The difference between this channel and other channel is - others try to react while these both try to learn and acknowledge indian culture. It can be seen by the variety of videos they react like - trailers, movie review, songs, classic songs and music, history of india, indian foods, indian tourism, indians and the list goes on.

I agree. Many other westerners react to indian things, i actually find it funny because they are very superficial. Probably because of the compulsions being a youtuber and knowing that they will be appreciated by 1.35 billion people they do it, I don't blame them. But you two are literally genuine, learners. Thanks for this video I loved it.

As much as I love listening to Mahesh Kale, and as much as Viththal bhajans require that high a pitch, I feel (as a lay listener), that Mahesh takes it slightly overboard. Every time I have listened to "Kanada Raja Pandharicha" by Mahesh, he has, almost always, faltered (notes-wise) at the very end when he does the ultra high notes. I don't know whether that is allowed or excusable, in musical circles, given the effort put it. For me as a listener, I can accept a level lower than hear him go a little astray.

Yes, as Jyotsna Tata has said in one of her comments here, this is Raag Malkauns. A few imp points:
    1. It's a famous song in the tradition of devotional songs called 'Abhanga' ('unbroken' - of one's attachment to God). Although there is a rich treasure of Abhnagas in medieval Marathi (15th to 18th centuries) composed by many sages, this one was penned by an iconic Marathi lyricist G. D. Malgulkar on demand for a film in 1950! Like many others from this poet, it is so accurate in wording, meter, and illustration that many people believed and actually searched who the original sage was as they had never heard it before.
    2. Vitthal is a name of Krishna in Maharashtra and Karnataka* and means 'the one who stands (thal) on a brick (vit)' - referring to an ancient tale and the Vitthal idol is always in that posture as it is behind those singers. [*Before Indian independence the two stated did not present boundaries and the shared a common culture- thus the adjective 'kaanadaa' meaning from Karnataka, although the song is in Marathi].
There is a custom of chanting / repeating such names in the end of a song to almost the level of onomatopoeic effect, because the main aim of such compositions is to give the person a feeling of devotional ecstasy and helping one to remove the obstacle of the mind from the process of self-sighting.
    3. Kaushiki comes from Bengali background, but one interesting fact in India is that most accomplished singers sing songs from many other languages. And yes, here she alters her pitch to match Mahesh's.
    4. Please also listen to the same song performed live by Mahesh Kale and Rahul Dehspande, whose grandfather sung the original song.
    5. The actual film song is not this long (it's about 4 min). But it has been rendered by many a singer for its musical potential.
    6. Raag Malkauns is so vibrant that almost all songs composed in this scheme leave the listener feeling elevated and transported.

The Bharat Ratna (Gem of India ) highest award was given to HIndustani Classical Singer Bhimsen Joshi. He had a wiiiiiiiiiiide range and was extremely popular among classical music listeners. Such was his passion to learn from a great teacher that he ran away from home in search of a Guru. Its said his Guru tested his eagerness to study music by deliberately not teaching him for sometime. It is said the Guru also tested his lung power by asking him to blow some sand with one big breath.

    Dear Korbin and Rick,
I recently started watching your videos and I'm absolutely in love with your reactions. A few days back one of the videos popped on my RUclips recommendations and I accidentally started watching , till then I was like, "reacting to others' content?? I mean, who does that? These white people react to Indian videos just to get a lot of views." But at the end of two days of watching straight, I became a stupid baby 😀❤. Not just that, my mom also started watching now. Infact she has an amazing recommendation for you guys -
Please react to this song ("Mile Sur Mera Tumhara") which was made twice (once in 80's I guess, and second was from a few years ago). These songs represent a teeny tiny bit of India from North to South, East to West. Also, try spotting some known faces in both of 'em.😀 Speciality of the song is that it just has 2-3 lines of lyrics which are sung in different languages.
    Old - ruclips.net/video/-jf6pwtPqCs/видео.html
    New - ruclips.net/video/gYGjjiQLDPc/видео.html
P.S: I love how genuine you guys are, not just watching cinema content but also trying to explore what India is in its truest form. I bet this lifetime (as an Indian myself) won't be enough to know how incredible India is. Anyways great work guys. I can see your channel hitting a 10M mark in near future. Happy watching!

The wording, music and singing all are superb.
This is a BHAJAN about lord VITTHAL (Most of the MAHARASHTRA worships this GOD. Interestingly the GOD has KARNATAKA origin. That's why it is called as KANADA VITHALU).
    This BHAJAN is in MARATHI.
The lady singer probably does not speak this language but sung by her in amazingly perfect dialect.

What they were doing is called Aalap.
In Carnatic classical music, alapana is a form of melodic improvisation that introduces and develops a raga (musical scale). As a term that is Sanskrit in language, alapana means "to speak, address, discourse, communicate".
The flavor of the raga is outlined in the alapana by rendering the raga's permitted notes in structures and phrases unique to the raga (known as "raga lakshanam"). Alapana typically precedes a song that is going to be sung in the same raga.
Alapana is rendered in different speeds, with a gradual increase in tempo. Likewise, the complexity of the patterns increases steadily as the alapana progresses.
