket with a braided "rope" of gingerbread, so what would be the best method of shaping and cooking that? ( looking down at the completed basket you would see the rope all around the rim of the basket )

    Hi Julia, I´ve tried your ginger bread recipe and I have a few questions: why my dough is darker than yours? also is softer than your even when its been out of the oven one hour? Thank you

      I didn´t change ingredients, yes, I baked it enough just the time you recomended. Once I unmold the cookie its so soft, even when I have the A/C on. The only this I can think of is the molasses, you ask for "mild", mine says only molasses, but is the same color.

    your cookie dough recipe site can not be reached. why?

      Because it is a very old site, which is currently getting redesigned. For now, you can view it on Chrome by circumventing any security warnings you see (www.juliausher.com/blog/more/cutout_cookie_gingerbread). It will take another couple of months, however, before my new site it up, so this is the best I can offer right now.

      @@DinksDinersArtbox :) Yes, smart. The old site is slowly looking worse and worse on various browsers (as its server is outdated). But it makes no sense for me to pay to update its server right now, as the new site will be completely different and on a different server. Thanks for your patience as I make this very time-consuming transition.
